[top]Introduction

Max Payne 3 is a third-person shooter in which the player assumes the role of its titular character, Max Payne. The game features the over-the-shoulder zoom aiming and cover mechanics. However, these will just serve as garnish to the game's classic run-and-gun shooting. Max Payne 3 will also make return of bullet-time in action sequences, which the franchise is notable for. In bullet time it will be possible to see every bullet make a hole in your foes. A "Last Man Standing" mechanic, which gives Max a reprieve from death for a small period if he has one painkiller on him. If the player is able to kill the enemy that delivered the wounding shot with bullets he'll recover enough energy to soldier on.

- When you die a few times, you will be given a painkiller automatically.
- It is very important to know that if you are in the middle of one of these difficulties (Medium, hard, hardcore, old school) that you don't change the type of aim because as soon as you change it to another type of aim other than free aim for an achievement on a certain chapter then all your playthrough will be useless because it will disable the difficulty achievement.
- Standard Playlists Unlock - 50 enemy kills.
- Advanced Playlists Unlock - 500 enemy kills.
- Hardcore Playlists Unlock - 1000 enemy kills.
- Shoot-Dodge - This is the core gameplay element of Max Payne series. Once you have the certain amount of Adrenaline (there is an adrenaline meter), you can shoot as well as dodge the bullets with increased reflexes.
- Loadouts - Each player can choose a specific loadout before entering the multiplayer maps. Like the classes in most games, these load outs will let players to choose the setup they want to use before spawn such as appearance, weapons, armor etc. The selection will affect the player's attributes like speed, health regeneration.
- Loot the Bodies - After you have killed an enemy, you can try to loot it for items like extra ammo, Adrenaline, cash, or painkillers, etc.
- Bursts - Bursts are the special abilities that consume the adrenaline meter. There is a wide range of these abilities which can also be upgraded for more over the course of time.
Toggle Spoiler Bullet Time, for example, is a Burst that lets players to shoot in slow motion for particular time. Following is the list of Bursts (with the upgrade levels) that can be used in Max Payne 3:
Big Dog - Level 1
The burst affects your as well as your teammates' health.

Health boost will take effect on all the visible teammates.

Bullet Time - Level 1
Your reflexes are sharpened for 2.5s
Bullet Time - Level 2
The reflexes times duration is increased to 4s.

It will interfere with enemies' adrenaline usage.

Step 1 - Hard Story Mode
You can only pick easy, medium and hard when you first start up the game. You should start playing the game on hard difficultly on the single player story mode. Completing this will unlock old school and hardcore mode as easy and medium mode will not unlock it. Try and collect as many collectables on this playthrough but it doesn't matter too much if you miss any as you will have a chance to revisit any chapter.
Step 2 - Old School Story Mode
Complete Old School mode, which is the same as hard but the last chance option will not be available so use your painkillers wisely.
Step 3 - Hardcore Story Mode
This is slightly harder than the previous story mode as it takes less bullets to kill you. Try and kill enemies using headshots, collect as many painkillers as possible and use lots of cover.
Step 4 - Collectables/Grinds
There are loads of collectable items in the game. Revisited any chapter where you have missed any collectables and use the guide to find the exact location to find them all. Whilst finding the collectables finish off any grinds you may have left and changed the difficulty to easy if your finding it too hard.
Step 5 - A New York Minute
This mode will unlock once you have completed the game in any difficulty. Completing the New York minute will unlock the hardcore version which you will also need to complete.
Step 6 - Multiplayer
Last but not least the multiplayer mode. You will need around 30-35 hours to complete this section depending on your skill.
Step 7 - Platinum

This chapter shouldn't provide too much trouble as most of the chapter is cut scenes and there is only a handful of enemies to kill if you are having trouble remember to use the cover available to you and try not to be reckless as the enemies do a substantial amount of damage. This chapter should take no longer than 10 minutes and should give you very little headaches as there is plenty of cover. I suggest when clearing the parking lot that you utilise the large amount of objects as cover available to you as this will make this section a breeze and you should be able to finish the first chapter rather timely with minimal hiccups.
Chapter 2 - Nothing But the Second Best

This is where the game starts to get harder starting off with the dance floor once this chapter initiates it becomes quite difficult shoot dodge the first few enemies after the VIP lounge cut scene then use the wall next to the stairs you came up as cover to take out the enemies in the next room. Once you have done this proceed upstairs and take cover behind the chairs immediately in front of you. After you have disposed of these enemies proceed to the area on your left and take out the 2 enemies after the cut scene by shoot dodging when you gain control of Max. Once you have dispatched of the two enemies go into the bar area and take cover behind the bar and take out the handful of enemies in this area allowing you to proceed to talk to the ex-cop. Once the cut scene has finished go through the door into the kitchen area and take cover behind the wall then peek round and take out both of the enemies, once you have taken out both enemies move behind the kitchen counter and wait for the next two enemies and take them out from behind the counter. Once you have killed the 4 total enemies in the kitchen carry on into the next room with a handful of enemies awaiting you as soon as you walk in there will be 2 enemies making their way towards you dispatch of these and then look in the cut out to the left and kill the enemy to your left, Continue further into the room and then walk through the door at the end of the room and watch the elevator leave without you. Once you have watched the cut scene you will now be required to provide cover for the girl take out the enemies on the helipad and use your bullet time if you need to. You will be now swung around to continue covering the girl as in any other difficulty mode use your bullet time when you need to until you have been dropped off on the helipad to go and rescue her from her captors. Once you are on top of the helipad make your way down to the roof area now for the first few enemies you can either dive down to the bottom of the stairs and kill them on the way down or you can take them out from the top of the stairs. Once you have taken those out take cover behind the large air ventilation system to your right and take out the new enemies that spawn in front of you. Now make your way forward towards the sign and take cover behind one of the lower ventilation systems to take out the two enemies that come from the walkway on the sign. Now proceed onto the walkway for the sign take cover behind the first letter and take out all of the enemies on the sign then proceed down the sign and take the first right and then follow the walkway until the next right leading onto the next area take out the enemy before you get onto the new roof and then continue going straight and take cover on the corner, follow the roof onto another walkway and then go down the stairs and watch the cut scene to finish chapter 2.
Chapter 3 - Just Another Day at the Office

