[top]Tips and Strategies

  • All Trophies are in XMB Order
  • To access the DLC, head to any fast travel station and you will now have Hunter's Grotto added to your locations. Head here to begin the DLC.
  • Unlike the other DLCs, this DLC is meant to be played at a high level. The game will scale to your game play level as long as you are over level 30. If you are under level 30, don't expect to see monsters in the 10-20 range. I played through this with a level 50 character so this is unconfirmed and just what I have read on the internet. If someone confirms this please let me know
  • This DLC adds in several new enemy creature types as well as Savages. The Savages are quite possibly the most irritating part of the DLC, especially the Witch Doctors
  • Just because there are only three trophies, don't think this is a small DLC. This DLC has a lot to do and adds a ton of gameplay to the story.
  • This DLC introduces Fan Boats as a new vehicle, and all the Catch a Rides have been cleverly changed to Catch a Boats. These come in several different weapon types and have several skins to unlock as well. They seat two people, are easily maneuverable and are a fine addition. I just wish I could use them in the regular story

[top]Loot

Loot can be found EVERYWHERE on Pandora. It falls from defeated enemies, is hidden in boxes, chests, lockers, safes and even toilets, can be bought from vending machines, and is given you you for completing quests. You can only carry so much loot in your backpack at one time, so always be mindful of how much space you have and what you need, then grab the best loot to sell for extra income. I recommend spending some Eridium to upgrade both your Backpack and your Bank Safe capacities at the Black Market Dealer to maximize the amount of loot you can carry and hold. The most difficult enemies will yield you the best equipment, also the more players that you are playing with will increase the chance at better loot items. Below is a breakdown of the Loot for new players to learn about the game.

Loot Color Loot Rarity Loot Description
White Common These are the crappy white colored guns you find everywhere. They are alright in the beginning of the game, but once you get going and have some good weapons there isn't really much of a use to pick these up. The majority of these come without any add ons that make the weapon better.
Green Uncommon The Green level weapons are almost as easy to find as the white ones, but the green weapons are very useful. The green weapons almost always have some type of elemental add on to the gun as well as enhanced accessories
Blue Rare Most Blue weapons aren't that much better than there Green counterparts, but they are worth better money for resale. That being said, while the elemental and accessories add ons for Blue weapons aren't much better, some of them have a great leap in damage
Purple Very Rare These will have a small increase in elemental damage over the Blue weapons, but Purple weapons always have a Scope on the gun, not matter what type of gun it is.
Magenta Ultra Rare/E-TEC This is new for Borderlands 2. The Magenta color is strictly for E-TEC weapons. The E-TEC weapons turn the ammo for the weapon into bolts of energy. Some of these weapons are very powerful and very hard to find
Orange Legendary Currently this is the top of the pyramid in terms of weaponry. These will always have increased perks you can't find in other weapons as well as fantastic bonuses.
Pink Seraph Crystal After you complete the game you will gain access to Voracidous the Invincible. When you defeat him, he will drop a random number of Pink Seraph Crystals. These Crystals can be traded in at the Crystal Dealer in The Hunter's Lodge for weapons that are more rare than the Orange Legendary Weapons. That being said, you can only fight them once a day, but you can fight all the Seraph Guardians for more. There are actually some pretty nice weapons that have been added to the Seraph Shops with these newer DLCs that make getting them worthwhile.

[top]Elemental Weapons

Elemental Weapons can be found on all weapons that you find with the exception of the White weapons. Having a good mix of elemental weapons can mean the difference between a grueling difficult battle and a nice easy battle. The key to elemental weaponry is to know what elements work best against what enemies and their enhancements. Below is a breakdown of the weapons and their specialties.

