[top]Tips & Strategies

General Tips
  • The three different truck presets--"Crowd Pleaser", "Piston Popper", and "Throttle Out" actually do have a noticeable impact on the performance of your truck, so don't ignore them. The game suggests which to use when and will remember which preset you like to use for each type of event.
  • Using the button to control the steering of the rear wheels is optional. I found that I only used this feature for tight turns at very slow speeds as using it at high speeds made me drift and usually spin all the way around, costing me quite a bit of time.

Tips by Race Type
Circuit Races
  • Be smart about passing opponents and give them a wide berth. It is difficult to muscle another truck out of the way and attempting to do so will slow you down considerably.
  • You can cut corners so long as you don't' get too far off the course, in which case the game will respawn you.
  • It's faster to respawn than it is to go for a Big Save.

Freestyle
  • Try hard not to respawn and you'll be rewarded with 30 seconds of Bonus Time.
  • Points are awarded for destroying objects, hang-time in the air, total number of stunts, variety of stunts, and keeping enough control over your truck so that you don't have to respawn. It seems the easiest to miss is doing enough stunts in the short time frame, so at the end of your run just kill time by alternating between Donuts and Cyclones, all in the same spin direction.

Gate Rush
  • You have to bee pretty accurate with your truck to hit one of the gates, so aim for the middle to be sure you hit it.
  • Don't rush through the course! Take your time to line up jumps and get up/down to the appropriate speed. Missing a gate can cost lots of extra time.
  • The final gate you pick up adds two seconds to your final time. So if you're trying to best 25 seconds and you pick up the final gate with 24 seconds left, you'll finish in first place with 26 seconds.

Stadium Races
  • Your only goal is to get to the finish line before your opponent, so boost as much as you can.
  • It's faster to respawn than it is to go for a Big Save.
  • If there is a jump right before the line, just go all out. You don't have to be on the ground to cross the finish line, nor do you even have to have control over your vehicle.
  • You can cut corners so long as you don't get too far off the course, in which case the game will respawn you.

Stunt Challenges
  • The game doesn't necessarily start you facing the right ramp for attempting the trick you're required to do. Even on Hard there is enough time to attempt the tougher tricks 3-4 times, even if the ramp you want is on the other side of the arena.
  • It's faster to respawn than it is to go for a Big Save.

Team Races
  • It doesn't matter which computer teammate you choose.
  • Your computer teammate will almost always rocket out to the front of the pack. Be especially careful when passing him because if you knock him back to fourth, he will not recover unless you set aside time to take out the other team.
  • Computer-controlled trucks hardly ever pass each other without you knocking them around. If you're on the first lap and you're in the top spot but your teammate is in the last spot, you're headed for a tie (and a failure) unless you can take out the other team and get your teammate into a better position.
  • It's faster to respawn than it is to go for a Big Save.

Time Crunch
  • Don't worry if you miss a gate or two as there are plenty of them on the course.
  • It's faster to respawn than it is to go for a Big Save.

Specific Stunt Tips

  • Back Flips - You want find a very steep jump (like a quarter-pipe) and line yourself up perfectly straight in front of it. When you're ready, mash the nitrous (). Pull back on the left stick to increase rotation rate.
  • Barrel Rolls - You want to get going pretty fast and launch off the side of a big jump and press the left stick to the left/right to increase the rotation enough to get credit for this trick.
  • Cyclones - Hold the left stick right/left, hold , and mash . Alternate these with Donuts to get your stunt count up quickly.
  • Donuts - Hold the left stick right/left, hold , and mash . Alternate these with Cyclones to get your stunt count up quickly.
  • Flat Spins - You want to find a medium/big jump and approach it at a high rate of speed. Before you launch off the ramp, mash and press both the left and the right stick in the same direction (left or right) to initiate the spin. Hold these controls until you land.
  • Front Flips - You want find a very big jump with a medium-grade incline and line yourself up perfectly straight in front of it. When you're ready, launch yourself off. Push forward on the left stick to increase rotation rate. Sometimes landing these requires some luck.
Pogos - You want find a medium/big jump and line yourself up perfectly straight in front of it. When you're ready, launch off it at fast pace. Adjust the left stick as necessary and try to land on the back wheels with your truck at a 60-degree angle to the ground.
  • Sky Wheelies - You want to find a big jump and launch off. Pull back on the left stick and try to get the truck vertical in the air.
  • Slap Wheelies - These can be tricky. You want to find a big jump, launch off, and land with the front wheels first so that the truck rocks back onto it's back wheels. As soon as it gets to it's back wheels, mash and pull back on the left stick to do a wheelie.
  • Stoppies - You want to land on your back wheels so that the truck rotates forward and gets up on its front wheels. When it's on its front wheels, hit the brakes (). Go off the ramp facing straight and be careful to not hit the brakes too early.
  • Wheelies - You want to find a straight stretch of a course and come to a complete stop. Mash and pull back on the left stick. When you're vertical, don't release the controls until you get credit for the trick.