The first 6 minutes of this chapter contains no enemies as you won't be able to attack anyone until the cut scene where you have been bandaged up and you can see enemies coming into the area you are in. Take cover behind the wall and take out the enemies one by one there should be about 6 there will be three on each side. Proceed toward the elevator to reach the next area you will begin interrogating an enemy but I suggest taking up position behind one of the pillars in the room so you are ready for the enemies that will rush in on you dispatch of these enemies and continue on to the next area through the double doors. Be ready to shoot dodge to kill the enemy that bursts through the second door to the left. Continue through the area and up the stairs to meet some new enemies these are harder than the thugs that you have been up against take cover behind the counter and take the enemy to your left out first as he has the best angle then take out the rest of the enemies around you while staying in cover. Go through the shop and into the next area to trigger a cut scene and then run through sniper fire to get to the next area you shouldn't get hit by the sniper as you should be able to outrun his aim once you are back inside take cover behind the maintenance cart next to the wall and take out the enemies above you and then the ones in front of you then move forward and go through the door to your right and activate bullet time to kill the enemy awaiting you at the top of the ramp, Continue up the ramp and take out the enemy in the next room and continue advancing take cover on the wall before you enter the next room and clear out the enemies you can see and once you have done that move further into the room and shoot dodge the sniper hiding behind one of the equipment towers on the right hand side of the room. Once you have jumped out the window take cover on the stands to the right and take out the enemies in front of you. Now move forward and go through the gate the move up to the top of the seating area and take cover behind the barrier to take out the new enemies that spawned when you walked through the gate and also the enemies further down the seating area. Follow the walkway above the seats all the way to the end and go up the stairs to go back inside. Once inside go through the double doors and take cover behind the sign directly in front of you and take out the enemies coming up the stairs. Once you have dispatched of the enemies and the room is clear move forward and take cover behind the wall to get rid of the next set of enemies once you have cleared the area of enemies go forward up to the memorial and then take a right and go through the door to a maintenance area and get in the elevator. Once you have reached the top activate bullet time and kill the enemy at the bottom of the stairs and take cover behind the wall, you will now once again have to dodge cover fire simply run across the walkway until it ends and make a right take cover behind the wall and take the enemy to the right out and then go up the stairs and kill the sniper. You will now have to cover Passos with a sniper rifle this section does not change on any difficulty use your bullet time when needed as on any other difficulty. Once you have watched the cut scenes take cover behind the red wall and activate bullet time when the two enemies are in sight and kill them both, now move up the stairs and take cover on the wall and take out the three enemies around the corner and then proceed up towards the ladder and then proceed up the ladder. Once you reach the top of the ladder go along the walkway and activate bullet time when you see the enemies to take care of them easily, and then continue along the walkway and up the next set of ladders once again when you reach the top there will be enemies awaiting simply shoot dodge or activate bullet time and dispatch of them quickly. Go to the right where one of the enemies was located and drop down into the window to kill the sniper and complete the chapter.
Chapter 4 - Anybody Can Buy Me a Drink

The first 5 minutes of this chapter will be more cut scenes leading onto an action event which activates when the girl gets hit shoot the guy and once you have gained full control of max take cover behind one of booths on the wall and take out the enemies safely from cover, now once you have took the enemies out move closer to the next room and take cover on the wall and dispatch of the enemies in the room and make sure you take out the enemy above you. Now continue on through the exit door and down the stairs into the next bar take cover on the wall to your right and take out the enemies in the room make sure you look to your left and kill the enemies in the kitchen as well to do this simply clear out the room and then take cover in front of the bar and shoot the enemy in the kitchen window. Now continue through the door on the other side of the room and take cover behind one of the metal doors to the left to kill the enemies that are about to spawn in the kitchen and take them out safely from cover then proceed through the kitchen and leave the bar. This will trigger a cut scene once it is finished kill the enemies in front of you from the wall that the cut scene put you in cover on, continue up the street and round the corner and more enemies will spawn in front of you after another cut scene take cover behind the wall on the left hand side and take the enemies you can see out safely the move to the alley across the road and take out the rest of the enemies watch the cut scenes and once the enemies show up walk into the corridor and shoot dodge the enemies on the other end of the corridor and run towards where they were standing. After the cut scene sprint down the next corridor and go up the stairs once you are on the roof take cover behind one of the structures and kill the awaiting enemies, now climb onto the next level and proceed towards the next roof take cover behind the roof access and take out the enemies on the roof in front of you and initiate the shoot dodge sequence and kill the enemies across the street and then dive across one all of them are dead. Continue across the roof and into the next building take cover behind the wall on the left side and kill all of the enemies in the next room then proceed through the building and go upstairs take cover behind the construction materials and take out the 4 enemies in the next room once you have taken these enemies out move outside to trigger a cut scene onto the next building. After the cut scene take cover behind the blue tool cart in the garage and take out the enemies surrounding you I suggest taking out the enemy to the far right first as he has a good angle on you. After you have took out the enemies go outside and go to your right and take cover behind the gate to take out a few more enemies move into the alley and take out the two enemies in the bottom right corner and then go to the bottom left and take out the last enemy to complete the chapter.
Chapter 5 - Alive if Not Exactly Well

