[top]Introduction

Welcome to the Atelier Meruru: The Apprentice of Arland trophy guide. I will be detailing on how to get each trophy for this game. Atelier Meruru is the third and final installment of the Arland Series, while this is the third game in the series it is not required to play the others but you'll be a little bit confused at some of the characters since some of them have carried over from the first and second game.

Atelier Meruru in my personal opinion is both the easiest and hardest trophy list of the three games. The list is very straight forward and only contains trophies for story events, character events, defeating bosses, and endings. However what makes this list harder are the bosses, and I've found I had far more difficulty fighting specific bosses but this could be different for everyone depending on how much they focus on equipment.

If this is your first Atelier game, take note that this game is all about time management. Your goal in this game is to use alchemy to help develop your kingdom. So you'll be spending a lot of your time crafting and exploring to find materials to make more and more new items to help you along your six year journey. If you are coming from Atelier Totori you'll find that everything runs the same as it did in Totori and you will still use up points for gathering and battles.

However if you are expecting to get everything done in one playthrough it just won't be possible this time around. Meruru is the first game to not be able to get every ending if you set up a perfect save file in one run. Two of the endings require you to be on a New Game+ file because you can't get one of the characters til you are NG+.

I'll be using this format for dates in my guide which translate to year/month/date. Even though year appears after the month and date in the game I'm going with consistency. Most other places use this format and I'd rather not cause any confusion by switching the year around.

The final date in this game is 6/4/1.

[top]Tips & Strategies

PREPARING A SAVE FILE FOR ENDINGS
As with all Atelier games there are multiple endings in the game which all require different things to unlock them. Even if you have all the requirements for every ending there is a priority tree that make one ending have a higher priority than another. You can only see one ending at a time as well so you will have to make sure that you have made separate save file so you can reload and trigger a specific ending.

Below is the priority tree for the endings from highest to lowest;
Miss Popular
Strongest Princess
Witch's Tea Party
Boy's Bath

Alchemist!
Finally, As Planned
Now, Go Bravely
A Rich Nation

Topsy-Turvy
Castle Life
Bad Ending
(does not have a trophy)

Below I will list specific points that you will want to have a save file for reloading, but it does help to have much more than this. I had between 11-15 different save files for both my first and second playthrough just to make sure that I covered all my bases in case I messed up a different file and needed to go further back. Below are some suggestions on where to make some of your save files;
  • After you receive the extension. The extension usually happens anytime after 10/1/3.
  • Before Ice Cascade Bomb
  • After Ice Cascade Bomb
  • Before fighting Airshatter
  • After fighting Airshatter
  • A separate file for every year after the extension
  • After making good weapons, armor, and or accessories for all of your characters (optional)

Making saves at all these critical points in the game will ensure that you won't manage to lock yourself out of specific endings. Also it would be a good idea to keep track of save file numbers somewhere and leave a brief description on what the save file is for.

Unfortunately the endings are far more spread out compared to Atelier Rorona or Totori. I've jumped across save files from early on in my game and some of the endings I could do later on depending on if the required events were meant for later on. The list of save files above will save you in case you didn't read how to get each ending under their respective section.

NEW GAME+
There are a few things about NG+ that you may want to know before you start your first playthrough and here is a run down of all the things that is different, what carries over, and what doesn't.
  • All equipped armor, weapons, and accessories will transfer
  • Items will not transfer
  • Materials will not transfer
  • Money will not transfer
  • Friendship will not transfer
  • Recipes will not transfer
  • Gio can only be recruited on NG+
  • 3 trophies can only be earned on a NG+ file

WHOLESALING
As with the other Arland games there comes a part in the game when Wholesale becomes available to use. Difference in Meruru is that this is limited to only 5 spots in the beginning and then more later on after you complete some quests for Pamela. You'll most be making use of this to
cut time in half for items you don't want to remake over and over, such as for friend requests and items for you to use in battle.

The initial items that Pamela sells, you may want to keep those in there til you can expand how many things you can register. Most of those items are used for basic synthesis and in the beginning of the game you really won't need anything special, but when you do you can update an item. As for stuff to add, that will primarily be up to you but I would want to register some healing items like Nectar, Draken Elixir, and Elixir. Down the road you may want to register ingots or cloths so you can use them to make equipment for all your characters.

