[top]Tips & Strategies

This game plays like classic first-person point-and-click games from the late 80s and early 90s such as Shadowgate and Deja Vu. Basically, there are 3 parts to each area: the view of your surroundings, your inventory and text on the bottom of the screen. Pay attention to the text as there are no voices used in this game.
To use an item with something in your current area, simply click on the item with the button and drag it to the item you wish to use it with. This is how most of the problem-solving of this game is handled.

The trophies for the PS3 version will generally unlock only after moving out of the area that you are currently in. The PS4 version does not have this delay issue. Note that this game shares a single trophy list between the PS3 and PS4 versions despite it not being a cross-buy game.

Save often, but carefully. There is no autosave. You can manually save at any time, but it will overwrite your previous save. Make sure you have done everything you need to do in your current area before saving.

[top]Roadmap

1. Completionist Run. Here is where the bulk of the trophies will be earned. Focus on picking up everything and going everywhere. Use the pay phone to call R.L. Stine and the cassette player for helping the Ghost Child. Be sure not to use the cell phone at all and let it run to 0% charge. This run should get you most of the trophies.

2. Speed Run. Now it is time to go for How I Learned to Fly. By this time you should be familiar with all ins and outs of the game and know how to make an efficient run. Use the cell phone to call R.L. Stine and to help the Ghost Child.

3. Cleanup. Get everything you missed to close the book on this .

[top]Trophies

[top]
You Can't Scare Me!
Earn every Trophy.

Just like it says, earn every trophy to get this Platinum. This game is short but there are a lot of trophies that are easy to miss if you're not careful. Good luck and enjoy!

[top]
Calling All Creeps!
Collect the cell phone from your school locker.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
This will be the first trophy you earn in the game. After the opening cutscene has finished, you will be prompted to go to your school locker to get your cell phone. Simply use the key you have in your possession on the locker room door and click on your cell phone to take it and earn this trophy.

[top]
Stay Out of the Forest
Find a way past the strange man in the woods.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
The first obstacle you must overcome in this game is a mysterious man made of tree vines. First, take the weed-killer from the janitor's shed located in the area to the right of the school parking lot. Then, go to the forest and use the weed killer on the Strange Man to get out of the forest and earn this trophy.

[top]
Good Hare Day
Place the Magician's Top Hat on its rightful owner.

MISSABLE!
You will find the Magician's Top Hat in the back of the moving truck that has crashed on the street. Once you go back to where the drain pipe is, there will be a rabbit just outside the hole. Use the hat with the rabbit to give him back his hat and earn this trophy.
Note that the rabbit will disappear if you go to another area before giving him his hat, which is what makes this a missable trophy.

[top]
Creep from the Deep
Toss 10 expendable items into a deep, dark hole.

The "dark hole" that this trophy refers to is in the area where you crawl through the pipe to reach your neighborhood. You can throw almost any item into the hole. This trophy will unlock after 10 items have been disposed of in this manner.
Note that some of the "expendable" items may be answers to Cronby's riddles. I STRONGLY advise players to wait until the bookstore is unlocked before going for this trophy to avoid complicating matters.

[top]
Welcome to Dead House
Complete Area 1 and return home.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
This trophy will unlock when you unlock the front door of your house, which has transformed into a Haunted House while you were away.

[top]
An Old Story's End
Evict an elderly intruder.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
The elderly intruder is a ghost named Aunt Dahlia. First, you will need to get prune juice from the refrigerator in the kitchen. Next, talk to Aunt Dahlia in the following manner: refuse to hug her, apologize, decline the offer for prune juice, talk about school, change the subject and keep talking until Aunt Dahlia falls asleep. Then use the Prune juice on the glass Aunt Dahlia is holding. When she wakes up, Aunt Dahlia will drink the prune juice, killing her and getting you a trophy. She will also drop a cassette you will need later.

[top]
The Ghost Next Door
See to the needs of the 3 unexpected guests.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
This trophy refers to the 3 Ghost Children in the foyer of the house. To unlock all of the house's rooms, you will need to help them.

Blond Boy: Use the letter you found in the mailbox. He will drop a piece of photo paper. The basement will be unlocked as well.

Young Girl: You will need the screwdriver from the basement. Examine the grandfather clock and use the screwdriver on the 1988 tab. This will unlock the guest bedroom and your room.

Young Boy: First, collect the photo paper mentioned earlier and the cassette left behind after beating Aunt Dahlia. Get the wire hanger from the basement closet and use it on the garbage disposal to acquire the key to the study. Collect the laundry key and chess piece from beneath the sink, then go to the dark room.

