[top]Tips & Strategies

Learn to use your substitutions:

The substitutions jutsu can be a life saver when used effectively, but can also leave you without a key defense when used recklessly.

-Whenever you can block an incoming combo start with that. This will give you a moment to assess where you'll appear when you substitute and plan your next attack.
-Try to avoid projectiles, rather than substitute through them. Usually substituting through the first projectile will get you hit by the second and it may waste your ability to get out of the way of a longer combo or support attack.
-Substituting during an attack combo will usually have you appear behind your opponent giving you a chance to capitalize.
-Once you've used up all your substitutions it will take a few seconds to start recharging, if you are not in control at this point retreat and play defense till the recharge starts.

Tricks to hit your Ultimate Jutsu:

-In many of your matches against the AI it will attempt to start the match with a charkra dash to close the distance and attack. If you see the dash coming quickly double tap triangle (, ) to activate your ultimate chakra state, then press to substitute has your opponents dash connects. You will appear behind your opponent and still in Ultimate chakra state. Quickly press to activate an almost unavoidable Ultimate jutsu attack.

-Though you can chakra dash through regular ranged attacks, some regular jutsus and all Ultimate jutsus will hit you while dashing. If you see your opponent light up for a chakra attack press to quickly break the dash and guard. If you see your opponent start to dash, quickly activate your Ultimate Jutsu as the computer almost never stops its dash and this may give you a chance at a free attack.

Free Battle Glitch:

Start a Free Mode: VS. Battle as 1P vs. COM, select either Single or Team (Team is recommended).
Before selecting your character press and change the settings to:

Difficulty: Super Easy
Time: 99
Handicap: Move the bar all the way to the right till only one blue square remains.

Fight and win the match. When the after match options appear select "Return to Free Battle Menu". Now select Survival or Tournament and play whichever you are trying to complete. YOU MUST SELECT THE SAME "TEAM" OR "SINGLE" OPTION AS YOU DID FOR THE VS. BATTLE. If you do not the trick will not work.

Note: For more challenge this trick also works in reverse, move the settings to:

[top]
Tale of Naruto Uzumaki complete
Completed Tale of Naruto Uzumaki.

This is one of three initial storylines available at the start of the game.

There are 10 fights in this story encompassing the major story arcs of Naruto Shippuden up to this point.

1. Naruto Vs Kakashi
2. Naruto Vs Itachi
3. Naruto Vs Deidara
4. Naruto (awakened) Vs Orochimaru -Ultimate Jutsu is not available
5. Naruto Vs Sasuke
6. Naruto Vs Kakuzu
7. Naruto Vs Tobi
8. Naruto Vs Pain
9. Naruto Vs Madara
10. Naruto Vs Sasuke

As you advance in the story the opponents will become stronger with the last opponent topping out at +80 strength, so it is important to properly use you substitutions and battle items to keep the fight in your favor.

Naruto is mostly a close combat fighter, though he comes near mid distance with the dash on his Ultimate Jutsu attack. As the story unfolds his Ultimate will change twice, including the Sage versions thrown version that can be followed with a chakra dash to quickly surprise a dodging enemy. In his Ultimate form Naruto has a solid range attack, but his strength is still to get in close and pound away with heavy strikes for more consistent damage.
Watch out for Deidara as he will try to control the fight at a distance, close the gap to gain the advantage and be aggressive against him.
Watch out for Tobi as he can use his Ultimate Jutsu to go under yours and hit you.
Finishing this story will unlock the Tale of Jiraya.

[top]
Tale of Sasuke Uchiha complete
Completed Tale of Sasuke Uchiha.

This is one of three initial storylines available at the start of the game.

This story consist of 10 battles gradually increasing in difficulty and covers Sasuke's major story arcs from Naruto Shippuden.

1.Sasuke Vs Naruto
2.Sasuke Vs Orochimaru
3.Sasuke Vs Deidara
4.Sasuke Vs Itachi
5.Sasuke Vs Itachi (Awakened)- You will not be able to use Ultimate Jutsu against Itachi
6.Sasuke Vs Killer Bee
7.Sasuke Vs Raikage
8.Sasuke Vs Mizukage
9.Sasuke Vs Danzo
10.Sasuke Vs Naruto

Sasuke starts off as a close fighter with a ranged Jutsu to keep him a threat at any distance. The only time this will change is when he trades in the Fireball Jutsu for the Amaterasu, which is slower and travels less distance. His Ultimate Jutsu starts off as a dash attack that covers about half the battlefield, but will change after the third battle to a visual jutsu that is either hit or miss.
Keep these things in mind as you enter your matches so you can adjust the fight style as needed.

Finishing this story will unlock the Tale of Itachi Uchiha.

[top]
Tale of Minato Namikaze complete
Completed Tale of Minato Namikaze.

This story is unlocked by completing the Tale of Jiraya.

There four battles in this story each increasing in difficulty.