EQUIPMENT AND ACCESSORIES
A large part of this game depends on what kind of equipment you have and what accesories you have as well. Some areas of the game will want you to have the best gear with the best traits to even get through a dungeon; the free DLC dungeon Makina Domain is a good example of this. However, you don't have to do this unless you plan to go through Makina, but for the platinum you can get away with some bare minimums.

I myself did not go all out on gear since trying to get all these traits to turn into other traits and get them all eventually on one item was very confusing to me, and not to mention I couldn't find specific traits on materials all the time. So what it comes down to is, make better gear for an easier game, or make lesser gear for a more difficult game so pick whatever your playstyle likes best.

Weapons:
For weapons you must at least be able to make a regentium weapon with Rainbow Power. To get Rainbow Power on your weapons you'll have to make a couple of Sky Flames with high quality items and at least have a couple Cost+ items. Then once you have the ingots with Rainbow Power, register it with Pamela so you can always have it available to make weapons for other characters.

Another popular trait is Deity Power, I have never successfully managed to get this on my weapons but the basics of it is to combine all the element traits like Fire+, Ice+, and etc, and turn them into Red+Blue and Green+Gold. Once you have those traits, you combine them together into Spirit Power, and once you have Spirit Power you combine it with Spirit Repel and that will make Deity Power.

Armor:
For armor you'll eventually want to make some medicine thread cloth with Fortified Fiber, and to get that trait is similar to the way you have to get Rainbow Power on your regentium ingots. As for other traits, I never really experimented past here but I've heard suggestions like adding defense traits, HP traits, and etc together. The more of each of the same trait you add, the more powerful they get. So if you combine two different HP traits, it'll make another stronger trait.

Accessories:
The two important accessories you will want to have are Speed Belts and Angel Charms. When you make a Speed Belt you at least want to have the effect of Whirlwind Motion, as for traits I never really looked into what would be best so I only had generic traits. As for Angel Charms, invest in getting materials to make the highest effects possible as these will prevent Instant KO's and almost all status ailments.

Other:
The other section are for things that you equip that you can see when you open the secondary equipped item menu when you are in the equip tab. There are a couple things that you may want to invest in making. First available will be the Hand Basket which will increase the size of your basket. Next important item will be the Travelers Shoes, as this item cuts down the time it takes to travel from place to place. There are many other items that you can equip, so just make some and try them out.

Another item to make would be a Warp Gate when you are at Alchemy level 40. This item can be used anywhere and will directly take you back to the workshop without using any days. Unfortunately you can't take this item with you on NG+ so you have to remake it again every time you start another game.

There are no known cheats, glitches, or exploits that I'm aware of in this game.

[top]Roadmap

Here is a general road map of a route you may follow in Atelier Meruru. There is no one way to play this game and you could get different things on each playthrough depending how well you can manage your time in the first playthrough. However I will only list three basic endings for the first playthrough and then the rest for the second.
~ First Playthrough ~

For this playthrough, I did three endings and I did all of the final character events even though I can't get the Miss Popular ending til NG+. You can do any ending you want besides the ones required for NG+, whether you'll have time for it is completely up to you. Below I will list the trophies you will always get, and then some of the potential endings to get.

The hot spring will open up after you defeat airshatter and enter and leave Mt. Yuvel again.

See Boy's Bath for how to get this trophy.

[top]
Admission Ceremony
Reach the initial goal and help Arls merge with Arland.

This trophy is story related and cannot be missed.

Finish the game. Doesn't matter what ending it is as long as you gained the extension in year 3.

[top]
Ominous Box
Battle the coffin-bound monster in the mine and emerge victorious.

Defeat the Ghost Box in the Mines.

There isn't much to this boss since it's very early on in the game. Make sure you have items to heal your characters and make sure to carry some bombs on Meruru since her staff won't be doing any real major damage at this point. You should be able to defeat it once the development quest asks you to complete it.

[top]
One From the Sky
Ascend to the ancient city and cast down the ruler of the sky.

Defeat the Wyvern in the Modis Ruins.