Elemental Type Specialties
Explosive Weapons Explosive Weapons are great against all types of enemies, but they are fantastic against large groups that are close together, or against shielded enemies. Each round fired will explode on impact causing splash damage to all enemies in the vicinity. With this in mind, you can be creative with the attacks and target the ground near an enemy that is in cover and use the splash damage to knock them out of hiding for a better shot. The drawbacks of these weapons is that the majority of them have a very slow rate of fire.
Corrosive Weapons Corrosive Weapons will coat the enemy in acid, which will eat away at them causing constant damage until the effect has gone away. Corrosive Weapons work great against all enemies that aren't a Corrosive based such as the Caustic Goliaths. Corrosive Weapons are best used against enemies that have Armor. If the enemy has the gold bar that represents Armor, such as all the Hyperion Mechs, use a Corrosive Weapon to eat through it.
Fire Weapons Fire Weapons work the same as Corrosive Weapons and will light the enemies on fire. One of the big differences here, is that the the enemy that is on fire can light other enemies on fire if they run into each other. The fire won't hurt you if they bump you, BUT an enemy on fire can ignite barrels and explosive tanks if they get close to it which can send you straight to the New U station if you are standing too close. Fire Weapons, are fantastic against any human enemies that you battle as their flesh quickly ignites and burns fast, but are NOT overly good against Armored enemies.
Shock Weapons Shock Weapons are good to have, but they aren't as effective as Fire and Corrosive Weapons. When an enemy is hit with a Shock Weapon, there is a chance the attack will electrocute them for a few seconds causing bonus damage, but the effect is very brief. The big advantage to Shock Weapons is that they overload the enemies shields and bring them down quickly. This can be very useful against stalkers as they won't be able to Phaseshift if you bring down their shields.
Slag Weapons Slag Weapons are new to Borderlands 2. A Slag Weapon will coat the target in Slag, which then causes all other attacks to do more damage. Slag doesn't cause damage to the enemy, but if you have a strong weapon with a Slag Enhancement, such as a sniper rifle, you can cause some major damage after you coat the enemy in Slag.

Face Off
Completed the mission "The Fall of Nakayama"

The final story mission of the game will have you hunting down the good Professor Nakayama, who has challenged you to battle. Still unsure of the logic everyone has...you defeated Jack AND the Warrior and all the Invincibles, yet everyone wants a piece of you all the time. Anyway, head to the Map Marker to get to Candlerakks Crag. Once you are there prepare for a huge battle against an entire army of Savages. You will face nonstop Savages all the way until you get to the HSS Terminus. Once you get there, head through the small opening and prepare for the final battle.

Jackenstein
Jackenstein is a massive armored Bullymong that lives down inside the Sunken Cargo Room of the Terminus. If you are a Bee Shield/Shotgun user, I recommend putting them away for this battle as the majority of the shotgun ammo will end up bouncing off the Bullymong and some of it will probably hit you and cause you an annoying self inflicted death. Switch to a more precise weapon such as the Infinity Pistol or Baby Maker and aim for the Electrified targets on the Bullymongs back. As soon as you take one down, he will retreat to an upper area and deploy a shield. Once he does that prepare for a pile of Hyperion robots. This is a good time to change back to your Corrosive shotgun and take down the robots. After a few minutes, whether you kill the Hyperion robots or not, Jackenstein will return. Take out the other Electrified target on his back and he will retreat again. Once this happens another wave of Hyperion bots will attack, including Exploding Bots...very annoying

Once he jumps back down, he will have two attacks. He will put his arms together and dash across the battlefield. This will almost always hit you, so you just do your best to avoid it. His second attack is an electrified ball attack. he will stand up, and shoot a spread of these across the battlefield. When he stands up, aim for his face as it isn't armored, and lay into him. It might take a few tries but he will fall quite fast once you get the hang of it.

Professor Nakayama
Once Jackenstein falls, prepare yourself for the most difficult boss battles of the entire game. I would give you tips, but I don't want to spoil the badassery you are about to face.....Good luck

Done That
Completed all Hammerlock's Hunt side missions

Hunter's Grotto Lodge
  • Mission Name: Still Just a Borok in a Cage
Mission Giver and Location: Bounty Board
    Prerequisite: Savage Lands completed.
    Strategy:
Head towards the map marker which leads you back towards the entrance to the area, and head through the small opening in the cliff wall to enter some caves. On the other side of the caves is a completely new area. Take out the Boroks that frequent this first area, and look in the air for any spores that might need killing. Head down to the water and across to the other side to find a cage at the map marker. Now head back the other way, and go to the left of the exit from the cliff wall to find another pile of Boroks and Der Monstrositat who is at the back of the area. Get him to chase you all the way back to the cage. Once he is inside, press the button on the back of the cage, then use the boxes to jump out of the opening to complete the mission.

  • Mission Name: Egg on your Face
Mission Giver and Location: Bounty Board
    Prerequisite: Savage Lands completed.
    Strategy:
For this mission you must find 23 Drifter Eggs that have been scattered about the Hunter's Grotto area. The Drifter Eggs are rather large pink eggs that look similar to a big rock with a blue beam of light emitting from them indicating a mission item. There are more than 23 of these laying around the area so you don't really need to look for a guide for them, but just in case you are having trouble, I have listed the 23 I found below. Once you have found all 23 of these, you must go to the small Village located at the map marker and use the elevator to make your way down to a lower cavern. Inside you will find Arizona, the mother of all these Drifters. Take her out to finish the mission.

