[top]About this game

Hoard is an arcade action-strategy video game developed by Big Sandwich Games Inc. It was released in November 2010 in North America on PlayStation Network, and April 4, 2011 for the PC and Mac on Steam.
On the PSN, this game costs $9.99

You play a dragon intent on ransacking a medieval kingdom to gather a giant hoard of glittering gold.

The medieval kingdom simulates its own simple commerce, and the playerís interaction with the kingdom can have a large effect on how much gold the player is able to score. Farms and towns can be destroyed regularly, or left to grow to become prosperous. Generally, the bigger towns, castles, wizard towers and similar structures become, the more valuable they are also better defended. Individual town buildings are also important, as the presence of markets or taverns help determine wagon value, number of thieves produced, and so on.

The player can also earn gold in other ways such as kidnapping princesses for ransom, capturing wizard gems, stopping giants, and scaring villages into offering tribute. The player also can steal gold from other dragons and their hoards using a power-up.

Let no obstacle prevent you from your treasure hoarding!

Treasure mode is the main mode of the game with over 20 maps available. Other modes include Princess Rush (be the first to ransom 15 princesses), Hoard (timed survival), and Co-Op Treasure mode (all dragons share a nest and work together).
Hoard supports 4 players at a time, working competitively (against) or co-operatively (work together).

15 Legendary Wyrm 37,500
  • Each challenge completed will get you 100 xp

  • Each time you pass a goal on a level the first time (bronze, silver, and gold rankings) you get 100 xp each rank surpassed

  • Each playthrough after, you get 50xp for "winning" (surpassing any previously achieved rank on that level)

  • Each time you beat a level against one or more dragons you get 100xp

Best way to grind xp is to play hoard map 3 (Castle and a hard place), and survive at least 2 minutes. Within that 2 minutes, you get 50xp. Each corner has mountains that keep you safe from knights, but the lower left coner is the safest. the other corners have archers and every corner has a few mage towers can still hit you. To ensure you meet the 2 minute minimum, kill the knights that can't reach you and pick up their gold. Anything after 2 minutes is a waste of time, because you will still get 50xp unless you didn't obtain that rank goal yet. Magic towers also rarely shoot at you unless you move around, so decide when the best time is to go collect gold.

Approximately 50 xp/2 minutes or 1500 xp/hour. To save time, press to replay the same stage.

[top]Tips & Strategies

This section is for help completing challenges quickly. I will try to group similar challenges together. Check the Challenges section to review the specific challenge names, and check the Maps section for a visual of the maps I will be talking about in this section. If something needs more explanation, Pm me here.

If a challenge is in red, its a challenge you can skip and still get 90% of the hoard challenges
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Princess related challenges: Princesses come out in carriages from castles. When you destroy the carriage, they will stand there till a dragon grabs them or a knight saves them. Princesses take a while to ransom when brought to a nest, and once they are being ransomed, all knights will flock there like a beacon. Best way to get these trophies is on princess rush.

Best Map: Princess Rush 3- Cross Hitch

Tips:
  • If you hold a princess but stay over water or a mountain, the knights cannot get to you.
  • The first princess available is the one the knights will go after first, unless your really close.
  • If you die and drop a princess in an area that knights cannot go, they will stand there, and ignore other princesses. This is because that first princess will be the priority (unless you get really close)
  • During multiplayer, you can have another player grab a princess and go over water. The knights will swarm that princess and leave the other players alone.
  • If you do get the princess to your nest, you can hover over her to keep other dragons from stealing her. On that same note, you can steal princesses from other nests.
  • Princess carriages pick up loose gold just like carts.
  • Carrying a princess is in addition to what ever gold you can carry, and doesn't slow your flight.
  • When going for a gold rank in a princess rush level, remember your objective: princesses. Skip over gold and killing enemies. Gold ranks are based on how quickly you get the quota, 15 princesses.

Heavy Breather
- Burn a Princess
Conversationalist I - Ransom 10 princesses
Conversationalist II - Ransom 100 princesses
Conversationalist III - Ransom 250 princesses
Money in the Bank - Ransom your first princess
Midas - Earn a gold rating in all single player PRINCESS RUSH levels
Don Juan - Win all single player PRINCESS RUSH levels at least once
Eye on the Prize - Win a PRINCESS RUSH game without ever collecting chests of gold

For these challenges below, i got them all by replaying Princess Rush map 3 (Cross Hitch). You can easily get a gold rating by stealing the princesses from your opponents. The nests are all close together. If you stay at home base and just steal the princess, you can win without upgrading anything.

