[top]Tips and Strategies

  • All trophies are listed in XMB order.
  • New gamers should play Madden 11 on Pro, Seasoned Vets should play on either All-Pro or All-Madden. You can get trophies on Rookie if you are having difficulties.
  • No OTP means No Online Team Play. Madden 11 has a new feature this year allowing you to play Co-op as a team with a max of 3 people per team. You cannot use this mode and earn trophies if the descriptions says that.
  • Trading is much more difficult in this years Madden, when trading make sure you take into account the players Potential rating and not just their overall rating when attempting trades because the computer will do that as well.
  • Defense can be difficult but I found that Man Coverages are better than Zone coverages unless you can get a lot of pressure on the QBs.
  • You can earn trophies during Madden Moments as well so even though you may have trouble achieving one in the regular game, you may unlock it during a Madden Moment.
  • The game likes to occasionally freeze, unfortunately that occasion is when you've played for a while and have done something good. Madden doe not have an autosave feature!!! Make sure you click down the in the menu screens to save often during Franchise and Madden Moment play.

Very Special Teams
Return 2 kicks for touchdowns in one game with one player (no OTP)

This one can be quite daunting. The trick to this one is the selection of your return man. With the right return man this trophy can go from extremely difficult to moderate in terms of difficulty. Once you get your returner, here's my advice, select a Return Middle the kick will most likely go to one side or the other. Once you catch the ball start up the field and when you get about 10 yards away from the tacklers run diagonally towards the middle. Now there will be a point when the outside runners ,who are the fastest, outrun the middle tacklers and get blocked. In between those two groups a small window will open up for you to cut back towards the sideline. This is by far the easiest way to return kicks if you have a good returner. It may take several tries because you also need good blocking for that small lane to open but once you get the rhythm down and can recognize the window it will become very easy for you. This has to be done with 2 kickoff returns! You will not get credit for Punt Returns towards this. Here is a list of top returners in the game that are fast to make this easier:

  • Josh Cribbs: Browns 99 RET 92 SPD
  • Percy Harvin: Vikings 98 RET 96 SPD
  • Troy Williamson: Jaguars 97 RET 93 SPD
  • DeSean Jackson: Eagles 97 RET 99 SPD
  • Santana Moss: Redskins 95 RET 96 SPD
  • Eddie Royal: Broncos 95 RET 94 SPD
  • Devin Hester: Bears 94 RET 98 SPD
  • Reggie Bush: Saints 90 RET 97 SPD
  • Ted Ginn: 49ers 88 RET 97 SPD

This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.

Butterfingers
Force 3 fumbles in a game (no OTP)

This trophy isn't too hard since you don't have to actually recover the fumbles you just need to cause them. Use your hit stick with the right stick anytime you make a tackle when the ball is passed press the to change to the nearest defender and immediately hit stick with the right stick to increase your fumble chances on the CPU. If you are really having trouble with this trophy, play an exhibition game with either the Ravens or the Jets defense and make the game as cold as possible with as much precipitation as possible. Make the CPU the Browns and with their sub-par RBs and the snow you should be able to cause 3 fumbles in the game with the proper use of hit sticking the CPU. This trophy doesn't unlock until the end of the game.

[top]
Man Dozer
Rush for 50 yards after the first hit in one game (no OTP)