This will be the first boss that should give you trouble on your first playthrough depending on your progress on your level and equipment. The key here is to have some up to date armor and weapons with the Dragon Repel trait. You should also aim to be around level 30 or higher.

Here is a list of items you should have;
  • Weapons with Dragon Repel
  • A bunch of healing items of your choice
  • Items to recover MP

For the battle, make sure you save MP for when the Wyvern calls it's friends. Depending how powerful Sterk is at the time he could one shot these guys in one shot with Falken Wind. For other characters just debuff the Wyvern if they have any skills that can. As for Meruru, focus on healing or throwing bombs; it doesn't matter what type as I didn't see much of a difference between types.

[top]
God of the Forest
Put the energetic spirit of the tree into an eternal slumber.

Defeat the Forest Spirit in the Ent Forest.

This battle might be best saved for New Game+ when chances are you'll have your overpowered gear, but I'm sure it certainly is very doable on your first playthrough if you focused on making gear and such very early on. You should also be at least level 45 but higher is much prefered.

Here is the list of items that you may want to have;
  • Weapons made from regentium with at least the Rainbow Power trait
  • Armor made from Medicine Thread with the Fortified Fiber
  • Angel Charms with effects that can prevent one hit kills and status effects
  • Have Elixirs with KO Recovery and Cure-All
  • Speed Belts with Whirlwind Motion (Optional)

Definitely have high level healing items on you like an elixir with KO recovery and Cure-All. This battle can change dramatically depending on whether you have rainbow power weapons or fortified fiber on armor. If you do not have Rainbow Power on your weapons yet this battle will take much longer and it's very likely you will fail in a drawn out battle.

Characters don't particularly matter for this battle, but you could use Mimi to slow the boss down so you could get more attacks in. As for what to do with Meruru, just focus on healing and maybe throwing a bomb every so often. Magic Swords also do some decent damage I found when
I was just throwing random stuff at it.

[top]
Presence of the Flame
Subdue the Volcano Incarnate.

Defeat Airshatter in Mt. Yuvel without Gio in your party.

This will be one of your roughest battles on your first playthrough if you are not prepared. At the least be at level 45 but it'll get easier the higher you are. Here is the run down of stuff to have for this fight;
  • Weapons made from regentium with at least the Rainbow Power trait
  • Armor made from Medicine Thread with the Fortified Fiber and Resist Fire traits
  • Have Elixirs with either the Lively or Pepped Up trait, and can heal MP
  • Speed Belts with Whirlwind Motion (Optional)

You will absolutely need to have rainbow power on your weapons at the least and have the best armor that you can possibly make with fortified fiber and some fire resist. However that alone probably won't help much and your characters will probably still drop a lot.

Definitely carry Elixirs with KO recovery and maybe some with MP recovery cause you have to maintain characters MP that are using debuffs and such. Whether you use Elixirs with the lively or pepped up trait is up to you. I was fine without them.

It'll be a slow battle but just keep whittling away at his HP and eventually he'll go down. One attack to keep note is the one shot party kill move airshatter has. As long as you assist meruru, she will not die and then she can revive everyone back up on the next turn.

[top]
Changing the Past
Bring closure tot he tragedy of Arls.

This trophy can only be earned on New Game+

Defeat Airshatter in Mt. Yuvel with Gio in your party.

First things first, Airshatter is now on steroids. He is now much much more powerful than before. If you are lacking in gear traits like I was chances are you will probably not be able to kill him til you are at least level 80. Of course if you have better gear you can probably do this around level 60 or so. Here is the run down of stuff that you'll want to have for this battle;
  • Weapons made from regentium with at least the Rainbow Power trait
  • Armor made from Medicine Thread with the Fortified Fiber and Resist Fire traits
  • Angel Charms with effects that can prevent one hit kills and status effects
  • Have Elixirs with either the Lively or Pepped Up trait, and can heal MP
  • Speed Belts with Whirlwind Motion (Optional)

This fight is pretty much exactly the same as fighting Airshatter without Gio except the attacks are far more powerful. So I suggest at this point you have elixirs with the pepped up trait for safety.

However the key to this battle lies within Gio. He has a skill that gives him a chance to attack again and if you do this over and over he'll keep building his special gauge. He'll be doing overall the most damage in this fight because of this method alone.

