[top]The Official Wasteland Survival Guide: An Essential Guide to an Easier Trophy Hunt.

1. Weapon and Apparel Collecting (DLC Version)

If you have Game of the Year edition or own all of the DLC. I recommend you do the DLC first. The DLC weapons are easier to obtain the unique weapons in the main game. These weapons will help you finish big time, that is if your Skills for the weapons are high.

NOTE: In Mothership Zeta you can collect something called Alien Epoxy, this can be used to repair any and every weapon up to 100%. I will only specify that rare weapons can only be prepared with the epoxy, as far as the rest that can be repaired with other weapons it will be elementary that you can use the epoxy if you choose. To repair a weapon you must have it equipped otherwise you'll waste an Alien Epoxy. It will take 3-4 if your weapon is broken or in critical state. I recommend using the epoxy on only the rare weapons like the Gauss Rifle or the Microwave Emitter. The Epoxy also seems to slow degradation, but it depends on the weapon. The Drone Cannon still degrades quite quickly but not as fast as it normally does. I fired it 40 times and the bar moved only a little bit.

Operation: Anchorage

All of these can only be obtained after the simulation.

Chinese Stealth Armor: Works like a Stealth Boy when you enter Sneak Mode, except it only adds 15 Stealth Points. A must for you players that like to sneak around. Can be worn with a hat or glasses. No way to repair yourself.

Gauss Rifle: Can you say bad ass Energy Weapon? It can take down enemies with one shot on Normal difficulty with a high enough Energy Weapons skill. If you have a low Energy Weapons skill then it can potentially knock enemies down where you can further wail on them without them fighting back. Only way to repair is with Alien Epoxy.

Jingwei's Shocksword: Basically a Chinese Officer's Sword with the power to shock enemies, and higher damage to boot! Can be repaired with Chinese Officer's Swords.

Winterized T-51b Power Armor: While heavy it has 1.5 million damage points so it will never degrade. Plus a bonus to Rad. Resistance.

Winterized T-51b Power Helmet: Has 1 million points of damage so just like with the armor it will never degrade your whole entire game. Plus it gives bonuses to Rad. Resistance and +1 Charisma.

The Pitt

All of these are given to you by Everett when you give him the appropriate amount of steel ingots.
Metal Blaster: Given you you when you collect and give Everett 50 steel ingots. It's twice as powerful as a regular Laser Rifle and the Wazer Rifle, another unique weapon located in the main game. It has a downside though, it's not good at long range. You can repair it with Laser Rifles.

Perforator: Given you you when you collect and give Everett 90 steel ingots. A silenced Assault Rifle with a scope of a .44 Scoped Magnum. It's perfect for long range shots without alerting other enemies. Though sadly it degrades quickly, luckily you can repair it with Assault Rifles.

The Mauler: Given you you when you collect and give Everett 80 steel ingots. A must have Melee Weapon! You can take down an enemy in V.A.T.S. with one hit! Sadly it will use all of your Action Points, but even out of V.A.T.S. it is a devastating weapon. Can only be repaired with Auto Axes which are only in The Pitt.

Point Lookout

Backwater Rifle: Really good weapon that shoots .10 mm rounds, really good at making heads explode. You must do the side quest "The Velvet Curtain" in order to obtain it, I'll provide videos explaining the quest (Chill out TGT and Star_Waters this is a side quest, there are no trophies for the Point Lookout side quests.).This gun replaces the Lever-Action Rifles I assume you've been picking up. Best thing is it won't take away any Health Points with use! Can be repaired withe Lever-Action Rifles.

"The Velvet Curtain" Video Walkthrough:

Microwave Emitter: Pretty awesome weapon if you have a high enough Energy Skill. You earn it after the main quest "Meeting of the Minds".
*Spoiler Alert*!

Toggle Spoiler

Anyways, once you make your choice you'll get a key, open the door and inside is a bunch of goodies including the Microwave Emitter. Can only be repaired with Alien Epoxy. It takes up half of the screen in First Person so I recommend either V.A.T.S. combat or Third Person when using it. Honestly it's not so great but in the right hands it could be devastating.