This one may sound tough but with the description of the trophy you DO NOT necessarily have to break a 50 yard run after a broken tackle. This is a cumulative trophy throughout the game. It can be done all in one play or from several plays. That being said there is a good number of Running Backs to use for this trophy. For this trophy you will want to focus more on the RB's TRK (Truck) than on his agility ratings. You don't have to have a high truck for this trophy but it will make it easier. A juke move or spin move away from a defender will not count towards this, you must Truck through an opponent. The TRK rating refers to your truck stick which is done by pressing the right stick forward when you get hit to try and run over your opponent. Some RB's will have a high TRK and are also very fast which means you will be able to get this trophy faster because after the hit you will have the acceleration to get going again before someone else can pile on. From the point of your Broken tackle to the end of the run is how many yards you will earn towards this trophy. Here is a list of who I feel would be good RB's for this trophy starting with Adrian Peterson as being my best pick for this trophy, your RB picks will obviously differ from mine:
  • Adrian Peterson: Vikings 97 TRK 97 SPD
  • Michael Turner: Falcons 97 TRK 87 SPD
  • Stephen Jackson: Rams 95 TRK 87 SPD
  • Cedric Benson: Bengals 94 TRK 89 SPD
  • Ryan Grant: Packers 94 TRK 88 SPD
  • Rashard Mendenhall: Steelers 93 TRK 89 SPD
  • Maurice Jones-Drew: Jaguars 88 TRK 94 SPD
  • Frank Gore: 49ers 86 TRK 93 SPD

This trophy will not unlock until the end of the game.

[top]
He's Got All Day
Stay in the pocket for 10 seconds (no OTP)

The "Pocket" is the area of field on Offense in between the RT and the LT. This Pocket doesn't have an ending point. It goes from one end zone to the other. Now that being said if you are having trouble unlocking this trophy during your franchise there is a very easy way to get this without cheating. Play as the Eagles and make the CPU the Browns on an exhibition game. Make sure the weather is nice (you don't want to slip and fall down). You can change to difficulty to make it easier if you really must, and then when you get on offense drive the ball down to about the 5 yard line or so going in for a TD. Put QB Michael Vick in the game and run a pass play. When the ball is snapped, Hold the and the to sprint backwards with Vick to about the 20 yard line. Check the defense, if no one has broke through the line as an immediate threat just hang out there while silently counting SLOWLY in your head. As soon as someone breaks through and is about 7-10 yards away run backwards again but make sure you stay within the tackles! Once you count to 10-15 seconds Slowly either throw a pass or roll outside the pocket and throw the ball away. If you stayed in the pocket for 10 seconds you will receive your gold. This trophy will unlock about 3-5 seconds after completing the task.

[top]
Did I Break It?
Win a game by at least 59 points (max qtr. len. 7 min, no OTP)

This one can be a little tricky, but obviously the better your team is, the easier it will be. Make sure you have the Accelerated game clock turned off for this trophy! That being said try to get an early lead. The more you are up by, the more the CPU will pass more than run to try to catch up. The more the CPU passes the better chance you have at getting Interceptions that can be turned into points for this trophy. You will probably get this during your normal playthrough on your Franchise. If you are having trouble with this trophy, play an exhibition game mode and select either the Colts, Saints, or Vikings and make the CPU the Browns. You want the CPU to have a bad offense and a bad defense and a team like the Rams will have too many offensive weapons. Remember you need to not only score more than 59 but also win by 59 points for this so we want them to score as little as possible if at all. If you are still having trouble you can extend the Quarter time to 7 minutes and still get the trophy. This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.

[top]
Winning Isn't Everything
Catch 21 passes in a game with one player (no OTP)

The NFL record for catches in a game currently stands at 21 by Brandon Marshall. For this trophy you must tie that record. Now there are several ways you can do this BUT since the trophy isn't specific to any certain player you can get this at any position not just receiver. Slants work really well for this trophy for a receiver, but what I found works even better is Screen Passes to a good RB. Play as a team with a good RB and run him on non-stop screen passes and float the ball over to him as he cuts away from defenders to get this trophy in no time. You don't have to User Catch any of these like last years game so just throw it over there and let him go get it. Once you get to 21 you will get an on screen notification that you have just set the NFL record for Receptions in a game and at the end of the game the trophy will Ping. If you are running screen passes you can also get this trophy with the Deadly Accurate and YACtastic trophies.

