[top]Roadmap

There are three steps to fully acquiring everything in Dynasty Warriors 8. Begin by either playing the Story Mode or Ambition Mode. These are the two game modes that you will be playing through on your path to conquer this Platinum trophy.

Step One - Story Mode
Complete every level and story playthrough of Story Mode, including the Other stories and the 4 Tutorials. Complete both historical and hypothetical storylines for each of the available kingdoms. Try completing these on the harder difficulties to acquire some of the officers final weapons and to begin on Chaos Difficulty if you can manage.

Step Two - Ambition Mode
You will work on acquire all animals, and completing the overall mode of Ambition Mode to achieve trophies associated with this mode. Also, work on finishing up the voice lines in the Gallery and unlocking any remaining trophies that can be acquired easily here.

Step Three - Clean up - All Modes (Story, Free, Ambition, etc)
During this step, you will switch back and forth, using the tricks in Ambition mode to fully level any characters to level 50 that you have remaining, finishing the Tongquetai for the companions you will need to unlock, customizing weapons for any Chaos levels to finish, etc. This is just a clean up step to finish off your remaining trophies. Good luck and congratz on that platinum when you finally acquire it.

True Warrior of the 3 Kingdoms
Obtain all of the trophies in the game.

To acquire this platinum trophy, you need to obtain all other trophies in Dynasty Warriors 8. Good luck and congratulations!

[top]

Master of Chaos
Complete all of the stages on the "Chaos" difficulty level.

For this trophy, you will need to complete every stage in the game either in Story Mode or Free mode on the Chaos Difficulty setting. This is the hardest setting and will require leveled up characters and many of your skill bonuses higher level.

Enemies will take greatly less damage so stick to using your weapons that have a higher affinity to have a slight advantage. Enemies will also hit much harder so make sure you are blocking and evading as you need to and keep an eye on your health bar. Use your strongest weapons possible and a character that you are very good at and should have near a max level. Also, try to acquire your favorite characters' fifth weapons in order for maximum power.

[top]

Unwavering Ambition
Fight 50 straight battles in Ambition Mode.

Ambition Mode

This trophy will be one of your final and more difficult trophies to acquire during Ambition Mode. As you complete battles, you will be prompted to continue to the next fight, save, or return to camp. For this trophy, you will need to complete 50 Straight Battles, without returning to camp.

I suggest using a leveled up character and having placed the difficulty on Beginner or another that you feel that you are adequate to complete this challenge with. I also recommend using four star weapons with many of your skills raised as close to max to boost your health, defense, attack, or whatever you need for your character.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You are capable of saving and returning later to finish this. Simply select Save Game after finishing a battle. And when you continue Ambition Mode, you can select to continue the next battle or Return to Camp.

Weapon Collector
Obtain all of the weapons in the game.

For this trophy, you will need to acquire every weapon in the game. Every officer has a favorite weapon, but any officer is capable of using any of the weapons you have unlocked. You are also able to equip up to two different weapons on any officer.

There are 7 weapons for each weapon Class to acquire in the game, represented by the number of stars to the left of the weapon name when you are selecting one. Each set of weapons are separated into a type and you need to unlock each of the weapons of each type; sword, spear, claws, rake, halberd, etc.

You will need to unlock each of the regular 4 weapons of each, also noting there are 3 additional special weapons to acquire in each set. Then there is one fifth weapon for every weapon class that requires special requirements.
Fifth Weapons Special Requirements
  • MUST play on Hard or Chaos Difficulty

  • You Must also play as the EX weapon user of the weapon you are unlocking for a PARTICULAR stage

  • There are special requirements random to each weapon you must complete during the stage required using the officer required.

Tip and Assistance to each weapon, including a thread to help acquire the weapons and the requirements.

Hello!

As you may know, one of the trophies requires you to collect all weapons in the game, including Level 5 weapons, which have a few requirements:

1) You must play as the EX user of the 5th level weapon in order to unlock that weapon, for example, playing as Zhang Liao to unlock the 5th level Twin Halberds in the Battle of He fei stage (Wei).
2) The difficulty must be set as Hard or higher.
3) Only stages in Story Mode and Free Mode are to be used.

Please refer to this thread by Bng422 (translated from a Japanese wiki) for the full list of Level 5 weapons and their locations:
Dynasty Warriors 8 5th Weapons Guide

***

Now, let's get to the meat of the details on how to tackle at least Hard/Chaos with all the officers, other than your main which you will no doubt have focused on only for his/her most powerful weapons and elements.