There, dip the photo into each of the three trays for EXACTLY 60 seconds each (you may need a stopwatch to help you here). After rinsing the photo and drying it, combine your new photo with the portrait from the basement and hang it above the portrait without a head. Open the portrait to find a chess piece. Now collect the final chess piece from the study.

Go to your room and use the 3 chess pieces on the board. When put in the correct spots, you will get a cassette player. Combine the cassette with the cassette player. Finally, defeat the toy robot and use the batteries with the cassette player. Now return to the foyer and use the cassette player with the young boy. You will now have access to the master bedroom and this trophy.

[top]
It Came from the Internet!
Used modern technology to give the second Ghost Child his heart's desire.

MISSABLE!
The alternate way to help the second Ghost Child is by downloading the song on the cassette to your phone. For this, you will need the cassette and the password to the computer.
The password will be revealed on the bathroom mirror when both the sink faucet and bath faucet are turned on. Afterwards, click on the password to memorize it. Once in the study, choose music and use the cassette on the search button to find the song. Download it to your phone, then use the phone with the Ghost Child to earn this trophy.

[top]
It Came from Beneath the Sink!
Face what lies beneath the sinků and survive!

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
You will need to get under the sink if you are to get the key to the laundry room and one of the 3 chess pieces. First, use the screwdriver on each of the 4 screws under the sink to get into the crawlspace. Next, take the correct path (,,,,, on the d-pad) to get to the end, where you will find a bag with the items mentioned earlier. After picking up the bag, monster blood will start to flow from a broken pipe. Keep going backwards ( on the d-pad) to escape and earn this trophy.

[top]
Elevator to Nowhere
Access the mysterious dimension from every possible angle.

There are four doors in the haunted house that lead to the "mysterious dimension" in this game. These doors can serve as a quick way to travel between sections of the house. Simply enter this area from all 4 doors to earn this trophy.
The doors are located at:
  • Basement
  • Laundry Room
  • Guest Bedroom
  • Master Bedroom

[top]
Toy Terror: Batteries Included
Disable a deadly toy bent on destruction.

The toy robot in the trophy description is in the guest bedroom of the Haunted House. To defeat it, you will need the dish soap from the kitchen sink and the screwdriver from the basement.
Once you are in the guest bedroom, examine the pile of toys and the robot will confront you. Use the dish soap on the toy robot to knock him down. Next, use the screwdriver on the robot when he is down to open his back. Finally, take the batteries from the robot to completely disable it and earn this trophy.

[top]
How I Got my Shrunken Head
Solve a compression problem to reach the attic.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
To get past this obstacle, you will need the screwdriver from the basement tool box and the container from the dark room. Once you get access to your parents' bedroom, use the window to gain access to the gargoyle and use the container on its saliva. This will give you a container of saliva to use.
Next, go into the attic and use the screwdriver on the pipe to fill the room with monster blood. Note that if you do not do this, the room will shrink until it kills you. Then, use the container filled with saliva on the monster blood to turn the blood to stone. This will allow you to safely get to the attic and earn this trophy, which will unlock once the attic has been reached.

[top]
I Was Your Evil Twin
Look into an antique mirror and do some self reflection.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
After getting into the attic, you will need to defeat a ghost living inside an Antique Mirror to find a Goosebumps book. To do so, you will need the Hand Mirror from the bathroom next to your room. Once you are in the attic, simply use the Hand Mirror with the Antique Mirror to make the mirror ghost see his reflection, destroying it and the mirror and earning you this trophy.

[top]
Haunted Car
Convince your brother to give you a ride across town.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
Once the Goosebumps book has been found in the attic, return to the foyer of the Haunted house to find your older brother Chad. After speaking with him, you make a deal to find his birth certificate in exchange for a ride to the Mall. Open the safe in your parent's bedroom (the code to the safe is given by Chad and will automatically be entered) and take Chad's birth certificate. Present Chad with proof that his parents are really is parents to gain use of Chad's driving services and this trophy as well.

[top]
Shop Til You Dropů Dead!
Find a way inside the Mall.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
You will need two things to get inside the Mall: a ride from Chad and a Security Keycard. The keycard is buried near the Haunted Tree, which can only be accessed after defeating the Beast from the East. After defeating him, use the spade you picked up from the backyard to dig up the dirt pile to get the keycard. This trophy will unlock as soon as you enter the mall.

[top]
Trick orů Trapped!
Survive a power outage with gnome complications.