[top]
Old Spice Swagger Return
Return a punt for a touchdown (no OTP)

This trophy is much easier than the Very Special Teams trophy as long as you pick a good return man. When it's 4th down, pick Return Middle and set up for the return. When you start off run to either the right or the left to get the Defensive Flow heading in that direction and watch for a hole to open in between the outside speed tacklers and the inner tacklers. When you see it, reverse your field in the opposite direction and your speedy returner should have no problem outrunning everyone since they have momentum to the other side of the field. If you are on the road to a return and you see a penalty called don't run out of bounds! The game will give you the trophy even if the return is called back for holding or clipping. This trophy unlike most others will unlock right after you score a TD from a Punt Return. Here is a list of top returners:

  • Josh Cribbs: Browns 99 RET 92 SPD
  • Percy Harvin: Vikings 98 RET 96 SPD
  • Troy Williamson: Jaguars 97 RET 93 SPD
  • DeSean Jackson: Eagles 97 RET 99 SPD
  • Santana Moss: Redskins 95 RET 96 SPD
  • Eddie Royal: Broncos 95 RET 94 SPD
  • Devin Hester: Bears 94 RET 98 SPD
  • Reggie Bush: Saints 90 RET 97 SPD
  • Ted Ginn: 49ers 88 RET 97 SPD

[top]
Comeback Kids
Win after being behind in the last 2 min of a game (no OTP, min qtr. len. 3 min)

You may unlock this trophy during your Franchise at the end of a close game that you win. If you don't happen to do that, DON'T play an exhibition game or go out of your way to try to earn this trophy. All you need to do for this trophy is play , and win, the very first Madden Moment, The Bungles. Since the requirements to beat this Moment involve the requirements for this trophy, you will receive this at the end of the moment if you succeed.

[top]
No Offense
Intercept 5 passes in a game (no OTP)

Intercepting the ball is MUCH harder in this game. Use Cover 2 and Cover 1 if the offense only needs 5 or so yards for the first down. Use Cover 3 and Cover 1 if the offense needs more than 5 and if the Offense needs 15 or more use a Dime Cover 3 and back the Defensive Backs off. That being said when the ball is passed remember to press the to change players and then the to try for a pick to improve your Intercepting chances. For this trophy you DO NOT need to return any of them for touchdowns, simply intercept the ball. The key to this trophy is constant pressure. if you let the QBs on this game sit back there all day they will pick you apart, even the bad QBs. When I got this I was playing the Saints so it doen'st even have to be against a bad QB. They played a 3 WR set almost the entire game and I played a 4-3 Edge Sting defense. I got burned deep a decent amount, but I got more picks from the pressure I got on Brees than any game I've played using a Cover 3 or Cover 2. If this is giving you problems bump the level down and use the Jets or Bengals (they have the best secondary in the game) and make the CPU the Browns. You can also change the quarter time to play a longer game. Remember the more you get ahead of the other team the more they will rely on the pass and not the run.

[top]
Fantasy Freak
Rush for over 200 yards in a game with one player (no OTP)

One you get the hang of running the ball, you will find it's very easy in this years Madden. For this trophy you can use any RB but to make it simple on yourself use either Adrian Peterson, the best player in the game, or Chris Johnson. I recommend the Dolphins playbook and the I Twins set formation. From there run a HB counter and when you are on the field check the Cornerbacks. If they both go to the receiver side use your playcaller audibles to make sure the play goes to the TE side for a big gain. If the Corners split make the play go to the 2 receiver side for extra blocking. If you are really having trouble play an exhibition game with either the Titans or the Vikings and make the CPU the Browns and you can even extend the length of the Quarters to make it easier. This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.

[top]
Nano
Tackle the QB before he can hand the ball off (no OTP)

This trophy seemed easier in last years game but maybe my Linebackers were just faster last year. This trophy is really just based on luck, occasionally while you are playing, someone will burst through your line and tackle the QB before he gets a chance to hand the ball off. It will usually be the CPU doing it for you on a lucky play. You may unlock this during your Franchise mode, but if you don't, you could start an exhibition game with the Colts as they have the best DE duo with Freeney and Mathis, and make the CPU the Browns. Run Punt Blocks on Defense to try to get the trophy. If you are still having problems with it refer to the tip below to get the trophy easily without having to cheat and turn off penalties. This trophy will unlock about 3-5 seconds after completing the task.