[top]Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits

This game is pretty straightforward and there are no known cheat codes. The closest thing to an exploit is the fact that you can really cut corners during races so long as you don't get too far off the track or try to cut out entire turns or sections of the course.

[top]Roadmap

NOTE: There are no missable trophies in this game and only two difficulty-related trophies so you can take just about any path you want to get the platinum. Below I will outline some general steps that will get you there.

Step 1: Play Career Mode and finish a dozen or so events on Easy so you can get the hang of the controls for the game. Pick one truck you like and don't change it or customize it for the next twenty events so you can earn Biggest Fan.

Step 2: After you're comfortable with the controls, start playing events on Hard. You can replay events you're good at or continue to sweep through new events. You can move the difficulty back down to Easy whenever you like, but at some point you'll need to get a gold medal on 20 different events in order to earn Tough and Pro Driver.

Step 3: Earn gold medals on the National Tours as they become available. Winning these gets you tons of XP and you'll get closer to all the XP-requirement trophies as well as United Champion sooner in your Career.

Step 4: Finish earning gold medals on all events in all eight cities and all National Tours. Doing so will get you all of the XP trophies, some of the specific stunt-type trophies, and all three gold trophies in this game.

Step 5: Mop Up. If you're missing trophies for Big Saves, certain types of stunts, or other trophies, see their individual explanations below or PM me for help.

The controls are straightforward though... is the accelerator, is the brake/reverse, and hits your nitro boost. Just have fun messing around and try to get a feel for the controls/handling of the trucks. When you finish the event and press to advance through some menus the game will save and your trophy will pop.

Press to equip the accessory and your trophy will pop.

[top]
Speed Demon
Win a gold medal in 1 Circuit Racing event.

Circuit Races are one of several kinds of events you can compete in during Career Mode. Circuit Races require you to complete two or three laps around a track while racing against three computer components. Win a gold medal in these events by crossing the finish line before your competitors. You can earn this trophy on any difficulty setting, including Easy. The "Throttle Out" truck preset is recommended for this type of event, but you can use whichever preset you want. Simply finish one Circuit Race in first place to pop this trophy.

[top]
Piston Popper
Win a gold medal in 1 Stadium Racing event.

Stadium Races are one of several kinds of events you can compete in during Career Mode. Win a gold medal in these events by defeating two consecutive opponents in lightning-quick one lap sprints. Best each of your opponents' times to place first and win a gold medal in this event. You can earn this trophy on any difficulty setting, including Easy. The "Piston Popper" truck preset is recommended for this type of event, but you can use whichever preset you want. Simply finish one Stadium Racing event in first place to pop this trophy.

[top]
Crowd Pleaser
Win a gold medal in 1 Freestyle event.

Freestyle competitions are one of several kinds of events you can compete in during Career Mode. Win a gold medal in these events by scoring more points than any of your competitors in the allotted time. Best each of your opponents' scores to place first and win a gold medal in this event. Try to damage all the obstacles (cars/vans, mostly), do a variety of tricks, and land a few aerial tricks before the first 90 seconds are up. If you manage to make it to the end of the first 90 seconds without respawning you'll get an extra 30 seconds on the clock. You can earn this trophy on any difficulty setting, including Easy. The "Crowd Pleaser" truck preset is recommended for this type of event, but you can use whichever preset you want. Simply finish one Freestyle event in first place to pop this trophy.

