[top]Roadmap

Alone in the Dark: Inferno is the fifth game in the Alone in the Dark series. You play as Edward, a man who is in the middle of a fight for survival with no clue who he is and what is going on.
Coug's Four Steps to Success
First Step: Playing the Game
Your first step on the way to a shiny new is to simply play the game. A majority of the trophies will be earned as you progress in the story. If you need a guide, the Episode Breakdown section below explains what is going on in each sequence as well as what trophies you should earn.

Second Step: Replaying Episodes
If you skipped any sequences during your playthrough, this is the time to go back. From the title screen, choose the Episode option. Now select the episode you need. You must replay from the beginning of the episode through the end of the sequence you skipped or it doesn't count!

Third Step: Roots and Humanz
Reload Episode 8, Sequence 1. All roots are available for burning at this point. Start from one end and make your way to the other side, burning as you go. If you have any trouble, look under Blazing Roots for a link to an excellent root guide.

Also, if you have not earned Eradication , this is the best time to do so as almost all the roots will have bodyguards. If not at them, then at least in the general area. Take care that they are a mix of all three humanz types.

Final Step: Cleanup

Depending on how thorough you were, you may not even need this step. This is the time to go back and pick up those pesky trophies that may have eluded you:
Bloody Mary
The Smart Fighter
The Glowstick Bomb

Useless!

Handyman Carnby

The Blind Man

[top]Tips & Strategies

Cougís #1 Tip: Always ALWAYS have fire bullets equipped.
The majority of the enemies you come across (Humanz and Fissures) in the game require fire to kill them. However, you don't always have plenty of bottles, a chair to burn, or even a fire to catch said chair with. That is why it is highly recommended that you always have a full clip of fire bullets equiped. Not only does this save you space (one bottle of explosive liquid can create 3 to five clips), but it is also much quicker than a bottle toss.

Creating fire bullets is rather easy as well. Simply, press down on the Dpad to enter your inventory. Next combine your gun with any explosive bottle. While in your inventory, press up on the Dpad to be able to hotkey the combo you have equipped. So long as you have a bottle of explosive liquids, you can use the hotkey option to quickly make more fire bullets without ever entering your inventory!

Refueling your bottles is easy as well. First, I would look around for full bottles around trash cans. Be careful that you don't smack into glass bottles in the cans as they will break! If you cannot find any full bottles, then take your knife and puncture a carís gas tank. Free refills! I recommend refilling them anyways whenever you get the chance and have a second car near just to be on the safe side.

Also, make sure to have a full clip before making fire bullets. This is done by just combining ammo with your gun. If you reload after making fire bullets, you will have to recombine a bottle and your gun as reloading turns them back to regular bullets!

Fast Forwarding and Episode Reloading
You can fast forward through sections at any time by pausing the game then pressing right on the Dpad. Here L1 and L2 rewind the sequences while R1 or R2 fast forwards them . However, this is not recommended as you have to play the episode in its entirety to gain their respective trophies.

If you do, for some reason, skip a sequence, just keep going. When you are done with the game, just go back to the episode via the Episode option on the title screen. Replay until the trophy pops. You do NOT have to replay the entire episode unless you missed the final sequence!

There are NO missable trophies! The Episode option on the Title Screen allows you to reload ANY Episode or Sequence. If you are not sure where in the Episode you need to replay, the breakdown section above can help you.
First Person View
The game allows (for the most part) you to choose between third-person and first-person views. It is recommended that you stick to third-person mostly so that you can see your surroundings. It is very easy to get overwhelmed by enemies or to miss things when in first-person view. To swithc between views, press .

Times where first-person view is recommended or a must:

1-You can only fire your gun, use certain combos such as lighter/spray or flashlight/lens, or use the fire extinguishers in first-person view.

2-When using the flashlight, switching to first person view makes it easier to aim the light. This is crucial when dealing with the Black Liquid enemy.

Glitches
Inferno has its share of glitches, both good and bad.

An example of bad glitches:

First place is in Chapter 3, just after you first encounter the Black Ooze the will consume you if youíre not careful there is a scene that will appear just as you come across the Ratz nest. If you die before you make it the surface it will start you back just before the Ratz nest but it skips the scene, that is what costs most people the trophy in this level, make a save just after the Black Ooze so that if this happens you can reload the scene and try it again.

The Second place is in Chapter 4, just after you set up the tow truck for the jump, a swarm of Vampirz will take Sarah away. You're first instinct will be to go into 1st person view and shoot them, DO NOT DO THIS. I've tested this several times and if you stay in 1st person view mode through that scene it will skip the second scene where a Humanz pops up and tell Edward whatís yours is mine. Don't get in a vehicle till after that either that too will skip the scene. Just stay in 3rd person and wait for both scenes to end. Save just as you arrive in that area so if the glitch occurs you can start over.