Your secondary party member is really up to you. I always had Sterk in my party but there are better party members to have like Mimi because of her lowering speed skill. Esty is also a good choice with her defense debuff and the skill that raises damage.

Another thing you should make for this battle are three Angel Charms with the effect to prevent One Hit KO's, and the effect to prevent most if not all ailments. These help tremendously. I made three of them with the highest possible effects and on every turn my characters gained 66 health.

[top]
Closer to God
Stare into the abyss and win out against the evil godess.

Defeat the Twilight Maiden in the Endless Corridor.

This battle should be a lot easier after fighting either variation of Airshatter. However it doesn't mean that this boss is a pushover. She can attack three times in one go and alone that can get irritating and deadly. Suggested level is around 45-50.

Here are some things you'll want to have;
  • Weapons made from regentium with at least the Rainbow Power trait, Demon Repel will also help
  • Armor made from Medicine Thread with the Fortified Fiber trait
  • Angel Charms with effects that can prevent one hit kills and status effects
  • Have Elixirs with either the Lively or Pepped Up trait, and can heal MP
  • Speed Belts with Whirlwind Motion (Optional)

Just keep debuffing her and keep HP and MP up high because she can attack usually three times in one go.

How to unlock Endless Corridor;
  • Build all three facilities that Astrid asks you to make; Each cost 100DP for a grand total of 300DP
  • Reach Alchemy Level 41

Castle Life
Return to your boring life in the castle.

To get this ending you must finish the game without reaching 100,000 population.

This is easier said than doing. Regardless of what you do population will raise and unless you never build anything that raised population, you may find yourself stuck. If you try to run around the map to end the game and run out of popularity you will end up with the bad ending which has no trophy. What I did was I reloaded a save that was shortly after the extension and I ran around the map til the game ended and had around 90k population at the end.

However I've come across another method which I never tested but I know will more than likely work which I wish I realized earlier. As long as you aren't in Arls you will never receive the message from Rufus that you went over 100k. It's said that as long as you don't see that event, it won't update in the MeMeMo and you'll be able to get the trophy. So all you need to do is load up a file before 100k and run around the map til the game ends.

A Rich Nation
Make Arls rich, developing it into an agricultural powerhouse.

To get this ending you have to defeat Airshatter without Gio in your party.

This ending will coincide with the Presence of the Flame trophy, and once you have that trophy you will know you are on the right track. Make sure you go back to Arls to trigger some scenes after defeating Airshatter as forgetting to do this will not trigger the ending. Once the MeMeMo updates it'll now be safe to run around the map til the game ends.

Now, Go Bravely
Arm Arls to the teeth and take command of it all.

To get this ending you must lose to Masked G in the Hart Outpost. This ending has a lower priority than the True ending aka Alchemist! trophy and you want to make sure that you do not defeat Airshatter with Gio in your party or you will not be able to trigger this ending.

Here are the run down of events to get this ending;
  • Defeat the Wyvern in the Modis Ruins
  • Late year 4, you'll be notified by Hanna in Namiki Road that there is a lizard invasion
  • Return to Modis Ruins to defeat some lizards and return to Arls
  • You'll receive a new development quest to help Hart Outpost; this might be optional
  • Talk to Sterk and defeat him
  • If you completed the last development quest, you'll receive another one; this is optional as I skipped it when I was rushing endings
  • A good indicator of when you can fight the lizard boss is when your MeMeMo says that she wants to fight it now, once you have that don't bother with development and go to the Modis Ruins where the Wyvern used to be.
  • Defeat the Lizard boss alone
  • Return to Arls for a scene, and a few days later Masked G will challenge you. You may need to kick Gio out of your party to trigger this.
  • Head to Hart Outpost, and a scene will start and you'll automatically be sent into battle. Gio must not be in your party.
  • Lose to Masked G

The only battle of note here you would only need to worry about is Sterk and the Lizard boss, but at long as you've got an item or accessory that can heal you after you are damaged or on your turn, you will be fine in this battle. Elixirs with Lively or Pepped up are useful, but can be wasteful when an Angel Charm can do all the work without having to spend money.

Finally, As Planned
Make friends with the forever-14 Rorolina Frixell.