Mothership Zeta

Alien Blaster: A pretty kick ass alien weapon, it can vaporize enemies in 1-2 shots with 100 Energy Weapons points. This is found after Mothership Zeta, all you have to do is walk to the left for a short distance to find it next to a dead alien. Can be repaired with Alien Epoxy.

Atomic Pulverizer: An improved Alien Atomizer that is found in the Weapons Lab, once you enter head straight. Then head to the doorway you immediately see, careful for the turrets above. once you enter the doorway activate the console to the right to open the door, inside there should be a dormant drone alone with lots of Alien Epoxy, ammo, and the Atomic Pulverizer which is on the shelf. It can be repaired with Alien Atomizers.

Captain's Sidearm: Once you reach the Bridge you can get this off of the Alien Captain. It's like the Metal Blaster but it can fire more shots at once in V.A.T.S. Also quite powerful with the "Xenotech Expert" perk. Yet I found myself using the Alien Blaster more. Can be repaired with Alien Epoxy.

Destabilizer: An improved Alien Disintegrater that is also found in the Weapons Lab, the Shooting Range to be exact. After you kill yet more aliens, (How many aliens are on this ship?!), follow the quest arrow to the Teleportation Device. DO NOT use the Teleporter yet, the Destabilizer is on the shelf next to the Teleporter. Don't leave yet, here you can earn the Perk "Xenotech Expert" which will increase the damage you can give while using alien weapons. Not only can it be repaired with Alien Disintegraters but if you hold it will rapid fire!

Drone Cannon Ex-B: This is also in the Weapons Lab, just before the Shooting Range. This weapon will be in the Experimental Drone room attached to two drones, there are two Drone Cannon Ex-Bs. There should be buttons in front of a window, they summon Brahmin. If you are pressing the buttons and you don't see Brahmin then you are in the wrong room. I'll make it clearer, the room will contain two Drone Pods and two Teleportation Devices and the doorway till be blocked off with an energy field. Unlike the regular Drone Cannon the shots on this one explode on impact but it still shoots in an arc, it also is still not wise to use in V.A.T.S. Can be repaired with Drone Cannons.

Electro-Suppressor: An improved Shock Baton that can knock an enemy to the ground. WARNING! Can only be obtained in the "Among the Stars" Quest, just before the Decompression Chamber. DO NOT enter the Decompression Chamber if you want this weapon. You will find it in the Engine Room, once you enter go straight. Keep going till you enter a rotunda like room Head immediately left and then the first door on the left. It will be on the table, just watch out for aliens and drones. Can be repaired with Shock Batons.

Firelance: Although not found on the ship or near the ship it's still an alien weapon. Now this one is purely based on luck, so you'll need to have high Luck. It occurs randomly in the Wasteland so I can't pinpoint any location. There will be an explosion in the sky when it does happen. the explosion is small, like a cherry bomb going off. This weapon uses alien ammo, that's why I included it. But that's not all, it has the potential to set enemies ablaze! Can be repaired with Alien Epoxy.

MLPX Novasurge: An improved Plasma Pistol found in a safe in the Cargo Hold Area. The safe is unlocked by a computer on the other side of the room, ya go figure . Anyways both the computer and the safe are on the lower floor of the Cargo Hold so they aren't hard to find. Note that you need 75 Science Skill points to hack the computer. Can be repaired with Plasma Pistols, Enclave Officers carry these.