Not on My Watch - Win a PRINCESS RUSH game without ever losing a princess during ransom
No Sweat
- Win a TREASURE or PRINCESS RUSH level without ever being defeated
Tender Belly - Earn a gold rating on a TREASURE of PRINCESS RUSH level without upgrading ARMOR
Tortoise - Earn a gold rating on a TREASURE of PRINCESS RUSH level without upgrading SPEED
Smoke Puff - Earn a gold rating on a TREASURE of PRINCESS RUSH level without upgrading FIRE
Lightweight - Earn a gold rating on a TREASURE of PRINCESS RUSH level without upgrading CARRY
Untouchable - Win a TREASURE or PRINCESS RUSH level without ever taking damage

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Knight related challenges: Knights come out of castles, and attack dragons when they are too close. If a princess's carriage is opened, all available knights will rush to that princess. Knights cannot go into water or over high mountains. If a knight saves a princess, they will turn into a black knight, which is faster and stronger. A fully upgraded castle will have 2 knights.

Best Map: Treasure 1- Bridge Too Near, Treasure 8- Hungry Hungry, Princess Rush 1- Ready, Set, Princess Rush 6- Lucky Clover, Hoard 3- Castle and a hard place.

Tips:
Using the princess as bait, if you hold a princess and hover over water, you can "farm" knight kills, because they will come to you. Castles look like a grey tower, then upgrade to a larger grey structure. The final change is a castle with red roof.

Knight Slayer I
- Defeat 25 knights
Knight Slayer II - Defeat 250 knights
Knight Slayer III - Defeat 750 knights
Champion - Defeat 25 knights in a single TREASURE or PRINCESS RUSH game
Brick by Brick I - Destroy 5 castles
Brick by Brick II - Destroy 25 castles
Brick by Brick III - Destroy 100 castles
Overthrow - Destroy your first castle
Anti-Royalty Bias - Destroy all castles in a TREASURE level before any royal carriages are produced
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Town Center related challenges: A town center are small communities that pop up around the map. After the main center is built, small buildings will pop up around it. There are 3 different types of smaller buildings. A tavern is a large building that has a green roof. A fair ground looks like one, and breeds more thieves. The last is a brown house community, which has no real effect.

Tips:
  • If a tavern isn't available, destroy the buildings around the town center and wait for it to respawn.
  • It will still count even if the town is tributing to you.
  • Town centers are numerous, so don't worry about destroying them.
Civil Unrest I - Destroy 5 town centers
Civil Unrest II - Destroy 25 town centers
Civil Unrest III - Destroy 100 town centers
Prohibition I - Destroy 5 taverns
Prohibition II - Destroy 25 taverns
Prohibition III - Destroy 100 taverns
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Archers are defenders that come out of town centers. If you don't kill them on a regular basis, there can be 10 around a single town. They are easy to take out in low numbers, but will a full force, they make it harder to dodge arrows. Just dodge the first arrow, then attack them. Once they miss, you have some time to close in.

Best Map: Treasure 2- Bridge too Near, Treasure 3-Lucky Town, Treasure 16- A Case of Fear

Tips:
  • Even if a town is tributing to you, killing archers will count. This is best since they won't attack you.
Flaming Arrow I - Defeat 25 archers
Flaming Arrow II - Defeat 250 archers
Flaming Arrow III - Defeat 750 archers
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thief related challenges: Thieves are those little blue men that come out from town centers and rob your stash. They usually are easy to destroy since they have low health, but if they run into gold on the ground, they will steal that instead. If they steal a full bag (500 gold) they will cancel your multiplayer. You can still kill them before they get to a town to get your money back.

Tips:
  • When a dragon is home, these guys will just wait on the outer rim of your nest. This makes it easier to farm them during multiplayer. Just wait a bit and when a nest has 3 thieves, go there and and kill them.
Sheriff I - Defeat 25 thieves
Sheriff II - Defeat 250 thieves
Sheriff III - Defeat 750 thieves
Red Handed - Destroy your first thief
Charitable - Win a TREASURE level without defeating any thieves
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Giant challenges: Giants are rare on most levels. They usually show up later in the stage, and just walk around. They have alot of health, and gain gold by walking into carts and attacking buildings. They are compared to a ball, going in a direction until you damage them enough. Once they take a certain amount of damage, they will go the opposite way of the attack. Giants show up on any level that has land going off the stage. They just walk onto the level.

