[top]Tips & Strategies

  • ALL TROPHIES ARE IN XMB ORDER
  • The first order of business in the game is to select your difficulty. Unlike other Final Fantasy games, Lightning Returns is a game that is setup for multiple playthroughs to complete everything and features a New Game+ mode once the game has been completed to continue building your character. Unlike the other two games in this series, you CANNOT change the difficulty once the game has begun, so you must choose wisely.
    Easy Mode
    • Unlocked at start of game
    • You will receive basic item drops on this difficulty, nothing overly rare.
    • You receive no penalty for using the Escape Command during combat.
    • When you aren't in battle your health will recharge automatically
    • Extra EP earned from defeated enemies
    • EP powers such as Curaga, cost less to use.
    Normal Mode
    • Unlocked at start of game
    • You will receive Mid Range item drops from defeated enemies.
    • You receive a time penalty for using the Escape Command during combat.
    • There is no automatic Health Regen outside of combat
    Hard Mode
    • Finish the game on either Easy or Normal Mode.
    • You will receive the very best item drops from enemies on this difficulty.
    • The difficulty is maxed out making battles much harder
    • You will receive the same penalties for using the Escape command and have no Health Regen outside of combat.
    • Very little EP earned from defeated enemies

[top] Hoff's Path to Platinum

Playthrough 1
This is a toss up on whether or not to make your first playthrough on Normal or Easy. I personally recommend Normal, as it will make your second playthrough seem so much easier. You should be able to get the majority of the trophies out of the way on the first playthrough regardless of difficulty. If you start on Normal, I recommend waiting until playthrough s to finish off the Aeronite and the Ereshkigal, but if you can beat them on Normal on your first run, more power to you

Playthrough 2
Play this playthrough on Easy. Concentrate on leveling up your most powerful weapons and shields that you acquired in the first playthrough and collecting the remaining Accessories you will need to finish off the Accessory, Weapon and Shield upgrading trophies. Also use this playthrough to collect Soul Seeds on each day to get your Elixir trophy as you will only need 80 Soul Seeds for it. Complete as many sidequests as possible to make it to the 13th day for he Ultimate Lair and to further strengthen Lightning for the battle against the Aeronite and the Ereskigal. With any luck the final battle in the Ultimate Lair should be the final trophy you need for your juicy

The Savior's Descent
Proof of one who has mastered the basics of this world and begun a great journey.

This is a Story Based Trophy

The Prologue is the very opening of the game. If you played the Demo, then you already played the Prologue as it is the same exact level of the game. You will be pursuing Snow through his temple while learning the controls and having tutorials through the game. Simply run to the end of this opening level and the trophy will unlock once you head back to the Ark and the game starts.

The Hope of a Promise
Proof of one who has seen through the dark mysteries that lurked in Luxerion, bringing justice.

This is a Story Based Trophy

Chapter 1-1: An Evil Savior
After watching the opening scene, the sidequest Whither Faith, will begin which is also tied to the first chapter of the story. The sidequest here is on a time limit and you only have until 23:45 to complete the quest otherwise you will fail the sidequest. You can't fail the main quest, but I recommend trying to complete both for double rewards. After accepting the quest, talk to the Inquisitor again to get the first bit of information. Turn to your left and look for a ladder leading up to a scaffolding where you will find the Surveying Man who has a speech bubble above his head indicating you can talk to him. Interact with him to receive the first bit of info for the area. Once you are finished jump over to the next set of scaffolding to talk to the guard for some more valuable info and open the treasure sphere here as well.

Now hop back down and head towards the right side and you will find some papers scattered on the ground near the right side of the Inquisitors location that you can examine for some more clues. Now head around the plaza and talk to every single person with a speech bubble over their heads, including the shop keepers, to get valuable information. When you are done, talk to the guard outside the station, which starts another sidequest, and head up into the station and start talking to everyone you can find with a speech bubble. As soon as you have enough info gathered, Hope will contact you and tell you to go talk to the Inquisitor again and tell him what you've found. Once you do that you will complete the chapter.

Chapter 1-2: In the Shadow of the Heretics
At midnight, which is 0 hour on the clock, Hope will contact you to look for a group of people that look out of place as you continue your investigation. Head back to the main plaza at North Gate and a group of Fanatics will appear from the right side of the area. Stay behind cover and follow them from a distance. If they happen to see you, they will charge you and you will have to fight a group of Fanatics. If you happen to lose that battle, the Fanatics will respawn back at the beginning of the area. Continue following them towards the Graveyard and watch the cutscene at the telephone booth to complete the chapter.

Chapter 1-3: Find the Code
For your next mission you will need to find the 4 digits of the code that the Heretics use to get into the graveyard. This quest won't be available until 6:00 on day 2, so if you've already finished the first two chapters and it's day 1 still, i suggest roaming around and working on side missions until you reach the second day. The first 3 codes can all be found around the city during the main parts of the day, but the final part of the code is located in the Warren which means you will need to wait for the gate to be open between midnight and 6 AM. I suggest using this day to work on several of the side missions around town as it won't take you very long to find the first three numbers.
  1. From North Station, head to out of the door that leads towards the graveyard and take a left at the food vendors. Head up the stairs and immediately turn left. Follow this path around the building as the small walkway overlooks the lake and you will find the first number on the side of the building.
  2. Now head back to the main path and take a left. Look for an alleyway about halfway through this courtyard on the left side of the area that leads up some stairs to another area. Take a right at the top of the stairs and follow this new path and you will find the second number on a wall on the right side of this main walkway.
  3. Now continue down this same path and head up the stairs to get back to the main walkway. Take a left and head through the area with Baird as you continue down the walkway. Head up the stairs at the end and turn right at the top of the stairs. Now head into this main walkway, and you can find the third number in the upper right hand corner of this area.
  4. Now head all the way back to North Station around midnight. Head into the station and take your first right to find the time gate open to the Warrens. Follow the path as it heads down the walkway and down some stairs until you reach the main square with the vendors. From here, head to the back left corner of the area and you will find this final number near the Oracle Drive.

Chapter 1-4: Find the Code
Now stock up on Potions and Phoenix Downs and head to the phone booth near the Graveyard, as it should still be between Midnight and 6AM, and use the code you found to open the gate to the Graveyard. Inside there is only one path to follow so you shouldn't get lost as you head to the end of the graveyard to find the sacrifice taking place. Inside the graveyard are several very strong monsters that will spawn for this early of a stage in your character's abilities so I recommend avoiding most of them to avoid costing yourself time penalties. Once you reach the back of the area, you will watch a cutscene and the chapter will end. Be sure to pick up the Crest of Etro on the ground near the sacrifice altar before you leave the graveyard.

Chapter 1-5: Hunter in Light and Shadow
Now get your health back to max, and restock your Potions and Phoenix Downs and head back to the Warrens as long as you are before 6AM. Head to the waypoint on your map, and use the Crest of Etro to open the locked gate to the Heretics camp and proceed inside. In here you will need to follow the upper walkway as you pursue Noel to the final boss battle of the first chapter.