Paulson's Revolver: A .44 magnum that can shoot 9 pellets at once, like a high powered shotgun. It is found on the cowboy Paulson. There are only two ways you can get this, you can either kill him yourself or you can ask for his help and let him get killed by the aliens. Can be repaired by any .44 magnum

Samurai Sword: There is an easy and a long way to get this. The easy way is to kill the Japanese Samurai that you wake up from cryo-sleep. Strangely enough no Karma is gained or lost when you kill him. The long way is to take the Teleportation Matrix to the Maintenance Level. Once there make your way to Sally, no worries there is only one way to go. Follow her, taking out any aliens on the way. After a while she'll accidentally dump you into the trash, no it's not gonna go all Star Wars on you. There is only one way out so continue on and kill the alien that is threatening Sally. Once dead she'll come out of the room she was in, go straight ahead into a room filled with First Aid Boxes, the sword is on the middle shelf next to a First Aid Box.
Can be repaired with Alien Epoxy.

2. Earning the Karma Trophies
Now you'll notice that there are three trophies at level 8, 14, and 20 (and 30 if you have Broken Steel). Now you could play through the game 3 times if you wish OR you could save your game when you are on the level before the trophy specified level, (7, 13, and 19) and reloading that save after you earn all three trophies. Now to earn them you just reduce your Karma, or boost your Karma if you want to be evil. For Evil Karma just blow up the town Megaton, you need an Explosives skill of at least 30, just don't forget to reload so you can gain instant Evil Karma right away. For Neutral Karma just Kill innocent civilians till it reaches Neutral. As for Good Karma, well, just do good things like help people. Disarming the bomb in Megaton is a good example or you could give any Purified Water you collect to the Wastelander who is sitting outside of Megaton. To check on your Karma open up your Pip-Boy with and under Stats go to General and it will show your Karma.

3. Videos are Provided
I have provided videos for every quest as well as the description, including the trophies: "Weaponsmith", "The Bigger They Are...", and "Vault Tech C.E.O.". Don't watch the videos unless you are really stuck because they are fully detailed and contain spoilers. Watch the videos in 720p as the locations are hard to make out in the lower qualities.

4. Follow the Quest Arrow
The Quest Arrow will tell you exactly where to go so always follow it.

5. Talk to Knock Knock in Lamplight Caverns for your Speech Challenges.
There is a glitch where you can keep doing a Speech Challenge over and over again. Talk to Knock Knock in Lamplight Caverns, she is with the group of kids you see at the entrance when you first enter. Just tell her every time she tells a joke that it was funny. It will replenish itself and you can do the Speech Challenge as many times as needed.

6. Maps provided in each quest.
I have provided maps to each location for each quest and behemoth, bobblehead, and schematic locations.

7. Weaponsmith requires one schematic.
I have provided the locations to every single schematic to all 7 custom weapons. Do note that you only need to collect one of each so only collect them all if you want to.