To get this ending you must make the Potion of Youth and not reach alchemy level 50. I highly suggest you don't make the Ice Cascade bomb during this route because it is a requirement for the other ending that also requires the Potion of Youth. If you do continue, just make sure you don't bring Gio with you to fight Airshatter because the Alchemist! ending has a higher priority.

Here are the required events to trigger this ending;
  • Build all three facilities that Astrid asks you to build; 300DP total
  • Once they are all built, soon after Astrid will tell you where the Endless Corridor is
  • Defeat the Twilight Maiden in the Endless Corridor
  • At some point in late year 4, Astrid will show you the Potion of Youth
  • Once you have seen that scene you have to make an Elixir, Draken Elixir, and a Secret Remedy. (Tells you this in the MeMeMo)
  • You should now be able to make the Merulixir; make it and show it to Astrid and Totori
  • Astrid will ask you to find an Abyssal Soul, which you already have from the Twilight Maiden; Leave and enter Astrid's Residence again so she'll recognize that you have it
  • You can now make the Potion of Youth
  • Afterward you'll get a scene with Hagel, and shortly after another scene with Esty.

If the MeMeMo updates and shows no further information you may now run along the world map til the end of the game or if Meruru seems to be questioning something, you may still have another scene to watch before the ending triggers.

Boy's Bath
Transform Arls into a grand vacation paradise.

To get this ending you must construct Spa Land for 300DP.

The requirements for this ending need you do have defeated airshatter, doesn't matter which version since Boy's Bath has a higher priority than both the Airshatter related endings. However you need to be very prepared for this ending as you will not have enough to build all the materials needed since one of the items take six days to make and you need ten of them.

So, to prepare for this ending make sure you have your Hom's synth tons of ingots, alchemy coal, and polish powder. You can also register ingots to Pamela to always have a source of ingots in case you have none. Once you have all these materials, make 10 Alchemy Steel before you go to fight Airshatter. You don't have to make them all at one time, just make them when you have some free time.

Now here are the events you have to follow to trigger this ending;
  • After every arrival of a new character; Speak to Peter in Namiki Road
  • Speak to Peter in Namiki Road around the middle of Year 4
  • One week later he will ask for a Dowsing Rod and a Living Pickaxe
  • One month later visit the Tavern. Esty will be unavailable after this.
  • One month later Esty will return
  • Defeat Airshatter and return to Arls
  • Return to Mt. Velus and leave and you'll discover the hot springs
  • Return to Arls and visit the Tavern to trigger some scenes
  • Talk to Astrid, Esty, Female Hom, Filly, Hanna, Keina, Mimi, Pamela, Rorona, and Totori.
  • Go to Namiki Road and leave in the carriage
  • Once you are at the hot spring the Girl's Bath trophy will trigger.
  • Return to Arls and Peter will ask you to make a Spring Pump and 10 Pipes.
  • Make and Hand them into Peter and he'll say you can make Spa Land now
  • Talk to Rufus and construct Spa Land for 300DP

Once Spa Land is constructed, make sure to be in Arls to see a scene showing following it's construction. Once the MeMeMo updates you'll now be able to run around the map til the game ends.

[top]
Topsy-Turvy
Take Arls population to the limit and turn it into a superpower.

To get this ending you must reach 100,000 population.

Once you reach 100k population, make sure you get the message from Rufus saying you've reached 100k population and the MeMeMo updates to say that Arls has become a Metropolis. Make sure at this point that you don't complete any other requirements for other endings and just run around the map til the game ends.

Strongest Princess
Become a hero and the land's strongest princess.

To get this ending you must defeat Masked G in the Hart Outpost. This ending is exactly the same as the Now, Go Bravely trophy and the only difference is now you have to defeat Masked G, which is easier said than done. Below I'll give some tips on what to do to defeat him.

Here are the run down of events to get this ending;
  • Win to Masked G

Now, Masked G is no doubt the hardest battle in this entire game. You will need to prepare heavily for this battle because if you aren't you'll find yourself reloading very old saves just to build new weapons, armor, and accessories. By time I did the Masked G battle I was level 90 and he was still dropping my characters usually in one shot. However, make this known I did not have perfect armor and such as I couldn't be bothered, but it just shows that you can still beat Masked G with even the most lowest builds. However in the end, level does not matter in this battle, it's all about gear. The better gear you have the easier this battle will be.