That's all I have for now, I've not found any other catastrophic glitches other than these but if anyone knows of any other feel free to list them on this thread to warn others and save them a second play through. Please keep in mind that levels can't be redone in Episode select to achieve all scenes trophy, they need to be done in 1 story mode play through.
An example of the good kind is the cabinet glitch. A lot of times, you can restock items you just picked up by leaving the room and then reopening the cabinet. Here is one such glitch:

In Episode 3, Sequence 2, there are two cabinets in the bathroom. One contains first aid spray and bandages. The other contains a bottle of explosive liquid, handkerchiefs, and bullets. Get all the items you want out of the cabinets. Leave the room and open/close your inventory. Now go back and open each cabinet to find new items. *

*Please note this is how I got them to appear.

A Day in Central Park
Complete the game

This description is misleading. You have to earn every episode trophy by playing them in their entirety, meaning without skipping any sequences. If you skip a sequence, you will need to go back and play that episode till you have finished the uncompleted sequence. Once you have all eight episode trophies, you will earn this trophy.

[top]
Cockpit Addict
Drive all the way down 59th street in Cockpit view.

You will earn this in Episode 2, Sequence 5. After finding the second car, you have to bust through two doors, drive up a ramp, then bust down one more to exit the building. Before busting through the last door, switch to cockpit view by pressing triangle. Now simply complete the sequence in this view.

If you should die, immediately press triangle again to return to cockpit view before moving forward! If you should move before returning to that view, you will have to start the sequence over again! Also, there is a checkpoint during the drive so if you reach that point and die, you don't have to start over from the very beginning.

Also, if you should miss this the first time, donít fret. Under the Episodes option on the Main Menu, you will find every episode of the game. Simply replay the sequence.

[top]
The Blind Man
Finish the 'Wake Up' sequence without blinking.

Wake Up is the first sequence of the game. During the scene, you will be prompted to push R3. Don't do it, not even once. You can easily figure out where you need to go as it will be a bit fuzzy and the thug is not shy on giving you orders. You will be safe when the game exits you out of first person view during the mirror scene.

If you should miss this the first time, donít fret. Under the Episodes option on the Main Menu, you will find every episode of the game. Simply replay the sequence.

Meet Theophile in room 943.

You canít miss this trophy as it story related.

When you final arrive in room 943, you will have a short mini-game to play where Edward tries to figure out what Theoís spirit wants them to do next. This mini-game requires Edward to close his eyes to see where Theo is pointing, then look at a specific spot. A scene with Sarah occurs, then Edward will have a scene with Theo.

If you have trouble figuring the phrase out, look in the spoiler below:

[top]
Revive
Revive Sarah.

You canít miss this trophy as it story related.

Complete the mini-game in Episode 5, Sequence 1 to revive Sarah.

It is two part. The first part requires you to press down both the L3 and R3 buttons when the beat appears on screen. You do this seven times before it switches to the second part. Now you press and hold R2. You will have to repeat once if you did it successfully the first time.

[top]
Stuntman
Jump across the gap using the tow truck.

You canít miss this trophy as it story related.

This occurs in Episode 4, Sequence 4. You will have to make a ramp out of the tow truck then jump across the gap to get to the Museum.

[top]
Hidden Cave
Discover the secret of Central Park.

You canít miss this trophy as it story related.

After you burn the final root (the one behind the barrier), you will need to use the lens to open a secret hole. Descend down to the bottom and through the corridor to find the hidden cavern.

[top]
The Path of Light
Don't Kill Sarah.

In Episode 8, Sequence 4, you are given two options: Shoot Sarah or don't shoot Sarah. For this trophy, simply put the controller down and wait the game out. Eventually the game will move on in the story.

This is considered the "Good Ending".

[top]
The Path of Darkness
Kill Sarah.

In Episode 8, Sequence 4, you are given two options: Shoot Sarah or don't shoot Sarah. For this trophy, you will have to shoot Sarah when prompted by Hermes.

This is considered the "Bad Ending" of the game as the last free act of humanity was murder.

[top]
Burning Root
Burn a root of evil.

You get your first chance to burn a root in Episode 3, Sequence 4. Before you make the jump that ends the Episode, a humanz will appear out of the ground. What he says may sound gibberish, but all you need to know is that the Evil Roots have been unlocked. Equip an explosive bottle and your gun; throw the bottle and take the root out.

See Blazing Roots for more details on the Evil Roots.

[top]
Flaming Roots
Burn half of the roots of evil.

You will earn this trophy when you have burned half of the Evil Roots. See Blazing Roots for more details.

[top]
Blazing Roots
Burn all roots of evil.