As soon as you start this chapter walk forward up the dirt path climb over the wall and continue following the path until you reach a large red door and shoot the lock off the door to continue. Now go up the stairs and hop over the small metal walkway to get back outside once back outside there will be 2 enemies shoot the block keeping the truck out of the water to get rid of the enemies in the easiest way. Now look to your right and there will be another 2 enemies coming through the gate proceed through the gate and take out the enemy to the right and follow that path until you reach a slightly opened door and proceed through it to trigger a cut scene. Once the cut scene is over take out the enemies that just walked into the warehouse shoot the first 2 through the window the go through the door to your left and take out the rest and proceed to the large door at the front of the warehouse immediately shoot dodge to take out the enemies in front of you go to the right through the maze of containers and watch out the enemies above you and in front of you once you have cleared these move up and take cover on the next container and take out the next set of enemies there will be roughly about 2 enemies and then follow the path round to the left and take cover behind the crate and take out the final enemies and move into the next courtyard and take out any enemies that are left in there. Once you are in the courtyard take cover behind one of the crates and kill the remaining enemies then move through the courtyard and into the next warehouse. Proceed out of the open loading bay door and go left up the set of stairs and through the door to trigger a shoot dodge scene take cover behind the crate you land next to and take out the remaining enemies that are left after the shoot dodge sequence proceed into the control room and press the switch on the wall and exit out the newly opened door. Proceed to the right then two enemies will emerge from the double doors to the left take out these enemies and proceed through the double doors to meet some more enemies take cover behind the crate to the left of the door to take these enemies out then proceed up the set of stairs as you walked in to the room then shoot dodge down the stairs and kill the enemies awaiting you. Proceed out the door to your right and take cover behind the container and take out the new enemies that are awaiting you then go to the left and move into the next part of the dockyards. Once in the next dockyard s and go into the control hut and pull the lever so you can proceed across the docks to make a daring rescue. Once you have pulled the lever start making your way across the docks take out the enemies on the docks and also watch out for the boat with enemies riding along with it utilize the cover provided and move up when it is safe to do so. Follow the docks along until you reach a metal gate, go through the metal gate and kill the two enemies awaiting you at the other side take cover behind the crates if you need to. Continue along the docks taking out the enemies at the appear cut across the walkway to the other side of the docks and use the cover provided and also watch out for another boat that will come from your left side proceed round the docks and exit through the gate at the other end to trigger a cut scene. After this cut scene you will be on a boat and there will be enemy boats chasing you take them out as they attack you and use bullet time when you need to when you see fabianas boat watch out for the projectiles that are being thrown at you and make sure you take them out also watch out for enemy boats coming alongside you and take them out as quickly as possible. Once you reach a certain point you will get hit by a grenade and your engine will flood you will have to cover Passos while he tries to fix it watch out for grenades at this point and make sure you take them out as soon as you see them. Once the boat is fixed there will now be enemy jeeps trying to destroy you take them out as soon as possible and make sure you aim for the gunner before anything else as this is the biggest threat. You will now start being pursued by enemy boats again make sure to aim for the gunner to reduce the threat of these boats and if you are struggling use bullet time when you feel it is necessary, continue to take out the enemy boats until you catch up with Fabiana’s boat take out the enemies that are now shooting at you and watch out for more enemy boats until you hit the boat jump sequence after this the chapter will be completed.
Chapter 6 - A Dame, a Dork, and a Drunk

As soon as the game gives you control of Max shoot dodge to the left and take cover behind one of the office desks take out the enemies as they come for you, once you have cleared the area of enemies proceed onto the next room and enter bullet time immediately to kill the majority of the enemies before getting into cover. Proceed into the next room and take cover behind the metal filing cabinet in front of you as you walk in the room take out as many enemies as you can while behind the filing cabinet go to the left to clear out the rest of the enemies and activate bullet time when it is necessary. You will now move into the next part of this room take cover behind the wall in front of you and kill the enemies in front of you and watch out for grenades try to keep moving round the room using the cover and killing enemies using blind fire to replenish your bullet time if you have used It remember to use bullet time when necessary once you have cleared this room proceed to the next room. Once you are in the next room follow the path round the house until a jeep crashes through the door once you have cleared the jeep out take cover behind one of the pillars to take out the enemies that are entering through the door. Once the LMG enemy comes through the door take out the two thugs that spawned with him and then wait for him to reload and use your bullet time to shoot the LMG enemy in the head and kill him fairly quickly. After you have watched all the cut scenes you will now be surrounded by a fiery mess that used to be a house just follow the path and disarm the enemy and watch out for the enemy round the next corner take him out and continue to follow the path round until you come across 3 enemies take these enemies out and then move the filing cabinet they were trying to move and continue following the path round until the chapter comes to an end.
Chapter 7 - A Hangover Sent Direct from Mother Nature

