[top]Tips & Strategies

Most enemies can be launched into the air by your hits. Hit them with upward strikes and dash strikes to keep them airborne as long as possible. They are totally vulnerable while they are airborne and can't hit you back!

Your character is not very durable and can quickly die if you are caught with your guard down for too long. Blocking will negate all damage but will drain your blade's Spirit Power so use it sparingly! Rolling around is a great way to avoid damage but you will have to execute it with pinpoint accuracy if you want to avoid getting hit.

Whetstones are very useful items and will give you the ability to overcome nearly all encounters in the game (especially on Fury!). My two most-used whetstones are Uchimori and Iyo Whetstones. Uchimori Whetstones will make your blade's Spirit Power not decrease for a short time and Iyo Whetstones will fully restore one blade's Spirit Power. You are invincible while you are performing a Secret Art and will also pump out a lot of damage at the same time.

[top]Roadmap

Start a new game and choose "Legend," then start Momohime's story. When the game asks if you want to play through the tutorial, choose Yes. Once you have completed the tutorial and have started the prologue, head left and inspect the red barrier. Then just play through the game normally and enjoy the story until you reach the boss of the Final Act. Save before the boss portal and then press and go to settings. Change the play style from "Legend" to "Chaos" and defeat the final boss. This will unlock Fury Mode which you will need for the last step. You will obtain the following trophies after completing this step:

Valkyrie, ARISE!
Aren't WE precocious?
You've Got (no) Soul!
The Devil's Whorehouse
It's Not the Sword that Kills
Wow, Hida is Boar-ing!
Machiavellian Betrayal
Where in Hell is My Sword?!
...Stairway to Heaven.
In Buddha's Infinite Mercy
665 and a Half Won't Do!
That's the Spirit!

Using the same save file from Step 1, choose "Legend" and start Kisuke's story. When asked if you want to play the tutorial, choose Yes. Now that you have played through Momohime's story and have a feel for the game, try to complete Kisuke's story in under 3 hours for "Can't You Go Any Faster?! ." Kisuke's story is slightly shorter than Momohime's so that is why you want to go for this trophy in this step. Finishing Step 2 will earn you these trophies:

...Ninja Dog
A Boy and his...Kitsune?
Nothing Ventured...
Godiva, She's Not
Ghosts of the Past
The Maiden of Narukami
Battlefield of the Damned
The Dragon God of Mount Fuji
Born Again and Again and Again
Can't You Go Any Faster?!

Continue playing post-game so you can finish off most of the remaining trophies. You may have earned some of these trophies during Steps 1 and 2 but some can only be obtained after completing both stories. Below is a list of the major things that you need to complete:
  • Eat 88 restaurant dishes
  • View all of the hot spring scenes
  • Defeat the Sea Monster
  • Encounter the mermaid
  • Break all of the Barriers on the map
  • Choose one of the characters and collect all of the accessories with that character
  • Clear all Caves of Evil with both characters
  • Obtain all 108 blades
  • View all of the endings (3 for each story)
You will be finished with Step 3 when you have all of these trophies unlocked:

Secret Arts FTW! Literally...
Hours, Persons, Doors
They're Swords, not Hammers...
You're Already Fed
That's Pretty Steamy...
From the Depths of R'lyeh
Hey, You're Not Sea Foam Yet?!
Kerouac Has Nothing on You!
Accessories for Every Occasion
YOU > Evil...Caves
108 Swords of Destiny
But I Only Have Two Hands!
Oboro, Shmoboro!
A New Hope
Beware the Words of the Mad...

You need to start a new save file for this step and choose "Fury" when you are asked to select a play style. If you haven't yet earned the two unscathed trophies you will most certainly earn them playing through Fury Mode. You will need to beat both stories, collect all 108 blades, and view all endings in Fury mode. You should have your platinum trophy after completing this final step!

[top]
...Ninja Dog
Complete the tutorial section using Kisuke.

The game will ask you if you would like to play the tutorial when you begin Kisuke's story. Choose "Yes" and play through the tutorial to unlock this trophy. If you skip the tutorial you will have to start a new save file in order to get this trophy.

A Boy and his...Kitsune?
Complete the prologue of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Kurozaru boss fight. He is large and slow so his attacks are easily avoidable. Kurozaru will throw a large shuriken at you. Either let it pass over your head or jump over it and make sure to watch out for when it comes back to him. If you see Kurozaru put both of his hands in the air, he is about to hit you, so get behind him to avoid it. His last attack is a ground slam. He will jump very high into the air and then hit the ground and produce a shockwave. Just move out of the way and jump before he hits the ground and you will avoid it completely.