Best Map: Tutorial 2- Scare Tactics, Treasure 3- Lucky Town

Bigger They Are I - Defeat 10 giants
Bigger They Are II - Defeat 25 giants
Bigger They Are III - Defeat 2 giants in the same game
Toe to Toe - Defeat your first giant
Clubber - Get smashed by a giant
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mills & crops challenges: Mills are one of the first buildings to pop up, and after that, crops will pop up around it. Mills are a good source of income at the beginning, since they give 500 gold, and crops give 100 gold. Farmer carts come from mills, and they head to towns.

Best Map: Treasure 7- Butterfly

Popcorn I -
Destroy 50 crops
Popcorn II -
Destroy 250 crops
Popcorn III -
Destroy 1000 crops
Burnt Bread I -
Destroy 5 mills
Burnt Bread II -
Destroy 25 mills
Burnt Bread III -
Destroy 100 mills
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Farmer carts, and Wagons: Farmers carts come from mills, and go toward any available towns. Wagons come from towns, and go to other towns. If there is any gold laying around, these can roll over and pick them up.

Best Maps: (Treasure 12- Fertile Crescent) for famer carts, (Treasure 18- Metropolis, Treasure 17- Throwing Star, Treasure 16- A Case of Fear, Treasure 15- Cross-eyed) for wagons

Grist Grinder I - Destroy 25 farmer carts
Grist Grinder II - Destroy 250 farmer carts
Grist Grinder III - Destroy 1000 farmer carts
Barrels of Fun I - Destroy 25 wagons
Barrels of Fun II - Destroy 250 wagons
Barrels of Fun III - Destroy 1000 wagons
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Magic towers & Wizard gems: Magic towers pop up about half way through a level. You know where they will pop up, over magic geysers. These towers shoot projectiles that last the whole map, disappearing only when they go off the map. At first they have slow projectiles, which do alot of damage. They can upgrade to a higher damage projectile if left alive long enough. Once they are destroyed, they drop a gem (red is worth 3000, blue is worth 5000), which drops any gold you had on you and limits your flying speed. Dodge the first projectile, attack, then dodge again. Repeat until dead.

Best Map: Tutorial 2- Scare Tactics, Treasure 20- The Gauntlet

Love the Shinies I - Collect 5 wizard gems
Love the Shinies II - Collect 25 wizard gems
Love the Shinies II - Collect 100 wizard gems
Hoarder - Capture your first wizard gem
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hoard related challenges: Hoard is its own section. This is a survival mode where you try to stay alive as long as possible. ANy gold you collect will be turned into a bonus of time added to your total. To heal, you capture princesses (effect is instant).

Tips:
  • Don't fly around too much, the more you move, the easier it is to find yourself in a corner. That said, don't stay still long enough to be surrounded.
  • The main danger is the magic towers, which are numerous in these hoard stages, and their projectile floats far across the map. If you can, take down the towers early, since the gem they drop is worth alot (effect is instant as soon as you grab it).
  • The next danger is the knights and archers. They will be plentiful, and knights will continue to move towards you. Archers won't move but are hard to dodge since there will be alot of them
  • There is no nest area, so anything you pick up will be instantly collected. Also, as time goes by your dragon will automatically upgrade. When they upgrade, all abilities will go up by 1.
  • Try to sit at a corner, where knights have to bottle neck in a specific area to get to you. That way you can toast them all quickly.
  • Also, destroy any castles or magic towers behind you, since you don't want new units to sneak behind you.
  • Princesses give health, so if you see one alone, and its worth the risk, go for it.
  • Crush magic towers before they become too hard to handle

These challenges are only for taking no damage for a certain amount of time.
Careful
- Take no damage for the first 1 minute of a HOARD MODE level
Lucky - Take no damage for the first 2 minutes of a HOARD MODE level
Sly - Take no damage for the first 3 minutes of a HOARD MODE level
Acrobatic - Take no damage for the first 4 minutes of a HOARD MODE level
Dodger - Take no damage for the first 5 minutes of a HOARD MODE level
Wisp - Take no damage for the first 6 minutes of a HOARD MODE level
Golden Tiger - Earn a gold rating in all single player HOARD levels