[top]
Time Is On My Side
Win a gold medal in 1 Time Crunch event.

Time Crunch races are one of several kinds of events you can compete in during Career Mode. Win a gold medal in these events by finishing one lap of a racetrack with more time left on the clock than your competitors. As you race you'll collect silver, triangular time gates that add two seconds to your available race time. There are quite a few of these gates and you don't have to pick up all of them to score well. Best each of your opponents' times to place first and win a gold medal in this event. You can earn this trophy on any difficulty setting, including Easy. The "Throttle Out" truck preset is recommended for this type of event, but you can use whichever preset you want. Simply finish one Time Crunch event in first place to pop this trophy.

[top]
Shake and Bake
Win a gold medal in 1 Team Racing event.

Team Races are one of several kinds of events you can compete in during Career Mode. Win a gold medal in these events by finishing the race on the team with the most points. You can pick a computer-controlled to be on your team and you each score points at the end of every lap by finishing in different positions. Finish a lap in first place to earn 10 points, second place to earn 8 points, third place to earn 6 points, and fourth place to earn 3 points. At the end, the points you earned plus the points your teammate earned need to add to a number greater than that of the other team. If you tie their score, you fail this event.

Usually your computer teammate leaps out into first place, even on the Hard difficulty setting. You can pass him and get into first for yourself if you like, but try not to take him out. The computer players rarely pass each other so once your teammate reaches a position (other than first) he'll most likely stay there. Note that if you finish every lap in first and your teammate finishes every lap in last, your total score will equal that of the computer team and you'll fail the event.

Simply finish one Team Racing event with the most team points to pop this trophy.

[top]
Gate Crusher
Win a gold medal in 1 Gate Rush event.

Gate Rush events are one of several kinds of events you can compete in during Career Mode. Win a gold medal in these events by driving through each of the silver triangular "gates" set up in your freestyle arena. Note that you must drive through each gate before the next one will appear and usually they aren't that far away. Collect all gates with more time left on the clock than the previous #1 spot on the leaderboard to earn a gold medal in these events. The "Piston Popper" truck preset is recommended for this type of event, but you can use whichever preset you want. Simply finish one Gate Rush event in first place to pop this trophy.

Note that the last gate you drive through adds two seconds to your time also, so if you're trying to best 25 seconds and you pick up the final gate with 24 seconds left, you'll finish in first place with 26 seconds.

[top]
Fast Learner
Win a gold medal in 1 Stunt Challenge event.

Stunt Challenge events are one of several kinds of events you can compete in during Career Mode. The first part of each event is a tutorial where you'll learn/practice new stunts. The second part of each event requires you to perform a few of the stunts you just learned within a time limit set by your competitors. Win a gold medal in this event by performing the required tricks quicker than all of your opponents. Simply finish one Stunt Challenge event in first place to pop this trophy.

[top]
Gearhead
Customize more than 5 monster trucks.

Customize a truck by visiting Digger's Dungeon (off the map in Career Mode) and pressing to change the truck category to "Custom Monster Trucks". Select a truck and add something. You only need to add/change one component to have "customized" a truck. Simply add/change one component to five different trucks to pop this trophy. If you haven't unlocked enough of the customizable trucks yet, just continue finishing events in Career Mode to earn access to more trucks.

[top]
Training Wheels
Reach level 5.

As you finish events in Career Mode you'll earn more and more XP. There are 20 possible levels and it won't take much XP to get to level 5. Playing on Hard nets you more XP, but don't feel rushed as it's impossible to earn a gold medal in all events (required for platinum) without leveling all the way up to 20 along the way. Finishing in first place in any of the National Tours earns you TONS of XP, so you can compete in those events as they become available rather than saving them to the end if you want to level up faster.

[top]
Gas Tank Is Half Full
Reach level 10.

As you finish events in Career Mode you'll earn more and more XP. There are 20 possible levels and it won't take much XP to get to level 10.

[top]
Heartbreak Hill
Reach level 15.

As you finish events in Career Mode you'll earn more and more XP. There are 20 possible levels and it won't take much XP to get to level 15.

[top]
Beastmaster
Reach level 20.

As you finish events in Career Mode you'll earn more and more XP. There are 20 possible levels and it won't take much XP to get to level 20.