[top]
Nothing Ventured...
Complete chapter 2 of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Giant Centipedes boss fight. You will be up against 3 giant centipedes, specifically. Their health bars will not be displayed on the screen. Attack their heads and tails to start destroying the segments of their bodies and one by one they will come apart. But their head and tail will eventually grow back and they will try to get away from you. When dealing with the head, you never want to be directly in front of them. Their pincers will destroy your blades in a couple of hits and sometimes the centipede will charge at you. Instead, stay on the sides of their heads to cut it off. The centipedes will also shoot blue fireballs at you but these should pose no problem because you can easily reflect them back. The fight will be over once you have obliterated all three centipedes.

[top]
Godiva, She's Not
Complete chapter 3 of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Torahime boss fight. The first thing you should do is take care of Torahime's two guards. She will be on horseback and will ride away and shoot arrows at you. Stand next to one of the bamboo poles sticking out of the ground and they will block the arrow from hitting you. After her minions are dead, roll to her until you are under her horse. Now keep attacking until she runs away again. Be aware of when she shoots a volley of arrows into the air - they will come back down and try to hit you. Her horse will also stomp the ground so either jump or use a Secret Art to avoid getting hit by the shockwave. This fight is fairly easy. Avoid her arrows and her horse's stomps and you shouldn't have much trouble taking this boss down.

[top]
Ghosts of the Past
Complete chapter 4 of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Sayo boss fight. She leaves herself very open and vulnerable most of the time but you should also be wary of her attacks.. Sayo doesn't melee often but her hits will hurt a lot, and will take half of your blade's Spirit Power if you try to block it. She will frequently throw scrolls into the air. You should focus on those and destroy them before they start shooting electricity. She will also throw a lot of bombs at you which you can easy block. After some time she will call crows to pick her up and she will now be in the air. Continue attacking her and blocking the bombs she will throw. She will also call a dozen crows to attack you. Block their blows and wait for Sayo to prepare a huge bomb. When she throws it, try hitting the bomb back into her and it will blow up, severely damaging her and knocking her back down to the ground. Keep negating her attacks and damaging her when you can and you shouldn't have a problem with this fight.

[top]
The Maiden of Narukami
Complete chapter 5 of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Tsuchigumo boss fight. His primary attack is his web shot. He will retreat to either the left corner, right corner, or center and start spraying web in a circular motion. Block it if you can but if you get hit, mash to break free. Along with Tsuchigumo, you will have to deal with his numerous baby spiders. They have decent health pools and will try to grab you. If they do, shake them off with . The last thing you have to worry about is the blue energy orbs that Tsuchigumo will summon. Avoid/block them while they float to the ground, then explode into smaller orbs. After enough damage you Tsuchigumo will fall to the ground and this is when you should unleash on him. The fight should be over shortly after that.

[top]
Battlefield of the Damned
Complete chapter 6 of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Chigurui Bishamon boss fight. Chigurui is another large boss that moves slowly. You will be able to read all of his attacks well in advance. When he lifts his sword above his head or moves it behind him, back out to avoid his strike. When you see green souls coming out from his chest, back away because he will slice up anything next to him. Last, his head will glow green. When that happens, one of two things will occur: he will summon an undead army to run you over or he will summon a hail of arrows that will come from above. Immediately back away from Chigurui and jump and glide over the undead army or block the arrows because they will damage him.

[top]
The Dragon God of Mount Fuji
Complete chapter 7 of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Dragon God boss fight. The Dragon God is a tough boss to fight because he stays in the air for the duration of the encounter. You will have to jump and do a few hits to him while simultaneously dodging his fire attacks. He has a few fire attacks and it's hard to tell which one he is charging - your best bet will be to run behind him when he starts to breathe his fire. He will go up into the clouds and the screen will turn dark. Lightning orbs will come out and follow you and soon after that a huge bolt of lightning will cross the screen. Use a Secret Art when the lightning is about to hit you to avoid it. He will soon come back out of the clouds and start shooting out fire again. Constantly stay aware of your environment and try to dodge as many of his attacks as you can.

[top]
Born Again and Again and Again
Experience the finale of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Inugami Tsunayoshi Tokugawa boss fight. I suggest equipping something that will negate poison damage like the Dragon Necklace. This particular fight is pretty easy. Tokugawa will be floating just above the ground so he is easy to hit. After taking a few hits from you he will teleport a few feet and summon some ghost warriors. You can kill them before they start moving, otherwise you need to jump over them or block their attack. Tokugawa will also have a blood barrier around him that will solidify every once in a while and try to attack you. You can block this as well. There will also be lightning striking the ground and will most likely hit you. Block this too. All of these attacks do little damage on their own but you may have to block several things in succession so keep an eye on your blade's Spirit Power and switch it out if it's about to break. When he enrages, Tokugawa will copy himself. Dodge the copies and return to hitting the real one. Once he goes down, the second fight will begin.