A simple task, but not quite so easy. Head to Girdershade, Nuka-Cola Quantums are the Nuka-Colas that glow blue. I am hoping that you haven't sold any or have drank them. There are three areas where you can find 3-5 of them. They are the Nuka-Cola Plant (Which will be marked on your map upon starting.), the Super Duper Mart, Eulogy's Pad in Paradise Falls (Behind the stairwell, there is only one stairwell.), and in Old Olney. The Quantums in Old Olney aren't actually in the city, the buildings can't be entered. Instead there is a building at the east end of the town, it's a small building. There is a skeleton on the steps along with a note about where the Nuka-Cola shipment truck is. Turns out it crashed nearby, approximately southeast. Before you head to the memorial you need to head to the Museum of History to get a picture of the memorial. Luckily you don't need to use any metro stations to reach the Museum of History. If you've done, which I assumed you did, the story quests first then Fast Travel to the Washington Monument, the museum is just a short walk north just follow the Quest Arrow like always. Once inside head straight and turn left just before the woolly mammoth. Head up the stairs, killing any Feral Ghouls in your way. Go straight and enter the door, after that go up the stairs and hang a left and keep going down the hall killing any ghouls in the way. Unlock the cell door and head inside, then right and then right again up the stairs. The picture is on the wall to the left after climbing the stairs. Now you could go back right now or you can kill all of the ghouls and collect all of the Lincoln artifacts, including a really good weapon called "Lincoln's Repeater". Whatever your choice you now have the picture so head back to the Temple and give it to Caleb. Now head to the memorial, Fast Travel to the Museum of History and just head right. There aren't Super Mutants there but there are slavers which gives you two options, you can be evil and side with the slavers or you can kill all of the slavers and be good. Now this isn't necessary to start the quest as you can just head to Arefu without the letter, but Arefu gets marked on the map if you do and the letter helps convince her brother to go back home. Head to Arefu which is located on a bridge west of Big Town. Approach the town and the guard there, Evan King, will almost blow you to hell. Ask him what's going on an he'll tell you someone called the Family has been terrorizing the town. Check on the residents and report back to Evan. You'll meet up with a guard named Robert If you have a high enough Speech Skill then do the Speech Challenge to gain entrance, if not then you can still convince him to let you in. Keep going, once in the main room where the Family lives head up the stairs and talk to Vance. There is a Speech Challenge when talking to him, if successful he'll tell you about the Family. If you fail then you have two options, you can either hack the terminal downstairs which requires a Science Skill of 100 to hack or talk to five Family members to learn five different "laws" about the Family. Once done ask Vance to see Ian, he'll gladly let you. Make your way to Ian and if you have a high enough Speech Skill then try the Speech Challenge. If not show him the letter from his sister, if you talked to her first. Now if you have a High Medicine Skill you will have a Medicine Dialog Choice. You can convince Vance to get the blood the Family needs from bloodpacks. Tell Vance that Arefu can donate bloodpacks to the Family in exchange they protect the town. Go back to Arefu to tell Evan the good news, then back to Vance to tell him the deal is on. Head north from either Paradise Falls or Vault 101, if from Vault 101 Oasis is directly north. The entrance is hard to find, you need to be coming from the west. There will be a narrow path that marks the entrance, if there are no green plants growing then that's not the right path. Refer to the first video on the entrance please. Anyways once you find the entrance, nice work making it hard to find Bethesda, talk to Tree Father Birch. He'll after the conversation enter the gate. Talk to him again when you reach the altar and he'll tell you that you need to partake in a ritual in order to meet "him". Just drink the sap when prompted to and you'll pass out, reawakening in a different area. You'll meet a poor guy named Harold that was fused to a tree that he calls Bob. Talk to him as you wish and after a while he'll request that you kill him by stabbing his heart. You'll have to make your way through the Oasis Caverns to reach his heart which the place is full of Mirelurks and Mirelurk Kings. Follow the Quest Arrow to where the entrance lies, Tree Father Birch will talk to you after his conversation with Leaf Mother Laurel which he'll give you Birch's Sap which stops the growth of Oasis when placed on Harold's heart. Talk to Leaf Mother Laurel who gives you Laurel's Liniment which will accelerate the growth of Oasis when placed on Harold's heart. You now have four options, one is the fastest way to end the quest but makes everyone hostile. The first option is to use a fire based weapon like the Flamer to burn Harold. It's the fastest but you'll receive big Karma loss and all of Oasis will be hostile. The other ways are to enter the caverns and either place the Sap or Liniment on Harold's heart or destroy the heart. If you choose one of the other three options then talk to Treetender Cypress to get the key to the caverns and make your way to Harold's heart, there is only one way to go. Once there choose what to do and then leave. If you destroyed Harold's heart then you gain the perk "Barkskin" which makes your skin as hard as bark, meaning improved Damage Resistance. Once you exit the Caverns talk to Tree Father Birch, if you applied the Liniment you'll talk to Leaf Mother Laurel. Then leave Oasis, quest completed.

No need for a video for this one. Talk to the sheriff in Megaton to start this quest. If you have 25 Explosive Skill points you can disarm the bomb. You can not miss the bomb, it's in the center of the town. Now if you want to be evil you need 30 Explosive Skill points to rig the bomb to explode. If you disarm it talk to the sheriff to complete the quest. If you rigged it head to Tenpenny tower and head to the Tenpenny suite to blow Megaton to hell. Quest Complete.