The power outage mentioned occurs after you go to the security center and drain the fountain. Upon leaving, the power will go out. You will need to go in the correct directions to escape or be killed by gnomes.
The correct directions are: ,, , , , , , , , , .
Once you escape, you will be just outside Mayfield's Department Store and earn this trophy.

[top]
The Monster Who Cried Girl
Recreate a crime scene to get security off your scent.

If you are looking to use the pay phone to call R.L. Stine, you will need to distract the security guard by dressing a mannequin to resemble a shoplifter. You will need several items from various areas of the mall:
  • Mannequin (Mayfield's, take the one on the left as the other two will kill you if you touch them)
  • Red Dress (Mayfield's)
  • Heels (Mayfield's)
  • Fedora (Hat Store)
  • Green Cotton Candy (Candy Store, you will need this to give the mannequin some hair)
  • Fake Jewelry (Arcade, you will need 35 tickets from playing Skeeball)
Once you have these items, go to the area with the massage tables and use the mannequin on the empty space. Next, dress the mannequin with the various items you have collected. Finally, leave the area. If you did everything correctly, the text on the screen will tell you that the security guard ran over to the mannequin, earning you this trophy.

[top]
Deep in the Jungle of Retail
Correctly answer a riddle as if your life depended on it.

To gain access to Mayfield's, you will need to answer a riddle from a leprechaun named Cronby. To solve it, you must show him the answer, which is an item picked up in your travels. The riddle is randomly selected. Cronby will kill you if you give the wrong answer.
NOTE: Save before entering Mayfield's. If you get stuck, you can quit and load the save again. Cronby will likely have a different riddle.

Here are the riddle solutions:
  • "Beautiful, by any color": Blue Rose
  • Squash a spider: Magazine
  • Articulate character: Figurine
  • A plea for a missing best friend: Flyer
  • Invaluable for a dark night... until it melts: Candle

It Came From Ohio!
Track down RL Stine in the phone book and give him a call.

This is the longer of the 2 ways to call R.L. Stine. Therefore, it is best saved for your completitionist run.
First, click on the name Ghoulberg in the phone book in the pay phone area and select the memorize option. To use the pay phone, you will need the coins from the fountain. Finally, you will need to distract the security guard so you can use the phone without getting caught.
To see how to distract the security guard, see The Monster Who Cried Girl.

[top]
Using the ol' Brain Juice
Find a way to call RL Stine without touching gross coins or a dirty phone receiver.

This is the quicker of the 2 ways to contact R.L. Stine. Therefore, it is best saved for you speed run.
First, click on the name Ghoulberg in the phone book in the pay phone area and select the memorize option. Next, head to the cafeteria, since interference will prevent you from getting a telephone signal near the pay phone. Finally, select the cell phone, use the call option and select the "????" number to call R.L. Stine. You will get this trophy after the call is finished.

[top]
Are You Terrified Yet?
Find entry into the bookstore.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
This trophy is earned by opening the door to the bookstore where you need to confront Slappy. For this, you will need the candy bag and exactly .73 pounds of candy from Cavity City. First, take the bag and fill it with the following items: fruit caps, fruit orbs, chocolate pretzels, pb cups and sugar caps. Examine the cash register to access the scale that weighs the candy. Finally, use the candy bag on the scale to weigh the candy, opening the locked door to the bookstore and earning you this trophy.

[top]

Not the Living Dummy's Night
Survive the game to completion.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
This is the trophy for defeating the mastermind behind the schemes that have challenged you throughout the game: Slappy the Living Dummy.
Before confronting Slappy, you MUST call R.L. Stine so that he can properly deal with the most famous villain in the Goosebumps series.
Next, you need to talk to him and stall for time until R.L. Stine arrives. This requires talking to him for as long as possible. There are multiple "correct" answers, but one of the choices will get you Slappy's Nightmare. The correct choices are:
  • Don't Give Name
  • Stammer It out
  • Sincere
  • Whatever
  • Challenge
  • Scrutinize
  • Snark
  • Made Ya Look
  • Fight Back

[top]
Say Cheese
Take a photograph using the Haunted Camera.

The Haunted Camera is found in the dark room next to the laundry room. To access this room, you will need a key from the pipes area underneath the sink. Once acquired, snap any picture it allows you to take to earn this trophy.

[top]
Say Cheese--Again!
Take pictures of every monster possible using the Haunted Camera.

MISSABLE!
There are a total of 7 monsters that need to be photographed to earn this trophy. Note that there are other things that can be photographed for this trophy but there are only 7 film reels to find in the game (including the one when you take the camera). This leaves absolutely no room for error.
The 7 monsters are:
  • Aunt Dahlia
  • Toy Robot
  • Gargoyle Blood (in the room before the attic)
  • Beast from the East
  • Cronby
  • Mannequin
  • Officer Murphy

[top]
Earth Geeks Must Go!
Achieve a perfect game of skeeball.

