[top]Tips & Strategies

First off, when ever you play this game, your goal is to do your best. You want to ace each song with 5 stars (if possible). This will keep the amount of replays you need do to a limited amount.

I recommend you try the songs on one controller at first. This is because if you can get a good combo (lots of ok or great moves in a row) you will get the needed multiplier to 5 star most of the songs.

If your having problems getting 5 stars, then I suggest using 2 motion controllers, one for each hand. The reason is that your score will be doubled, and even if one hand isn't picked up by the eye, you have a back up (a chance that the other was caught). The combo will end if any controller misses a move, but the combo multiplier will show up faster if both controllers are getting hits.

So if your having trouble when using one controller, try two. If your using two controllers, try one. Certain songs will benefit if you switch to the right amount of controllers.

When being ready for the next move, look for a blue orb in the picture. That means that they want the motion controller held in that position to get good points. Try to hold it in that spot for a bit, and see if that gives you the good scores you need.

I found that playing in the dark works pretty well. Too much light will ruin the eye from reading your moves. This game doesn't watch your body movements, so its not needed to score well. I also think my eye was pointing to the side (not directly at me). This made some moves get great over and over, and other times it didn't read any moves. Its a gamble, so try and see what works for you.

Make sure to keep the distance between you and the ps3 eye to 6 feet. Good lighting (not too bright or dark) will also help the game register your moves for better grades.

Last tip is to practice. Many moves are reused through out all the songs, and once you know what move is coming next (or how to perform that move for a high score), it will just make it that much more easier for you.

[top]Roadmap

Step 1: Warm up, set up, and Tutorial
First off, like any physical activity, you need to stretch. You don't want to pull anything, and a few minutes of awkward stretching may come in handy.

Next, you want to make sure your Ps3 motion controllers are fully charged, calibrated, room is cleared for movement, and if your like me (and embarrassed to be seen dancing or even heard) have a headset so you don't need the TV speakers on and close the door.

Lighting is another thing not many people think of (movements from both controllers and body are needed to score high. Have sufficient light (not directly into the Ps3 eye) and you will hopefully get some good marks.

Now lets go to Tutorial: This is really simple. Mostly a slide show of useful pictures accompanied with words below to explain how to play the game. You can either read it, or press the large button on your motion controller to skip past all these. Trophy will pop after 10 pages of the “tutorial”.

Step 2: Star mode (casual difficulty)
Go to play, and choose “become a star”. This is sort of a story mode (you do dancing like regular, but before and after the critic critique, you will get dialog from the critic or your “manager”, whom give you a little story as you move up a tier).

I recommend you start on “casual” difficulty. You will have to do a second playthrough anyway, so might as well get most of the trophies out of the way.

There are 4 regular songs (first row is easy, and gets harder the more rows you go down) and 1 critic song, unlocked after you obtain a certain amount of stars. The reason your doing easy first is to get the trophies as fast as you can, as well as get used to the dances.

Do your best on each song, but dont worry if you come out of it with just 3 stars (your goal right now is to hit each Critic song, 5 of them have a trophy related to just completing it). If you can, get the 120 stars in this playthrough. It will be easy as you will ace most of the songs you play anyway.

On my first time, I 5 star’d : Annie get your gun, Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, Rocky Horror picture show, Rent, one night only, hairspray, and Ease on down the road.
That said, I skipped 4 songs (and could have 5 star’ed another 5).
During this playthrough, have a 2nd controller out and do a 2 player song (can be done on any song).

At this point, you should have many of the trophies.

Step 3: Star mode (pro difficulty)
Redo it all in Pro difficulty. Do your best, and hopefully you get the same (or more) stars. I believe the computer still gives you slack on moves, and since you did the song already, you should know what to expect. Your goal this time is to get to the 5th tier critic song. Easier said than done, but possible.

The requirements for the Critic Challenge will be steeper, although it is still doable. Also, the passing grade for the Critic Critiques are now 5 stars. This wont be a problem, as i found some of the Critic Challenges easier than normal songs. Keep progressing and then once you beat the Level 5 Critic Challenge, the trophy will pop.

In this playthrough, i got 120 stars (only songs i got 4 stars in is Aquarius, Roxie, Pinball Wizard, Dream Girls, and Cabaret)

If you look at the location of these songs, you will see that the first 4 are located in the 1 or 2 dot difficulty. I remind you that i did all the rest in Professional difficulty, so that proves its doable. If you did the 120 stars in Casual difficulty, I am sure you would have gotten them faster than me

If your still having trouble, go check out my tips for possible things you can do to lean the game in your favor.