Toward the later half of the game, you will be required to burn roots of evil scattered throughout Central Park in order to earn Spectral Points. They are often guarded by humanz and, sometimes, require a bit of strategy to burn.

Below is a link with information on each individual root and also a map that shows where they appear:
http://wikicheats.gametrailers.com/A...B360_WII/Roots

You will only need 50 Spectral Points to continue. It is recommended that you get any you have missed in Episode 8, Sequence 1, but you can wait to do so during clean-up.

[top]
Basic Combination
Tape up a bottle.

As it states, simple use tape on any bottle. See Glowstick Bomb for details on first chance to earn this.

[top]
Nuke
Kill 3 Humanz at once

For this trophy, you will need to take out 3 humanz in one shot. This means using the combo Explosive Bottle + Gun.

Your best shot at this trophy is during Episode 3, Sequence 4. Here, you begin with three humanz coming after you. Run around till they are sort of together then use the explosive bottle/gun combo to take them all out at once. If you need a bottle, there is one in the trash next to you.

Adding bullets to the combo widens the range of the explosive, if you have extra bullets to spare.

[top]
The Smart Fighter
Kill any Humanz with the 'spray + lighter' combination

The lighter becomes available in Episode 2, Sequence 4. It is in the room next to Theo and Sarah. Before you do anything to move the car, I recommend searching for the lighter. If you miss it here, you can find another one in the park.

Now equip the lighter and any spray can you have. Go into first person mode. Wait till the humanz gets close (they will often retreat if you spray them too soon) then roast him.

[top]
The Molotov Cocktail
Insert a wick into a bottle with flammable content

Insert either a bandage or handkerchief into a bottle of flammable liquid. Note that you must insert the wick before you do anything else to the bottle or else this trophy will not pop up!

[top]
Cocoon
Burn a cocoon

You canít miss this trophy as it story related.

In Episode 2, Sequence 2, you have to burn a cocoon that is blocking the way to proceed.

Cocoon:

DONíT FORGET TO SHOOT THE GOLDFISH FOR FISHERMANíS FOE!!!

[top]
The Air Bomb
Throw a bottle filled with flammable liquid and shoot it mid-air.

You canít miss this as it is story related. In the bathroom in Episode 2, Sequence 2, you have to blow up the wall using this technique.

[top]
The Sticky Bomb
Take a bottle filled with flammable content or a spray and combine it with an adhesive.

As states, combine tape to any explosive bottle or spray can. See Glowstick Bomb for details on first chance to earn this trophy.

[top]
Fire Bullets
Make a fire bullet by pouring flammable liquid on it.

Go into your inventory. Combine your gun with any explosive bottle to make fire bullets.

[top]
The Glowstick Bomb
Combine a taped bottle filled with flammable content or a spray with a glowstick.

Another straight forward trophy. Combine glowsticks, an explosive bottle, and tape together. You find all three items for the first time in Episode 2, Sequence 2.You will also earn Basic Combination and The Sticky Bomb in conjunction with this one.

[top]
Useless!
Combine an empty taped bottle with a wick and an emergency flare.

This combination is straight forward. Simply combine an empty bottle (doesn't matter if it's plastic or glass) with tape, wick, and a flare. The first place I found flares was in Episode 7, Sequence 2, in the bathroom next to the fire. If you need an empty bottle, simply pour the liquid from one bottle into another or combine the bottle with your gun.

[top]
Handyman Carnby
Make all possible combinations in the inventory.

This trophy requires you to make, NOT use, many different weapon combinations in your inventory. This means you can build one, break it down, and make another one, saving you precious time and resources. Also, the game never states what these combinations are so I have listed the ones I made myself:

Empty bottle + wick + tape + emergency flare (this is a combination for the Useless trophy)
Glass explosive bottle + tape
Glass explosive bottle + tape +wick
Glass explosive bottle + tape + glowstick
Glass explosive bottle + tape + flare
Glass explosive bottle + tape + wick + flare
Plastic explosive bottle + tape
Plastic explosive bottle + tape + wick
Plastic explosive bottle + tape + glowstick
Plastic explosive bottle + tape + flare
Plastic OR Glass explosive bottle + tape + wick + ammo
Medical spray + tape
Medical spray + tape + glowstick
Medical spray + tape + flare
Mosquito spray + tape
Anti-Rust spray + tape
Bloodpack + tape
Flare + tape
Glowstick + tape
Manually (aka in your inventory) reload your gun when it has no bullets
Transfer the liquids of one bottle into another bottle

You will also need to keep a list of your own to mark off since the game keeps an invisible tally.

[top]
The Sharpshooter
Finish off a Humanz by shooting fire bullets at it's fissure.

You see those cracks that run all over the humanz? Aim for those with your gun while you have fire bullets equipped. After you hit the cracks a few times, the humanz will explode.