Noel Kreiss
Noel is the first main battle of the game, and can be a huge pain in the ass if you are playing on Normal with your lower level. As you prepare for this battle, be sure to equip items that give you a boost to Wind Elemental attacks as Noel uses these quite a bit and he is resistant to Wind Based attacks as well. Noel is weak against Lightning Elemental Attacks so equip your Schema's with Thunder and Thundara and even Sparkstrike if you have it available. During the battle, Noel will perform several Wind Based attacks using Aero spells and he will combine those with several physical attacks including Javelin. Do your best to be somewhat aggressive with your Thunder attacks as you try to build up his Stagger gauge and be sure to use your Guard when he uses his physical attacks to not only defend yourself but to also build up the Stagger Gauge to help you in this battle. Once you have pushed him into Stagger, use your strongest physical attacks and keep an eye on the Attack button as you can Launch him if you can drive up the Stagger Gauge enough. If you can launch him, this is the perfect time to deal some major damage while he is defenseless and is also a great time for the Overclock ability. When you see Noel perform his ATB Charge technique, be prepared to Guard as he will follow it with several physical attacks. Once you reach the halfway point he will start to cast stronger attacks such as Meteor Javelin so try to save the majority of your Potions and Phoenix Downs for the final stages of the battle. Other than that and a couple of other attacks and buffing abilities the remainder of the battle will be about the same until you finally take him down.

Hope at the Edge of Despair
Proof of one who has stood upon the stage in glittering Yusnaan, bringing peace to the Patron.

This is a Story Based Trophy

Chapter 2-1: The Great Break In
When you first arrive in Yusnaan, your first task should be to work on the main story mission of the game. Completing the main story mission will unlock several of the side missions in the area so you might as well work on the main story first. Head all the way to the main gates for the Augur's Quarter and you can find some tourists outside that you can converse with. After talking to the Knowledgeable Tourist, head back the way you came and look for the Tour Guide down the first set of stairs dressed in pink with a drum and other musical instruments attached to him. You will need to purchase the Sneaking In Special Ticket for 2,000 gil to continue the main story mission. After purchasing the ticket, you will need to head to the Industrial Area and look for the Gatekeeper by 18:00 to continue the mission. You will HAVE to get there on time, if you are late you won't be able to continue the main story until the next day. I recommend getting there early and when you talk to the Gatekeeper you can advance the time forward to start the mission. If you are cutting the time close, remember to use Chronostasis to give yourself enough time to get there.

Once inside, the path you need to follow is very linear. You will encounter a very healthy dose of enemies, but nothing too powerful on your way through the Industrial Area until you finally reach a point where a cutscene will take place and you will be thrust into a battle with a Cyclops.

Cyclops
The Cyclops can be a huge pain in the ass in the early stages of the game. They are fairly powerful, have a decent amount of health and have very strong physical attacks that can take down a large chunk of your health if you don't Guard in time. In addition to that, once you get half their health down they go into Rage Mode and their attacks get more powerful. Personally I recommend just avoiding them as they aren't worth the trouble fighting them for the little reward you get. UNFORTUNATELY, you have to fight this Cyclops.

All of the Cyclops' attacks are physical attacks so update your Schema with equipment to give your defense boosts against physical attacks before you start the fight. The Cyclops isn't weak against any particular element so there is no need to stack any specific type, BUT the Cyclops can be Poisoned if you have visited the Dead Dunes already and have access to the magic. Your best bet is to try and get him to Stagger with physical attacks as quickly as possible, THEN overclock him and use your most powerful physical attacks to finish him off as quickly as possible. If you have access to DeBrave I also recommend adding this into your Schema as well, BUT if you don't using the Brave Thief ability will help out even more as you can steal his Brave for your own use.

After the battle with the Cyclops, you will find yourself in a warehouse filled with several low level enemies. Continue through the warehouse until you get near the end and you will find several piles of skeletons at the next waypoint. Here you will find the ID card which is what you will need to proceed through this main mission. Head up the stairs, and head through the underground passage until you reach the locked gate. Use the ID card on the locked gate and continue through the tunnel until you reach the ladder at the end. head up the ladder, and then up the steps and you will be in the area where you found the Tour Guide earlier in the mission. From here head back to Augur's Gate and use the ID card to open the gates and the chapter will end.

Chapter 2-2: The Legend of the Savior
Head inside the Augur Gates to get your first taste of Augur's Quarter. Here you will find they are preparing for a big show and this area will have several shops and a few side missions you can complete. Head up the stairs to the right of the entrance to find the Director to get this main story mission underway. He is going to ask you to find the Fireworks Boss so you can create a bigger explosion for the show he has planned. Head back down to the lower area, and head to the opposite side of the statue to find the Fireworks Boss and he will tell you where to find more Fireworks. You will now have to try and make it to the three areas he tells you about by a certain time to get the fireworks from the Pyrotechnicians BEFORE they can launch them off for the nightly festivities. You will need to find 10 Fireworks to continue the quest and you can receive a total of 12 from the Pyrotechnicians. Leave the Augur's Quarter, and head down the stairs towards where you found the Tour Guide from the previous chapter and in this same area you will find a small alley that leads behind the buildings. In this alley is a poster on the wall that you can examine that gives you a special password to say to the various Chocobo Girls around town. Each time you find one and converse with them, they will also give you a firework. If you still need some fireworks, look for Funicula on the Stairs leading to the Slaughterhouse from Glutton's Quarter and complete the Fireworks for a Steal side quest for him to get the remaining fireworks you need. If you need help on what to do for this mission, please see the Angel of Salvation trophy below. Once you have all 10 of the fireworks, head back to the Fireworks Boss, deliver the fireworks to him, then head back to the Director for your next task.

This next part of the chapter, will have you complete a Side Mission, so you will get a nice stat boost while working on the main mission in addition to completing the chapter. Head to the Slaughterhouse and speak with Zoe, who is in the booth to the right of the entrance to start the Side Mission. You will now have to make it through three rounds of battle in the Slaughterhouse to win the special garb for the show. The first and second battles will be no problem as it is a pack of Gremlins and an Anubys. The third battle is a little more challenging as you will face a Zaltys.

Zaltys
The Zaltys is a Fire based version of a Zomok that you have more then likely already encountered. He will perform all the same attacks, with the exception that he replaces the Heavenly Storm elemental attack with Fire Burst attack. Equip your Schema with defenses against Fire based magic for extra protection and equip your Schema with Ice Elemental magic attacks as this is the Zaltys' weakness. The Zaltys is also susceptible to Poison if you have access to the spell already, which can help make the battle faster. He has a decent amount of HP, but you can take down a decent amount of health from him by using your strongest attacks while he is staggered.

Once you have finished your battle with the Zaltys, you will receive the Midnight Mauve garb. Perform any healing you need to do, and restock your Recovery Items, then equip Midnight Mauve as your main Schema and return to the Director to continue the story

Chapter 2-3: A Solitary Patron
Once you have knocked down the Statue, you will now be outside the Patron's Palace. In here you will fight most of the same enemies you have encountered, and a few new ones. I personally recommend avoiding the Cyclopses as often as possible as they are a pain and can cut into your Recovery Items. Head to the left and into the Patron's Palace and you will find yourself in a familiar area as you will be replaying most of what you played in the Prologue when the game started. There will be several Chaos Infusion clouds throughout the Palace, and the Cyclopses can become quite deadly inside these at this stage in your playthrough, so you should definitely avoid these battles as much as possible. Once you have passed the area where the Prologue ended, continue through the Palace picking up any various Spheres you can find along the way, until you can reach the inner area of the Palace where you will find Snow waiting for you.