Here is the gear I brought with me;
  • Weapons with Rainbow Power and Spirit Power
  • Armor with Fortified Fiber (no real other traits of note)
  • Speed Belts with Whirlwind Motion
  • Angel Charms with the best effects
  • Elixirs with Pepped up, I also had my Homs making Elixirs for me too so I had a wide range of options to give my party
  • Meteors with Soul Steal (from Pendelooks)
  • Mystical Ankh with speed

Next thing to do is pick what party members you want to bring with you. The best ones to bring are Lias and Mimi, however Esty is a good alternative in case you locked yourself out of Lias. Mimi has two skills that you will use the entire battle, which is her lower speed attack, and her last
skill which ignores the defense of the enemy. As for Lias you'll mostly be making use of his one skill; Rush Combo which lowers the wait time for his next attack. As for Esty her greatest asset is her speed, her lower defense skill, and her raise damage skill.

Most of this battle will be you fighting to make sure that Masked G can't get a turn and you'll be spending time making sure he's slowed down. At the start of the battle use a Mystical Ankh on Mimi so she can slow him down immediately. At this point now just continue spamming the best skills and reapply slow to Masked G when it wears off. If you know your Meruru can withstand attacks, let her take the attack but make sure someone always assists when Masked G is about to do his "Einz..." attack as that will surely one shot Meruru and last thing you need is for her to go down. I say to let her take the attacks because you won't waste any of the gauge of your side characters as you'll need them for this one trick. At the top of the screen you can see what attack he will use beforehand so make use of this.

When you have the gauge at 3 for both characters, fire a Meteor and follow the prompts til on the screen to make a super Meteor. This Meteor alone will take 50+ damage to him at a time and it's one of the key things you'll need to defeat him since you'll barely do double digits to him normally.

It will be a slow battle but if you follow the above you will get him sooner or later.

[top]
Witch's Tea Party
Master alchemy and together become fearedas the Four Witches.

To get this ending you must make the Potion of Youth and reach Alchemy level 50. Another requirement that is different from the Finally, as Planned ending is that you need to make the Ice Cascade Bomb. I still suggest you ignore Airshatter for this route, but either Airshatter route will not interfere with this ending as Witch's Tea Party has a higher priority.

Here are the required events to trigger this ending;
  • Make sure you are alchemy level 50 and have seen the scene with Totori after making an item
  • Make the Ice Cascade Bomb

The last two things can be done at any time. However once all of this is done, make sure the MeMeMo updates and that Meruru is no longer questioning things anymore and you should be able to trigger the ending. If it does not trigger, you missed a scene in Arls.

Miss Popular
Gain popularity with everyone.

This trophy can only be earned on New Game+

To get this ending you must get all characters at the specified friendship levels and view all their final character events in one playthrough. This is also the ending with the highest priority, and one of the easiest endings to mess up your New Game+ run if you mistakenly viewed all character events. Once you have viewed all the character events, enter the workshop and you'll see a scene with Gino and Mimi and then the MeMeMo will update. When that is done just run around the map til the game ends.

Characters that require at least 80 friendship;
  • Esty
  • Gino
  • Keina
  • Lias
  • Mimi
  • Rorona
  • Sterk
  • Totori

Characters that require at least 50 friendship;
  • Gio
  • Hanna
  • Rufus

To hold this ending back from triggering, the easiest characters to do this with are Lias, Rorona, and Mimi. However, word of warning if you leave Lias as the last one you may have trouble with the Strongest Princess trophy if you planned to use Lias for it. If you leave Rorona, make sure you have more than 30 days before the end of the game so you can construct the Pie Shop later.

Alchemist!
Become an alchemist of Arland and open Aterlier Meruru.

This trophy can only be earned on New Game+

To get this ending you have to defeat Airshatter with Gio in your party.

This trophy will coincide with the Changing the Past trophy, and once you unlock that trophy you will know you are on the right track. Make sure to return to Arls to see some scenes regarding you defeating Airshatter, and once the MeMeMo updates you'll be able to see this ending. Once you have done this, just run around the map til the game ends.

Meruru Statue Complete