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MULTIPLAYER: Multiplayer is its own section. This is where i do most of my grinding. Because you can set the other players controls on the side, you can play without problems.
Tips:

  • You cannot kill a dragon or steal their stash if a dragon is at its nest.
  • Knights will go after the first princess until she is ransomed or a knight has her.
  • Having another dragon hold a princess over water will free your dragon from being pursued by them.
  • To steal gold from other dragons, you need the correct power up. If the power up you need isn't available, pick all power ups and use them so another one will respawn.
  • Tribute carts are best "farmed" here, since you need 2 or more dragons to scare a town, and the other dragons won't attack.
  • To steal tribute carts, have another dragon take over a town and then destroy the carts before they get to their nest.
  • All challenges are only counted by player 1 (any other dragons don't count)

Claw to Grind - Defeat every dragon at least once in a 4-player match
Dominator - Defeat an enemy dragon 3 times without being defeated in return
Easy Mark - Steal at least 10,000 gold from enemy hoards during a match

Bully - Gain tribute status with a town

Fear Me Instead - Destroy 25 enemy tribute carts
Jealous - Destroy 100 enemy tribute carts

Pack Wyrm - Carry the most amount of gold possible
Double Dragon - Defeat two enemy dragons at the same time
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rank related challenges: This is the only rank related challenge. Once you reach rank 12, you get points towards your next rank

Max - Upgrade your hoard to level 12.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Treasure related challenges: Treasure is a mode where the objective is to gather a specific amount of gold.

Tips:
  • When going for a gold rank in a treasure level, keeping that multiplayer alive is key. When princesses and magic towers are built, those take priority over small carts.
  • Remember that for carts to grow in value, you need to leave the mills and towns alone.
  • Kill off any danger before collecting the gold. The sooner you crush a magic tower, the longer you have to fly around safely. Also remember that knights, archers, and the magic towers get harder to deal with if left alone. Kill them off before they get too strong, or avoid them altogether.

Hatchling - Gather more than 100,000 gold on a TREASURE level without upgrading at all
High Security -
Win a TREASURE level without having any gold stolen from your hoard
Let Ďem Roll -
Win a TREASURE level without burning any carts, wagons, or carriages
Task Force -
Defeat 15 thieves in a single TREASURE or PRINCESS RUSH game
Hunter -
Defeat 30 archers in a single TREASURE or PRINCESS RUSH game
Conscientious Objector -
Win a TREASURE level without defeating any knights or archers
Friendly -
Win a four-dragon TREASURE level without defeating any enemy dragons

[top]Roadmap

Step 1: Play the tutorial

This game is simple enough to jump right in and just figure out the controls, but as a precaution just run through the tutorials. There are 2 tutorial levels, both of which you can repeat as often as you like, because these levels do count towards challenges. Just playing these two levels will give you a handful of completed challenges. The tutorial will tell you the controls, but if your a visual person, you can find the controls under the help section from the main screen.

Step 2: Check the challenges and play on!

Just briefly check out the challenges if you didn't already. Then, play any mode you like! I recommend playing each solo level once. This should get you a bunch of points to level up (100 for each goal rank per level). If you have another person to play with, then that will also make the game more enjoyable. Just play through this naturally. Steps 2 and 3 are interchangeable.

Step 3: Grinding and Farming

Now that you have seen each level, there are certain levels that are best when farming for certain things. Check my "map" section to see a visual of the maps, as well as my "tips" area for an outline on where is the best area to farm. Your pretty much now only going for the Hoarding trophies, the last one having completed 90% of the challenges. I personally got 90% before rank 10, 97 out of the total 107 challenges.

I recommend that you do most of your challenges on single player levels. In addition to the xp from completed challenges, you should hopefully get the bronze rank goal, giving you 50 xp. Multiplayer mode doesn't give your xp for your rank goals of that level. Use multiplayer as the last resort for those hard to get challenges.

After you get that last hoarding trophy, keep grinding levels to rank up (which will be slow torture). Check my "rank" area for a option to grind out experience. Steps 2 and 3 are interchangeable.

Enjoy!