Completed "Tenpenny Tower"

Yet another that doesn't need a video. First you must gain entrance to Tenpenny Tower, talk to security over the intercom to get in. Then talk to the head of security, he's next to the gate, to start the quest. Now the easiest way to complete this quest is to head to Warrington Trainyard make your way to where Roy Phillips and his band of Ghouls live and kill them. Just so you know this will reduce Karma but it is the easiest and fastest way. The other two ways are to go into the basement and open the doors so Roy and his crew can come in and take over the tower. The last one is to reach a compromise. Talk to Tenpenny in his suite and convince him ghouls aren't bad. He'll say that he'll let the ghouls live there if you can convince certain tenants that ghouls aren't bad. Of course by convince I mean kick them out, you gain Karma for this. Once done head back to Tenpenny and tell him that they left and go tell Roy the good news. Quest Complete.

If you did the story you should have Paradise Falls marked on your map, if not it's just a short way north northeast from Arefu. Talk to Grouse and tell him you'll get him some slaves. He'll give you a Mesmetron to stun the people you are to enslave. There are four people to enslave, but you don't have to enslave them. You can kill them, if you wish to, complete the quest. I only enslaved Red and my follower killed Flak when I tried enslaving him and when everyone became hostile but I forgot to go get another slave collar. Anyways if you don't kill these people you'll have all four locations already mapped out. Head to Rivet City and enslave or kill Flak, he's in the Marketplace. Remember to use the Mesmetron before attempting to put the slave collar on him. Return to Paradise Falls for another collar and basically rinse and repeat for all four potential slaves. Word of warning, Big Town, Tenpenny Tower, and Rivet City will be hostile after this quest. Remember to go back to Grouse after each slave to get a new collar. Once you bring the last one in the quest is complete.

Go up the stairs and enter the doors called Carol's Place. Inside you need to talk to Mister Crowley. Once the quest is activated just follow the quest arrows. You can either kill the targets or you can convince them to give you their key. To convince them you need a high enough Speech Skill. You'll have to make your way to the National Archives through metro tunnels so follow the Quest Arrow to the right metro stations. go straight into the rotunda where you would think the Declaration is. You'll fight some Super Mutants with a woman named Sydney. Protect her from the Super Mutants as she'll aid you when in the underground vault where the Declaration is stored. There are robots down here so if you have pulse grenades or pulse mines use them. Make your way through the hallways, there is only one way, you'll reach the door to the room where the Declaration is. You'll meet a robot named Button Gwinnett. Talk to him, saving before so as there is a Speech Challenge, if you have the "Robotics Expert" perk you can tell him to shutdown. After you shut him down, or if you were unsuccessful you can kill him, use his terminal to unlock the big door in front of you. Open the middle safe to grab the Declaration, now head back to Abraham Washington and give him the document and quest complete.

Trouble on the Homefront
Completed "Trouble on the Homefront"

Head back to Vault 101, you'll get a distress signal. Listen to the distress signal and then reenter the vault. You'll be stopped upon entering by a Vault Security Officer, he won't turn you in he'll just tell you what's going on. Follow the Quest Arrow to where Amata and the Rebels are hunkered down. Talk to Amata, she'll tell you the new Overseeris a power hungry jerk. Head to the Overseer's Office and talk to Overseer Mack, yes like the truck, no matter what you'll have to kill him. Head back to Amata and tell her that the Overseer is dead, she'll become the new Overseer. Finally leave the vault forever, quest complete.

All of the possible ways, while still giving you the trophy.

Keep the Vault Closed.

1. Kill the rebels. Killing Amata only should break them up, but you may also have to kill the other rebels as well.(You'll gain bad karma for this even if you're trying to keep the Vault closed). NOTE: Killing Amata obviously does NOT sit well with Alphonse Almodovar, who will turn hostile if you use this route.

2. Persuade Amata to stay in the Vault (using Speech) and it will also convince the rebels to stay in the vault. (You'll gain good karma for this).