When this chapter starts you will be in the bar with a few enemies in front of you use your bullet time to kill the enemies as you are moving towards cover taking out the enemies as you move further into the bar move towards the other end of the bar and go into the area leading to the first tourist. Go outside and follow the alleys behind the bar until you jump down under the bridge head to the right and take cover behind the house after the cut scene as there will be several enemies on the ground and above you after you have took these out move up the stairs and take cover at the top and take out the two enemies in front of you. Now move ahead and watch out for the two enemies on the roof now jump down from the upper level and take cover on the house you dropped down from and take out the two enemies to the left of you, after you have taken these enemies out move back up to the higher level and run for the broken wall to take cover to avoid being shot and take out the enemies when you feel it is safe to do so. Now move down the alley and continue to the end where the gang tag is and shoot the lock off the door and go through the door and activate the cut scene and make sure to get rid of as many enemies as you can while you are on the chain. Once the chain takes you to the top, take cover behind the wall and take out the enemies in front of you and run across the walkway and go down the stairs. Halfway down the stairs take cover behind the metal and kill the enemies across the warehouse and then continue down the stairs and go into the room take cover below the window and take out the enemies across the balcony in front of you watch out for the enemy that comes behind you . once the enemy comes behind you move safe to cover next to the door and take them out before they enter the room go out the door and take cover behind the crates outside and take out a few more enemies and then move down the stairs and take cover behind the rusted machinery and take out a few of the enemies and then continue through the room and go up the next set of stairs and take out the enemies at the top using your bullet time and go through the door and shoot the two enemies to your left. Continue down the walkway and go up the stairs in the corridor where you took out the two enemies. Proceed up the stairs and go outside to trigger another cut scene. You will now move into a new area just follow the path round to the end of the alley and go up the stairs then follow round again and proceed down the stairs and go up the stairs across the way. Take cover behind the wall and kill the enemies that are across the walkway in front of you then move across the walkway and take out the enemy hiding in the room when you go across the walkway now proceed down the stairs. Drop down to the next area, after that nice surprise, and examine a flyer of Giovanna on the ground. Head through the door decorated with graffiti. Take out the enemy awaiting then take cover by the doorway on the left where two more enemies will be waiting. Head through the blue wooden door that leads back outside. As you move down the stairs on the right, kill the enemy that bursts through the door. There’s also another enemy that will do the same as you move ahead. Enter the next building, and immediately take cover. Kill the two enemies on the rooftops, and then continue through the building. Go through the slightly open door. Take cover along the wall. There will be an enemy on the roof. You can let him shoot a flare or shoot him. In either case the troops will arrive barricaded inside the blue painted house. Stay in cover and watch that bullet time meter climb as they fire on you. When it’s full, pick them off one by one. Drop down when the firing has stopped and three more will pop out take them out, then enter the house. There may be an enemy inside so take care here. Leave the hose and follow another dirt path to the fenced door ahead next to a bright lantern. Max will peek through the window inside. One of the gentlemen will open the door, surprised to see Max. Clear the enemies out of the house. Head up the stairs and through the metal door. It will lock behind you as a horde of enemies will fire upon you. Be careful as there will be enemies throwing Molotov’s at you. As you’re in cover popping enemies in the head, take note of the stairs in front of you. That’s where you need to go. Take cover by the stairs to take out a lone enemy ahead on a balcony. Take no chances as you head up the stairs. Move from cover to cover, as there are a lot of enemies. When you make it to the other side, an RPG will be headed straight for you. Shoot it by using bullet time, and then kill the enemy who shot the rocket. Head up the stairs to the gate to end the chapter.
Chapter 8 - Ain't No Reprievement Gonna be Found

In another flashback sequence, Passos leaves Max at the cemetery overlooking Michelle and Rose’s tombstone in the snow. You’ll be interrupted by enemies. Max will take cover and it is up to you to kill these enemies. Keep moving down the hill to get to Passos by taking cover and shooting any enemies you see. As you leave, you’ll meet up with Passos. Take out the driver of the van that is trying to run both of you over. When you turn around a flock of enemies will emerge down from the stairs take them out, then head up the stairs. Use the gravestones as cover to take out the enemies. Take the painkillers by the wooden cabinet by the gate. More goons will be waiting for you. You’ll see Passos take cover by the blue van, then take out a guy and run for it. As they’re distracted, take out as many guys as you can while you run to the van for cover. Take out the remaining enemies, and follow the road to the arched gate. A lone enemy will emerge. Take him out, then take cover by the gate. You should see more enemies ahead. Some of them will hop through the window, so be careful because they will get close, then head up the stairs toward the gate. You’ll see Passos with a gun held to his head. Shoot the guy in the head, and then take cover as more troops arrive on the circular battlefield. From here Passos will provide cover fire for you. As he shoots, move up to the next piece of cover until you get to the mausoleum. What complicates things, however, is that enemy troops will pour out from the mausoleum. Take these guys out quickly before the sniper focuses on you. As you kill the last set of enemies, head left to the gate, but push up against the mausoleum. You should see the sniper above. More enemies will be inside. They lead you to Tony’s father who is carrying a shovel. Since you have the shovel, press “R2” to take out the enemies guarding you. Now move forward and take cover at the top of the stairs. Kill the enemy heading up. Go down the stairs, and then follow the road down as you take out more enemies. Turn left into the shed, for some cover. When all the enemies are dead, head down the stairs into the morgue. Take cover by the walls as you enter. Kill the two enemies that are in your way. Head out to where the cadavers are and take care of the last guy. Move to the double doors to exit. You will reach a church. Take out the guys on the ground floor. The enemy up above, will require you to head up the stairs. When he’s dead, grab his rifle, then protect Passos as a group of enemies arrive.
Chapter 9 - Here I Was Again, Halfway Down the World

At the start of the chapter head back down the stairs, then make a right to grab some ammo, before you head out the gate. Run up the hill into the apartment building and enter it. Exit the building either by using the balcony side or by going through the door next to the blood stained wall. Move down the stairs and drop onto the dirt. You will head out onto the street. Take out the two enemies ahead, and then head out onto the street. Max will see a group of cops moving through the street. Move down the stairs passing by the execution on the left and helicopter on the right as you run further along. Max will spot Marcelo and Giovanna surrounded by cops below. Keep moving down through the inner bowels of the favela. You’ll reach a door and when you head through, you’ll see the rent-a-cops killing anyone on sight. When you regain control, take out the cop ahead of you by shooting him in the head, then take cover on top of the stairs to get a good view of who you need to kill. There will be two groups of enemies waiting at the bottom. The second group arrives after you’ve taken out the first group. Keep moving through the streets. You’ll see a civilian try to escape. Take cover by the wall and you’ll see two cops approaching slowly. Take them both out. Continue to move through the streets once again and examine the body of the dead cop to your right, crumped on some stairs. Follow the path ahead through the gate and inside a house, where you’ll scare a woman. Head outside then, head down the stairs through the hallway and through another door. Take cover by the window. You’ll be fired upon by more cops. Hop through the window after they’re dead, and head right. A helicopter will now be chasing you. Max will jump over a railing and start sliding down a rooftop. Take out the two guys in the helicopter. An RPG enemy will appear. Shoot the rocket in mid-air to take out the chopper. Max will then fall down through the next rooftop. Exit the building, and then head downstairs. You’ll see a man being harassed by the cops. Take them out and examine the body, then head down the next set of stairs, to the next gate. Head up the stairs and Max will try to sneak past the cops. Move left as Max hangs on to the railing. On the other side he’ll spot another two cops on a makeshift bridge. Take them out, and then take out their buddies that start to move in on you. Move across the bridge, hang left, and drop down. Take cover by the top of the stairs because a group of police officers will start moving towards you. When you have taken care of them, move down the stairs as you follow the path to the next door, looking for a place to lose the heat. Unfortunately, others had the same idea as they disarm you by knifepoint. They’ll be taken out, but you’ll be unarmed. Max decides to follow the convoy of cops, and decides to follow one man out of the large group. Watch the cut scene and complete the event to finish the chapter
Chapter 10 - It's Drive or Shoot, Sister

