[top]Tips & Strategies

Know your opponents
- This is one of the basics of DMC. Knowing your opponents will give you an idea on what are the best equipment and hearts to use. You will also be able to dodge your opponents attacks and you can also perform your counterattack after dodging.

Collect everything
- You need to collect all swords, guns, arsenals, blue orbs and blue orb fragments that you can find on your first playthrough for each character so that you can just concentrate on rushing through the higher difficulties.

Weapon upgrades
- You are only going to need one main sword for Dante and Lucia. Recommended ones are Vendetta and Zambak. For Dante's guns, most useful ones during Story mode are his Handguns and Missile Launcher. For Bloody Palace, it is the Shotgun and Missile Launcher. For Lucia's arsenals, Throwing Knives and Cranky Bomb.

Dante's Ultimate Devil Trigger
- You can only trigger this DT when Dante's health is on the red zone. It is a more powerful DT than Dante's regular DT.

Special Attacks
- When Dante is on his Ultimate DT mode, Lucia is on her DT mode and Trish is on her DT mode. Press and simultaneously to execute a special attack.

Free and Unlimited supply of Gold Orb
- You can do this once you have unlocked Mission Select. If you have used up your Gold Orb. DO NOT buy a new one from the statue of time. Save first then go to Mission Select and select Mission 1. Once you have obtained the orb, save then continue from where you stop. You can do this every time you have used up your Gold Orb.

[top]Roadmap

First Playthrough
Choose between Dante and Lucia for your first Normal mode run. Dante has 18 missions and Lucia has 13 missions. Try to learn combining different moves so that you'll have a regular combo that you can use in order to get a Show Time! rank combo. You should be able to get Highest Honor if you are playing Dante or The Sky's the Limit if you are playing Lucia on their very first mission. Try to get upgrade related trophies out of the way quick. Collect all weapons and devil hearts. Collect all blue orb fragments that are scattered around so that all you need to do on your Hard mode run is to collect enough red orbs to purchase all Blue Orb and Purple Orb upgrades.

Second Playthrough
Your second playthrough is still on Normal mode but this time it is on the other character. If you have played as Dante for your first run then you need to beat the game for the second time as Lucia and vice versa. The steps for this run is the same as your First Playthrough. Collect everything that you need to prepare yourself for the harder difficulties.

Third Playthrough
Now that you have beaten the game with both characters on Normal mode. You now have unlocked Hard mode. Beat your first Hard mode run with Dante for you to unlock Trish. Buy the remaining Blue Orb or Purple Orb upgrades that you weren't able to buy on your first run.

Fourth Playthrough
Since you can now play as Trish. You can easily beat Lucia's Hard mode run because Trish has maxed out weapons with her but Trish will still carry out the HP bar and DT bar that Lucia had so you still need to get the other upgrades.

Fifth Playthrough
It's up to you to choose between Dante, Lucia or Trish for your Must Die run. Just be careful when fighting against bosses because they are quicker and they hit harder this time around and they have higher HP and some bosses can enter into a Devil Trigger state. If you want to clear Must Die mode quick, play on Lucia's scenario because it only has 13 missions to complete and the last boss is much easier to beat.

Bloody Palace
The last three trophies that you are going to need are from the Bloody Palace. Just reach 1000+, 5000+ and 9000+ floors and you should get the last three trophies and finally the

[top]
Over 9000!
Pass 9000 floors in Bloody Palace Mode

Bloody Palace is going to be unlocked after beating both Dante and Lucia's scenario for the first time. You're going to need to pass over 9000 floors to get this trophy.

For the trophies, it is recommended that you take the Green portal because it will let you ascend 100 floors. The other portals will let you ascend by 1 or by 10 levels so your best choice is to take the green portal. You will only encounter boss battles on levels that end with 0 (10, 1000, 5000, 9000) but taking this path is not recommended because boss battles take awhile to finish and sometimes, some bosses have mobs with them. When you reach 1000+ levels, enemies gain the ability to use Devil Trigger making the fights much longer.

Before attempting Bloody Palace, it is recommended that you have the following:
10 L. Vital Star
10 L. Devil Star
Gold Orb
Max HP bar
Max DT bar
Maxed weapons

Those are enough to keep you alive while going for 90 levels on BP mode. Having a few back up of S. Vital Star should also help if you want to save some of those L. Vital Stars for the higher levels. Recommended devil hearts are Frost Heart, Aerial Heart, Quick Heart, Healing Heart and Offense Heart. One of your main devil hearts is Healing Heart, you're gonna have this equipped the whole time and then switch only to Offense Heart when fighting against wolves and goats.

For the characters, pick who you are most comfortable with.

Dante
One of the characters recommended when taking on bloody palace. Dante is the most powerful among the three because of his fully upgraded Vendetta sword and fully upgraded Missile Launcher and Shotgun. It will take around 3-4 hours for Dante to beat BP mode. Your main offense should be your Vendetta sword. Use guns for defensive purposes. Change your strategy when you are going to face against a pack of wolves. This is where your guns will come in handy. The goats are easily dealt with your Shotgun and Vendetta.