[top]
Sweep
Win a gold medal in 3 events in a row.

The first events that are available are easy so this trophy might pop after you finish the first three events you play. If not, just pick three events you excel at (Stadium Races, Freestyle, and Stunt Challenges are pretty easy) and finish in first place in all three of them to pop this trophy.

[top]
Defy Authority
Defeat any two champion monster trucks in their home event.

One particular event in each of the eight cities will pit you against a Champion Monster Truck in addition to other monster trucks. The difficulty of events when facing Champion trucks is negligible relative to facing normal monster trucks. The Champion truck events are denoted by little images of the local Champion in the event picture. Finish two Champion events in first place to pop this trophy.

[top]
Can't be Stopped!
Perform 200 Big Saves in total.

This trophy may require some grinding, depending on how often you respawn during Career Mode as opposed to going for Big Saves. These stunts can be earned in every event on the map. If you need to farm Big Saves, pick a freestyle event you're comfortable with and go over ramps with only two of your four wheels to roll your truck onto its side. Perform as many Big Saves as you can before the time runs out. Don't worry if you have to sacrifice your 30 seconds of Bonus Time by respawning. You can restart the event by hitting after you finish. This does not forfeit the Big Save (and other stunt) totals you racked up. Accumulate 200 Big Saves to pop this trophy.

[top]
Tough
Win a gold medal in 5 different events on hard difficulty.

The Hard difficulty setting is only a little more challenging than Easy. If you're struggling, try Stadium Racing events as they require by far the least amount of time of any of the event types and you just need a few quick, good runs to earn a gold medal. Also, try Team Racing events. Even on Hard, your computer teammate will usually rocket out into first place, so all you'd need to do is finish one lap in better than fourth place (assuming he stays in first the whole time) to beat the other team and earn a gold medal.

[top]
I Don't Get Dizzy
Perform 100 Donut or Cyclone stunts in total.

Remember that you perform donuts by holding , , and the left stick either right or left and you perform cyclones by holding , , and the left stick either right or left. You can get credit for performing these stunts in any type of event. If you need to farm stunts for this trophy, choose a Circuit Race and just ignore the actual race itself as the event doesn't end until you finish all of the required laps. Just keep alternating between donuts and cyclones in one direction until this trophy pops.

[top]
I Think I'm Gonna Be Sick
Perform 50 Flat Spin or Barrel Roll stunts in total.

Remember that you perform Flat Spins by hitting a ramp and pressing and holding and both sticks to the right or left before you launch off the ramp. Perform Barrel Roll stunts by launching off the side of a ramp and holding one or both sticks in the same direction. You can get credit for performing these stunts in any type of event. If you need to farm stunts for this trophy, choose a Circuit Race and just ignore the actual race itself as the event doesn't end until you finish all of the required laps. Just keep performing these tricks until this trophy pops.

[top]
Showoff
Perform 50 Wheelie, Slap Wheelie, or Stoppie stunts in total.

Remember that you perform Wheelies by coming to a stop, pulling back on the left stick and mashing . Perform Sky Wheelies by launching off a ramp and pulling back on the left stick. Perform Stoppies by hitting a ramp at a medium pace and getting up on your front wheels and pressing . You can get credit for performing these stunts in any type of event. If you need to farm stunts for this trophy, choose a Circuit Race and just ignore the actual race itself as the event doesn't end until you finish all of the required laps. Just keep performing these tricks until this trophy pops.

[top]
Impossible!
Perform 25 Front or Back Flip stunts in total.

Remember that you perform Back Flips by lining up straight in front of a quarter pipe and mashing while pulling back on the left stick. Performing Front Flips requires a very big jump at a moderate incline. You need to launch off the ramp and press forward on the left stick, and probably get a good bounce to get credit for a Front Flip. You can get credit for performing these stunts in any type of event. If you need to farm stunts for this trophy, choose a Circuit Race and just ignore the actual race itself as the event doesn't end until you finish all of the required laps. Just keep performing these tricks until this trophy pops.

[top]
Port of Call
Win a gold medal in at least 1 event in each stadium.

There are between six and eight events in each of eight stadiums. Just finish in first place in one event in each of the eight stadiums to pop this trophy.

