[top]Introduction

Cuboid is a nice little puzzle game where you steer a cuboid (of dimensions of 1x1x2 length units) over through a level of step stones. If even half the cuboid is steered into the void, it falls and you have to start that level over.

A few additional functions like pressure plates or wooden step stones that can't bear the full weight (of a vertical cuboid) and a teleport switch that separates the cuboid into two "dice" until you glue them together again (by being adjacent) make things more interesting.

The basic game is partitioned into two modes: Beginner mode with 30 levels and three "boss levels" as well as the Expert mode with another 30 plus three levels.

[top]Tips & Strategies

Figuring out the right solution is half the fun playing this game. There are four basic techniques that help you getting the right way to solve the puzzle:
  1. Reverse engineer! Sometimes it's easier to work out your solution backwards from the drop than figuring out how to get there.
  2. On more difficult levels write down your steps (I used the notation Left, Up, Right, Down, (x) and () when you wait for a teleport). That really helps you to trace your path and keeps frustration down when you have to redo a level from that start.
  3. On levels with switches and teleporters, make yourself a crude map where you note down what each switch does - and whether you think it's going to beneficial to you or whether you want to avoid the switch, if possible.
  4. Divide each larger level up into parts. Often there are sections where you have to hit a certain square in a certain way (for example a corner in a 1-square wide passage). Take this as a milestone and figure out the parts up to there and from there.

Cuboid is about as straight forward as you can get. The only thing you need is a bit of brain power (or spoilers).

[top]Roadmap

My suggestion is that you start the game and play it for the game for the nice puzzle game it is. Once you run into a roadblock, use the spoilers throughout this trophy guide to get through them.

Alternatively if you want to spend as few time as possible with the game, follow this road map:

Using the spoilers in Beginner Master, Ring, Goblet, and Rod complete the first 30 levels. Take care not to fall off the board for the first 15 levels in order to get Equilibrist. Go back to the levels 1-20 and repeat each one until you achieve a lightning speed rating for Speed Master. You should achieve Bronze Master, Silver Master and Gold Master along the way automatically.

Using the spoilers in Expert Master, Sword, Shield, and Crown complete the second 30 levels.

If you haven't received them already, finally do Abyss and Determined.

Ring
Complete 'Ring' Level

After the first 10 levels in Beginner mode you will play the boss level "Ring". As opposed to the regular mode here you only have a limited number of moves. Steering your cuboid over the glowing plus signs will yield you an additional number of moves (10). Once your achieve this, you receive the trophy.

Bronze Master
Collect 20 bronze medals in Expert or 30 in Beginner mode

You need to either score a Bronze medal in all 30 Beginner mode levels or 20 in Expert mode.
Cf. Gold Master.

[top]
Silver Master
Collect 15 silver medals in Expert or 20 in Beginner mode

You need to either score a Silver medal in 20 Beginner mode levels or 15 in Expert mode.
Cf. Gold Master.

[top]
Gold Master
Collect 10 gold medals in Expert or 15 in Beginner mode

You need to either score a Gold Medal in 15 Beginner mode levels or 10 in Expert mode.

Medals are awarded for needing as few moves as possible.

The medals stack - if you have achieved a Gold medal in any level, it also counts as you having achieved the Silver and the Bronze medal and a Silver medal will count as a Bronze medal accordingly.

If you need to know how many you are missing, go from the Main Menu to Start Game and highlight Beginner mode or Expert mode respectively. To your right the number of each medal you have achieved is known (Bronze, Silver, Gold and boss level Gold). Go into any of those modes and highlight the levels to see what your best result on each level has been so far and improve upon it.

Speed Master
Complete 20 levels with lightning speed

You need to finish 20 levels with a lightning speed rating (most of the time this will yield you a Gold medal as well). Lightning speed feels a bit like 10-button combos in arcade fighting games and is one notch better than 'swift', so I'd recommend you do this on the earlier levels of Beginner mode as the number of moves necessary to complete a level rises sharply in Expert mode and the clock is unforgiving.

You can see your best result when you go to select the level to play:
  • Measured
  • Good Pace
  • Normal
  • Swift
  • Lightning

If you have trouble figuring the best solution out for your self use the solutions for levels 1-20 in Beginner Master. They have been optimized for lightning speed.

[top]
Equilibrist
Complete 15 levels in a row without falling

This trophy requires you to finish 15 consecutive levels without pushing your Cuboid overboard. After you finish the first 15 levels or so go back to square one and go through them again carefully until this pops. Or alternatively just be careful with your moves while you play those levels for the first time.

It appears as if these have to be different levels - you cannot simply play the same level 15 times.

Ground Breaker
Began playing Cuboid

Start playing the game. Complete the first level. Ding.

[top]
Abyss
50 falls

This is pretty much the last trophy you need to worry about. You need to log 50 falls with your Cuboid. If you don't happen to achieve that unintentionally by the time you have gotten all those other trophies - go play lemming.

[top]
Determined
Spent 8 hours playing Cuboid

You need to spend 8 hours playing Cuboid. I you haven't achieved this by the time you have achieved Speed Master, start a random level and go eat, watch a video or even better do some real sports (vs. or co-op both is fine). Come back later and you'll likely have the trophy. Just to make sure, finish the level you parked the Cuboid on.

Depending on what path of the road map you followed, this is likely the last trophy you will earn.

[top]
Beginner Master
Complete All Beginner levels

After you finish level 30 of the Beginner mode you receive this trophy.

If you do have troubles finding the solution, use the spoilers below. Empty brackets () are a placeholder for a little delay after a teleport. I inserted a few extra spaces where a button is used more than 3 or 4 times in a row for better readability only.

The first 20 levels have been tested to work for lightning speed.

After you finish level 30 of the Expert mode you receive this trophy.