Lucia
Her advantage among the two is her Cranky Bomb. This is most effective when fighting against ground-based enemies. You're just going to stay on one corner then jump and drop those bombs. Another one of her advantages are her Devil Trigger special attacks.

Trish
One of the characters recommended when taking on bloody palace. She starts out already with maxed out weapons and Sparda deals a decent damage. On higher levels, you'll be relying on defensive moves like doing Round Tip->Dodge->Shoot and repeat. Doing this is going to take awhile to complete BP but it is the safest way. Doing the Round Tip tactic is going to take around 5-6 hours before you can complete BP. Another one of her advantages is her Air Raid attack. This is most powerful when you have Offense Heart equipped and this move can take care of goats and wolves quick.

*Tip*
When fighting against a pack of goats, your top priority are the flying ones. Also, when you are going to face against Sargasso enemies, deal with them quick because those guys are very dangerous when they enter DT mode. Use the Savage Golems as your "recovery point". Their high HP can let you charge your DT and then enter DT mode while having Healing Heart equipped. Their attacks are very slow so you have no problem dodging it.

Two Heads are Better than One
Defeat Tartarussian

Story related and cannot be missed.

Lucia will encounter Tartarussian on Mission 2.

Strategy:
Your main offense are your swords because Lucia's arsenals only does little damage. It's moves are very predictable giving you enough time to dodge and come back to continue dealing damage. Use devil trigger when it get's charged to deal maximum damage.

Note that in LMD mode, this boss has the ability to use devil trigger.

[top]
Monkeying Around
Defeat Orangguerra

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will first encounter Orangguerra on Mission 3 and Lucia will encounter Orangguerra on Mission 4

Strategy:
Your main offense is your sword. Focus only on the boss and don't mind the other mobs. It's moves are very predictable, it's like that there is a stance before it makes its attack and thus giving you enough time to dodge. Avoid getting hit to save time getting back up because if you get hit, chances are you'll get thrown away often. When you stay far away from the boss, it will use some kind of sphere attack, it can be dodge easily by dodging to your left or right.

Note that on DMD or LMD mode, it has the ability to use devil trigger.

[top]
No Joke
Defeat Jokatgulm

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will encounter Jokatgulm on Mission 4 and Lucia will encounter Jokatgulm on Mission 3

Strategy:
You can't get close to this boss if there's a purple smoke around it. To remove the smoke, destroy one of it's tentacles by either shooting from a distance or getting close and using your sword. Once the smoke is gone, use devil trigger to deal maximum damage. You have a few seconds to strike it's main body before the smoke gets back again and using a shield to throw you away and it will regenerate the destroyed tentacles. Repeat the steps until you defeat the boss.

Note that on DMD or LMD mode, this boss is highly aggressive. The amount of time given to you when you remove the smoke is also reduced.

[top]
Sin City
Defeat Nefasturris

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will encounter Nefasturris on Mission 6.

Phase 1 Strategy:
It's main attacks are shooting a white beam which strafes left and right of the screen and can be dodge by double jumping, it's second attack is shooting multiple lasers which can be dodge by rolling left or right. You can go for a defensive attack by shooting from a distance but this is rather slow compared to using DT and getting in close and use melee attack. Once it has taken enough damage, it will release Nefasvermis to attack Dante or to use as defense. When going in close, don't attack it on front because you'll get hit by it's laser attack. Stay on the side of the head to avoid the lasers.

Phase 2 Strategy:
You'll now fight Nefascapitas. It's weakpoint is the glowing area on it's mouth but going for this is very dangerous specially on higher difficulties because when it releases the multiple lasers, all the lasers will hit you and it does a lot of damage. Best way to take care of it is while the boss is on air, dodge most of it's attacks by dodging left and right and shoot when you can until it returns back to the ground. When the boss is on the ground, go to it's back and enter DT and slash away.

[top]
Deep One
Defeat Tateobesu

Story related and cannot be missed.

Lucia will encounter Tateobesu on Mission 7.

Strategy:
You'll have to rely on your arsenals for this fight because your sword fighting skills are limited while underwater. This boss has an Invisibility ability and this ability removes your aiming on the boss. Best way to take care of this boss when using Lucia is to go high ground and drop Cranky Bombs. If your DT is charged, you can use the DT special attack by pressing
and at the same time and this attack deals a decent damage. Be patient because this battle could take awhile because of it's invisibility ability.

Note that on LMD mode, this boss is on a permanent invisibility state. You can't lock on this boss so you will have to rely on manual aiming.

[top]
That's a Big Mother
Defeat Noctpteran

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will encounter Noctpteran on Mission 10 and Lucia will encounter Noctpteran on Mission 5.

Strategy:
You'll have to rely on your guns and arsenals for this boss because it spends it's time just flying around and dropping worms to annoy you on the ground. When your DT is charged, just fire away and if you are using Lucia, you can also use her special DT attack by pressing
and at the same time.
Once the boss is down, you'll have to take care of the worms on the ground to end the fight.

[top]
Hungry Like the Wolves
Defeat Bolverk

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will first encounter Bolverk on Mission 11.

