I realize this is WIP, but i just got screwed out of the trophy for getting the homing shot. I was playing the final match vs izzak and i hit a homing shot on the first hole. I waited and waited and waited but my trophy never popped. Im guessing it was bc i was in a VS match, and maybe those dont count as official rounds. IDK but it really pissed me off seeing as how this is really a 'luck' trophy....

You're sure it was a homing shot? I'll look into it. It DOES SAY, however, that Match play scores are not recorded, so it could be that they are not Official Rounds.

Ya it was a homing shot. The shot had super topspin, It hit the pin, then hit it another four times. I checked the loading screens you can view and it said that this was a homing shot.

Im pretty sure its bc it was a VS round. It would be nice to get this confirmed, but its highly doubtful i hit another homing/spiral/rising shot in a vs match.

I can confirm that rising/homing/spiral shots HAVE to be done in regular challenge games (i.e. no Mega Cup or vs matches)

Well unfortunately my Vita was stolen about 30 minutes after I finished the guide, so the crown guide will have to go unfinished for an undetermined amount of time, possibly forever. Not sure if/when I'll get the money for another Vita :/

Ahhhhh. I didn't see that this was a Vita game! I saw this on the home page and got all excited. I loved Hot Shots Fore! on PS2. I really hope one comes to the PS3.

@Jak - I'm sorry to hear about your Vita man. That sucks.

I decided to use the funds I had saved for a new phone to buy another Vita, since I have the entire summer to work for that money back because the iPhone 5 probably won't come out until Fall anyway, and I've got nothing else to do before I go back to school besides work anyway

So hopefully within the next week or so it will get here, and then after I can get back to where I was in the game, I'll be able to continue work on the Crown Guide for whoever needs it.

As someone who's currently in what you would note as the "Cleanup" phase of the Roadmap toward the Platinum, I have a few things to note for the guide, and I would also like to provide a bit of an alternate Roadmap based on how I did or how I wish I would have gone about things.

    Things of note:

Rising shots confirmed as viable within 15yd chip range; the reason some may feel as though they are not is because shorter chip shots have more tendency to simply roll into the cup, rather than hit the pin as necessary for the Riser, than previous installments in the franchise, notably Out of Bounds (PS3).

Spiral shots likewise confirmed within 15yd chip range; just again, make sure it actually hits the pin, rather than rolling simply into the cup.

I have yet to be able to confirm Homing shots in this manner, but hopefully, I will have results on this end shortly.

Also, character maxing takes the equivalent of 10 18-hole rounds (1 for Lv. 1, 2 for Lv. 2, 3 for Lv. 3, and 4 for MAX); match play only counts for 3 holes, or 1/6th of an 18H round.

    Proposed Alternate Roadmap:

Step 1 - [Before Challenge Mode] Max out loyalty on Yuna, Yamato, Lani, and Chang.

I know what you're likely thinking. "Lani costs 30000 points, and Chang another 15000! Why're we grinding right off the bat here?" I have an answer for you, and it goes a little something like this. In order to get Greased Lightning, Perfect Spiral, and Chaser of the Flame, you need to have characters at level 3 loyalty or higher. Maxing out each of the two opening characters gives you 20 18-hole rounds to do the following: accustom yourself with the game mechanics and get your rhythm so you can get your Perfect Impact timing down, and accumulate the 30000 points for Lani; you only need 1500 points per round, so it shouldn't matter whether you're new to the franchise or a seasoned vet, this should be achievable. It also gives you your first 8 rounds of opportunity to get each of the super-spin trophies.

    Lani
is the real prize here, as she is an upgrade, strictly speaking, to your default pair, and the 10 rounds to max her out should give you enough points to purchase Chang at 15000, again, only requiring 1500 points per 18 holes. Max Chang out once you're done with Lani (this is going to be a theme here), and get ready to start Challenge Mode. SAVE THE REST OF YOUR POINTS! You'll want them to unlock clubs, balls, and other characters when you start Challenge Mode.

Step 2 - Challenge Mode [Stars]

Once you've maxed out your four first characters, it's time to start Challenge Mode. The mode itself, at least as far as the Star challenges are concerned, are fairly straightforward, and you have your initial stable of 4 characters to choose from. I went with Lani, as the Intermediate character with better stats, but feel free to use whoever you want; that's why we maxed everyone at the outset, so you can try them out and pick your favorites.

At the end of each tier, you will unlock the ability to buy a new character via the VS battle (and get a snazzy trophy for destroying them in combat), and I suggest you make buying each new character when available priority #1. I didn't, and I'm regretting not having done so as of now. With this new character in tow, either back out of Challenge Mode and head into Stroke Play or jump into Challenge 1-5 (Maple Leaf 18H) if you want the extra first place points in the mix as well, and Max out your character's loyalty! You may be thinking "Again?", but trust me here, Maxing out your characters early makes life easier to keep going as your favorites later, instead of having that nagging feeling that you should be using the ones you still have to Max out. When you get to the Crown side of Challenge Mode, that especially hits hard. As a bonus, Maxing early gives you the most possible chances for some of the harder trophies, including the Super-Spin shots, because you won't find yourself watching a Super-Spun shot with a character of only 2 loyalty smash dead into the pin, only to careen 15 feet away and force you to putt. That just hurts to watch, as a player.

Step 3 - Challenge Mode [Crowns]

Be prepared to be frustrated, but whatever you do, do not throw your Vita angrily to the ground in frustration because you just went almost the full 9 holes in Crown Challenge 3-4 without hitting it in the rough, only for your approach into the 18th green (it's the back 9) to roll just barely into the tall grass and screw you over. It's not worth breaking your Vita over.

It takes time, it takes practice, but this is also where maxing out your characters early is going to help, because you know you've got the super-spin shots in your back pocket if/when you need (or can hit) them. Go with a favorite (I used Amy and Xiao Ling, mainly), and just be patient. You're going to fail some quite a bit, but just hang tough, and you'll eventually be able to hit them all.

Step 4 - Shop Buyout & Loose Ends

At this point, you have everyone maxed out, you have Challenge Mode completed, in both Stars and Crowns, and all you should possibly have left is the need to buy everything in the shop and fill in some of the annoying silvers, including 2 of the Super-Spins already listed ( Greased Lightning is a Crown requirement), It's a Miracle! and Go For the Ace! You may also have to do the Daily Participant trophy, but that shouldn't be a big deal by now. Just clean things up at your leisure, and you'll have the in no time.

Oh my god, Challenge 3-4. Almost threw my vita off the 5th story of the hotel I was staying at when I was attempting that challenge. Eventually got it though.

Also, I was wondering how you got those rising/homing/spiral shots from short distances? I have met the requirements a few times, hitting the pin directly in midair, but nothing happens? Maybe there are other factors I'm missing, but I tried testing it a bunch and never had any luck with close shots...