1) First, raise the Blacksmith level in Ambition Mode to the max of Level 50; this ensures that you are able to buy Level 4 weapons at least (farm material stages on Beginner difficulty to get as much materials as possible).
2) Like the Thunder Flute trick from DW7: Xtreme Legends and earlier, you are able to emulate this flute trick here too!
3) Now, simply check the Flute weapons from the Blacksmith UNTIL you see an empty Level 4 flute (any affinity will do) OR a Level 4 flute with 1-3 of the elements that are required to make it overpowered (like the above-mentioned Thunder Flute trick) but none of any other undesired elements. Reset by quitting from Ambition Mode and then checking the Blacksmith again.
4) The six elements that you will need for the flute are: Slash, Thunder, Cyclone, Awe, Recovery/Jubilation (Jubilation is better in my opinion), Induction.
5) Once you have the base flute ready (empty or filled with a few of those desired elements above), simply Temper it at the blacksmith with other weapons with 1 or 2 of the other desired elements. Once you have filled up the flute with all 6 of the desired elements, simply Temper it again with more weapons to strengthen those elements to Level 10. Best not to sell junk weapons with only 1 element (but which is desired); makes it much easier to Temper desired elements only onto the flute). Feel free to ask me more questions later about Tempering, if you wish.
6) Now that you have one overpowered flute ready (with one affinity), feel free to repeat the process to get another flute of a DIFFERENT affinity.
7) Use both flutes with any officer that you need the Level 5 weapon for, and ride on a horse with at least the horse skill "Sprint - Endurance" (I think that was the name, forgot) that prevents you from being knocked off the horse by attacks. And set the difficulty to Hard or above.
8) Hold down the L1 button to strafe with the horse, and spam the Triangle button to shoot off heavy attacks with the flute, switching between both affinities as required based on enemy officers' affinities; you will be able to stun and deal insane damage to them, keeping them in the air, making it quite easy to get those Level 5 weapons.
EDIT:
9)
The 4 skills that I recommend you use for this set-up are: Equestrian, Havoc, Attack Boost, Mighty Roar.

I have the following elements on both weapons maxed out at 10; Cyclone, Explosive, Flash, Jubilation, Slash, and Velocity. I tested them both out on a couple of Chaos stages and honestly, these weapons are very overpowered. I almost always took out an officer within 5 hits. It's like playing the Easy difficulty, only that the enemies hit a lot harder.

Also another thing to try is the lottery of special weapons at the blacksmith. Sometimes you can get a decent base weapon with one of the elements you need. Finding blank 4 circle weapons is a lot harder than reloading over and over with the special weapons til you get something that works.

***

Now for another set of elements for your main character (like me, if you do not want to tackle Chaos difficulty with such a cheap flute trick, but rather get into the meat of things and just have fun):

The elements required are:
Slash, Thunder, Cyclone, Velocity (or switch that out if you are using a fast character, for perhaps Awe), Recovery/Jubilation (Jubilation is recommended), Explosive
EDIT: The 4 skills that I recommend you use for this set-up are: Victory Cry/Fortune Hunter, Havoc, Attack Boost, Mighty Roar.

Simply make two of your main character's Level 4 weapons with those elements as above, but with different affinities. Slash away and have fun!

For your info, I use Zhang Liao as my favorite main character, as I always have for all the DW games up to date. =D His R1 attack is simply insane, allowing you to melt down Chaos generals' HP from far range, and well, his EX attack makes him a fast killing machine. And more importantly, his Square + Square + Triangle combo always breaks through officers' guard and stuns them all the time. But hey, just play whoever suits you best. *wink*

[top]

Death from Above
Defeat an enemy after juggling them in the air for at least 10 seconds.

For this trophy, you will need to knock an enemy into the air, and continually attack them keeping them off the ground for 10 seconds and then killing them. They can not hit the ground at all and you must kill them after juggling them or it will reset and you will need to try again.

This can be easiestly done on Normal or greater difficulties, possibly using weaker weapons so that you don't do too much damage too quickly. Make use of your Rage Mode if you need to, but equip skills that boost your speed and reach so that you can keep the enemy going easier. Officers will sometimes leap out of the attack so be aware of this. Try to isolate the target so that you don't accidentally get hit by other enemies around you and cause you to mess up.

[top]

True Rage
Use a True Rage Attack.