Snow Villiers
Snow, much like Noel can be a pain in the ass. He is a L'Cie and is quite powerful for this battle. Snow is going to be using Ice elemental attacks against you as well as very powerful physical combos, so make sure you have a strong Guard setup in your Schema and make sure you equip accessories that will protect you against Ice magic. Setup Fire Elemental magic attacks in your Schema as this is his weakness and if you have it available, add Poison to your schema as well for extra damage. If you have the Sickle of the Faithful, I recommend equipping this for the Brave Thief and Faith Thief special attacks. The Midnight Mauve garb you received during this set of missions is especially helpful in this battle with its Fire Based magic abilities.

Use simple attacks on Snow, while using your guard against his base attacks as you wait for him to use his Chaos Charge ability. When you see him start to use this, this is the time to unleash your Fire Magic on him to get him to a quick stagger. Once you get him to a stagger, change to your most powerful physical attacks and use Overclock to work on his health bar as all your attacks will increase during the stagger.

When you get Snow halfway down in his health he will start using more powerful attacks, as well as the very annoying Cloak of Chaos which will give him Protect and Veil magic protection. While he has Veil cast, you will need to wait for the effect to go away before you can work on his stagger to continue the battle. Continue this same method until you beat Snow's pansy ass to the ground.

The Mystery of the Holy Clavis
Proof of one who has made it through the Dead Dunes to find ancient treasure.

This is a Story Based Trophy

Chapter 3-1: Bandits of the Desert
When you first arrive in the Dead Dunes, you will be able to roam around the majority of the area, BUT there will be several areas that will be blocked off by severe sandstorms. These sandstorms can be disabled by using a Pilgrim's Crux, which looks like a blue cross, on a nearby panel that only the Savior can activate. Your first task for this area, is to make it to the only establishment in the Dead Dunes, which is a bandit camp.

Activate the Dead Dunes Station Cactuar Statue and then head North into the desert. Eventually you will come to a structure in the middle of the desert with a path leading down. Don't bother exploring down here yet as it will be blocked off for you. Activate the Temple Ruins North Gate Cactuar Statue that sits outside here and continue North.

Almost immediately North, you will find a path that leads off to the left side of the area and you will find the Near God's Wrath Cactuar Statue and the first Sandstorm that you can't get around. From here head to the left away from the sandstorm and you will come to an area where the path splits and you can go left, which takes you back to the sandbox, or you can continue straight on either a lower path or on an upper path. Continue along the upper path all the way to the end and you will find a floating Blue Cross which you need to grab. This is your first Pilgrim's Crux.

Now drop down to the lower path, avoid the Earth Eaters, as they aren't worth the grind of a battle to kill them, and take the road to the north until you reach the Dry Floodlands Temple Entrance. Activate the Dry Floodlands Cactuar Statue that is located here, and look to your right of the Temple entrance to see a path heading up the hill. Head up this way and you will find a sandstorm with a Cactair stuck in side of it. Now this next part below is completely optional at this point, BUT I recommend doing it while you're here so you don't have to backtrack later to complete other quests.

FIRST set up your Schemas for the fight you are about to enter as the Cactair is a fast little bugger and as soon as you free him he will rush at you. Once you are ready, use the Pilgrim's Crux to deactivate the sandstorm and start your battle with the Cactair.

Cactair
The Cactair battle isn't hard in the slightest bit, he's just a pain. First thing you need to to is properly set up your Schema. I recommend removing all Ice elemental attacks from all of your equipped Schemas before the battle. The Cactair can absorb Ice based attacks, and nothing is more annoying than rapidly switching Schemas and accidentally hitting him with an Ice magic and watching him regain the majority of his health Cactair only has 200 HP but don't get too excited when you use your Libra on him and find this out, because no matter what attacks you use on him you can only take down 1 HP of damage on him with each attack. The majority of your magic is pretty meh in this battle except Aeroga which will hit him multiple times, if you happen to get him to sit still long enough when you cast it. I personally recommend equipping Quick Slash Lv1 into all three Schemas for this battle. There is no point in going with a more powerful version as it won't matter for the damage you deal and the lowest version will cost the least amount of AP allowing you to use it several times before needing to switch to a different Schema. If you can equip a double bladed weapon with Quick Slash it will go even faster as you will hit him twice per attack. Also be sure to add a Guard ability to each of your Schemas to protect against his attacks. His attacks aren't overly strong and are easily guarded against. Once he dies you will receive a quest item you will need for Sazh's storyline later in the game.

Once the Cactair is defeated, head all the way to the end of this path until you reach the Oasis Lighthouse. Here you will find an EP Sphere, a side quest and most importantly, three parts of Bhakti's Oil which you will need for a side mission later.

Now continue back the other way and when you reach the area where the Cactair was, continue down the hill in front of you until you can head right and further into the Desert. in this next area, you will find a merchant stand so you can replenish your Recovery Items which you will most likely need to do at this point. Continue down the path and you will eventually see a road leading up the mountains on the right hand side. This is the path that leads to Ruffian. Head into Ruffian and look around, but don't bother wasting too much time as they wont be overly friendly until you complete more of the main missions. Head into the main building and look for Adonis who will be down the hallways on the right side to complete the first part of this mission and start the next mission.

Chapter 3-2: Aspiring Bandit
Now head back outside the main building and activate the Ruffian Cactuar Statue that is right outside the entrance. Use the statue to teleport to the Near God's Wrath Cactuar Statue that you activated earlier and head towards the sandstorm to start the battle with the Gurangatch.

Gurangatch
The Gurangatch isn't overly strong as long as you know HOW to defeat him. He has very strong defensive abilities as long as he has his Carapace around him so you will need to get him to Stagger to come out of his shell. Don't even bother using physical attacks on him in the beginning. Gurangatch has no elemental weaknesses so there is no benefit of using any specific spells to get him to Stagger, but I personally think Thunder works the best. As soon as you get him to stagger, he will lose his Carapace and this is the time to unleash your strongest Physical attacks to take him down before he regenerates his Carapace. If you really want to make it quick, use an Overclock to finish him off.

As soon as he dies there will be a short cinematic with the Pilgrim's Crux. Once it ends, head back to Ruffian and find Adonis to end the chapter

Chapter 3-3: Where the Clavis Lies
After gaining your new companion, warp back to the Dead Dunes Station Cactuar Statue and restock all your recovery items. Now head away from the station to the right side and head north until you reach the ocean. Follow the ocean all the way to the ruins at the waypoint marker and head inside. This next chapter involves navigating through the Temple Ruins to get to the waypoint marker. The way is very straightforward to get there with some collectibles along the way. Be sure to pick up any Pilgrim's Cruxes that you come across as you move through the temple as you will need these later to open doors. The doors these open will almost always lead outside to a temple entrance and you should take the time to activate the Cactuar Statues that are outside these entrances for easier navigation later. Inside the temple you will find a large amount of Skeletons roaming around that are a huge pain to kill. This is the only place they spawn though and there are corresponding side missions and Canvas of Prayer missions. You will also find skeleton statues that can be broken inside the Temple. These will often give you collectibles, BUT sometimes there will be a skeleton waiting inside to ambush you.