[top]
Be Your Own Boss
Win a gold medal in every event of 1 stadium.

At some point you'll need to earn a gold medal on every event in the game, so this trophy will pop as you work towards that goal. Early in your Career, only a few stadiums are unlocked and only a few events are available in each stadium. You'll probably unlock all eight events in Minneapolis before unlocking all the events at any other stadium, so you can give priority to earning gold in each of those events in order to unlock this trophy sooner rather than later if you like.

[top]
Yard Sale
Lose 2 wheels of a monster truck in an event.

Launching off jumps and landing hard on your wheels and slamming into walls causes damage to your wheels. Over time your wheels get loose and wobbly. Eventually, they fall off. This trophy will probably pop during natural gaming, but if not, pick a Circuit Race and ignore the actual race as the event doesn't end until you complete all of the required laps. Keep landing hard off of jumps or slamming into walls until two of your wheels have come off. Note that you don't have to lose two wheels at the same time to pop this trophy.

[top]
Monster Mash
Destroy 250 obstacles in the game.

This trophy will pop during natural gaming. Some examples of obstacles include cars, vans, and buses. Run into or over them and cause damage to them to get them to count towards this trophy.

[top]
Tricktionary
Perform 10 types of stunts in one event.

This trophy can sound daunting at first. Attempting to perform 10 different stunts in one Stunt Challenge or Freestyle event can be pretty challenging. A better place to earn this trophy is a Circuit Race. Just ignore the actual race as you have unlimited time so long as you don't complete all of the required laps. Find a ramp you can perform a variety of tricks on and just have a little jam session. It may be good to write down the tricks you perform as you go. There are twelve different stunts to choose from: Wheelies, Sky Wheelies, Slap Wheelies, Stoppies, Pogos, Front Flips, Back Flips, Barrel Rolls, Flat Spins, Donuts, Cyclones, and Big Saves.

[top]
You're the Best Around!
Win a gold medal in 20 events.

Your goal should be to earn a gold medal in every event on the map so this trophy will pop along the way. You can earn these gold medals on any difficulty, including Easy.

[top]
Path of Destruction
Destroy 500 obstacles in the game.

This trophy will pop during natural gaming. Some examples of obstacles include cars, vans, and buses. Run into or over them and cause damage to them to get them to count towards this trophy.

[top]
Veteran Driver
Earn 9,000 xp in a single event.

This trophy sounds tough to earn, but it isn't. Towards the end of the Career Mode you'll have access to events in Las Vegas. The last event in that stadium is a Team Race, and if you bump the difficulty up to Hard, you'll get 9,240 XP just for winning the event. You can also play that same event on Easy and just be sure to perform a few tricks, wreck all the obstacles, and avoid respawning too often to earn more than 9,000 XP.

[top]
Pro Driver
Win gold medals in 20 different events on hard difficulty.

This trophy and Tough are the only difficulty-dependent trophies in the game. The Hard difficulty setting is not much more challenging than Easy and you can pick your own strategy here. For example, you can start out on Hard right from the beginning, or you can get a feel for the game on Easy and then move up to Hard, or you can save this trophy for last and replay events you dominated on Easy, but change the difficulty to Hard.

The Stunt Challenges, Stadium Races, Freestyle Events, and Team Races are the easiest events on Hard. Note that you have to earn gold on Hard for 20 different events to pop this trophy.

[top]
Split a Second
Win a gold medal in 1 Racing event with the lead less than 0.5 seconds.

Choose a Circuit Race on Easy difficulty and just follow right behind the leader until the very last second, then mash to get around him and pop this trophy. Or, you can dominate the race and then wait on the home stretch, let somebody pass you, and then pass them back at the last second.

[top]
Freestyle Domination!
Win a gold medal in 1 Freestyle event with a score higher than 40.

Every Freestyle event has a total of 45 points available and earning 41+ of them will take some effort. I'd start out with a Wheelie, then do a few Donuts and Cyclones, then mash all the cars/vans/buses in the stadium. Then I'd go off a few big jumps to get something like a Flat Spin, Pogo, Barrel Roll, or Stoppie. Or, if there's a quarter-pipe nearby, do a Back Flip as those are pretty easy. You only need 5-6 different stunts to get full marks in the Stunt Variety category, so after you get one of the tougher tricks you can just go back to Donuts/Cyclones. Just keep alternating between Donuts and Cyclones and get as many in as you can. Try not to respawn so you can earn your 30 seconds of Bonus Time.