Once defeated Tokugawa will transform into Inugami. Inugami himself only has a few attacks but what makes this fight hard is the amount of things you have to avoid. You will soon notice portals all over the walls. Do not go near them or else you will be attacked by enemies from the other realm. If you need to get past one then attack it. A few combos will destroy the portal. Inugami will turn black and start to do a large-area attack. Get away from him when you see him turn black or use a Secret Art to make it through unscathed. Eventually Inugami will go through a portal and reappear somewhere else. Hey may be covered in a poisonous cloud and this is where your affliction-negating accessories come in. You can stand directly in the cloud and continue to attack Inugami. His most deadly attack happens when he goes through a portal. Inugami will attack the room in a diagonal line segment and sweep the room. When the room goes dark, you need to get to the side of the room or else Inugami will hit you and do a lot of damage. Do enough damage and he will collapse which will give you time to deal heavy damage to him.

A New Hope
See all of the endings of Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade.

Ninja Scroll of the Demon Blade has 3 endings. You have to view all 3 endings to unlock this trophy. You must engage and defeat the final boss again under specific conditions to determine which ending you will see. The game's objective will stay the same after you defeat the final boss for the first time so follow the red marker on your map to find your way back to the final boss.

Ending #1

This ending will unlock the first time you complete Kisuke's final story chapter.

Ending #2

To get the second ending, you must enter the final boss portal with Descent into Misery and The Threads of Fate blades equipped. You must have completed Momohime's story in order to unlock Descent into Misery. Entering the portal with these two blades equipped will change the boss fight. You will now be fighting Momohime. Defeat her to unlock this ending.

Ending #3

Equip the Oboro Muramasa blade and defeat the final boss to trigger the last ending. You must forge and collect every other blade in the game before you can forge the Oboro Muramasa. The boss fight will be the same as the fight for Ending 1.

[top]
Valkyrie, ARISE!
Complete the tutorial section using Momohime.

The game will ask you if you would like to play the tutorial when you begin Momohime's story. Choose "Yes" and play through the tutorial to unlock this trophy. If you skip the tutorial you will have to start a new save file in order to get this trophy.

[top]
You've Got (no) Soul!
Complete the prologue of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Blue Monk boss fight. This boss moves very slowly and as long as you stay behind him you will be safe from his abilities. Dash, roll, or jump to stay behind him or to dodge his attacks. He will start making a casting motion when he is about to use an ability. Overall it is a very simple fight.

[top]
The Devil's Whorehouse
Complete chapter 2 of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Wanyuudo boss fight. All but one of his abilities deal with fire so I suggest equipping and using the blade Flowering Iris because it has a Resist Fire effect. You will be immune to the fire he spits onto the floor as well as the burn effect his fire attacks will give you. But it will not protect you if he hits you with a direct fireball. You can craft the Flowering Iris in the forge.

In addition to his fire abilities, he will shoot a poison ball into the air and it will soon explode. The area affected is pretty small so just walk to the other side of Wanyuudo to avoid the poison ball. He will also charge across the map. You will know he is going to charge soon when the flames on his body begin to glow brighter, and he will charge in the direction that he is facing. When his health gets low he will begin to rise up in the air and shoot fireballs down on you. Dodge them and wait for him to come down, then finish him off.

[top]
It's Not the Sword that Kills
Complete chapter 3 of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Yukinojo boss fight. Yukinojo is a basically a samurai enemy with a couple extra moves so you are going to want to fight him like you would fight any other samurai. Hold to keep your guard up at all times and take your time finding an opening. It will take two heavy strikes to break his blade. Once it's broken, you have a short time to unleash all that you have on him. I suggest using upward strikes and dashing strikes to juggle him in the air and do a lot of damage. Once he repairs his blade you just need to break it again and continue unleashing the hurt. When his health is low he will enrage and his attacks will do more damage. Exercise more caution but keep up the pressure and he'll be defeated in no time.

[top]
Wow, Hida is Boar-ing!
Complete chapter 4 of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Ippondatara boss fight. This boss has a few phases. The first phase will have you fighting just his foot. Ippondatara's foot moves slowly and only has two attacks - a kick and a stomp. Just dodge his attacks and when he lowers his foot, jump on top of it. In Phase 2, you will mainly fight his fist. His arm is slightly faster but is still easy to dodge. He has three attacks in this phase: a forward punch, a ground punch, and a sweeping punch that first goes up and right and then comes down and left. In addition to his arm attacks, Ippondatara will shoot two projectiles from his eyes: the first one is a disc and you can reflect them back at his head or hand to damage him, and the second projectile is an explosive orb. They do a lot of damage and will break your blade if you try to guard it. In Phase 3, he will be in his true form - a boar. Just beat on him until he switches forms or changes back to another one of his forms.

*Fury Mode Tip* In phase 2, don't attack his hand and he will not summon the explosive orbs. Just reflect his discs to damage him in this phase.