  • Mission Name: I Like My Monsters Rare
Mission Giver and Location: Bounty Board
    Prerequisite: Savage Lands completed.
    Strategy:
This trophy is a pain, I'm not going to lie. For this trophy you must kill a pile of "Rare" monsters from each of the monsters that roam this DLC. The monsters aren't located in a certain location, they will just random spawn wherever you find the monsters. I have listed some areas where it is easy to find them. To force quicker respawns, you can Save and Quit, and reload your game and they will all be respawned. On the bright note, they seem to have a pretty high respawn rate and you should have most of them before you have finished the regular story of the game if you accept this mission early enough.
    • Kill 8 Pink Boroks: These are located on the main path in Hunter's Folly, heading towards Scylla's Grove. Where you found Das Monstrositat.
    • Kill 8 Tailless Scaylions: I personally thought his was the easiest group to take down. You can find these all over the place, but a bunch are found in the caverns of Scylla's Grove
    • Kill 6 Two Legged Drifters: These took me the longest to spawn. They only spawn around Hunter's Gorge, around the Lodge. Kill the one's that spawn, then "Save and Quit" to force more to respawn.
    • Kill 5 Albino Skags: There is a pile of Skags that will appear in the caves behind the Ardortyon Docks where you go during the Urine, Your Out side mission. You can also find some in the very beginning of the facilities where you go for the Follow the Glow side mission in Ardorton Station
    • Kill 4 Slagged Spores: Spores frequent many areas, but I always saw Slagged ones around the village by the cage you lead Das Monstrositat to for the Still Just a Borok in a Cage side mission.

  • Mission Name: An Acquired Taste
    Mission Giver and Location: Hammerlock
    Prerequisite: Savage Lands completed.
    Strategy:
From the Hunter's Lodge, face the beginning of the area, jump down from the lodge, and turn left. Now head all the way over to the cliffs and you will find a gate. Head inside and use the elevator to reach a higher area. Head across the area and you will find a large gate just before the Den for the Borok. Lure one of the overly aggressive savages over to you, then use the lever to smash him to lure out Bulstoss. Take his ass down, and the mission will be complete.

  • Mission Name: Palling Around
    Mission Giver and Location: Hammerlock
    Prerequisite: Chapter 1 completed.
    Strategy:
From the lodge, head back down the stairs and head across the small lake, then cross the ramp to get to the big lake. Now head right and go up to the Bullymong Lair at the end of the path. Take out all the Bullymongs and Bullymok will appear. Take him out to complete the mission

  • Mission Name: Now You See It
    Mission Giver and Location: Hammerlock
    Prerequisite: Chapter 2 completed.
    Strategy:
Before heading out, grab the Pheromones from the bookcase and grab a good shock weapon, then head to Candlerakks Crag, and then to Lower Bluff. Once you are there, place the Vial on the rocks, equip the shock weapon and then smash the Phial. You will now have one minute to take down Bloodtail the Stalker that lives here. While he isn't strong, he has a very strong shield and with only one minute to complete this, you need to get that shield down fast. If you don't kill him within one minute you must go back to the Hunter's Lodge and grab more Pheromones and try again.

  • Mission Name: Big Feet
    Mission Giver and Location: Hammerlock
    Prerequisite: Chapter 2 completed.
    Strategy:
Head to Candlerakks Crag, and head down the main path. Take your first right up into the mountain and inspect the big ass round footprint near the top of the hill to move the mission forward. Now proceed to Big Bluff at the map marker to find Rouge a Pink Crystalisk. He is fairly strong and has a lot of life, but if you have a powerful shotgun you can take out his legs quickly and he won't last more than a minute or so.

  • Mission Name: Voracidous the Invincible
    Mission Giver and Location: Hammerlock
    Prerequisite: Chapter 3 completed.
    Strategy:
See the section at the bottom of the guide for tips on how to beat this massive Stalker.

Scylla's Grove - Roothill Village
  • Mission Name: Ol' Pukey
    Mission Giver and Location: Claptrap
    Prerequisite: Chapter 1 completed.
    Strategy:
Head to the map marker at Grifter's Reach to find Ol' Pukey. Once you find him, you have to protect him from the onslaught of incoming Savages that want to kill him. Once you are finished he will spit out the broken Claptrap and the mission will end.