The temple also has time activated doors in some of the sections. These operate the same as the time activated gates in Luxerion. The biggest difference being that most of these can be moved around to still get the goods behind them by using the opposite door. Also make sure you find Bhakti while roaming through the temple in one of the side rooms on the 3rd floor and quickly complete his side mission if you collected the Bhakti Oil in the beginning of the chapter. Once you finally reach the waypoint marker, examine the device to prompt a cutscene and the chapter will end.

Chapter 3-4: Murals of the Gods
You are going to need three Pilgrim's Cruxes to complete the next chapter of the game. If you don't have three, head back to Ruffian and you can find a new shop inside the main building where you can purchase these from the Crux Hunter.
  • Shrine of the Tablet: Dry Floodlands
Once you are ready, warp to the Dry Floodlands Cactuar Statue and head inside the Shrine. Use your Pilgrim's Crux on the door, then head all the way to the end of the passage to obtain the first piece of the tablet. Once you have the tablet, a bunch of Skeleton Statues will suddenly appear in the passageway as you head back out of each shrine. In addition to the statues, you will also get ambushed by random spawning Skeletons that will attack in groups of 2-3 so you must fight your way back out of the area.
  • Shrine of the Tablet: Atomos's Sands
Once you reach the desert again, head North towards the entrance to Ruffian. Restock your Recovery Items at the vendor along the way, and when you get to the path that branches off to go to Ruffian, head north and follow the mountain on your left side until you reach this next shrine. The entrance to this shrine is located in the rock that is in the middle of the path. Activate the Atomos Sands Cactuar Statue and head inside the Shrine. Inside follow the same procedure to gain the tablet as you did on the previous shrine and then fight your way back out from the Skeleton ambush.
  • Shrine of the Tablet: Grave of the Colossi
Once you reach the outside, head to your right and then take another right to follow the edge of the rock as it heads back around the main path and you should see a narrow path in front of you that leads into the desert. Follow this path and when the road branches off make sure you take a left and you will come to this next shrine. Activate the Grave of the Colossi Cactuar Statue and head inside the final Shrine to collect the final tablet

Now teleport back to the Sacred Gate Cactuar Statue and head back through the temple to the way point where you found the first mural. Interact with the pedestal in the room, watch the cutscene, then grab the piece of crux that's left behind on the pedestal.
Now head to the other two murals that will be marked on your map as waypoints on the 4th and 5th floors of the Temple to collect the final two pieces of Crux which will conclude this part of the chapter.

Chapter 3-5: The Holy Clavis
Once you have the final pieces, warp back to the Sacred Gate Cactuar Statue and use the Saint's Crux to open the main gate to the Clavis. Before you go in, use the Cactuar to fast travel back to Dead Dunes Station or Ruffian and restock your Recovery Item inventory. Then prepare your Schemas for the next battle and when you are ready, head into the room with the Clavis to face the final monster for this area.

Grendel
Grendel is weak against Wind Elemental attacks so equip the Aerora and Aero spells into all your Schemas. If you have the Sickle of the Faithful, equip it here for the Bravery Thief ability as Grendel will cast it on himself along with Faith, both of which can be stolen from him. Any accessories you have that will protect you against Poison should be equipped as well. If you have DeProtect and DeFaith I would recommend these as well to shorten the battle. Grendel will start the fight using a Protective Barrier which will prevent you from doing any real damage on him. Because of this, your goal should be to get Grendel to Stagger with your wind spells. Most of his attacks are average when it comes to damage to you, BUT he will hit you with several status ailments if they connect so it is best to try and block them at all times. His deadliest spell is Hellkraft which can cause massive damage and you should start guarding as soon as you see him start to cast it just to prevent him from hitting on a mistimed guard.

Once you get him to the first stagger, continue to pour it on him to get him to a second stagger which will temporarily disable him and allow you to hit him with massive damage. Once you get him to second stagger, hit him with a DeProtect, and use this time to use your Overclock on him and turn to your strongest attacks to try and take him down before the stagger expires for a quick victory. If he gets up from his stagger, he will cast several status buffs on himself along with a reapplication of the Protective Barrier. Use your Sickle to steal what you can, then hit him with a DeFaith and go to town on him with your Aero spells until he staggers and falls.

An Appetite for Chaos
Proof of one who has visited the temple that towers over the Wildlands and touched the great Chaos.

This is a Story Based Trophy

Chapter 4-1: The Angel of Valhalla
After hopping off the monorail the first time you visit The Wildlands, watch the cutscene , then head over to Canopus Farms, which is down the main path to the right. Once you get there, look for Dr. Ghysal who is in the house on the left side of the town just outside his doorway. He will tell you about the Angel of Valhalla. After talking to him, turn around and look for a group of people milling around near the Traveling Adventurer shop to gain more info on where you might find this elusive Chocobo. Once you have been told about the Chocobo Eater in the Ruins, a new way point marker will be added to your map. Stock up on Recovery Items if you need to at the shop, then head out of town by using the path to the left of the Inn.

From where the path hits the grasslands, just continue straight until you come to the edge of the mountains and the follow the path that leads into them. You will come across some Chocobo Knights riding around on the next path that leads into the ruins and you will encounter a horde of Miniflan throughout this area. The Miniflan are very weak against lightning so equip Thundara or Thundaga into your Schemas and you will take them out quickly. Eventually you will come to a clearing where you will see the white Chocobo on the ground with a large green monster attacking him. Time to step in and take down the Chocobo Eater.

Chocobo Eater
This battle will be the easiest of the battles against the Chocobo Eaters as this Chocobo Eater has already been weakened in battle. The Chocobo Eater isn't weak against any of the elements, BUT it has a resistance against Fire and Ice elemental magic so it's best to stick with Lightning and Wind magic to build up your Staggers. The Chocobo Eater CAN cause massive damage with its attacks so pay attention and prepare either a Heavy Guard or a Steelguard to protect yourself, especially against his Chomp attack. The best way to finish off this particular Chocobo, is to get him to first Stagger, then activate your Overclock and go to town on him with your strongest Physical attacks, before he has a chance to recover and cast his Buffs on himself to protect himself. If you are finding that you are having trouble, he can also be poisoned, BUT the poison won't stick on him very long before it wears off.

Once you finish off the Chocobo Eater, Dr. Ghysal will appear with some people from town and they will load up the Chocobo to take back to town to help him recover. Head back to town and talk to Dr. Ghysal and he will give you some Ghysal Greens to feed to the Chocobo. After you have fed him the greens the first mission will be finished.

Chapter 4-2: Healing an Angel
This chapter focuses solely around healing the White Chocobo. To finish this chapter you will need to get your Chocobo to the second healing level of 250 healing points.