[top]
Machiavellian Betrayal
Complete chapter 5 of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Chimera boss fight. This fight is all about evasion. His attacks come fast and hard and will easily break your blade if you aren't careful (you may want to stock up on whetstones if you break all three of your blades). His most common attack is rolling from side to side trying to hit you. Roll away to avoid him and once you get to the edge of the room, roll under him and keep rolling in the other direction. He will either start shooting out blue fire or try to land a devastating hit on you. Reflect all of the fire back to him or evade his devastating hit and he will collapse for a few seconds. Use this time to get a few hits in him. Another attack to avoid is his cyclone. It will start to suck you in so you need to roll in the opposite direction in order to avoid it. When Chimera enrages, he will gain speed and strength so be extra careful.

[top]
Where in Hell is My Sword?!
Complete chapter 6 of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Boss Demon boss fight. Before starting the fight I suggest equipping the Kappa Scale in your equipment slot. It will protect you from the poison damage in Boss Demon's stomach. Start the fight by slicing up the lining of his stomach until he spits you out. You can jump onto his head or belly to get in a good position to attack him. After doing a little bit of damage the Boss Demon will do one of two things: he will either enrage and you must hide behind one of the pile of bones in the room or he will become dazed and will take increased damage from your blades. If you do not hide behind a bone pile, he will find you and unleash very powerful moves on you. But all you have to do is stay behind the bone pile for a few seconds while the enrage wanes and then go back to attacking him. Usually after coming out of a daze, Boss Demon will raise his left hand and grab something in front of him and eat it. You want to be the thing that he grabs. He will pick you up and eat you again. Now you can freely damage him until he spits you out again. He has a lot of health and this will be a long fight, but it is very easy as long as you hide behind the bones piles when Boss Demon enrages (the game even tells you to hide behind something when he does).

[top]
...Stairway to Heaven.
Complete chapter 7 of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Raijin boss fight. Like her name suggests, most of her attacks involve lightning and they are particularly deadly. You can use the dark clouds around her as platforms to reach her. Raijin has metal balls surrounding her that she will frequently charge with electricity, and will shoot large orbs of lightning out of them. You can press to perform a quick-draw attack in order to destroy most of the lightning orbs. Do enough damage to Raijin and her metal balls will disappear and she will be stunned for several seconds. Use this time to unleash everything. When she gets up, she will have more abilities. She will move to the center of the room and shoot a single lightning bolt out of each hand and also slowly turn her arms. Just move with the lightning and you won't get hit. Next, she will shroud herself in lightning and come after you. Don't let her touch you - use the cloud platforms and roll while on the ground to stay away from her. Finally Raijin will teleport next to you and try to hit you with a thunder punch. Try to dodge it, but your best bet will be to use a Secret Art so you are immune for that fraction of a second.

[top]
In Buddha's Infinite Mercy
Experience the finale of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

You will earn this trophy after you have overcome the Fudo-Myoou boss fight. Fudo-Myoou is the large statue in the background and you won't directly fight him in this encounter. Instead, you will have to deal with his two minions. They are keeping barriers up on Fudo-Myoou's vulnerable parts so you need to knock out his minions in order to remove the barriers. Both minions have a few abilities and attacks but they won't post much of a threat to you. You can block and destroy anything they throw at you. But you need to watch out for falling rocks because they will hurt you a lot. Both minions don't have too much health so quickly dispatch one and break the part of the statue. Then target the other minion and defeat him, and again break another part of the statue. The third barrier will require both minions to be knocked out. By this time both will have resurrected so kill them again and break the statue's belly. From here the fight just repeats itself. Kill one, break the statue, kill the other, break the statue again, kill both, break the last part of the statue. Once you destroy the statue's head the fight will be over.

Beware the Words of the Mad...
See all of the endings of Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade.

Pandemonium of the Oboro Blade has 3 endings. You have to view all 3 endings to unlock this trophy. You must engage and defeat the final boss again under specific conditions to determine which ending you will see. The game's objective will stay the same after you defeat the final boss for the first time so follow the red marker on your map to find your way back to the final boss.

Ending #1

This ending will unlock the first time you complete Momohime's final story chapter.

Ending #2

To get the second ending, you must enter the final boss portal with Descent into Misery and The Threads of Fate blades equipped. You must have completed Kisuke's story in order to unlock The Threads of Fate. Entering the portal with these two blades equipped will change the boss fight. You will now be fighting Kisuke. Defeat him to unlock this ending.

Ending #3

Equip the Oboro Muramasa blade and defeat the final boss to trigger the last ending. You must forge and collect every other blade in the game before you can forge the Oboro Muramasa. The boss fight will be the same as the fight for Ending 1.

[top]
Aren't WE precocious?
Inspect the first road barrier before completing the prologue.