3. Hack the Overseer's computer and discover the attempts by the Enclave to gain entry into Vault 101, and the Overseer's refusal to admit them. Speak to Amata and tell her this and it will convince her and the rebels to stay in the Vault. This has the same result as Speech, but without the skill check. (You'll also gain good karma for this).

Open the Vault
1. Kill the current Overseer.

2. Discuss with the Overseer about why the Rebels are correct. By using a Speech skill check, he will realize that the Vault won't survive more than a generation or two no matter how many supplies they may receive. NOTE: This will only be available if Alphonse Almodovar is still the Overseer. (You'll gain good karma for this).

3. View the computer in the security office either by hacking into it or obtaining the password from the desk or Officer Wilkins. Then inform the Overseer of Security's plans to kill the Rebels. Similarly to Amata, this is a guaranteed way to achieve this outcome (as long as Alphonse is Overseer) . You can also learn of the plan from Mr. Brotch after releasing him from the cell. (You'll also gain good karma for this).

The Soil Stradivarius will be sitting on a table near the windows, inside a case. Leave the vault and Fast Travel back to Agatha's House and give her the Soil Stradivarius. There are two ways to activate this quest, you can head back to the Underworld and head to the clinic and have the doctor revive Reilly. She'll tell you her team is in trouble and will mark where they were last, Vernon Square. The other is you can just head to Vernon Square and listen to the Ranger Emergency Broadcast. Follow the Quest Arrow and make your way to the hospital, killing any Super Mutants in your way. Once inside follow the Quest Arrow to the top floor to reach the fallen radio antennae to the Statesman Hotel. Make your way to the rooftops of the hotel where the rangers have made camp to fend off the Super Mutants. Butcher will tell you that the only safe way out is the service elevator on the roof but you need a fission battery to make it work again. Follow the Quest Arrow back inside where a dead robot is. Take the battery and give it to Donovan, once the elevator is fixed take it and make your escape. Kill any Super Mutants in the way, now make your way to the Ranger HQ. You'll have to use the metro tunnels to get there so once again follow the Quest Arrow. Once you reach the HQ talk to Reilly and quest complete.

Reached Level 8 with Bad Karma

Following the tip above make a save file before you reach level 8, 3/4ths done with level 7 preferably. If you are an evil character then go good things such as giving Purified Water to Mickey outside of Megaton or Carlos outside of Rivet City. You can also gain Karma by giving Scrap Metal to Walter in Megaton without charging him. Make sure to check your Karma levels under General, which is under Stats in the Pip-Boy. Once you unlock the trophy reload for the other two. Do this method for all of the Karma trophies, if you have Broken Steel you can save just before level 29 and level up like normal. Then use the "Here and Now" perk to instantly reach level 30. Then use the "Highway to Hell" perk for Bad Karma, the "Karmic Balance" perk for Neutral Karma", and the "Stairway to Heaven" perk for Good Karma. Silver-Tongued Devil
Won 50 Speech Challenges

Two ways to do this, one way is to save before talking to a person and doing any possible Speech Challenges they present. The other way makes this trophy too easy, it's a glitch that makes a Speech Challenge reappear each time you talk to the person. This person is the little girl named Knock Knock in Little Lamplight. Listen to her joke and tell her it was funny every time, Speech Challenge, do this as many times as needed for the trophy.

[top]
Data Miner
Hacked 50 terminals

Not as hard as it sounds. Get a Science Skill of 100 as soon as possible, this makes hacking easier and gives you access to all terminals. When hacking you have only four chances but depending on the difficulty, Average to Very Hard, you can get an Allowance Replenishment which gives you three more chances. When hacking make three selections first, then look for anything within these symbols: <>{}[](). They have to have a closing and an ending, <example>. These remove duds, wrong passwords, and gives you at least one Allowance Replenishment so do this after you tried to find the password 3 times. If you are left with one more chance press to exit the terminal and start again. There are tons of terminals out there, even some in the DLC. Just remember to exit the terminal if you have one chance left and you can' figure out the password. Below I have provided the info from the previous guide on how to hack.

Example of Hacking:
