[top]Tips & Strategies

1. This is a MMO so you will need to be online in order to play;
2. The sound will constantly go out every now and then so do not worry;
3. When you are doing missions be on the looks out for green (?) (Investigations), blue (?) (Briefings), and yellow (?) (Collections). Collectioning all of the (?)s along a track will earn you not only valuable and easy experience, it will also net you some free stuff that comes in the emails. You can find all of the collectables here: Briefing, Investigations, and Collectables Database Special Thanks to dcuo.mmorpg-life.com for providing this information ;
4. Learn to pull enemies towards you instead of running into the group, you maybe a higher level but 4 lower level enemies can still gang up on you quickly;
5. Hit to bring up the in game chat box. Use this to find groups to help with bosses or missions in general:
/say or /s Say something to anyone in your local area
/group or /party or /g or /p Say something to members of your group
/tell [name] or /t [name] Send a private message to another person (use quotes around names with a space.)
/reply or /r Send a private message to the last person that sent you a private message
/shout Shout a message to everyone in the same region
/invite [name] Invite another person to join a group with you (no quotes needed)
/leave - Leave your current group
/kick [name] - Kick the specified person from your group (no quotes needed. You must be the group leader)
/promote [name] Promote the specified person to be the group leader (no quotes needed. You must be the group leader)
/friend [name] Add a player to your friends list;
6. It is preferred that you are at equal level or higher than the mission's suggested level. Do not worry if you are much higher than an older mission, you will still earn a great deal of XP upon the missions's completion;
7. Farming- you do not need to farm kills in order to level up! Completing missions is the quickest and most efficient way to level up. Typically, a mission chain will have you level 1-2 levels after the final boss fight within a mission chain. Example: For heroes you have to save Raven from her father Trigon. You will begin this mission chain in the tomorrow district by defeating lesser enemies and saving some Paramedics. After which you will begin to fight a few more demons and finally you will enter the Science Police station to fight the Teen Titans in order to release them from Raven's spell. Cyborg will now join you as you descend further into the prison cells to confront Raven's inner self and finally defeat Raven's dark self in a boss fight. At the conclusion of this fight you will release Raven from her father's hold and earn XP. That is an example of a mission chain that will net you a lot of XP and have you fight a iconic hero/villian at the end;
8. While on a mission, before you enter the orange area indicating where the mission take place, look around for a yellow exclamation point on the map or a bright purple cone over a person in the game. These extra missions will help you earn more XP and items while doing the main mission chains. These additional missions are very simple and do not deter you from the main mission chain. Do these along side the primary mission chain objectives;
9. Be aware of enemies that are about to do a "hard attack." Certain enemies will have a skull and red V over their heads indicating that he/she/it is about to attack, either his to block or and left stick to roll away from that enemy;
10. Do those Alerts and Instances, the longer raid missions will net you even more XP and the best items. This is your chance to work with up to 3 other players in a specific area. You will unlock more missions the higher you level up;

[top]Making Your Character

Here is where you make your character and I have included your Character's first mission as a bonus.

Creation:
We begin at the Character Creation screen we will make the following choices:
1. Male or Female- combat skills are not affected by gender;
2. Build of Character- combat skills are not affected by build type;
3. Select Template- This is where you can decide to completely customize or do "Inspired By". Inspired by mean you will follow a pre-built character and Custom means you will Customize. I choose Customize so I can build a Tank for all Mentors to get the gold trophies quickly;
4. Select Morality- Hero or Villain which will you be? The selection will lead to who you are mentored by: Heroes- Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, or Villains- Joker, Lex Luthor, Circe. This selection will decide your mission arcs and where you start in the world;
5. Select Personality- combat skills are not affected by this choice on how you stand in the world;
6. Select Mentor- This is where you select which primary Hero/Villain will guide you through the game. Combat is not affected but which missions you are given and where you start is;
7. Select Power- Select which power you will be using:
Fire-Tank
Gadgets-Controller
Ice-Tank
Mental-Controller
Nature-Healer
Sorcery -Healer
8. Select Movement- movement mode affects your speed, style, and how you maneuver in combat: select either Flight, Acrobatics, or Super-Speed;
9. Select Weapons- Figure which weapon you will want to use (note when your Character reaches Level 10 you may use skill points on a 2nd weapon style):
1. Bow- slow, precise long-range attacks
2. Brawling- slow, brutal style with maximum damage
3. Dual Pistol- fast, ranged style
4. Dual Wield- a fast, melee style
5. Hand Blast- fast melee and ranged style power through your bare hands
6. Martial Arts- a fluid, medium-speed melee style focusing on use of combos
7. One-Handed- A fast melee style using a combat weapon in one hand
8. Rifle- medium speed long range weapon
9. Staff- fast, dexterous style utilizing a long range melee weapon
10. Two-Handed- a slow, powerful style using a massive melee weapon