You can unlock this trophy in either prologue. Right when you enter the prologue, head left. You will run into a red barrier. Press to inspect the barrier and the trophy will pop. You will have an opportunity to get this trophy at the beginning of each playthrough you start. But if you happen to miss it, just start a new save file and skip the tutorial.

[top]
Secret Arts FTW! Literally...
Defeat a boss using a sword's Secret Art.

Every blade has a Secret Art, which is a very powerful attack. Press to use a blade's Secret Art. In order to get this trophy, you will have to perform a Secret Art on a boss and it must be the killing blow. Whittle down any boss's health until it is very low and then use your Secret Art.

[top]
Kerouac Has Nothing on You!
Take down all of the barriers blocking the main road.

You will gain the ability to destroy barriers throughout the story. Once you complete Momohime's and Kisuke's stories, you will gain the ability to destroy white barriers. To unlock this trophy, you must destroy all barriers in the world with BOTH characters. Barriers are very easy to spot on your map. Their icon is a Padlock and it will be flashing if you are able to break it. Just visit each zone and take down all of the barriers that you see on your map with both characters and the trophy will unlock.

[top]
That's Pretty Steamy...
View all of the game's hot spring events.

You can enter a hot spring to heal your character and restore your spirit power. But there will be times when you will encounter another character while walking around in the hot spring. There are 16 hot spring events (8 events for each character) you will need to view in order to unlock this trophy. There are multiple hot spring locations throughout the world. When you see a zone on the map that has a "" symbol, head to it. Within that zone there will be a monkey. Talk to the little monkey and he will take you to the hot springs. Now look around to see if anyone else is in the hot spring and talk to them to view the event (they will either be at the entrance, or to the left inside the pool).

You can only view one event per chapter. If you enter a hot spring for the second time in any chapter it will be empty. But this won't be the case on the final chapter. You can view all 16 events back-to-back once you have completed the story. Just talk to the monkey to enter and start the event. Then leave the hot spring and reenter. There will be another event for you to view. Once you have seen all 16 events the trophy will unlock.

[top]
Change in Management
Defeat a boss without taking any damage.

You must defeat a boss without taking damage in order to unlock this trophy. This trophy's description is a little vague because you can take zero damage but still get hit, and you will not receive the trophy. The surefire way to tell if you didn't take any damage is after the fight. Look at the bonuses awarded to your score and you should see "Flawless Victory." You can safely ignore this trophy until you start playing Fury Mode because you will be required to defeat every boss without taking damage and will most likely earn a "Flawless Victory" on most of those fights.. But if you want to get it out of the way, the Blue Monk boss of Momohime's prologue is especially easy to defeat because his attacks are easily avoidable and predictable.

[top]
Hours, Persons, Doors
Perform a 999-hit combo.

The game constantly displays your current combo in the upper-left portion of your screen. For this trophy, you will need to achieve a combo of 999. Probably the only place to achieve this is when fighting the Giant Centipedes. Kisuke's second boss fight just so happens to be against the Giant Centipedes. Try to avoid hitting their head or tails as this will do a lot of damage to them. You want to go all out on their bodies with slashes and Secret Arts. It will take a minute or two to build up your combo all the way to 999. You can re-fight this boss in post-game. The entrance to the boss area is at the bottom of Iga. The trophy will unlock once your combo reaches 999.

[top]
From the Depths of R'lyeh
Defeat the Sea Monster

I recommend going for this trophy after you have completed your first playthrough because you will have fast travel unlocked which will quicken the process. There is a fisherman in the lower-middle section of Izu that will offer to take you to Mikawa by boat. You will play a fishing minigame the first time you sail with the fisherman. Once you reach Mikawa, fast travel back to Izu and save (this is just in case you don't defeat the Sea Monster). Make your way back to the fisherman and sail with him again.

You will now face the Sea Monster. Tentacles will appear on either side of the boat. Jump towards them and slash at the tentacles and fall into the water. Then spam to make it back onto the boat. The tentacles will attack you a few seconds after they spawn so take them down ASAP. You only have 60 seconds to defeat the Sea Monster before it flees so quickly take out its tentacles. A one-handed blade would be better suited for this fight. Once you have destroyed all of its tentacles the fight will be over and this trophy will unlock.

When you arrive in Mikawa, go back to the fisherman in Izu and sail one more time for "Hey, You're Not Sea Foam Yet?! ." See this trophy's description for more information.

[top]
Evil Only Hurts if You Let It
Emerge from a Cave of Evil unscathed.

Caves of Evil are special challenges that will test your blade-wielding abilities. In order to unlock this trophy, you must clear any Cave of Evil without taking damage. This is the second "No Damage" trophy that you can ignore until you start your Fury Mode playthroughs because you will be required to clear Caves of Evil unscathed. If you instead want to get this trophy out of the way then I suggest playing through one of the lower level Caves of Evil because they are much easier and shorter than the higher level ones.