  • Mission Name: Nakayama-Rama
    Mission Giver and Location: Claptrap
    Prerequisite: Chapter 1 completed.
    Strategy:
For this mission you must find 4 Echo Recorders that have been scattered around Scylla's Gorge.
    • Echo Recorder #1: From the ground, head up the village towards Roothill Village. When you get to the top of the first structure, instead of crossing the bridge, use the stairs to go over the backside of the structure to find this on a table.
    • Echo Recorder#2: Head to Grifter's Reach and head into the cave on the opposite side of the lake to find this.
    • Echo Recorder #3: Head to Ardortyon Docks, and head up the stairs to find this on some crates on the tallest building.
    • Echo Recorder #4: Head towards Low Gut Rut, and before you go through the opening to that area, go to the very top of the buildings on the left side to find this on the top level

  • Mission Name: Urine, You're Out
    Mission Giver and Location: Claptrap
    Prerequisite: Chapter 1 completed.
    Strategy:
You can only complete this mission at night! Head to the caverns behind the Ardortyon Docks and look for the 5 yellow markings on the boxes in the area. Interact with them to clean them off.

  • Mission Name: The Rakk Dahlia's Murder
    Mission Giver and Location: Claptrap
    Prerequisite: Chapter 1 completed.
    Strategy:
Head to Low Gut Rut, and find the Rocket at the map marker. Now head back towards the Village and head up the rocks to get to the launcher above the area. Once you are there, place the rocket in the launcher and interact with the launcher to fire it off and take out the Giant Rakk that attacks.

  • Mission Name: Follow the Glow
    Mission Giver and Location: Claptrap
Prerequisite: Chapter 2 completed AND complete 1st set of side missions from Claptrap
    Strategy:
You can only complete this mission at night! Head to the entrance to Ardorton Station and find the pee marks. Now head through the portal to the station. In the next area, head to the map marker and take out Dribbles the Incontinent Skag that is hiding with the other skags.

Been There
Discovered all named locations in Hammerlock's Hunt

Much like the regular game and UNLIKE the Captain Scarlett DLC, you must not only find ALL named locations for this trophy, but you must also uncover EVERY part of all the maps associated with the DLC. So if you think you have everything and the trophy hasn't unlocked, go back through all the areas and make sure there isn't any small part that you can't see the thick white border around for the edge of the map. there are a couple of very irritating tunnels in Scylla's Grove, that can be a pain and won't open on the map unless you get right up to the end of the area and jump around.

[top]Voracidous the Invincible

Disappointed with the relative ease of Pyro Pete the Invincible from the last DLC? Not to fear, they have added an Invincible with this DLC, that might possibly be the most difficult of all the Invincibles in the entire game. The final mission of the game will send you to face the might Voracidous. Now despite him not being as large as you would think for all Hammerlock's build up, he is extremely powerful with an assload of HP and a massive shield.

[top]Step 2: The Battle

Voracidous is a Seraph Guardian, which means, not only will he drop Seraph Crystals, he will also not attack until you have attacked him. Unfortunately this also means, you can only fight him once per day and anyone defeated during the battle will be locked out of the arena until the battle is over. If you are trying to do this battle legit, I don't recommend heading into this battle with less than a party of 4. Yes this will make him stronger, but you will need the extra help. If you have level 50 friends that are commandos, make sure you bring them along as the turrets will be most useful during this battle. You should also have at least one Siren, with the Res ability as you will need to do a lot of rehealing during the battle. When the battle starts, Voracidous will be vulnerable with no shield for a brief period. Try and take his health down as much as possible before Chief Ngwatu spawns. Once he spawns, Voracidous won't take any damage as they both attack you. Turn your focus on him to try and take down his shield. Once you get to a certain point, he will give his shield to Voracidous and become vulnerable to attack. As soon as you have finished him off, his shield is transferred to Voracidous and he enters rage mode which makes him more powerful.

This is where the Trespasser Sniper Rifle comes into play. If you happen to still have this weapon, it can bypass the shield and deal direct damage to Voracidous, Now that being said, I haven't tried this method, it is simply a strategy I read online and given the experience myself and Broken had in this battle, I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to get the gun to try this. Voracidous has a massive shield and a shit ton of HP. It took Broken and I about 30 minutes and we were well out of ammo for all of our most powerful weapons including our Norfleet Rocket Launchers, Baby Makers, Conference Calls, and Homing Grenades, before his shield was even down. Any Shock versions of your most powerful weapons will be most useful here. You will want the Infinity Pistol to have much of a chance of finishing this Invincible off.

