[top]About the DLC:

Whereas, the Dr. Zed DLC expanded upon the storyline; Mad Moxxi's Underdome Riot adds an entire new gameplay mode with a more traditional FPS arena deathmatch feel to it (as the name implies).

I should emphasize up front that you receive 0 exp from enemies killed in The Underdome, but you can still obtain exp from completing challenges within The Underdome. So, this is a fun place to reside after you have maxed out at level 50 or are Trophy Hunting and that's about it.

Also, a much needed Bank Feature (42 Slots when maxed) has been incorporated and located in the main Underdome Hub to store your valuables.

If that was not enough, completing the required objectives will net you a total of 2 new skill points. So, if you have been maxed out at level 50 for a while now at least you have the ability to beef up your character that little bit more.

Ammo/Bank quantity upgrades for each gun can be purchased from the vending machine. Keep in mind that you only need to purchase the largest Bank Size upgrade (level 10) so save up and wait until it becomes available.

About the Challenges:

A "lesser" (shorter) challenge consists of 5 rounds each made up of 5 waves of enemies. A "larger" (longer) challenge consists of 20 rounds each made up of 5 waves of enemies.

The order of waves never changes and is listed below:

Round 1: The Starter Wave
Round 2: The Gun Wave
Round 3: The Horde Wave
Round 4: The Badass Wave
Round 5: The Boss Wave

As the Round #'s increase, so will the number of modifiers (increase enemy shields, increase enemy clip size, etc) affecting each Wave as described below.

Rounds 01-05: 1 Modifier
Rounds 06-10: 2 Modifiers
Rounds 11-15: 3 Modifiers
Rounds 16-20: 4 Modifiers

After each Boss Wave, various guns and other items will spawn where you started so sprint back and beat everyone else there (darn Sirens!). Typically, I have found these drops to be complete crap.

About Dying:

Dying in a coliseum will result in you being sent to the Penalty Box (a virtual "time out" located in the center of the coliseum above where you/items spawn.

If you are playing on your own, you either can return to the Underdome or continue the challenge.

If you are playing in a group, you will remain in the Penalty Box until either the Wave is complete or all members of your team are in the Penalty Box.

Keep in mind you can still actively participate (kill enemies, heal teammates, etc) while in the Penalty Box; So don't just stand there!

Choosing to continue (after either you or your entire team is in the Penalty Box) will result in restarting on the previous round at Wave 1.

For Example: Whether you choose to continue from Wave 1 or 5 of Round 3, you will be restarting from Wave 1 of Round 2.

Small Tournament
Completed the lesser challenge in all 3 coliseums

For being a , this is actually quite time consuming.

In order to unlock, you must complete the lesser challenge at Hell-Burbia (#1), The Ancient Ruins (#2), and The Gully (#3). This can be done on either playthrough. I would suggest doing it on Playthrough 1 for obvious reasons. It is up to you whether or not to also complete it on Playthrough 2. Keep in mind, in addition to the , you will also be receiving a pretty valuable skill point to upgrade your character. (from each playthrough)

An easier alternative is to join a game hosted by someone who has already completed 2 of the 3 challenges. Upon completing the third challenge with them, you will get the and the skill point upgrade.

Note: Refer to each trophy for specific strategies and tips for completing.

Hell-Burbia
Completed the larger challenge in the Hell-Burbia coliseum

After obtaining the Small Tournament trophy, you will have access to the larger tournament at Hell-Burbia (#5). Listed below are some tips to help with this specific coliseum.

A good place to start/defend from Waves 1-4 is on the rooftops of the Blue Buildings. You will be completely isolated from Wave 3 ("Their Comin' to Eat You, yum yum yum") and you will have a decent overview of the arena to utilize ranged weapons then hop down on foot to pickup the stragglers. Then, pickup life/ammo (if needed) and rush back to the rooftops before the next wave spawns.

For Wave 5 (The Boss Wave), as a Solider, I tend to get ready to setup my Scorpio Turret head on for whatever walks through that curtain. As a hunter/ranged attacker, you may want to take a few steps back or setup where you started off for the previous 4 Waves.

The Angelic Ruins
Completed the larger challenge in The Angelic Ruins coliseum

After obtaining the Small Tournament trophy, you will have access to the larger tournament at The Ancient Ruins (#6). Listed below are some tips to help with this specific coliseum.

A good place to start/defend from Waves 1-4 is with your back to the large semicircle wall with the vault symbol on it with staircases on either side of you. While the overall view of the arena isn't optimal, you will receive significant cover here and should have sense for where the enemies spawned. Occasionaly, the enemies will spawn in this exact spot, so be prepared to defend at all times. Once this area is clear I tend to sweep the level counter-clockwise and wipe out any stragglers. Then, pickup life/ammo (if needed) and rush back to the starting spot and get ready for the next Wave.

Similar to Hell-Burbia, for Wave 5 as a Solider, I tend to get ready to setup my Scorpio Turret head on for whatever walks through that curtain and drop a bunch of transfusion grenades. As a hunter/ranged attacker, you may want to put some distance and elevate yourself and chomp away at the Boss using someone else as a distraction.

The Gully
Completed the larger challenge in The Gully coliseum

After obtaining the Small Tournament trophy, you will have access to the larger tournament at The Gully (#4). Listed below are some tips to help with this specific coliseum.

A good place to start/defend from Waves 1-4 is at the top of the hill by the upper teleportation portal. Be prepared as there is a chance that enemies will spawn right next to you. After wiping them out (if applicable) you can move to the ledge and will have a decent overview of the arena to utilize ranged weapons then hop down on foot again to pickup the stragglers. Then, pickup life/ammo (if needed) and rush back to the top of the hill and prepare for the next Wave.

For Wave 5 (The Boss Wave), as a Solider, I prefer to give myself a little cushion and overlook the stage from the lower ledge on the right. I immediately throw out my Scorpio Turret and Transfusion grenades to act as a distraction. After trying to get "up close and personal" for the first few times I realized that there is not much cover down at the lower level and if you are taking serious damage it affords you the chance to backup and heal if necessary.