[top]
Demolition Expert
Build the most destructive weapon.

This trophy wants you to create a Pack Bomb. This means combining an explosive bottle with tape and ammo. The type of bottle doesn't matter so long as it's explosive.

[top]
Fissure
Burn a fissure.

Fissures are the cracks that run on the walls, in the ground, and like to suck you up like athletes do Campbell soups. You can use any method you want: Fire bullets, chair on fire, lighter+spray. You will know if you succeed if you see a line of fire appear along the crack then a trail of smoke.

[top]
The Biggest of All
Beat the Museum Monster.

You canít miss this trophy as it story related.

In Episode 5, Sequence 3, you must defeat him to continue on the story.

Museum Monster:

Goal!
Kick 10 Ratz.

Another trophy that sounds simple yet is a pain. To kick them, you must press R2 when standing by them. However, these beady little things like to move and jump you so take caution. Once you kick the tenth one, you will hear the ding.

Also note that if you die, any ratz youíve kicked beforehand will still count!

Ratz:

[top]
Toasted Eggs
Burn a Ratz nest.

Fairly straight forward trophy. Simply make a nest combust using fire. There are a few chances to do this. The first available is in Episode 3, Sequence 3, where you have to turn the valves to shut the fire off. Best bet is to equip fire bullets to your gun and shoot it.

Ratz Nest:

[top]
Vampirz
Burn one of the Vampirz

In Episode 3, youíre introduced the Vampirz:

Ignore the timer and equip both a spray can and lighter. Go into first person view and fry it.

[top]
Fisherman's Foe
Shoot a goldfish

In Episode 2, Sequence 2, you have to burn down a cocoon to proceed. In the water with you is a goldfish. It swims in a pattern so just wait for it to swim where you want it then shoot it. If it floats, you win.

[top]
Unlimited Offer
Call all contacts in your address book

Press select to bring up your phone. Go to contacts (book icon) then choose a contact to call. You will get a busy message as the city is in shambles. Keep calling till you have called all four contacts.

You can do this at any time after you get the cell from Theo in Episode 3.

[top]
Wired
Hotwire a car

When you get into a car that doesnít have a key in the ignition, you have two options: find the key on the visor and use it or hotwire the car. For this trophy, you need to look down to find the hotwire option. Complete the mini-game to start the car this way and earn you the trophy. Note that if you grab the key then you cannot hotwire the car!

Also, aside from the car in Episode 3, Sequence 3, the first possible chance I found to earn this was in Episode 7, Sequence 3. Note that, after Episode 7, Sequence 3, all the cars I got into had to be hotwired.

[top]
Car Thievery
Unlock a car door after breaking the window

You canít miss this trophy as it story related.

In Episode 2, Sequence 3, you have to break into the car to continue.

[top]
Free Gasoline
Pierce a car gas tank and fill a bottle with the fuel

First thing, you need a knife. You can find one in the glove box of some cars and occasionaly in homes. Equip the knife and the bottle you wish to refill, then approach a car that can be driven. These are the vehicles marked on your maps. You will see an icon if you are at the right spot. You will hit x twice: once to puncture and once to fill.

Note that the bottle does not have to be empty. However, to save time, it is recommended that you pour the remaining liquid into other bottles first so that you do not have to fill multiple bottles.

[top]
Never Leave a Key Here
Find a car key in the sun visor

When you get into a car that doesnít have a key in the ignition, you have two options: find the key on the visor or hotwire it. For this trophy, you need to look up and choose the visor option. If the key is there, you can grab it and start the car.

The first possible place to earn this is in conjunction with Car Thievery in Episode 2, Sequence 3. Note that I chose to look at the visor here, but later on, in Central Park, I couldnít find a car that had a key on the visor.

[top]
The 10 Mile Race
Drive at least 10 miles with a vehicle

This is not missable unless you walk the entire game. Ten miles is not far considering you will have to drive all over central park several times before the end of the game.

[top]
Eradication
Kill 100 Humanz

You should earn this by the second sequence of the last episode. If you don't, then reload Episode 8, Sequence 1, and roam around the park, killing every humanz you come across.

[top]
Bloody Mary
Bandage 5 deep bleeding wounds

When youíve been seriously injured, a timer appears. You have seven minutes to bandage your wounds or you die. Besides the timer, you will also see blood flowing off of Edward in a very obvious way. These signs show you that Edward has a deep bleeding wound.

The game is generous in that it gives you at least one deep bleeding wound to bandage during Episode 2, Sequence 1, so that you only need to do it four more times. You will most likely get them during your playthrough. If you wish to go ahead and get it over with, simply throw an explosive bottle near you and shoot it. It will always knock you down and begin the timer. Make sure when doing this that you have plenty of bandages.