[top]
They're Swords, not Hammers...
Break 108 blades.

Your blade will break once its Spirit Power reaches zero. Using a Secret Art and blocking enemy attacks will drain your blade's Spirit Power. After a while of no use your broken blade will regenerate. Your progress made towards this trophy will carry across all playthroughs and you should unlock it sometime during your second playthrough.

[top]
665 and a Half Won't Do!
Defeat 666 monsters.

A very simple trophy. Just kill every enemy that you come across. If you spend a little extra time exploring the world you will have this trophy by the time you finish your first playthrough. The trophy will unlock once you have defeated your 666th enemy.

[top]
That's the Spirit!
Obtain 666 souls while wandering the roads.

Souls look like green orbs and can be found all over the world but you could pass by most of them if you don't do a little searching...so explore each zone of the map. You also earn souls from defeated enemies. You want to collect as many as you can because souls are used to forge new blades. You will easily unlock this trophy in your first playthrough.

[top]
Hey, You're Not Sea Foam Yet?!
Encounter a mermaid

You can only encounter a mermaid after you have defeated the Sea Monster. See "From the Depths of R'lyeh " for more information.

After defeating the Sea Monster, return to Izu and sail with the fisherman. A mermaid will appear during the trip and this trophy will unlock shortly after that.

[top]
108 Swords of Destiny
Obtain all of the blades available in the game.

Press and select "Forge" to view the Muramasa blades chart. You must acquire or forge all of the swords on this page to unlock this trophy. You will acquire a new blade for each boss you defeat in Momohime's and Kisuke's stories. These blades will branch out to other blades on the chart and you will now have the ability to forge those blades. In order to forge a blade, you need spirit and souls. You gain spirit from eating food, so find a restaurant and eat a few dishes if you are short on spirit. Souls are acquired from killing enemies and collecting them on your travels. Replay Caves of Evil if you need to farm some souls.

In addition to bosses and forging, there are several blades that must be acquired by other means.

Blade Requirement
Prayer of the Raven Complete "Treachery of the Yagyuu Clan" Cave of Evil

Keep forging blades until you forge the Oboro Muramasa, and soon after that your trophy will unlock.

[top]
Oboro, Shmoboro!
Beat both Kisuke and Momohime in battle.

This trophy is related to Ending #2 of each story. See "A New Hope " and "Beware the Words of the Mad... " for information on how to view these endings.

Your final boss fight in Ending #2 will be the character opposite to the character you are playing. Approach this fight much like you would approach a fight with the samurai enemies - break their swords and do damage to them while they are defenseless. But it's not that simple. Momohime/Kisuke will have the ability to use Secret Arts and they will also have three blades equipped so be prepared for a tedious encounter. This trophy will unlock once you view the second ending of each story.

*Fury Mode Tip* Have a full stack of Uchimori Whetstones and several Iyo Whetstones. Have The Threads of Fate equipped and use your whetstones to keep spamming its Secret Art. It will take several casts to break their swords but once they are broken you will do a lot of damage quickly and have your enemy stunned for most of the battle.

Accessories for Every Occasion
Obtain all of the accessories available in the game.

In order to unlock this trophy, you must obtain all 55 accessories on only ONE character. If you are closely following this guide then I suggest you go for this trophy as Momohime because you won't be going for a speed run and will be able to fully explore the maps, shortening the clean up you may have to do for this trophy. There are four ways to obtain the accessories:
  • Looking at the map, you will notice that many zones have a symbol of an orange basket on them. That means there is an item on the ground or in a chest in this zone. Sometimes it may be an accessory. Through your first playthrough, collect all of these and you will find a lot of useful items including many of the accessories. There are a few accessories that are hidden from the map.
  • Vendors throughout the country carry 1-3 accessories. You just have to buy them from the vendors to acquire them. You can buy them as you go or come back after completing the story.
  • Most of the Caves of Evil reward you with an accessory. Since you have to clear all of the Caves of Evil for a trophy, you will eventually collect all of these accessories.
  • The last way to obtain accessories is easy - from boss fights. But the catch here is that you will have to replay all of your character's bosses and defeat all of the opposite character's bosses in post-game to get every accessory. The opposite character's bosses will be behind white barriers and you won't be able to break them until you have completed both stories.
The bosses and Caves of Evil award the same accessories to both characters, each character has different vendors that offer accessories to them, and Momohime's accessories throughout the world are in different areas than Kisuke's.
Click here to be directed to the Collectibles Guide. The accessories are in order of how they appear in your in-game equipment menu..

You're Already Fed
Enjoy 88 dishes in the country's various restaurants.

There are restaurants located all over the country. Enter one and order any dish from the menu. You will unlock this trophy once you eat 88 dishes. You can try various dishes or eat the same dish over and over. A restaurant only has a limited stock of food at a given time so you won't be able to eat 88 dishes all at once.