At the start of this chapter you will be with Giovanna at a bus station as she uses the phone. After she’s done talking, you head through a fence to a bus junkyard. Giovanna talks about her relationship with Passos as you take refuge inside a wrecked bus. Take out the squad of enemies as you hear Giovanna screaming. Immediately afterward she’ll start to panic as two enemies with laser sights start to target her. Take them out from their overlook on the corner of a rooftop, and then make your way to Giovanna. She’ll stay behind the dumpster as more enemies flood the area near a gas pump. Take out the sniper on top of the gas station sign, and then focus on the rest of the enemies on the ground. You can shoot the pumps to set the enemies on fire if they get close. When they’ve been taken care of, head over to Giovanna. She will find a way up a ladder into the building. As this happens more thugs appear. Max will swing on a hook. Take out all the enemies while in bullet time. When they’ve been disposed of, Max will tell Giovanna to head to next room to see if she can find an exit as Max tells her to leave him behind for now. Grab some guns from the defeated enemies. When you’re done, push the button that opens the paint booth door. Head inside and through the double doors. Max will see Giovanna on the other side. More enemies will appear. After they’re dead, Giovanna will run from more enemies on the walkway above. The walkway will fall giving way to a slow motion sequence. Take out the guys pursuing Giovanna from above, then aim for the group on your level. She will find a button to lower some stairs, but check out the place first. Follow Giovanna through the door. More enemies will be waiting below. Take cover at the top of the stairs. When they’re disposed of, head through the double doors where Giovanna is waiting for you. Giovanna will enter the next building through the window. She will then open the door for you. She’ll hear more enemies up the stairs. The room ahead is an office building. Take cover in one of the cubicles after taking out two enemies, and then wait for the rest to come to you. Head through the office when they’re gone, then head down the stairs. Take out the lone enemy ahead. Press the switch to open the security door. As they open, Giovanna runs out and a goon has her in his sights. This will trigger yet another bullet time sequence. Kill him before he kills her. As you head outside, you will see more armed thugs. Max and Giovanna enter a bus and Max asks her to drive the bus. As the bus starts moving, shoot the enemies along the journey. Along the way, shoot the RPG trooper. As Giovanna keeps driving, she’ll crash the bus through a wall and into a building. After the crash, Max tells Giovanna to head up the building and meet Passos in the helicopter. Max stays behind taking cover at the rear of the bus. Shoot the grenade as it’s thrown, when the first wave of enemies arrive, then take out the rest of the army of thugs to finish the chapter
Chapter 11 - Sun Tan Oil, Stale Margaritas and Greed

As soon as this chapter starts take cover by the doorway there will be two enemies ahead. Take them out, then watch the rest of the enemies show up. You will need to move from cover to cover inside the rooms as you move down the hallway to get a better shot. When all the enemies are dead, head to the second room on the right to check out Passos’ bed. Move forward to the controls. Max will try to send out an SOS. He’ll see a trooper leave from the door he needs to enter. As you enter the room, activate bullet time and kill all the enemies in the room. An explosion will occur right after, sucking the oxygen out of the room. Turn the valves on the engines. There are glowing red sign above two of the engines. This will open the door ahead as well as give you some breathing room. Take out the two enemies ahead, and then head for the exit. Turn around, and then head up the stairs. Kill the three enemies awaiting on the balcony, then head inside and enter the door on the left next to the exercise bike. You will come across more enemies trying to crack open a safe, hidden behind the wall. Pop out of cover, then take them out one by one. Head through the door next to the safe, then through the bedroom into the hallway. In the hallway, there are three rooms to the right. The third one closest to the exit contains three enemies. Once you have taken them out, head through the door and up the stairs. If you peek out a bit, you’ll see more enemies. Once they spot you, head back inside and take cover at the bottom of the stairs. Once you have taken out two of them, climb the stairs once again, and then turn around. Take cover to the left or right by another set of stairs. You should see the bar up ahead. As you move up, take cover by the Jacuzzi. When all enemies are dead, head inside the bar. Walk through the room and exit through the door on the left. Take cover immediately by the railing. A ton of military will start shooting at you from the port. It’s best to take these guys out before you proceed. Stay in cover. They’ll eventually go down. Move down the side of the boat, and then enter the room with the piano. Head outside, then up the winding stairs. If possible make sure you have some bullet time. Take out the guys on deck, and then watch out for the ones ahead that close the garage door. They’ll also open it when you get close. Kill those enemies, and then the double doors ahead will open. Take care of the enemy that emerges, and then take cover as you take out the rest of the enemies in the ahead. Head up to the bridge. Take out the enemies in the tower above. Another group of enemies will emerge from the tower. When the tower group is disposed of, head toward the tower for another helping of enemies. Head up the tower and take care of the enemies on the second floor. Head out toward the wire and Max will grab on to an enemy as he slides down. As you slide down, a bullet time sequence will commence. Take out the enemies ahead. Max will then immediately take cover. Kill the enemies in front of the building, then head to the door on the right. Take out the two enemies that appear here. Head out the door that leads to the lobby, then move behind the desk. Press the button to open the gate. As you head toward the stairs, kill the enemy that pops out. Now you can head up the stairs. You’ll be met with more enemies up the top of the stairs. There will be no cover initially, so you’ll have to make do. Enter the room ahead with the glass displays as you take out more enemies. Head towards the walkway, where another enemy will be waiting for you. Take him out, and then proceed up the stairs. Another enemy will be waiting as you approach. Kill him, and then head to the hallway with a drinking fountain. Continue up the stairs. Take out the enemy ahead down the long hallway past the top of the stairs. Take cover immediately to your left as there will be two enemies waiting. When you have dealt with them, head through the jungle exhibit, then take out one last guy as you make a turn, continuing your path forwards to complete the chapter.
Chapter 12 - The Great American Savior of the Poor