The skeeball machine is in the arcade. This game has the player rolling a ball down one of 6 lanes to try to get as high a score as possible.
You can start playing after getting the coins from the drained fountain. Unfortunately, this trophy has an element of luck to it. Even if you roll a ball down one of the two center lanes, there is no guarantee you will hit the 50-point targets. Just keep playing and the trophy will pop once the perfect score is earned.

[top]
It's Only a Nightmare
Complete the game without ever using the cell phone.

MISSABLE!
Just like it says, you must never use your cell phone after getting it from your school locker. This means not accessing tips, the map or calling R.L. Stine. As a result, this is best saved for your completionist run, since you will have to call R.l. Stine from the pay phone.

[top]
Don't Go to Sleep!
Charge your cell phone.

There is an outlet in the Mall, in the area where the pay phone is. Simply use the cell phone with the outlet to charge the phone and earn this trophy.

[top]
Danger Time
Complete the game after draining your phone to 0% battery.

This is best done on the completionist run, since it takes time to drain your phone's battery to 0%. It takes about 1 hour for the cell phone to drain to 0% battery. Note that you can charge your phone after it is drained to 0% and still get this trophy.

[top]
My Friends Call Me Monster
Defeat Slappy while wearing the Haunted Mask.

MISSABLE!
To earn this trophy, simply have the Haunted Mask on when you confront Slappy. Since the Haunted mask will kill you if it stays on your face for too long, I advise you to wait until the bookstore is opened.

[top]
Heads, You Lose!
Pry the Haunted Mask off your face.

To earn this trophy, you will need to find the Face Lifter, which is in the area with the massage tables. Put on the Haunted Mask and use the Face Lifter to remove the mask and earn this trophy. Note that you will need to put on the Haunted Mask twice, as you will automatically remove it the first time.

[top]
Be Afraid - Be Very Afraid!
Intimidate a very deadly creature.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
For this trophy, you will need to move through the forest to the giant tree, which is to the right of the area where you confronted the plant creature. Here, you will confront the Beast from the East. The way to defeat him is to show him the Shrunk Head from the crashed moving van by using the Shrunk Head on the Beast from the East. He will then run away and you will unlock this trophy.

[top]
All-Day Nightmare
Finish the game in 300 turns or fewer.

MISSABLE!
See How I Learned to Fly

[top]
How I Learned to Fly
Finish the game in 175 turns or fewer.

MISSABLE!
This is essentially the game's version of a "speed run." Turns refers to how many moves you do, such as moving between areas, taking items and using items.
Here, you will be skipping a lot of things you did in the first run by using your cell phone to call R.L. Stine instead of the lengthy route with the pay phone. You should also only pick up and use essential items.

Be Careful What You Wish Forů
Gather all possible items dropped from the laundry chute.

The laundry chute is located in the bathroom, right next to your bedroom. Simply throw an item into a chute and a different item will come out. Do this about 10-12 times and the 6 items that are stuck in the laundry chute will be gathered, earning you this trophy.
I advise waiting until solving Cronby's riddle to attempt this trophy. This way, you will not accidentally put an item needed for the riddle in the chute.
The items needed for this trophy are:
  • Haunted Mask
  • Puzzle Cube
  • Doll
  • Baby Monitor
  • Toy Plane
  • Bean Bag
The Haunted Mask will always be the first item to come out of the chute, with the other 5 appearing randomly.

[top]
A Shocker on Shock Street
Be proactive and start your laundry.

This is an easy trophy. First, interact with your clothes when you get to your bedroom to pick them up. Next, go to the laundry room, open the washer and use the dirty clothes with the washer to put them in. Finally, close the washer door and use the washer to earn this trophy.

[top]
You're Not Plant Food!
Narrowly escape defeat by wearing a talisman into the woods.

STORY-RELATED AND UNMISSABLE.
For this trophy, you will first need to take the talisman from the kitchen drawer in the haunted house. Next, go back to the forest and move through it to any other area to receive this trophy.
Note that if you do not wear the talisman into the woods, the plant creature you defeated earlier with the weed killer will kill you.

[top]
Invaders from the Big Screen

MISSABLE!
When talking to Aunt Dahlia, you have two options after talking about your day at school: change the subject or keep talking about school. Simply change the subject to talk about plans to see a movie over the weekend to get this trophy.