Step 4: Party play mode
Do your “party play mode” (option under star mode in play). This one is simple. Just do 20 different songs (20 songs are already unlocked in this mode, plus 5 more songs unlocked from star mode). Also note that i think you can completely fail the song, and still get the trophy “its party time”. This was set last because its easy to do when everything is unlocked.

Your goal for this playthrough is to get 5 stars on each song. After you get 120 stars (this includes both causal and pro difficulty) you will have your trophy.

Step 5:Clean up
If you need to go back into star mode for stars, you can do that here. Thats probably the only thing left. (since you played star mode, just go back into that and try to redo some of the low star'd songs you didn't get 5 stars in.)

On Your Way!
Complete a song in any mode.

One of the easiest trophies to obtain. Play any song, any mode, and at completion (regardless of stars) this will pop

I recommend that from the first song to the last one, you try your best. Many of the moves are easy to do, many moves are repeated throughout the many different songs, and it will just save you from replaying songs if you do it all correctly the first time.

Set for Success
Complete the Tutorial.

Lets go to Tutorial: This is really simple. Mostly a slide show of useful pictures accompanied with words below to explain how to play the game. You can either read it, or press the large button on your motion controller to skip past all these. Trophy will pop after 10 pages of the “tutorial”.

Duet
Play any song to completion in multiplayer mode.

This trophy is the second easiest trophy, "On Your Way!" being the first easiest.

This one requires that you play a song with another "player" (but you can do this by yourself). Using your two motion controllers (setting one per "player"), set one to the side and dance with the other one. After the song completes, regardless of points, this trophy should pop.

[top]
It's Party Time!
Complete 20 songs in Party Play mode.

From the main menu, go to the first option on the left. Two options will show up.

The first one is Star mode, which makes you unlock the critic dance by earning stars in the 4 previous dances.

The second option is Party Play, a mode that lets you dance to any song (they are all unlocked). In this mode, you need to just play 20 different songs. You dont even need to try for this trophy. Play the songs, and repeat 19 more times. The score wont matter, as any stars you get wont count towards the trophy "Star Spangled"

Broadway Phenomenon
Complete the Tier 5 Critic's Challenge on Pro difficulty.

No matter which difficulty you start your "star mode" in, you will need to do a second playthrough for the opposite difficulty.

This trophy will only pop after you played through enough songs to unlock the Stage 5 critic song (105 for professional). I found out that the critic songs are average songs, nothing special (in some cases, these songs are easier). Do note that because of the difficulty, some moves will be graded harshly, and that you need to ace the Critic Challenges to move up a tier (5 stars out of 5).

If your having problems getting 5 stars (you want to aim for the highest star ranking you can, in order to cut down on how many replays you have to do) then i suggest you look at the tips section, to find some possible things you can try to better your chances of a good score.

[top]
Star Spangled
Collect 120 stars in Become A Star mode.

This trophy can be earned on any difficulty. There is a casual difficulty, and a professional difficulty. I recommend you go for this on your casual difficultly playthrough (its easier)

To obtain this trophy, you need to have 120 stars in one save file of star mode. Obtaining half the stars in professional and the other in casual wont work. Also obtaining half in one game of professional, and the other half in a different game wont work (if you start a new star mode, you lose the stars, although they are recorded in party play)

There are a total of 25 songs (20 leading up to the critics challenges, and 5 critic challenge songs, ranging from 1 star difficulty to 5 dots. To be honest, the songs are all one difficulty (easy), even the critic challenges. Do your best and a majority of these you will get 5 stars (4 at the least)

Which ever difficult you play your "star mode" in, just play through each song once, doing your best. After you played each song, go back to the top and try to replay any song you got less than 5 stars on. Like i said earlier, many moves are repeated, so now you should have the right timing to get the most points.

If your still not getting enough points, i recommend you look at the tip section for ideas in what you can change to put the odds in your favor.

All you need is 120 stars (so you can have 5 songs with 4 stars, and the rest ace with all 5 stars) and this trophy will pop. Each person has their favorites and types of songs your better at. Since you played all songs once already, you will know which ones you want to ace, and which ones you want to just skip and leave at 4 stars. Again i got this trophy in professional, and aced all except Aquarius, Roxie, Pinball wizard, Dream Girls, and Cabaret.