As this chapter starts move through the hallways, then through the laundry room. You’ll see enemies ahead putting body bags into a furnace. After the enemies have left, head through the double doors. Enter the next double door. You will take the elevator up. Head to the doorway and take cover. The two guys you saw putting body bags in the furnace will be ahead. Shoot dodge kill them along with two more of their pals. Grab the grenade launcher on the white table. Head through the next sequence of rooms with the grenade launcher. After the last guy is down, press the button on the wall to open the yellow gate. Immediately take cover. This next area splits into two paths with long range enemies at the end of each one. Move from cover to cover then let them have it when you get a clear shot. Soon you’ll reach a pit where you need to drop down to get to the other side. Be careful when you head up as there will be more enemies will be waiting at the top. Head out to the hallway. Run to the room directly across from you as you pass the hallway. Enemies will be on the right. Take them all out by shooting the gas canister behind them. It will also blast open the door. Before you head through the door. The door ahead will lead to some stairs going up. When you get to the top, move along the hallway. There’s a hole in the wall on the right. Max enters the next room and gathers evidence for Wilson. On the other side of the next door, Max enters a decrepit room containing locals in poor shape, including Serrano. Max will then keep heading up, climbing an elevator shaft. When he gets to the top, he’ll have a good view of the pool with enemies clustered together. Grab the shotgun, and take them all out. Afterwards, hide behind the counter. More enemies will emerge in the distance. Take them out as well, keeping an eye on your ammo. Move past the pool and toward the tennis court. Kill the enemies that emerge along the way and then head toward the fence where you’ll need to take cover. A lot of enemies will be outside the building decorated by graffiti. Careful when you pop out to get those headshots. As you thin there numbers, head toward the inside of the building. When the last guy is defeated head to the green double door. Max enters the next room and sees the plastic surgeon. Serrano then appears, pretty angry at what has taken place, and Max lets him do what he does best to the surgeon. In the next area, just walk through to the other side. Head to the door right past the red pillar. Max will find an arsenal in the next room full of guns and namely, C4. He starts planting them on the red pillars. When you’re in control, go back to the arsenal and grab the RPK. Plant C4 on the other two red pillars in the room. After planting the third one, a group of enemies will come down from the yellow gate. Head through the yellow gate and up the wooden ramp. You’ll see lasers ahead. You’ll now have to contend with snipers and regular troopers in a building across from you. Luckily, you’ll grab a sniper rifle. Take out the snipers first, and then deal with the rest. Move through the yellow door behind you. Take out the first wave of enemies. When they’re dead, plant more C4 on the red pillars. Eventually another group will appear. Take them out, then plant what’s left of the C4. When you get to the rooftop, you’ll have a chat with Neves about organ donation. Max decides to blow the C4. As this happens, take out the enemies. There will be moments where your aim will be off because of the collapsing building. Keep moving forward through the gate ahead after you’ve taken out the enemies. Kill anyone in your way. Head up the stairs, kill some more enemies as you approach the gate, then take cover so you can take out the enemies above. A Gatling gun enemy will then make an appearance. Take cover and aim for head until he’s down. As the building starts to topple, Max falls down and Neves will be pointing his gun at you. He’ll be taken out by, none other than Passos. You’ll escape in the helicopter just in time to see the building crumble.
Chapter 13 - A Fat Bald Dude with a Bad Temper