Elusive Man
Break 5 tackles in a game with one player (no OTP)

This one sounds tough but it will be one of the easy trophies for the game once you get the hang of it. For this trophy you will need to break tackles NOT ELUDE with the same player 5 times in one game. This can be done with ANY player on Offense but it will be easiest with a good RB that has a high TRK (Truck) stat. You don't have to get any yards after the tackle, so that means as long as you break the tackle if you get tackled by someone else who hits you right after that it will count towards your trophy. Here is a list of RBs that would will make the trophy easier starting with Adrian Peterson. There are also good WRs for this trophy such as Brandon Marshall and Andre Johnson. This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.
  • Adrian Peterson: Vikings 97 TRK 97 SPD
  • Michael Turner: Falcons 97 TRK 87 SPD
  • Stephen Jackson: Rams 95 TRK 87 SPD
  • Cedric Benson: Bengals 94 TRK 89 SPD
  • Ryan Grant: Packers 94 TRK 88 SPD
  • Rasheed Mendenhall: Steelers 93 TRK 89 SPD
  • Maurice Jones-Drew: Jaguars 88 TRK 94 SPD
  • Frank Gore: 49ers 86 TRK 93 SPD

Thanks For Coming
Play the Pro Bowl (Franchise Mode)

The Pro Bowl is the All Star game that is held at the end of every football season after the Super Bowl, except for the one in 2010 which was held before the Super Bowl. The game started being played in 1938 and has played at several different venues, but is usually played in Hawaii. The coaches and players pick the best players of the league for the year to play in the game. For this trophy, you only need to play the Pro Bowl at the end of any Franchise season. You don't have to win and you can sim the games during the season to get to it but YOU MUST PLAY IT IN A FRANCHISE MODE!. This trophy will not unlock until you are back in the franchise Menu.

[top]
Perfect Game
Have a perfect passer rating in a game (no OTP)

A "Perfect Passer Rating" in the NFL is 158.3. This can be an extremely difficult task to achieve. It will take a lot of practice to earn this if you are new to the game or are not very good at passing and rely on your running game. Now that being said there are two ways to earn this trophy:

The Hard Way
LOTS OF PRACTICE AND SKILL!! the better your QB the better chance you will have at this trophy. For a perfect passer rating for a game you must have met these 4 requirements:
  1. A completion percentage of 77.5% or better for the game
  2. You must have an average per pass attempt of 12.5 or better
  3. No interceptions for the game
  4. One touchdown pass on 12% of attempts of passes thrown.

The Easy Way
Since this trophy doesn't require a minimum amount of attempts you can wait until your team is on the 13-15 yard line and put in your back up QB. Run a Corner pattern with your outside receiver and a post with your inside receiver/tight end. If the defense is in a Cover 2 defense the Safety will have to choose who to cover and will usually cover the Corner leaving the post open for an easy TD. If they are in a Cover 3 the Safety and Corner will both drop deep and you should be able to sneak the pass to the post in between the LBs, or to the Corner if you use the Precision passing by pressing the when you throw the ball. After you throw the ball press the to change players, then press the to jump up and take the ball away from the corner. If they happen to be in a Man Coverage Defense just run with your QB or take the sack and try again later without wasting a passing attempt. Try to throw a TD on your only pass with your backup. If you do this and you are at a distance I've described or farther, don't throw any more passes with him the rest of the game and you will get the trophy at the end of the game.

[top]
Home Run
Break an 80+ yard touchdown run (no OTP)

You will probably unlock this during your franchise as it's not very hard. If you haven't unlocked it during your Franchise, play an exhibition game and use these tips. Select either the Titans or the Vikings and make the CPU the Browns. Next select Titans playbook for Offense. When the game starts and you get the ball make sure you are on your 20 yard line or less. Next run the Counter from the I Twins formation. If the defense is in zone coverage the 2 Cornerbacks will be split, one on each side. If this happens run the counter towards the two receiver side and try to break it for a long TD. If both Corners go to the same side, the defense is in a man. Use your Playmaker stick to change the play to the TE side and run that way for a long TD. If you are still having trouble you can always bump the gameplay level down to make this easier, but with Peterson or Johnson you should have no problems. This trophy will unlock right after you perform this feat.