Can't You Go Any Faster?!
Complete the game in 3 hours.

I recommend going for this trophy while playing Kisuke's story because most of his bosses are easy compared to Momohime's bosses. You can view your play time by pressing . It will be at the bottom of your screen. *Important* The timer will continue to count while you are in the pause menu. If you need to take a break during your speed run make sure you press the power button to put your Vita into standby mode, otherwise you will be adding unwanted play time to your speed run.

If you are going to try this trophy without having played through Kisuke's story before, I suggest you take a look at the story-related trophies' descriptions so you can get an idea of what to do for each boss. If you happen to die during a boss fight, you should quit the game and reload your save file (you should save before each boss fight) otherwise the time you spent dying to the boss will be added to your total time. You shouldn't go out of your way to pick up any items and you definitely shouldn't fight anything you're not forced to fight. If you are able to skip past enemies then you should do so. I did not forge any blades during my speed run. The weapons Kisuke starts out with can get you through the first few bosses. After that, start equipping the blades you unlocked from beating those first few bosses. One downside to attempting this trophy is that you will be very underleveled for the later boss fights, so you are going to have to play smart and minimize the amount of hits you take. Below are some very important tips:
  • Buy several Bronze Mirrors from a merchant. This item will teleport you to the last shrine you visited. Use one after defeating a boss to prevent a few minutes of backtracking from being added to your play time. I believe you won't have access to one until you fight Kisuke's third boss.
  • Use Smoke Bombs while in battle to escape. Some regular-enemy fights are particularly time consuming and by using Smoke Bombs you could save yourself 30 seconds. Ninja enemies drop Smoke Bombs or you can find some at the merchants.
  • Buy maps from Merchants. Some of the regions have confusing paths and by buying a map you will know exactly how to get to your destination.
If you follow the tips above then you should be able to beat Kisuke's story with at least 15 minutes to spare. Below I have included a table showing my time at certain points in my speed run. Use it as a guide.

Progress Play Time
End of Prologue :10
End of Chapter 3 :43
End of Chapter 4 1:02
End of Chapter 6 1:45
Completed Time 2:35
The trophy will unlock at the beginning of the credits. If you happen to miss the 3 hour mark then unfortunately you will have to start a new save file and redo your speed run.

But I Only Have Two Hands!
Equip Descent into Misery, The Threads of Fate, and Oboro Muramasa.

Descent into Misery, The Threads of Fate, and Oboro Muramasa are three blades very important to the story. Press and select "Equipment." Now equip all three of these blades at once and the trophy will unlock shortly after doing that. Oboro Muramasa is the last blade you unlock so you will not be able to get this trophy until you collect all 108 blades.

YOU > Evil...Caves
Conquer all Caves of Evil with Kisuke and Momohime.

There are 16 Caves of Evil located throughout the country. You have to defeat every Cave of Evil with BOTH characters. They are locked by barriers and you have to break the barrier before you can attempt the Cave of Evil. You will gain the ability to break a certain barrier color after each boss you defeat in the story. White barriers can only be broken once you have completed both Momohime's and Kisuke's stories.

Incarnation of a Hundred Shadows
Location: Yamashiro
Barrier: Red
Recommended Level: 9+
Ninjas. Lots of ninjas. They will break through your guard in the blink of an eye if you aren't careful. Evade and use Secret Arts and you shouldn't have much of a problem.

Trial of a Hundred Monks
Location: Musashi
Barrier: Red
Recommended Level: 9+
Much like the first cave, but with monks instead. Use your Secret Arts, juggle them in the air, and don't block too many hits at once and you should be fine.

God of Pestilence
Location: Owari
Barrier: Orange
Recommended Level: 16+
A large floating purple monster. Back off when he starts emitting poison or when he gets spiky and tries to fly into you. Otherwise it's an easy fight.

Toads of Yoro Falls
Location: Mino
Barrier: Green
Recommended Level: 29+
This cave is full of toads. Stay behind them so you don't get sprayed with poinson. Also be aware of where they are jumping. Quickdraw, juggling, and Secret Arts will get you through this cave with little trouble.

Storm of the Kagura Tengu
Location: Totomi
Barrier: Yellow
Recommended Level: 23+
This cave could give you problems because the enemies constantly stay in the air. Use a blade with aerial Secret Arts if you can, otherwise jump up and use dashing strike to get some hits on the tengu. Use your quickdraw whenever you can, especially if it's at the beginning of a wave.

Seven Samurai
Location: Mikawa
Barrier: Cyan
Recommended Level: 36+
As the title suggests, you are going to have to fight seven samurai in this cave. You can see their health bars at the bottom of your screen. First, you are going to want to break their swords with a heavy attack and then juggle them in the air with upward strikes and dashes. You may want to use whetstones and spam your Sword Arts for this cave if you are having trouble dealing with all of the samurai in the beginning.