Strategy:
Focus on Bolverk and don't mind the wolves. The best way to fight him is to use your DT and use your sword. On Mission 11, you can use the elevated platform and staying at the back end and just fire your Missile Launcher until he is defeated. His stinger attack can still reach you but his other attacks won't. You'll encounter him again later on but during the rematch, you'll have to rely on your sword fighting skills.

Defeat Plutonian

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will encounter Plutonian on Mission 12 and Lucia will encounter Plutonian on Mission 8.

Strategy:
Plutonian is just the same as Tartarussian. Use the same strategies you used before and this should be an easy fight. The only addition during this fight is that there are beams that comes out from the walls and there enemies that will come to aid Plutonian.

Note that on DMD and LMD mode, this boss has the ability to use devil trigger.

Not Just any Ordinary Human
Defeat Phantom

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will encounter Phantom on Mission 14 and Lucia will encounter Phantom on Mission 10.

Strategy:
Sadly, the easiest way of defeating Phantom on DMC 1 which is doing a DT + Helm breaker on Phantom's back won't work here because of the auto lock on and the lock on is focused on Phantom's head. For Dante, the best offense this time around is using DT + Stinger on the face until the fight ends. Watch out for it's claws and tail because sometimes, he will be using this to grab you and it can hurt a lot. Lucia will have to rely on her arsenals because she lacks certain moves that makes the Dante fight easy. You can use though the DT special attack for Lucia.

Never Forget a Face
Defeat Trismagia

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will encounter Trismagia on Mission 16 and Lucia will encounter Trismagia on Mission 12.

Strategy:
This boss has two forms. When it splits into three heads, each head has corresponding elements. The most dangerous ones are the Lightning and Flame heads because their attacks have strong homing and when it hits you consecutively, it could take away a large chunk of your HP. Dodge often and take time to charge your DT. The best weapon to use here are Dante's handguns or machine guns and for Lucia it will be her throwing knives. Save your DT until the three heads merges into the main head. When this happens, make sure you have Offense Heart equipped then enter DT mode and blast away. Don't bother using Lucia's special DT attack here. When the head splits again into three, dodge shoot and repeat the steps above.

Extinguished
Defeat the final boss with either Dante or Lucia

Story related and cannot be missed.

Dante will encounter the last boss on Mission 18 and Lucia will encounter the last boss on Mission 13.

Dante's scenario

Argosax of Chaos strategy:
You need to avoid getting hit as much as possible here. Shoot from a distance and save your DT for the second round. You're going to rely on your Machineguns and Missile Launcher.
  • Nefasturris: Nefasturris will use it's beam attack and multiple lasers attack. Be prepared to dodge these attacks often and then shoot with your Missile Launcher from a distance when you get the chance.
  • Orangguerra: It will use it's sphere attack when you're going to attack it from a distance. It will shoot it for a couple of times before giving you time to shoot back.
  • Furiataurus: Stay far as much as possible. Some of it's attack won't be able to hit you from the farthest distance.
  • Griffon: Stay on the left side where it's attacks won't be able to reach you. If you found that correct spot, you can lock onto Griffon and just blast away with your Missile Launcher.
  • Jokatgulm: Same as Griffon, there's a spot on the left side where it's attacks won't be able to reach you and you can just blast away.
  • Phantom: Phantom will be using his fireball and flame pillars attack from any range. Sub machine gun or Handguns are your best choice here because the launcher's fire recovery is slow.
The Despair Embodied strategy:
This boss is quite fast on it's attacks and teleports quite often so your sword fighting skills is not much applicable but if you can hit it with your swords while on DT mode, it can hurt more than your guns. Equip Offense, Frost and Quick Heart here. Dodge often and shoot when you get the chance. When your DT is charged, release it and shoot to deal a very strong damage.

Lucia's scenario
Possessed Arius strategy:
This boss is an easy one for a final boss. It's moves are slow thus giving you enough time to dodge. Use your swords and DT when it gets charged to deal the maximum damage. Be sure you have Offense heart and Quick heart equipped.

Arius Argosax strategy:
This time you'll have to rely on your arsenals because this boss stays on a higher ground than you. Keep throwing your knives then enter DT when it gets charged. When he get's close to you, dodge to the other side and repeat.

Stylish!
Perform an S Rank Combo using Dante

You'll earn this trophy after having a Show Time! rank combo. This will come naturally once you get a hang of doing strings of combos and dodging efficiently. If you are having difficulty earning this trophy, the biggest chance to earn this easily is on Mission 5 where you will fight three Infested Tanks. The tanks are stationary targets and they have a lot of HP so you can just mash until you hit Show Time!. A single tank's attacks can't reach you unless you go for its weak point or if the other tanks will spot you.

Perform an S Rank Combo using Lucia

You'll earn this trophy after having a Show Time! rank combo. This will come naturally once you get a hang of doing strings of combos and dodging efficiently. If you are having difficulty earning this trophy, the biggest chance to earn this easily is on the Mission 4 where you will fight an Infested Tank as a boss. The tank is just a stationary target so you can just mash until you hit Show Time!. Don't worry about dodging because it's attacks won't reach you unless you go for it's weak point.