After all of the cut scenes at the start of the chapter Max will take cover by the door. Take out the three enemies ahead. Afterward, the barred gate will open. A fight between the criminals and cops will begin. Head through the gate and follow the tiled hallway. Kill the two enemies ahead pointing their guns at the prisoners. Move ahead into the next area. There are three enemies here to take out. Use cover and carefully make your way through to the gate, then to the door. You’ll enter a long office room where the criminals are being taken out by the cops. Take cover by the pillar. Take out the shotgun wielding cops as they approach. Be careful of the ones with helmets, they require more than one shot. Enter the room ahead next to the metal door with the flashing yellow light above it. Grab a painkiller, and then push the button next to the window to open the door. As you head outside, you’ll see a thug wielding a LAW. He’ll be taken out by an armored car. Move from cover to cover when the gun atop the armored car stops firing, until you get to the LAW. It will be on the right side behind the cop car. Fire the LAW to take out the armored car, and then wait for the cops to arrive. Take them out using headshots, then head inside the small parking garage. Head towards the double doors. Take out the lone cop trying to take him out, then head up the staircase. When you reach the alley, take out the three cops ahead of you, then enter the double doors inside where you’ll enter a red striped hallway. It will lead to a locker room. Proceed to the exercise room. Wait by the door and take out the enemies in the room, then take cover by the pillar in the middle of the room as you wait for more to arrive. When they’re dead, head through the red double doors. As you enter the next room, there will be a shootout. Wait till it’s died down to make your move. There’s a kitchen on the left and an office on the right. The enemies will flank, so act accordingly. When you’re done, head through the double doors. In the next room, you’ll be in a lobby of sorts with a huge planter in the middle. Take cover by the pillar, and then take out the two enemies. Now head to the control room next to the closed gate. More Cops will arrive by elevator. These guys are highly armored. Take them out, then head up the elevator where they came from. From here, move forward and watch out for the guy that pops out from behind the desk. Head through the double doors, enter the room, and then take out the thugs in the office. Soon a heavily armored enemy will appear. He’s a bit tough, but as long as you aim for the head, you’re good. Head through the double doors where the armored enemy came out from. You’ll be in a briefing room. You’ll then enter a storeroom, where more enemies are waiting. Take cover by the shelves and wait for them to come to you. As you approach the barred gate, another trooper will arrive. Back up, and then take him out as well. You can grab some ammo in the armoury before leaving. Head through the now open gate. It will lead to a stairwell. Tear gas will be thrown. Shoot the vent opening on the wall, and then head through. You’ll fall through the duct and surprise an enemy. Shoot him in the head as you scramble to get your gun. Head through the server room. Max will start rifling through CDs. He finds the recording from the Branco office incident learning who shot him. Head through the glass doors by the vending machine. Take cover and take out the enemies that crash through the windows in the forensics lab. Grab their guns if you need some ammo, and then exit the room. You’ll meet the guy who shot Branco. He’ll leave quickly, but as Max follows, enemies will be across the building waiting to shoot him through the windows. Max uses a cart and slides parallel to the window. In this awesome bullet time sequence, shoot the enemies on the balcony as you slide head left. When you reach the natural stopping point, take cover by the pillars and take out the rest. Soon enough, the barred gate opens. Watch out for the enemy that enters. Enter the room, and then take cover by the doorway, aiming down into the next room. When the enemies are dead, move through the next room. Grab what you can from the arsenal, and then head to the control room to open the security doors. The doors will lead you to a training room. Take cover immediately and watch out for the enemy right on top of you, to your right in the tower, as you take out the enemies in front. Keep moving through the training facility taking out enemies as they come. Watch out for the one that pops out as you exit. You’ll now enter the shooting range with a horde of enemies in front. Take them out one by one. Also, like in the previous room, one lone enemy will emerge at the exit. Kill him. Move through to the utility room. Exit the room through the red door with the light above it. Max will try to sneak out into the next room, but will get spotted. He’ll take cover on the top floor next to a staircase that leads down. Take out the two enemies heading up to your position, then head down to the stairs. As you head down, an enemy will pop up. Take him out, and then take cover by the pillar, next to the elevators. Hold up here and aim down the room as you take out the enemies. When you have killed them you’ll face the man who took down Branco. Take out the two guys on the ground first, and then aim for the tiles above the boss. When they collapse, he’ll move positions and bring two more troopers. Take out the troopers, and then continue to take the ceiling down above him. After the second time, you’ll have a clear shot at his head. Take the chance to put a bullet in him. Max enters Becker’s office upstairs to end the chapter.
Chapter 14 - One Card Left to Play

Take cover when you can because you won’t last long riding the conveyor belt, but you can take out some enemies as you go. When the enemies on the ground are dead, head through the small room that has some stairs behind it to get to the second level. Take cover as you get on top to take out more enemies. After you’ve disposed of them all, head to the control room. Now you can head through the blue door. You’ll enter a hallway. Take out the enemies as you follow the path through. You can use the two rooms on the left side to gain angles. The second one contains a painkiller, exit the hallway. It will lead into the bathroom. Grab two more painkillers before you leave. You will now enter the terminal and take cover behind some luggage. It’s a straight shot down, so shoot anyone down who comes at you. As you keep moving forward, enemies will appear on the balcony above. Take cover, and then take them out. When you enter the next section, take the escalator up on the right, and then hang left on the balcony. You’ll have a height advantage here, so make use of it. After the first wave is down, move ahead to trigger another group of enemies. They’ll emerge from the garage door. Go back to the balcony for some cover and wait till they start to approach you. After the fire fight, head to the garage door. Press the switch to open the gate. Move through the next area. Take out the three enemies. There’s cover right next to the cabinet use it to Take out the enemies, then take the escalator down. Two more enemies will be waiting. Shoot them in the head. When you reach the bottom of the escalator the lights will go out. Kill the enemies in the dark. You can use the tram on the right for flanking purposes if you would like. When the enemies are dead, head to the control panel to turn the power back on. As it’s restored a wave of enemies appear. They’ll throw smoke grenades, so be careful if some decide to charge toward you. Take them out, grab the bottle of painkillers in the room, and then enter the tram. Another tram running parallel houses a group of troopers. Put bullets in them as the trams are riding alongside each other. When they’re gone, the tram will exit the tunnel. Troops from a helicopter above enter your tram. The tram is essentially a long hallway so run to the opposite side of the enemies and take them out before they get close. When the troopers are dead, Max finds out that his tram he’s riding on is headed for a dead end. Take out the guys as you make it to the next train. The train will stop. Leave the train and you’ll see Max sneak past enemies toward the Branco hangar. Max will make himself known. You’ll see Becker has a shield and tosses out grenades from his grenade launcher from time to time. There will be a lot of enemies here. Stay in cover and take them all out. Always watch out for Becker. When you kill the last enemy, Max will jump toward Becker and he’ll toss a grenade. Shoot the grenade as he releases it. He’ll get blown back by the blast. As Max talks it seems you have choice to kill him. If you let him finish talking, he won’t kill Becker. Afterward, Wilson drives in shouting about the plane. Max will pick up the grenade launcher. Take out the troops and vehicles as you and Wilson drive across the runway. Take out the jeeps and the helicopter. The armored vehicle will take multiple shots. You will then see the plane. Two shots will take it out to end the game.

Towards the end of the third chapter you will have to cover your teammate Passos with a sniper rifle. To get the trophy / achievement you must make every bullet count. You may not miss a single shot - every bullet has to kill an enemy! Always activate your bullet time when aiming. It slows down time and makes it easier to hit the target. If you miss a shot then pause the game and click "Exit". Restart the checkpoint in the chapter select menu (only available if you completed the chapter before).