10. Summary- Now look over your choices and make sure this is the layout you want to use;
11. Name- Now create a unique name for your Character and now let us begin.

Levels 1-3:
You begin your journey on Brainiac's ship. Follow the objectives and on screen prompts to escape. The first boss will be the Overseer. Defeat this simple boss and escape in the upper shaft to earn Level 2. Continue you make your way through the ship and make sure to equip all the stuff you find, especially the Soder Cola. Hit + to heal yourself in a pinch. Once you clear out the trash collection area you will unlock Level 3 and your first skill point. Use it on your weapon and learn a new attack and take some time to learn the Weapon Skill tree. Finally proceed forward to take on the ship's primary boss the Ship Guardian. Take out the 4 Power Couplings and then the Ship Guardian. Since I selected to be a Villain mentored by Circe, Lex Luthor arrived and helped my character escape. If you are a hero then Superman will save you Take the teleporter out.

[top]Roadmap

Since there are 6 playthroughs to be done Im going to outline the characters that I used so you can see how quickly it is to level up. I will also detail how you should power up your character and what kind of armor and weapons are preferred. So far the quickest way to get to level 30 is using the Fire or Ice Powers and using Two-Handed weapons. It does not matter what mentor you are to get the level 30 trophies. But in order to get the Level 10 role trophies (Tank/Controller/Healer) you have to use certain Powers. Tanks are Fire/Ice, Controllers are Gadget/Mental, and Healers are Nature/Sorcery.

Playthrough #1
Name: Bodigard
Role: Damage
Power: Ice
Mentor: Superman (Hero)
World Start: Metropolis
Weapon: Two-Handed
Time to Level 30: 18 hours

For your first playthrough learn the basic ropes of the game. As you will soon see the reason why I chose the Ice power first is because the first power you learn has you pull enemies toward you so you can fight small groups at a time instead of a full group. Keep in investing your SKILL Points into learning more combos, prefereably (hold) (hold) (hold) (hold). This attack on the last hold will lead to the Mega Smash and will insta kill most enemies if not deplete more than half of their health. As a Tank/Damage role, you are the big hitter, but becareful not to over-extend yourself, make sure you bring plenty of Soda Cola. Your equipment needs to focus on Health/Defense/Toughness. This playthrough focus on completing the Exploration Feats and learning the ropes of the game so subsequent playthroughs will be a breeze.

Playthrough #2
Name: Frat Star
Role: Controller
Power: Mental
Mentor: Batman (Hero)
World Start: Gotham
Weapon: Rifle or Dual Pistols
Time to Level 30: 16 hours

The controller is a much weaker character and it's focus is distance shots using combos. The Mental power creates energy blasts and also the focus is on constant movement. It's attacks are single enemy base at a distance. I went with the Rifle at first but it was too slow and also I found myself dying alot because enemies were easily able to surround my character. The Dual Pistols allow a little bit more movement and also the attacks are very powerful. As a controller your focus is to stay at a distance and blast away at the enemies while using your powers liberally. The focus for the controller should be, as far as stats, Precision/Power/Might.