Procession of the Snow Demons
Location: Hida
Barrier: Blue
Recommended Level: 42+
Super easy cave. The enemy's attacks are easily reflected and they do not have much health. Keep beating them up until you complete all five waves.

Valor in the Witching Hour
Location: Sagami
Barrier: Purple
Recommended Level: 47+
First, you are going to face three Blue Monks. They are super easy as long as you stay behind them. Next you will fight the purple monster from an earlier cave. Take care of him and you will be done with this cave.

Assault of the Elite Ozaru Ninjas
Location: Iga
Barrier: Purple
Recommended Level: 49+
These enemies are the same as Kisuke's first boss. You will be against four of them at once. Fighting a lone enemy was easy, but having four makes it a bit more complicated. You need to watch out for all of the ninja's shurikens and be aware of their body slams. You should try to focus on them one at a time if you can. Spam whetstones and Secret Arts to kill them quickly.

Frolicking Animals
Location: Kai
Barrier: White
Recommended Level: 50+
You have to get through a few waves of boars and pheasants in this cave. Kill the boars before they start to charge and evade the pheasants until you can land a solid hit on them. Use your quickdraw to kill them fast.

Treachery of the Yagyuu Clan
Location: Yamato
Barrier: White
Recommended Level: 57+
You will face waves of elite ninja in this cave. Quickdraw + Secret Art your way to the last wave, which will include Yukinojo, Momohime's Chapter 3 samurai boss. Take care of the ninja first and then focus on Yukinojo.

Giant Centipedes of Suzuka Ridge
Location: Ise
Barrier: White
Recommended Level: 64+
You will fight the Giant Centipedes in this cave. Use the same techniques you used for Kisuke's second boss. Cut off their tails and heads and then cut off their body segments one by one.

Dragons of Heaven and Earth
Location: Suruga
Barrier: White
Recommended Level: 71+
You have to fight two dragon bosses in this cave. Stock up on whetstones and spam your Secret Arts to make quick work of them and to be invulnerable to their attacks.

Hundreds of Death of the Demon Army
Location: Omi
Barrier: White
Recommended Level: 78+
The first wave is full of imps. Slash them up and prepare for wave two. You will have to face two demons. Use a heavy attack to knock them off their feet, then follow up with an upward slash and then dash attack them. I recommend using a longsword for this fight because you can keep them juggled in the air for a few combos. The third wave will consist of two minotaurs. They are a little tougher, but use the same tactic as on the demons and you will kill them easily. The last wave has two demons AND two minotaurs. Spam whetstones and Secret Arts to weaken the enemies, then finish them off one by one using the tactics in the previous waves.

Battlefield of the Damned
Location: Shinano
Barrier: White
Recommended Level: 85+
The first five waves will be full of undead samurai, samurai shooters, and flying ninjas. Use Secret Arts and quickdraws whenever you can. The last wave of the cave will have three Undead Generals in it. Another boss from Kisuke's story, use whetstones and Secret Art spamming to do as much damage as you can.

Night of Absolute Chaos
Location: Izu
Barrier: White
Recommended Level: 92+
The hardest and longest cave in the game. This cave has a mixture of all of the enemies you have fought throughout your adventures in this game. Stock up on whetstones and use all of the knowledge you have acquired while playing this game to beat this cave.

Thousand Flowers of Darkness
View all of the Ninja Scroll endings while playing "Fury" mode.

"'A Relentless test of one's ability to cheat death.' Like in life, one hit will kill. Only for the truly brave."
You will unlock Fury mode once you complete the final chapter on Chaos mode. You do not have to play the whole story on Chaos - you just need to change the difficulty from "Legend" to "Chaos" before you confront the final boss. The game will tell you that you have unlocked Fury Mode after the credits.

You need to start a new save file. Scroll past the other two difficulties and you will see "Fury." Choose it and then start your Fury Mode run. In terms of difficulty, Fury is exactly the same as Legend. The difference is that you only have 1 HP. One hit from anything will kill you so take it slow and learn your enemy's moves. When you die, you will respawn at the beginning of the zone (or outside of the portal if fighting a boss) so you will lose practically no progress.

You need to see all three endings while playing Fury Mode to earn this trophy so refer to "A New Hope " if you need a refresher on what to do to see Kisuke's different endings. This trophy will unlock after the credits.

[top]Accessories Guide

Below are all 55 accessories in the same order that they appear in the equipment menu. Compare your in-game accessories list with this guide to figure out which accessories you are missing and use the descriptions and screenshots to figure out how to acquire them. This guide includes accessory locations for both characters but you only need to complete your accessories list with one character for the trophy. *Note* I used my Fury Mode post-game save to create this guide so most of the screenshots do not show the actual item because I had picked it up earlier. The item will be right in front of where my character is standing in the screenshots.