During the battle Voracidous has a number of attacks similar to any Stalker in the game. Mercifully he can't go invisible, but he well chase you around and melee attack you, he will fire projectiles at you, and when he stands up and roars he unleashes a Nova Attack that can one shot kill you even with full shields from anywhere on the map. If you are having trouble with this try equipping a more powerful shield, like the Hide of Terramorphus, instead of your trusty Bee Shield. There isn't anywhere to hide from him and he is generally just a huge pain in the ass.

Don't be fooled by the internet!! You can go on Youtube and find vids of people that have beat him in a matter of seconds. This isn't possible WITHOUT some type of glitching or mods. Broken and myself tried these methods of their vids legit and they don't work

If you are having trouble with this character, you can use the weapon damage glitch. The video below will show you how to do the Weapon Glitch but you will need the Evil Smasher Shotgun for this glitch.

Voracidous the Invincible Video Strategy Guide

[top]Dexiduous the Invincible

Once you have finished off Voracidous, it will be time to take out the hidden Invincible of the DLC. Now this Invincible ISN'T part of the story, or a Side Mission, so this is completely optional, but if you are a true hunter and want to say you have personally battled and defeated every single Invincible in the game, make sure you take him down.

[top]Step 2: The Battle

The first thing you will need to do for this encounter is seek out the 4 totem poles that have Eridium Furnaces located at the bottom of them. These are all located in Hunter's Gorge and take about 21-27 Eridium each. If you don't have enough, make one of your friends contribute to the cause. I'm going to list below the 4 totem locations based on the thought of you having completed all the side missions in the game already. If you haven't and need more help please refer to the video below.
  1. The first Totem is in the small village above the cage you need to lead Der Monstrositat into during the Still Just a Borok in a Cage side mission. After heading up the first set of stairs from the village below, you will find this on the left side.
  2. The second Totem is in Arizona's lair from the Egg on Your Face side mission. She will respawn if you are doing this after you have finished the game, so be prepared for a battle.
  3. The third Totem is to the left of Bulstross' lair, near the edge of the cliff, from the An Acquired Taste side mission. he will also respawn if you are doing this after the mission was complete.
  4. From the last Totem, Jump off the edge to the village below and you can find this final totem to the right of the village heading towards the Bullymong's lair on the shore of the lake.

Once you have placed the Eridium in all 4 Totems, head back to the Hunters Lodge and reload your weapons if you are low on ammo. Now head towards the beginning of the area, and just after the Savage Village near the Lodge you will find a Totem with a lever you can pull. All 4 Torches should be lit at the totem signifying you have placed the Eridium in all 4 Furnaces. Pull the lever and the battle will start.

The opening of the battle consists of several waves of Savages, so don't think something is wrong if he doesn't spawn right away. The Savages start out pretty strong, but as the eaves of Savages continue to spawn, you will have several Witch Doctors and Badass Savages spawning. The Badass Savages can be a huge pain as they can evolve into Super and Ultimate Badasses if left in the battle for long enough. In addition to that, they attack with the Witch Doctors and they can heal the Badasses if they are left in the battle. Once you have cleared them all out, Dexiduous will jump down from the rocks above and you will get your first look at possible the biggest Invincible in the game.

Now Dexiduous doesn't have a shield, but he has massive HP. In addition to that, he is somewhat glitchy in the way he takes damage. He will have white critical points that appear on his body and hitting these will cause a fairly good amount of damage. When Broken and I were battling him, I wasn't doing any damage unless I hit one of these even though I could hear my bullets hitting him with my Bee Shield, but Broken could see the hit points from shooting him anywhere with his guns even if it wasn't the critical points...weird. He isn't overly fast, BUT he is so big, he has a large stride and can cover good distances fairly fast. He is immune to Lightning Damage so don't even bother using that on him.

Now your best strategy for Dexiduous is to USE THE FAN BOATS!. That's right, the Fan Boats are available for this as he is out in the open. In addition to that if you have the Bee Shield equipped it will magnify all the damage dealt from the Fan Boats as well. There is very conveniently a Catch a Boat station right near the battle so you can always get a new one as well. Use the Corrosive Fan Boats and take his bitch ass down with relative ease. This is a better strategy than any of the other weapons against him. Also since Dexiduous ISN'T a Seraph Guardian, if someone in your party dies, they will simply respawn and can re enter battle.