For more detailed information on healing your Chocobo please see The Chocobo's Savior trophy below

Chapter 4-3: Where Chaos Sleeps
Once your Chocobo can fly, you will start the final mission for this area. Now I recommend doing this AFTER you have completed the Dead Dunes missions and possibly even after completing Sazh's side mission for this area as Caius is very powerful. Once you are ready head to Jagd Village and in the back of the village, fly over the gap to the Rocky Crag area of the Wildlands. Once you reach this area, head out to the main path and take a right. Watch out for the Aster Protoflorians as they can be a pain, especially inside the Chaos Clouds, and in the next area take a left and head into the mountains. Follow this new path and you will reach Poltae, a small village deep in the mountains where you will find the Temple of the Goddess. Head through town and take a left to find a road that leads up the mountainside and at the top you will find a priest that will talk to you about reaching the temple. You will now need to glide to each ledge until you reach the end of the path. Hop off your Chocobo and head up the ladder and you will find the Temple.

After the cutscene, start to head up the rubble as you make your way into the Temple. You will need to make your way to the top of the Temple and this path is very staightforward. Along the way, you will encounter several Yeuls that you can talk to that will give you advice and help you by adding new paths for you to reach you next level in the Temple as you make you way back up to the top. The majority of the enemies that you will encounter are Ectopuddings, which can be easily defeated with Ice Magic as they are very weak against it, however, they use Firaga as their standard spells and this can cause massive damage to you, especially when you are facing more than one of them and they both use it.

Once you get all the way to the top, in the hallway just before you face Caius, you can backtrack and drop all the way down to the lower level and exit the Temple to restock on your Recovery Items before the battle with Caius. Once you reenter the temple, you will find a Yeul just inside the entrance that will transport you directly to the hallway just before Caius so you won't need to traverse the entire tower again.

Caius Ballad
First let me say this, Caius is a huge asshat. If you had the joy of facing him in FFXIII-2 you already know what I'm talking about. If you haven't you will soon understand why I say that. Now Caius has less HP than the previous end of level bosses that you have faced, BUT he makes up for it by going on the all out offensive on you with high powered, very annoying attacks. You need to set up your schemas with a more offensive mindset as you will want to end the battle as quickly as possible.

Caius DOESN'T have any elemental weaknesses, so you don't need to set up your Schemas with any of them in mind. You can hit Caius with Poison and Slow, which can help during the battle, and I also recommend bringing along DeProtect to help once you finally get him to Stagger. I also recommend equipping your Sickle of the Faithful and a Heavy Attack to one of your Schemas for the Bravery and Faith Stealing abilities as Caius will use this on himself.

Once the battle starts, Caius will start the battle by summoning Bahamut Try and time your guard on this to get yourself a Perfect Guard, but make sure you at least guard against it as it can cause major damage. After that first attack, he will turn to his Commando role and start attacking with Physical Attacks. During this first stage of attacks, you can only raise his stagger gauge with physical attacks. I recommend trying to get poison and slow to stick on him during this first stage. After a large series of attacks, he will change up his attacks and switch to Ravager mode and start using magic on you. As soon as he does this lay into him with your magic until you get him to stagger. Once he hits Stagger, activate your Overclock and go to town on him to try and finish him with a couple Overclocks in one Stagger.

Once he recovers, he will cast a pile of buffs on himself. This is the time to use your Thief skills to steal his Brave and Faith. Continue with the same pattern of attacks while blocking his major spells until he falls.

A Legend from Times Past
Proof of the true savior, who overthrew even the god of light to lead the people to a new world.

The final day, puts you in the Temple square in Luxerion for the push for the final battle. There are vendors outside to allow you to purchase new recovery items for the final push as well as a Garb Store, a Forge and a Sorcery Shop. After preparing, head into the Temple and head all the way to the end of the Walkway for a cutscene to start. Once the cutscene ends you will be underneath the temple in the passageway to reach the main room to stop the ceremony. Along the way, you will be getting attacked by several high level enemies. I recommend avoiding as many of them as possible to not run out of Recovery Items as they are all high level enemies.

Once you get to the main room, you will watch a cutscene with Vanille for the end final ritual for the game. Once it is over, you will have the choice to head into the back room to face off against Bhunivelze for the final battle of the game. Mog will be sitting right outside the door to face Bhunivelze should you need Recovery Items or if you need to Synthesize new abilities.

BEFORE YOU HEAD INTO THE FINAL BATTLE, you have the opportunity to head into the four side room Shrines to face a Challenge. Completing each challenge will grant you one of the most powerful magic spells in the game. If you complete all four of the challenges you will receive the Ultima Weapon and Ultima Shield for the final battle. Unfortunately these don't carry over to the NG+ playthrough, BUT I recommend getting these for the final battle as they have incredible stat boosts. For more help with these Shrines please see the Crimson Rebirth.

Bhunivelze
The fight against Bhunivelze isn't that tough as long as you know what to expect. You are going to to face four different forms of Bhunivelze in this battle and you will face them all consecutively without a chance to change things up or restock. Don't bother with Poison or Slow for this final battle, instead, focus on having all 3 of your Schemas setup for a strong Physical attack and a continuous push on the Stagger Wave. I recommend setting two of your Schemas with lower level magic spells such as an Aerora on one and a Thunder on the other. Aerora is especially useful as it will hit Bhunivelze repeatedly with each attack instead of just once for a big damage attack. On the third Schema I recommend a spell such as Ruin as it will not only help stabilize your stagger gauge so it doesn't drop as fast, but it will also slightly increase the stagger gauge at the same time. I would have Deprotect and Defaith set up as your status ailments to cast on Bhunivelze and have two strong attacks such as Attack Lv3-4 with a strong weapon such as Ultima Weapon or Chaos Blade and Artemis Arrows with another strong weapon such as Masamune. Also make sure to set up some strong Guards such as Steelguard on a couple of the Schemas as you will need these. Once you are ready, start the battle.
  • First Form: The beginning of the battle will start with Bhunivelze casting Doom on you, making it so you must go on the offensive to finish him off in time. His first form only has 600,000 HP so he isn't too terribly difficult to take down. Use your Magic to get him to Stagger while guarding against his attacks, and once he staggers hit him with a Deprotect. By now your Artemis' Arrows should be charge enough for a few hits so take this opportunity to take off the majority of his health. Once you are out of AP, change to your secondary physical attack and continue until his stagger ends. He will be most of the way down by now, so I recommend recasting Deprotect and going with an all Physical attack on him while gaurding his attacks to finish him off.
  • Second Form: The Second form of this battle is more of the same, with the exception that he will add his Genethliac Hymn attack to this stage. This attack will have him charging up for a very powerful attack. If you can get him to stagger during this charging it will save you some HP when he attacks, BUT I found that it is fairly hard to get him to stagger during this charge so I recommend just saving your AP for his final attack from this charge so you can Guard against it. Use the same strategy in this form for attack as you did in the first to take him down.
  • Third Form: In the 3rd form, Bhunivelze will add in some very strong physical slash attacks that can interrupt your attacks and launch you airborne. While you are in the air, he will combo his attacks together which can lead to you losing a massive amount of HP if not all of your HP in a single combo. Get him with DeProtect and move in close and get in some hits in between guarding against his attacks. He can take down a lot of your HP and recovery items during this stage, so it is best to be on a little less offensive onslaught to properly guard against his physical attacks.
  • Final Form: The Final Form against Bhunivelze is a pain. He takes basically no damage and has 1,000,000 HP. This entire form is to see if you can get him to Stagger. Sounds easy, but his Stagger gauge moves a ton slower in this form compared to the other three forms. Switch back and forth between your Aerora, Thunder and Ruin while keeping your Guard up against his stronger attacks. If you have Overclock, use it during his Heartless Angel attack and launch an all out assault with magic to try and get him to stagger. Make sure you guard when the camera gets close to Lightning as if you don't guard this attack it will reduce you to 1 HP. Once you finally get him to Stagger, launch an all out offensive on him as you will get a 500% attack bonus on him and he should fall withing the first stagger. If you have any overclock left, use it here just to be sure he falls.