[top]
Still Got Three More
Finish a Freestyle event with a wheel detached and win.

Pick any Freestyle event and spend the first 60 seconds earning as many points as you can. Then try to lose a wheel before the time runs out. Slamming into walls is a good strategy since you'll stay upright even if you lose a wheel. When you've only got three wheels left, just hang out until the clock runs down and if you've scored enough points to finish in first place, this trophy will pop. The Freestyle event in Minnesota only requires 20 points to get a gold medal.

[top]
Advance Auto Parts Upgrade
Unlock all Advance Auto Parts performance upgrades.

Advance Auto Parts Upgrades unlock as you play/win events through Career Mode. The upgrades install themselves automatically when you unlock them. This trophy will pop while you're working on earning gold medals in all the events in career mode so you won't need to set aside time to concentrate on it.

[top]
Unstoppable
Cross the finish line with a wheel detached and win the race.

Timing is key here, as is the distance you'll need to travel between the time your wheel comes off and the time you reach the finish line. You must pop a wheel off right before the finish line and still finish in first place to pop this trophy. Ideally you'll be right about to lose a wheel as you approach the finish and then you can slam into a wall or launch off a jump and slam into the ground, then limp across the line.

nemec8 points out that you can do this more easily in a team race with another player. You focus on losing a wheel right before the end while your partner focuses on winning the race. You will get this trophy that way too.

[top]
United Champion
Win both the Southern and Western National Tour.

The Southern and Western National Tours unlock as you progress through Career Mode earning gold medals on events. Each of these Tour events have a tournament-like structure. You'll compete in three rounds of events and earn points in each round based on your rank at the end of that round. Round 1 requires you to compete in a series of Stadium Races, round 2 requires you to race in two Circuit Races, and round 3 requires you to compete in one Freestyle event. You don't have to win every stage of each round, but you do have to have the highest points total at the end of the tournament to win the Tour.

Win both of these Tour tournaments to pop this trophy.

[top]
Bodyshop Wizard
Fully customize one monster truck; place an accessory, vinyl, or decal in every area.

From the Main Menu, go to Career Mode -> Digger's Dungeon and hit to find the "Custom Monster Trucks" category. Press to enter the Workbench and customize that truck. For this trophy you need to place an Accessory on the Front, Middle, and Rear of your truck, and you'll need to place a vinyl/decal on the Front, Side, Rear, and Top of your truck.

[top]
Biggest Fan
Attend 20 events in a row without changing the monster truck.

You can use the first truck you choose in the first 20 events you play, or you can use one truck in any 20 consecutive events. If you find that you need to farm this trophy, choose a truck and play 20 Stadium Races as these take less than 60 seconds from start to finish.

[top]
King of the Monsters
Defeat all 8 champion monster trucks once in their home event.

One particular event in each of the eight cities will pit you against a Champion Monster Truck in addition to other monster trucks. The difficulty of events when facing Champion trucks is negligible relative to facing normal monster trucks. The Champion truck events are denoted by little images of the local Champion in the event picture. Finish all eight Champion events in first place to pop this trophy.

[top]
World Finals Champion
Win all National Tours.

National Tours include the Southern National Tour, the Western National Tour, and the World Finals. All three Tour events have the same tournament-style structure.

Win all three of these Tour tournaments to pop this trophy.

[top]
They're All My Farovite
Collect all monster trucks, accessories, upgrades, and decals.

You unlock all of these items as you earn gold medals on events in Career Mode. Working towards earning gold medals on every event (including the National Tours) will pop this trophy. If you save the National Tours for last, you'll earn this trophy at the same time you earn Monster Jam Master.

[top]
Monster Jam Master
Win a gold medal in all events.

You need to earn a gold medal on every event in each of the eight stadiums AND all three National Tour events. You can earn every single one of these medals on Easy if you want, but know that Hard isn't difficult at all.