Playthrough #3
Name: Doc Brown
Role: Healer
Power: Sorcery
Mentor: Wonder Woman (Hero)
World Start: Metropolis, Chinatown
Weapon: Hand Blaster
Time to Level 30: 20 hours

Personally I hated the healer because the healer has to level up quite a bit in order to be affective. The Hand Blaster is another distance attack BUT offers some devastating combos. Also, if the enemies surround you the melee ( attacks) will give you time to escape. Since you will likely be alone most of the time the Sorcery power offers some great help especially when you summon some great help. The area of effects spells help keep enemies at bay and the spell buffs keeps you and other teammates on the offensive. I also took the time to find all of the collectables and investigations becuase I did not like the Healer Role alot. I respecialized the character and got the Fury summon and most of the spells. It helped a lot but the healing in groups was zil to none.

Playthrough #4
Name: Banny
Role: Damage
Power: Fire
Mentor: Joker (Villian)
World Start: Gotham
Weapon: Two-Handed
Preferred Spells:
Preferred Skills:
Time to Level 30: 13

If you have been following my roadmap up to this point you know how to handle the tank role real well. You will notice by now that some of the missions in the world overlap a bit. There will be less players to help you in the world (for some reason a lot of players do not want to be villians), but villian players are much more powerful and can help you if you shout for it. Fire spells are more devastating and the focus is area of effect spells or high damage per second attacks.

Playthrough #5
Name: Dean Martin
Role: Damage
Power: Ice
Mentor: Lex Luthor (Villian)
World Start: Metropolis, near Metropolis University
Weapon: Two-Handed
Preferred Spells:
Preferred Skills:
Time to Level 30: 15 hours

Lex Luthor's missions were some of the tougher ones to start out especially for up close melee. The spacing of the enemies in those starting missions made things difficult but using the ice powers did help. Overall, I spent more time replaying Instances and some PvP and it helped raise my levels quickly and earning some great gear.

Playthrough #6
Name: General Lee
Role: Damage
Power: Fire
Mentor: Circe (Villain)
World Start: Metropolis
Weapons: Staff
Time to Level 30: 12

I used the staff this time around to try different combos and to be honest the Staff was a great weapon when you fully upgrade it. The combos are pretty sweet and also the innate upgrades are nice. Circe's missions were very easy and also being spec'd to melee against monstly spells casters made the game so much easier.

[top]Trophies

[top]
Winner Takes All
Acquire all hero and villain trophies in the classic game

Once you earn all trophies in the MMO you will earn this platinum.

[top]
Tanks Very Much
Achieve level 10 and gain the Tank Role

From the character create screen you must make sure that you select the ICE or FIRE power. These powers are the only ones that make up the Tank role. The focus of the tank is to have enemies surround you while other players keep you alive. Well since most of the time you will be playing solo your focus is to beef your defense and health while dishing out serious damage. Using Two-Handed or Dual Weapons is preferred due to the high damage per second and combos. When you earn Skill points spend them early on learning combos and then use at least 6 of them on boosting Attack Critical Damage and other innate abilities.

You will begin your journey in Brainiac's ship and follow the objections and learn how to attack and also harness your powers. Once you earn 1 Skill Point and 1 Power Point during the course of the mission take some time to look at all of the powers and skills and map out how you want to proceed. There is no right or wrong way. By the time you finish Brainiac's mission you will be level 3 and will begin your mentor's missions. It will take you about 1-3 hours to reach level 10.

[top]
Mission Control
Achieve level 10 and gain the Controller Role

From the Character selection screen select either the Gadget or Mental powers to be specialized in the Controller Role. The Gadget breaks down into Traps and Tricks. Trap powers offer multi-targeting moves, while Trick powers contains pets and defensive based powers. The Mental user has Illusion and Telepathy powers. Illusion is for area of effect based powers and hitting large grounds in a small to medium cone. Telepathy is aimed at single enemies at a distance and offers status buffs for the player and negative ones for the enemies.

It will take you about 2-4 hours to reach level 10.

[top]
Knight for Justice
Achieve level 30 as a hero mentored by Batman

Heroes that choose to be mentored by Batman begin in Gotham city and your first mission chain will lead to a fight against the Scarecrow. Batman is the mentor for players who chose to be a controller but you do not need to be a controller to be mentored by Batman.