Beyond Thirteen
Proof of making the impossible possible by using Eradia to bring the world a 14th day.

To reach the 13th day in the game, need to finish as many side quests and main quests before you run out of time as possible. This is actually quite a bit easier than it sounds. If you can finish all 5 of the main area missions and the majority of the side missions, you will unlock the 13th day. The 13th day, won't be unlocked UNTIL the end of the 12th day, so when the 11th day ends, don't be worried when the tree doesn't bloom anymore and Lightning mentions it's the final day and she can't do anything else to extend the time. As soon as the 13th and 14th day unlock at the end of day 12 this trophy will unlock.

A Father, a Son and a Chocobo
Proof of helping a father and son reunite, bringing back a smile that seemed long lost.

This is the only main area side mission in the game. You will need to wait until after you have healed your Chocobo to level 2 so he can fly before you can begin this side mission so wait until that point, and once you are ready fast travel to the Wildlands Station. Exit out of the Wildlands Station and head left down the main road away from Canopus Farms. Head through the narrow canyon in the mountain towards the Research Camp location and when you come to the Eremite Plains, use your Chocobo to float from plateau to plateau until you reach the other side of the valley. Here you will find a crash site from an airship and you will find a small shack with a ladder leading up to it. Watch the cutscene with Sazh and the side mission will begin. you will need find 5 pieces of Dajh to complete this side mission to unlock this trophy.
  • Fragment of Mischief: As soon as the cutscene ends, a chocobo chick will appear at the door and get your attention. Follow her outside, and look to the left to find a treasure sphere that has appeared. Open it up to find this and watch a tutorial.
  • Fragment of Smiles: Now head to Chocolina at the station, and a new Canvas of Prayers mission will have appeared. Accept the Key to Her Heart side mission, then head to Aryas Village. Once you get to Aryas Village, head up the hill leading out of town on the other side of town, and climb up the ladder to the passageway above. Head towards the locked door and you will find a treasure sphere with the Beloved's Gift key item. Head back to Chocolina to turn it in and receive this.
  • Fragment of Radiance: You will need two things to complete this next part. A Soul Seed AND the Moogle Fragment that you receive from completing the Peace and Quiet Kupo side mission in the Moogle Village. If you haven't completed this yet, refer to the Angel of Salvation trophy below to find out exactly what you need to do. Once you have both, find any of the Soul Seed Traders and give them the Seed. They will tell you about the Fragment and after listening to the story you will receive a prompt to give them the item.
  • Fragment of Courage: Now head to the Slaughterhouse between 19:00 and 03:00. Talk to Zoe and she will offer you a special match against a Zaltys Brimstone. Defeat him and you will receive this.
    Zaltys Brimstone
The Zaltys Brimstone is a Fire based version of a Zomok that you have more then likely already encountered.
  • Fragment of Kindness: You SHOULD already have the final piece from defeating the Cactair in the Dead Dunes. If not look at the main story missions above to find him as he will give you this as a reward for defeating him.

Once you have all 5 pieces, return to Sazh and watch a cutscene. once the cutscene ends, the trophy will unlock

Deliverer of Salvation
Proof of clearing 5 side quests. It is a fine beginning, but the journey is still long.

Side missions are the MOST important part of Lightning Returns. The regular leveling system has been removed from Lightning Returns and no the only way to level up your character is by completing side missions. The side missions will give you boosts to Health, Strength, Magic and other stats depending on the difficulty level of the side mission that you complete. You will also unlock weapons, adornments, shields and accessories for completing the side missions as well.

This trophy will unlock once you have completed your first 5 Side Missions for the game. For a complete list of Side Missions as well as tips on how to complete them, please see the Angel of Salvation trophy below.

Angel of Salvation
Proof of clearing 25 side quests. It is a great feat to lead so many souls to salvation.

In addition to the boosts to your character for finishing Side Missions, you will receive a certain amount of Eradia for each side mission you complete in the game. The amount you receive will vary depending on the difficulty level of the side mission that you complete. The Eradia will be given to the Tree of Life at the end of each day and the more Eradia you can feed to the tree, the longer you can extend your playthrough by adding more days until the end. It is impossible to complete all the side missions before the end of the playthrough and that is the way the game is set up. You will need to decide which missions you want to finish based on how long you have in the game and how long it will take to complete each mission. For this trophy you will simply need to complete any 25 Side missions in the game, but you should have no problem with this trophy and have no need to farm for side missions for it with just a normal playthrough.

The Chocobo's Savior
Proof of nursing the holy chocobo back to full health among the rich pastures of the Wildlands.

You will encounter the White Chocobo during the Main Story Missions of the game during the Wildlands chapter of the game. After you save him from the Chocobo Eater, Dr. Ghysal will have him returned to Canopus Farms where you will need to take care of him to progress further into the main story of the game. You will need to get him part of the way healed for this trophy by healing him enough so that he can be rode on and glide. After that it is up to you to continue healing him to get this trophy. Your Chocobo, which you can rename if you wish, has three stages of healing at 125, 250 and 400 Healing Points, and to progress the story you will need to get him up to 250 healing points, so you only need another 150 after that. There is actually a benefit to fully healing your Chocobo as the higher his level gets, the stronger spells he will use in battle. So at the final level he will heal you during battle in the Wildlands with the strongest Healing Spells AND he will target an enemies weakness and used the most powerful elemental spells against them.

Now you can use ANY of the items listed below to heal your Chocobo, BUT the quickest way to complete this healing is to simply head to Jagd Village and start the Chocobo Cheer side quest once you have healed your Chocobo enough to ride it. For more information on finding this mission please see the Angel of Salvation trophy above. Once you have started the mission, you will need to collect ONE Yeul Flower to finish the mission, which is described in the side mission above, so after that you will only need two more. The Yeul Flowers regrow every 24 hours, BUT fortunately there are 4 locations of flowers around the Wildlands to use and I will point out the two easiest to get to so you can complete this quickly.

The first, is right where you found your White Chocobo when you needed to defend him from the Chocobo Eater. Head back to the same location, but when you get to the area where the battle took place, head all the way to the back right corner to find this flower. Now head to Aryas Village and when you get there open up your map and move your cursor directly left of the village until you hit the edge of the map. The second flower is located in this area, below some Arya Apples. Once you have both of these your Chocobo will be at full strength.