[top]
Old Spice Swagger Pick 6
Intercept a pass and return it for a touchdown (no OTP)

Intercepting the ball is much harder in this game, but this one is fairly easy. You will probably unlock this during your normal franchise mode if you use some football sense while playing. Once you get the Interception, you must return it for a TD for the trophy. If this is giving you problems bump the level down and use the Jets (they have the best secondary in the game) and make the CPU the Browns. Once you return an Interception for a TD you will receive your trophy.

[top]
YACtastic
Have over 100 YAC in one game (no OTP)

YAC or Yards After Catch, happens anytime you catch the ball and is counted from the point you catch the ball to the end of your run. There are several plays that work well for this and you will probably get it while playing your first and second game, BUT IF NOT, you will get this trophy while getting the Winning isn't Everything if you follow my instructions and throw screen passes to the RB and you have a good RB on your team. Also this trophy doesn't say if you have to get 100 YAC yards all with one player so this trophy may also be cumulative for the entire team. If someone finds out please let me know. This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.

[top]
Pick Up 6
Win a Fight for the Fumble in the end zone for a TD (no OTP)

I have been playing Madden since the 80's when Madden first came out and I have to say this is by far the WORST gameplay addition they've thought up. For some reason all the GOOD additions, such as creating your own playbook, Playmaker controls to control receiver routes and blockers during the play and exporting your franchise team to play online against friends have all gone away and they have left us with this pile of CRAP. The idea behind this is a good one because in real life the ball will change hands a lot in a pile up HOWEVER the CPU likes to cheat! If they just left it the same button to mash it would be OK but as soon as the button changes to a new one the CPU always jumps up a bunch on their bar. So, since the CPU cheats I fell on this trophy it is OK to cheat. There are two ways to get this trophy, the easy way and the hard way. This trophy will unlock right after you perform this annoying task.

The Hard Way
Play a game as the Jets or Ravens against the Browns with a second controller and make the conditions for the game cold and snowy and turn in Unlimited Replays. Always give the Browns the ball on the 1 yard line and run Toss plays to the left and hope for a fumble and a pile up to win.

The Easy Way
Play a game as the Jets or Ravens against the Browns with a second controller and turn in Unlimited Replays. When the game starts go into the Settings menu and go to Penalties. Turn the offsides down to 0. Give the Browns the ball on the 1 yard line and select a Toss Right. Take your Jet you are controlling and move him offsides between the RB and the QB with his back to the QB so he won't catch the ball. The ball should hit you in the back on the toss play and you can pile up for the TD and trophy.

[top]
Deadly Accurate
Have a 92% or higher completion percentage in a game (min 20 att., no OTP)

This trophy can be extremely difficult since you need to have a minimum of 20 attempts. The easiest way to get this trophy is by using a team with a very good RB such as the Titans or the Vikings and run Screen Passes. I recommend getting this at the same time as the Perfect Game trophy. For this trophy you will need to complete 19 of 20 passes OR 23 of 25 for 2 incompletions. You can get this by passing to WRs but it will not only be much more difficult but the farther you pass the ball the chance of an incompletion will greatly increase. This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.

[top]
Laces Out
Kick a 60+ yard Field Goal (no OTP)

There have been 3 kicks on the history of the NFL that have reached the 60 yard or better mark. 63 yards is the current NFL Record held by Tom Dempsey of the Saints and Jason Elam of the Broncos. For this trophy you DO NOT need to break or tie the record you simply need to kick a FG of 60 or more yards. Once you get the hang of kicking you will find that this isn't as daunting as it may sound. There are 2 keys to this Trophy. First is selecting the right kicker. The most obvious kicker for this trophy is Sebastian Janikowski. He may not be the best kicker in the NFL but he is among the elite and has what is strongly considered the strongest leg in the NFL. When selecting a kicker you need to look at the Kickers KP (Kicking Power) Rating. The higher the better but with the right conditions you should be able to make this kick with a kicker of a 95+ in this category. After that look for the KA (Kicking Accuracy) for your kicker. There are several that can MAKE the FG but aren't very accurate and will make it much more difficult for you. Remember 60 yards is a lot of travel time for an inaccurate kicker. Here is a list of kickers to try this with:

  • Mason Crosby: Packers 99 KP 78 KA
  • Sebastian Janikowski: Raiders 98 KP 88 KA
  • Rhys Lloyd: Vikings 97 KP 75 KA
  • Josh Brown: Rams 97 KP 87 KA
  • Rob Bironas: Titans 96 KP 92 KA
  • David Buehler: Cowboys 96 KP 82 KA
  • Matt Prater: Broncos 95 KP 83 KA

After you have selected your kicker we come to what to do on the field. For a 60 yard field goal you will need to be on the 43 yard line going into a TD. You always add 17 yards to every FG, 10 yards for the end zone and 7 yards for the holding spot of the kick. You will want to kick this with either no wind or the wind behind you (preferred but not necessary unless your kicker is below a 95 KP). When you line up you will want to line up your kick and with the left stick you will want to push the arrow as far down as you can go to lower the trajectory of your kick to make the kick fly farther and line up your arrow so it either splits the uprights or is off to either side depending on wind. IF YOU DON'T LOWER YOUR KICK TRAJECTORY YOU WILL NOT MAKE THIS FG! They have changed the kicking in this years game and removed the use of the Right Stick for kick power. Instead you will have a meter on the bottom of the screen. Press the to start the meter and wait for it to fill up to the right then press the again to set the power. Now when the meter comes back down press the again when you are in the green for your accuracy. Anything outside the green will pull your kick either left or right depending on which side you press the in relation to the starting point. If you make the FG the trophy is yours.

[top]
Defensive Dominance
Hold your opponent to under 100 yards of offense (min qtr. len. 5 min, no OTP)

This one isn't very tough and you will probably get this in your first game. On Defense use a heavy dose of blitzing and good coverage skills with Dime Cover 1 and Cover 3. On Offense use ball control and waste as much of the clock as you can. If you are having trouble play an exhibition game and turn on the accelerated clock. Play as the Vikings so you can use Adrian Peterson, change the level down to Rookie BUT make sure you have 5 minute quarters! Use the Falcons Playbook and use a Twin set Counter to run easy. Waste the entire Play Clock to not let them have the ball. If you have to kickoff make sure you kick deep into the end zone OR out of bounds. Kick Return yards count as Offense yards! Follow these steps to the easy trophy. This will unlock at the end of the game.

[top]
Sack Master
Record 5 sacks in a game with one player (no OTP)

I found this one to be quite a bit difficult during my franchise because all 5 sacks need to be with the same player and the CPU always throws the ball right when I hit them. What I found to work best is to move my rE over to the left side and blitz both outside LBs. Once your are there run your RE into the Tackle and your LE should stunt around you and have an easier shot at the Sack. If this trophy is eluding you, play an Exhibition game as the Colts, Mathis and Freeney are both extremely fast and probably the best DE duo in the game. Make the CPU the Browns and bump down the difficulty if you need. Follow my strategies and you should be able to get it during the game. This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.

Master Strategist
Create a custom Gameplan

Gameplan, is new to this years Madden and its designed to make the game go faster and make the game playcalling a little easier for those who are new to football or don't like looking for the plays to call that they like. The idea is to make it similar to playing where the Head Coach calls in the play to you and you run it. If you have a head set you can even turn it on and hear what he calls and advice in your ear like the QBs do in real life in their helmet microphones. It's an innovative feature, I personally don't use it but it is pretty cool. For this trophy, head to the My Madden Menu at the bottom, then head to the Gameplanning menu and then either Create Offensive or Create Defensive Gameplan. From here you can create one if you like, but if you don't want to just press the button to save the default one and ping instant