[top]
Warrior of Truth
Achieve level 30 as a hero mentored by Wonder Woman

Heroes that choose to be mentored by Wonder Woman begin their journey in Metropolis, specifically Chinatown. Her missions are kinda one sided when it comes to heroes who chose the Healer role. I fully recommend finding a partner to help out with most of the missions. The first boss is against Felix Faust and he can be a pain during that first fight. If you decide to be a Healer mentored by Wonder Woman I highly recommend getting a partner or spec your powers in Nature.

[top]
Champion of Earth
Achieve level 30 as a hero mentored by Superman

Heroes that choose to be mentored by Superman begin their journey in the Downtown region of Metropolis. Superman's missions are very simple as you fight the super-smart gorilla, Grogg. The starting missions are fairly straight-forward and can be completed easily. Being mentored by Superman is the easiest of the 6 mentors to start a character and I highly recommend doing so as a first playthrough.

[top]
Acrobatic Ace
Achieve level 30 as an acrobat

In the character creation portion of the game you select 3 different methods of moving in the world. The acrobot can climb walls quickly, make quick dashes around an enclosed area and can glide. When your character reaches Level 9 use 1 Skill point to purchase the glide power from the Movement power selection screen under Skills. Once you build up some speed after hitting , click and hold again to begin gliding.

[top]
Fearless Flier
Achieve level 30 as a flyer

In the character creation portion of the game you select 3 different methods of moving in the world. The flyer does exactly as it sounds fly. But if you are engaged in combat then your ability to fly away will be hindered. When your character reached Level 9 use 1 Skill point to purchase the upgraded flyer power. Click once to begin flying and then click again to initiate super speed. The flyer is the best of th 3 modes of movement in the game.

[top]
Speedster Supreme
Achieve level 30 as a speedster

In the character creation portion of the game you chose 1 of 3 different methods to travel around the DC Universe. The speedster can run quickly along the ground, wall, and ceiling and can have attacks similar in that fashion if you so choose. When your character reaches Level 9 use 1 Skill point to purchase the upgraded speedster power. Click once to begin running like Jesse Owens, and then click to initiate super speed.

[top]
The Healing Touch
Achieve level 10 and gain the Healer Role

From the character creation screen chose between Sorcery or Nature in order to be classified as a Healer. The Sorcery power branch offers two sets: Destiny and Summoning. Destiny offers the better healing spells and single target attacks. Summoning powers offers helpers and with area of effect attacks. The Nature power branch contains large area of effects attacks and some healing, while Shapeshifing offerse little to no help.
It will take you about 2-3 hours to reach level 10.

[top]
The Queen's Favorite
Achieve level 30 as a villain mentored by Circe

Being mentored by Circe starts you out in the Chinatown district of Metropolis. You begin your journey fighting the Sentinels of Doctor Fate and that is who your first fight is against. Do not worry he is a pushover.

[top]
Criminal Mastermind
Achieve level 30 as a villain mentored by Lex Luthor

Selecting Lex Luthor as your mentor puts you in Metropolis near Gotham University. You are going to be helping Parasite absorb MetaHumans and fighting PowerGirl. Now this fight is very difficult but if you use the orange barrel (healing) you can harm her while you are healing. Getting to Level 30 under Lex is failry quick.

[top]
The Joker in the Deck
Achieve level 30 as a villain mentored by the Joker

If you are crazy enough to be mentored by the Joker then you will begin in Gotham under the Clown Prince of Darkness. His first assignment for you is to take on the Carmine family. Joker's missions are pretty simple and getting to level 30 is in a joke.

[top]
Platinum Pace
Earn a platinum medal in any race

The race feature of DC Universe Online is a benefitial feature as it gives additional XP for earning any of the medals, but you can only earn the next highest medal. The most being the Platinum time, so if you earn a gold you will earn x amount of xp and can only earn more if you earn the platinum medal in that race. The easiest one I found was as a flyer being mentored by Superman. As soon as you leave the police station use the right purple race flag to enter and follow the circles. You can do this for any race and the ones closest to the police station appear to be the easiest.