Rage attacks are activated when the bar to the left of your character image is completely full and you press to start your Rage attack. Now while your rage is depleting, activate your Musou attack which also refills into a single bar when Rage is activated. Continue holding until your Musou is depleted and you should acquire your trophy. That is the True Rage Attack.

[top]

In an Instant
Defeat 3 enemy officers with a Storm Rush in a single battle.

For this trophy, you will need to defeat three enemy officers during a single battle using the Storm Rush technique. This is done automatically when your weapon is superior affinity to the enemy officers and your character will begin attacking furiously and very quickly, locking the enemy into a deadly combo. This will occur most often as you knock the enemy off their feet and you will be able to see the blue diamond above their head, showing your weapon affinity is superior.

[top]

Comeback Kid
Defeat 3 enemy officers with a Switch Counter in a single battle.

For this trophy, you will need to defeat 3 officers during a single battle using switch counters. This occurs when you counter an enemy's attack by switching weapons right as they would strike, most often when they are using a special attack and they begin glowing faintly before their attack hits you.

You will also notice when you have performed the switch counter correctly by acquiring the skill, " ".

[top]

King of the Combos
Achieve a 1,000 hit combo.

For this trophy, you need to achieve a 1,000 hit combo.

Start with a character that is quick and that you find easy to combo with using their Rage and Musou attacks. Next you will want to find a weapon that is also quick and you can easily chain attacks together with and possibly hit many enemies at once with a wide range. Find a enormous number of enemies, particular near a gate, or where the enemy has all gathered a number of their forces together and start attacking.

Be sure you have your musou and your Rage full. You Will want to use your musou first as it will cause a slight delay that may cause your combo to go away. Afterwards, immediately trigger your Rage and start swinging and chaining all your hits together.

You can mix in charge attacks if they won't delay the combo and cause it to reset. Just test a few officers with their special moves and test out your favorite weapons. Example. I used Gan Ning and his flail mixed with a Podao Sword.

[top]

One Warrior vs. a Thousand
Defeat 1,000 enemies in a single battle.

For this trophy, simply defeat over 1,000 enemies during a single battle. You will most likely achieve this on the first level you play of the game if you try and kill all of the soldiers you come across. It is very possible to achieve this during many of the stages without much effort. If you have difficulties, turn the difficulty down and try again.

[top]

Graduation Day
Complete the tutorials for all of the kingdoms.

Story Mode

In Story Mode, there are four tutorials to complete; One for Wu, Shu, Wei, and Jin. Each is nearly identical, with the exception of the characters and the mentor in the tutorial itself.

These stages will merely test you with the controls and place you in a small battle to let you understand how Dynasty Warriors 8 plays. In the end you will need to follow the prompts that the mentor gives you and then defeat the final boss, a Bandit Leader and his troops at the end of the stage.

[top]

Mounted Terror
Defeat 1,000 enemies while mounted on a riding-type animal.

This trophy can be completed in any mode of the game.

Simply mount a horse or other mount and begin defeating enemies until you acquire the trophy.

Ambition Mode

During Ambition Mode, you will be able to acquire and utilize companion pets to assist you in the battles. Equip an animal at the Main Camp from an assortment of Falcons, Tigers, and Wolves each of a various power and speed. During your playthrough of Ambition Mode, you will need to try and allow your pet to finish off 100 enemies accumulated over the course of the game. This does not have to be done in a single battle. Once your pets have killed a total of 100 enemies or more, you will achieve this trophy.

[top]

Vocal Enthusiast
Listen to all of the voice lines within the Gallery.

This will be one of the harder and more time consuming trophies to unlock and will require several steps through playing across Story Mode and Ambition Mode.

Firstly, level every character to level 30 to unlock all General Voice Lines in the game. You can use the Academy in Ambition mode to quickly level characters up using gold.

Secondly, For each of the Ambition Lines, you will need to use every character in Ambition Mode as a bodyguard under a Female and a Male officer. This should give each of the lines required.

Like a Shadow
Finish any stage of the game, except for the tutorial, without taking any damage.

During the game, you can unlock this trophy by playing any stage and completing it without taking a single hit or arrow.

I found it easiest to play Ambition mode on Beginner difficulty and play a Skirmish or Fame level and head straight for the enemy commander and quickly killing him with your rage or musou attack if you have these filled. Defeat some lesser enemies to fill them if you have trouble. But with a leveled character, and a good weapon, it shouldn't take more than a few hits to kill anyone on these stages on the suggested difficulty.