If you choose to not use the method described above, you can use whatever means you feel works best for you to heal your Chocobo. Below I have listed all the healing items and the amount of Healing Points each item gives to you. Either way, once you have hit 400 total Healing Points the trophy will unlock.
  • Gysahl Greens - 25
  • Fuzzy Sheep Milk - 30
  • Creamy Sheep Milk - 40
  • Chocobull - 40
  • Sylkis Greens - 40
  • Tantal Greens - 40
  • Mystical Meal - 40
  • Animal Potion - 50
  • Yeul's Flower- 50

Lizard Lariat
Proof of hunting down more than 30 lizards in the shifting sands of the Dead Dunes.

The Dead Dunes can be reached by using the Railway Station at South Gate from Luxerion. Once you reach the Dead Dunes, as you are roaming around the area, you will see medium sized lizards crawling around. These aren't enemies that attack you, simply lizards roaming around the sand, similar to the dogs and cats roaming around in the other locations. The lizards wont have any prompts over them, BUT if you press your and attack them with your sword, you will kill them and receive a prompt to collect an item from the remains. As soon as you kill 30 of these peace loving lizards, the trophy will unlock.

Crimson Rebirth
Proof of restoring a sword, once broken, to its former glory and power.

Just before the final battle in the game against Bhunivelze, Mog will appear and tell you that you can go through the final door to the final battle OR you can head into the four side Altars of the Temple for a challenge. Mog will then move to the back of the room by the final door where you can purchase Recovery Items from him and Synthesize new items. For this trophy you will need to go into EACH of the 4 Altars and complete the challenges inside. Inside the rooms you will find several random enemies, that you DON'T need to to fight and are a pain so I suggest avoiding them until you get to each locked door. There will be three locked doors in each Altar and at each locked door there will be a an enemy or a group of enemies that you will need to defeat before moving further unto the Altar. If you have already defeated any of the Last Ones for these enemies the doors will automatically open for you. At the end of each Altar, you will find the base level of each of the Legendary Magic Spells. Once you have finished all 4 of the Altars you will receive the Ultima Weapon and Ultima Shield for the final battle, which I personally recommend as they both have fantastic stats. Once you receive these the trophy will also unlock.

The Slaughterhouse will be available every day for battle starting at 7PM (19:00) and ending at 3AM. You will win prizes for completing battles in the Slaughterhouse, but nothing overly special so I don't really recommend wasting any time here other than to unlock this trophy. The opponents you face in the Slaughterhouse will change depending on what time you go and if you are pre or post main story completion for the game. For this trophy you simply need to win 10 battles in the Slaughterhouse and the trophy will unlock.

A Helping Hand
Proof of clearing 25 quests that have appeared writ on the Canvas of Prayers.

Chocolina is back for Lightning Returns and in this final game, we actually get to find out more about the mysterious Chocolina. Instead of running a shop in this game, which she leaves up to her Chocolina minionettes, she is in charge of the Canvas of Prayers. There is a Canvas of Prayers, in every location, by every Railway station. The Canvas is full of wishes from people in the area. The wishes are similarly grouped based on difficulty like the Side Missions and will give you a boost in your stats when you complete them. The missions can only be turned in to the Canvas board for that region as each region has its own quests. The only exception to this is the Global missions which will be present on each of the Canvas of Prayer boards in every location and can be turned in to any of them when completed. For this trophy you simply need to complete 25 of these missions, which is very easy as the majority of these missions simply involve defeating enough enemies to collect enough of the item they drop. As soon as you hit 25 Canvas Missions completed the trophy will unlock.

Now head to the Forge and once you are there pick one of your weapons and use the Mighty Materials that you just purchased to upgrade it the same way you learned during the Tutorial. You will need to perform 30 individual upgrades for this to work! Even if you can use all 30 of the materials at the same time for the upgrade, make sure you do them one at a time otherwise it will take longer. You will only be able to upgrade each weapon to a certain point with the Might Materials before you will need to start using more powerful upgrade materials to upgrade the weapon more. If you are just going for the trophy, simply go to the next weapon in line and continue the upgrading until you have used all 30 of the Might Materials and the trophy will unlock.

Expert Synthesist
Proof of synthesizing abilities 30 times.

Synthesizing will be available from the first time you visit a Sorcery Shop. You can find one of these in the Old Town district of Luxerion as soon as you have free roam available to you on the first day. Talk to the owner of the Sorcery Shop and on your first visit you will receive a tutorial on how to synthesize stronger magic from what you have collected. From this point in the game all you need to do is regularly come back to Sorcery Shops and use the Synthesis with the spells that defeated enemies drop, and they drop a lot, to make more powerful abilities. Later in the game you will gain the ability to upgrade maxed magic to the next level to make even stronger magics and all this will all count towards your total. As soon as you have used the synthesis ability 30 times the trophy will unlock.

Unearthly Apothecary
Proof of obtaining an elixir. It's so rare that it seems almost a waste to use it, doesn't it?

The elusive Elixir can only be found by receiving one as a reward from one of the four Soul Seed vendors in the game. The Soul Seed vendor will need 100 seeds on your first playthrough, BUT he will only need 80 seeds on a second playthrough to give you the Elixir. You will need to spend 2,000 Gil to start the Soul Seeds side mission with the Seed Trader in Luxerion to work on this trophy. The seeds can be found inside any of the Chaos Clouds throughout the game. There are a few chaos infusions that will occur during the game in story missions and side missions where you can find extra soul seeds, but you will need to hunt for the rest while you are playing. There are recurring chaos infusions that will appear in each of the four areas between certain times of the day. They will stay there during those hours until either the time is up, or the enemy that spawns inside them is defeated. After that, you will have to wait for the next day for them to appear again. There are a total of 12 events each day with anywhere from 1-3 soul seeds inside each event. As soon as you receive the Elixir from the Seed Trader the trophy will unlock.

The Ultimatus Garb can be unlocked by completing the Ultimate Lair only available on Day 13 and defeating Ereshkigal. The Ultimatus Garb comes with Ultima as a preset Magic Spell with the Garb. For more tips on how to complete the Lair, please check the Monster Bane trophy below.

Monster Bane
Proof of mastering all creation and conquering even the Ultimate Lair.

The Ultimate Lair will appear in the Dead Dunes if you reach Day 13 of the game. It is ONLY available during this day. You will find a Red Cactuar that will appear near the main entrance to the underground Temple that will take you to the Lair. Once you are inside, you will be facing nothing but Last Ones as you try to battle your way to the bottom of the Lair. Each level of the Lair will have a monster in it for you to face, UNLESS you have already defeated the Last One for that level during your playthrough and in that case you will simply be able to advance to the next level. Time continues to run while you are in the Lair, so you only have a limited amount of time to get to the bottom to complete this. Once you defeat each monster, you will have the option of moving one, two or three floors down depending on your score for the battle in that room. Use the guide below to reach the bottom where you will find the main boss of the Lair who is extremely powerful.

Desert Dragonslayer
Proof of victory over the dragon Aeronite who brought terror to the Dead Dunes.