During chapter 5 you will have to jump down a rusty old boat. Watch out for an explosive, brown colored barrel on some set of stairs at the back of the room. Once you have found the barrel aim close to it, but miss a shot to alert the enemies. Wait a second until you hear a sound that indicates you have been spotted and shoot the barrel before the jump sequence begins. If you shoot the barrel too early it will explode before you are in the air (which wouldn't count towards the trophy / achievement). This requires some good timing and might take a couple of tries. 3 enemies will get killed by the explosion. The remaining 4 need to be taken out with gunfire. Equip the Micro 9mm before you enter the garage with the boat. That should make it a little easier to kill the enemies quickly. You need to have free aim enabled! Just watch out for the the rocket launcher guy at the end of the tunnel. After he is dead, a rocket should explode and kill most (or in the best case all) of the enemies around him. If any enemies survive the explosion then turn on your bullet time and take them out quickly. You can also switch from free aim to hard lock in the chapter select menu. If you have trouble then try this option. Increasing the aiming speed and aiming acceleration also helps a lot (pause menu - settings - controls). Restart the last checkpoint if you miss a target.

At the very end of chapter 12 you will be on a rooftop. Every couple seconds the screen gets shaky which makes it a lot harder to aim on enemies. Take out the first group of enemies and pick up one of their shotguns. Shotguns make it a lot easier to hit a nearby enemy in the head! Once a tremor starts (when everything begins to shake) the enemies will fall to the ground. Activate bullet time and aim for the head. The closer you are to the enemy, the easier it gets. It's highly recommended to do this on easy difficulty. You will receive less damage and your bullet time lasts longer. Reload the last checkpoint if you didn't get a headshot.

Use your painkillers wisely when your health is low by pressing

There are a total of 84 golden guns parts to collect throughout the game which unlocks 28 shooters in total. Once collected the shooters can then be used in multiplayer mode. A number of parts are located throughout each chapter as detailed below:

- Location #1 - PT92 (1/3) - Go to the end of the corridor after the very first shootout and to on the left by the window.
- Location #2 - PT92 (2/3) - After exiting the lift into the lobby, go to the far side and check in front of the planter.
- Location #3 - PT92 (3/3) - After opening the car park shutter, check the corner straight ahead to your right.
- Location #4 - .38 Revolver (1/3) - In the opening club area, climb onto the stage and check the DJ area.
- Location #5 - Mini-30 (1/3) - After the shootout in the VIP area, look behind the bar.

- Location #32 - MD-97L (2/3) - once the office lockdown kicks in and you speak to Branco, turn around and check at the bottom of the fountain.

The grind figures will accumulate whilst playing the story mode on all difficulties and they will not reset when you start a new game. You can also restart certain checkpoints over and over again to speed up the process as all kills will count even if you don't reach a checkpoint and restart. Complete the below grinds to unlock this trophy.
- Bloodbath - 2500 kills (You will easily get this naturally over time)
- Head Master - 1000 head shots (You should get this naturally over time otherwise try and aim for head shots in bullet time/shootdodge)

You will need to complete all the below online multiplayer playlists. The modes can be done in either Free Aim or Soft Aim or a mixture of both. You will need to firstly get 100 kills to unlock the large team deathmatch and large deathmatch playlist whilst the other remaining playlist will be available to play. You don't need to win, you just need to finish all the below playlists and the trophy will unlock once the last one has been completed.

- Survivour - A showdown style game mode but each team has limited lives.

- Passage - One gang flees for their life as they're mercilessly hunted down.
- Siege - With their back to the wall, one gang must hold on to 3 territories, one after the other.
- Short fuse - One gang must arm one of two bombs while the other tries to protect the bomb sites from destruction.

This will be one of the first online trophies that you will earn and it can be earnt on any of the online public multiplayer modes. All you need to do is either kill another player or stand next to a recently killed player and hold the
button whilst standing next to them. Keep holding the
button until you see that the small circle icon that appears above the dead player has completed a 360 degree circle to complete the looting feature. You will loot that player for cash, adrenaline or painkillers. The trophy will pop as soon as you have looted your first dead player.
Note: The looting feature will not work if the dead player has been looted already by another player.

To gain access to the wager option you will need to firstly cumulatively earn $2000 whilst in multiplayer mode. Once you have earned the required amount, you will need to play the gang wars mode. At the start of each round, you will have the option to place a wager on a player getting the first kill within that round or something similar to that. Each wager will cost $100 and the game will provide you with three players to choose from for you to place your wager on.
Note: Next to each player you will see the amount you will win if your wager is correct and the amount won is decided by the players position, score, rank etc. The lower the amount the better chance that player will win the wager.

Whilst in the multiplayer menu select the gang wars option. The gang wars mode consists of five rounds, consisting of two teams and each round will be different game. You need to stay with the same team and your team will need to win all five rounds in one go to get this trophy.

You will need to get to rank 50 to unlock this trophy which will take around 30-35 hours depending on your skill. There are ways of getting extra XP and cash for loadout items to speed it up:

Note: You will need 619'500 XP to reach rank 50. Once you reach rank 50, you have the option to pass into Legend. The option to pass into legend appears on the multiplayer menu below playlists and private matches, and this option is only available when you are rank 50 and a new Legend level is available. In order to reach maximum rank in Max Payne 3, you must level up 300 times (six times through levels 1-50) and pass through all 5 ranks of Legend.

- Vendatta - When a player kills you twice you can place a vendetta on them earning more XP if you kill them before they do.
- Hardcore - Hardcore playlists earn you more XP but you need 1000 kills to unlock the playlists.
- Crews - Playing in a crew will yield extra XP in matches and improve team skills.
- Wagers - Placing a wager on which player will get the first kill in gangwars earns you extra cash.
- Grinds - Completing the grind accomplishments will earn you extra XP.
- Free Aim - Free Aim playlists will earn 20% higher XP than Soft Lock and Hardcore playlists will also give you 40% higher XP in Free Aim.
Note: You will need 619'500 XP to reach rank 50. Once you reach rank 50, you have the option to pass into Legend. This trophy can be earnt in two different ways in any public multiplayer mode. The first way is by pure luck where you kill an opponent on the opposing team and that same player is on your friends list. The second and more quicker way is to invite as many of your friends into a public match and follow the same above method.