The Aeronite, won't appear in the Dead Dunes until Day 7 of the game and from then he will appear every day after that until the end of the game. He will appear as a ball of electricity floating around the Dead Dunes in a counterclockwise pattern depending on what time it is in the day. Before you head into this battle, you should know that the Aeronite is the most powerful enemy in this game with an incredible 11 million hit points. The main objective in this battle is to get the Aeronite to the Fourth Stagger level. Each Stagger on the Aeronite will increase your damage you deal with physical attacks starting at 50% on the first Stagger and ending with 500% at Stagger level 4. Don't even bother trying to grind it out with him at a lower Stagger Level as you are on a time limit and if it takes more than 4 minutes in between each Stagger, the Aeronite will escape from battle. If he escapes from battle, you will have to start the battle over again as he will regain all of his health.

He doesn't have any particular Elemental weakness, so you need to prepare with several spells that will cause multiple hits to his stagger gauge with each casting such as Aerora and Thundara. I also recommend having Ruin in your active spells as your spell to use while cooling down the other two Schemas as it will stabilize and maintain the Stagger Gauge to keep it from dropping as fast. I also recommend a high powered weapon with Artemis' Arrows as your physical weapon, in the same Schema as Ruin and save this for your Level 4 Stagger finishing move along with a pile of Overclocking. If you Elixirs or Ethers available for this battle, they will be very useful to add more chances to Overclock to finish off the beast. If you need more help in this battle please watch the video below.

Hero of Might
Proof of victory over 100 foes in battle.

As you are roaming around with Lightning, enemies will randomly spawn and appear in the game. You can either choose to avoid them, run into them, OR press the to try and slash at them to start the battle at an advantage. Every battle will start with one of three battle conditions listed below.
  • Enemies start at 25% less health. This happens when you hit the enemy with your sword when they haven't noticed you.
  • Enemies start at 10% less health. This happens when you hit an enemy with your sword AFTER they have noticed you and are moving to attack.
  • Lightning starts at 5% less health. This happens when an enemy makes contact with you first.
For this trophy you simply need to defeat 100 enemies in battle. This is a very easy trophy and I had this around the time I finished Chapter 1. As long as you are working on sidequests at the same time and are actually fighting the majority of the enemies you encounter, you should unlock this trophy some where around the same time as well.

Hero of Glory
Proof of victory over 300 foes in battle.

As you are roaming around with Lightning, enemies will randomly spawn and appear in the game. You can either choose to avoid them, run into them, OR press the to try and slash at them to start the battle at an advantage. Every battle will start with one of three battle conditions listed below.

For this trophy you simply need to defeat 300 enemies in battle. This is a very easy trophy and I had this around the time I finished day 5. Hero of Legend
Proof of victory over 500 foes in battle.

As you are roaming around with Lightning, enemies will randomly spawn and appear in the game. You can either choose to avoid them, run into them, OR press the to try and slash at them to start the battle at an advantage. Every battle will start with one of three battle conditions listed below.

  • Lightning starts at 5% less health. This happens when an enemy makes contact with you first.
For this trophy you simply need to defeat 500 enemies in battle. This is a little bit harder than the previous two kill trophies but I still had this around the time I finished day 10. As long as you are working on sidequests at the same time and are actually fighting the majority of the enemies you encounter, you should unlock this trophy some where around the same time as well.

Fatal Impact
Proof of dealing damage so great that it goes beyond all reason or expectation.

If you have played the previous two FFXIII games you will be familiar with this trophy as it has made it's appearance in both games. For this trophy you will need to have a single attack that equals 99,999 or higher in damage. This is actually fairly easy in this game compared to the other two and doesn't really take that much preparation. The key to this is Staggering and a proper setup. Now I personally recommend using the Soldier of Peace garb along with a Heavy Slash LV3 or higher that will setup the Artemis' Arrows attack ability. Once you have that ready, you will need to equip a decently powerful sword with a strong Physical Attack attribute. I personally used the Masamune, BUT other swords such as Chaos' Revenge should work as well. It will also help to have Deprotect in your Schema, especially if you have a weaker weapon. Make sure your Soldier of Peace is charged up enough to use the ability and bring an enemy you are facing to stagger. Once you bring them to a Stagger, hit them with a Deprotect and then follow up with your Artemis' Arrows to achieve the hit point total you need.

If you are still having problems reaching this total, grab the Ultima Weapon before the final fight with Bhunivelze and when you get him to Stagger in his final form you should be able to achieve this point total with your Artemis' Arrows and the stagger multiplier for the easy trophy.

[top]
Seeing Stars
Proof of staggering enemies 50 times with fearsome attacks. Do not ever let them rest!

The stagger wave has replaced the stagger bar for Lightning Returns. For those of you that are vets of the series, staggering still works the same as it did in the previous FFXIII games. For those of you that are new to the series, staggering happens when you repeatedly exploit an enemies weakness until the growing wave reaches s "Stagger" point. The wave will start small and yellow and as you repeatedly attack them, it will grow larger and more red. While an enemy is staggered, you can cause massive damage to the enemies. All enemies have a different Stagger point and ways to drive up the Stagger gauge which can be viewed by using Libra which is pressing the button.

There is no need to farm this trophy as this will most likely unlock well before the end of the first day as one of your first trophies if you spend enough time fighting. The easiest monsters to work on this trophy with is the Gremlins. As soon as the fight starts with them they will cast a spell. If you attack right when the battle begins you will hit them in the middle of their spell and cause an immediate Stagger and most likely kill them at the same time.

[top]
Miracle of Light
Proof of one who has used 50 EP.

Your EP abilities can be viewed by pressing the when you are in free roam OR by pressing in the middle of battle. Your EP gauge is on the bottom left hand side of the screen and will get larger as the game progresses and you complete main missions. Each use of an EP ability will cost you a certain amount of EP points and as you defeat enemies, your EP gauge will slowly recharge. The two most effective EP abilities that you will use IMO are the Curaga and Overclock abilities. For this trophy, you simply need to use your EP abilities 50 times during the game. You should have this fairly early in the game with normal use of your abilities and should have no reason to need to try and farm this unless you go out of your way to not use them.
  • Curaga - 2 EP
  • Arise - 3 EP
  • Esunada - 1 EP
  • Decoy - 1 EP
  • Overclock - 2 EP
  • Army of One - 1 EP
  • Escape - 0 EP
  • Chronostasis - 1 EP
  • Teleport - 3 EP

Perfect Timing
Proof of successfully guarding against an enemy's attack with perfect timing.

This will most likely be one of the very first trophies you earn in the game. Guarding is an integral part of the game and will help save you from losing mass amounts of health during battles. A "Perfect Guard" occurs when you press the proper guard button that the ability is set up to in your active Schema at the exact moment an enemies attack is about to hit you and will cause the Stagger Wave to increase for the enemy. The first time you perform a Perfect Guard the trophy will unlock.

Harbinger of Death
Proof of defeating your first Last One, the final specimen of a species on the verge of extinction.

Last Ones, will appear when you have hunted an entire species of monster to extinction in the game. You will know when you have completed this task as the enemy will appear with a purple coloring to it and have an Omega symbol at the end of its name. The Last Ones are always much stronger than there regular counterparts as they have all the power of the entire species built up in them to try and prevent extinction. Every enemy has a set number of enemies you must kill to reach the Last One of its species and then you won't see any more of it for the rest of the playthrough, so if you spend enough time in battle you will find a lot of these. Once you defeat your very first Last One the trophy will unlock