1. Minato Vs Young Kakashi
2. Minato Vs Jiraiya
3. Minato Vs The Third Hokage
4. Minato Vs Masked Man

Minato fights very much Naruto. His chakra dash is more like a teleport and can cause you to lose sight of him if not paying attention. His Ultimate Jutsu only has a small range, so only use it if the opponent is in close or if you hit a guard break.
The only opponent who may give you a bit of trouble is the Masked Man as he is prone to using his explosive dash attack and can hit his Ultimate Jutsu quickly giving you little time to react. Also if you substitute away from his Ultimate at it furthest edge you will reappear above it and fall into it anyway.

[top]
Tale of Itachi Uchiha complete
Completed Tale of Itachi Uchiha.

This story is unlocked by completing the Tale of Sasuke Uchiha.

There are 5 battles in this story with increasing difficulty.

1. Itachi Vs Kakashi
2. Itachi Vs Sasuke
3. Itachi Vs Naruto
4. Itachi Vs Sasuke
5. Itachi (awakened) Vs Sasuke -Ultimate Jutsu in not available.

Itachi has an advantage in that his Ultimate Jutsu can hit an opponent almost anywhere on the battle field, however since it appears directly under them it is also very easy for the opponent to dodge. His crow dash attack is also very good for breaking your opponent's guard for a brief advantage. Since most of your opponents are close combat fighters you can retreat and use his Fireball jutsu from a distance to regain an advantage if you need it.

Finishing this story will unlock the Tale of Madara Uchiha.

[top]
Tale of Madara Uchiha complete
Completed Tale of Madara Uchiha.

This story is unlocked by completing the Tale of Itachi Uchiha.

Madara's story is a little different from the other in that you will not be playing as the title character. Instead you will play as 8 members of the Akatsuki in their key storyline battles.

Like all the other Tales your opponents will increase in difficulty as you progress and since you will be switching between characters you'll have to get used to their different styles on the fly as you go along.

1. Deidara Vs Gaara
2. Sasori Vs Sakura
3. Hidan Vs Shikamaru
4. Kakuzu Vs Naruto
5. Itachi Vs Sasuke
6. Konan Vs Jiraiya
7. Pain Vs Naruto
8. Kisame Vs Killer Bee

[top]
Tale of Zabuza and Haku complete
Completed Tale of Zabuza Momochi and Haku.

This story is unlocked by completing the Tale of Young Naruto.

There are four battles in this Tale all centered around Zabuza and Haku's brief appearance in the first part of this series.

1. Zabuza Vs Kakashi
2. Haku Vs Sasuke
3. Haku Vs Naruto
4. Zabuza Vs Kakashi

The first and fourth battles are almost the same, though Kakashi is a little more aggressive in the second one. Zabuza's sword has a good range advantage over Kakashi, but his Ultimate Jutsu requires the enemy to be right beside him- so don't use it unless Kakashi chakra dashes or you know he's going to substitute during a combo.
Haku is a good in close fighter with a solid close to mid range Ultimate Jutsu. The one caution for him is that his Ultimate Jutsu has a pause before he dashes out to strike and can be countered during that time. It can however be used in place of a chakra dash to try and hit the move or just close the distance.

[top]
Tale of Jiraiya complete
Completed Tale of Jiraiya.

This Tale is unlocked by completing the Tale of Naruto Uzumaki.

There are four battles in this story.

1. Jiraiya Vs Naruto
2, Jiraiya Vs Naruto
3, Jiraiya Vs Konan
4. Jiraiya Vs Pain

Jiraya and Naruto are fairly evenly matched.
Konan is more comfortable a little farther back than Jiraya is good at, so close the distance and be aggressive to stay in control and on top of the battle.
Though Pain is similar in distance to Jiraya his combos can lead to various Jutsu attacks that cover more range and feel like they are coming from odd angles because of his "other self" appearances. Watch out for his Almighty Push force bubble that will send you flying (Guard or avoid, do not substitute or you will appear above it and fall in).

[top]
Tale of Gaara complete
Completed Tale of Gaara.

This Tale is unlocked by completing the Tale of Naruto Uzumaki and the Tale of Sasuke Uchiha
This Tale includes four battle of increasing difficulty.

1. Gaara Vs Sasuke- Ultimate Jutsu is not availab;e
2. Gaara Vs Naruto- Ultimate Jutsu is not available
3. Gaara Vs Deidara
4. Gaara Vs Sasuke

Gaara's range is close combat to slightly out of close combat which gives him an advantage against Sasuke and Naruto in keeping them slightly at bay as they fight.
However the problem fight here is Deidara, he's a jerk. He will spend most of his time on the far side of the screen spamming projectiles and just generally being a cheap little pain in the neck. The good news is you can chaka dash through his smaller projectiles and get in close for a solid combo. Once you get near him, DO NOT let him get away. Play aggressive and if you get an opening hit your Ultimate Jutsu to give you a solid advantage or catch up is behind.

[top]
Tale of Kakashi Hatake complete
Completed Tale of Kakashi Hatake.

This Tale is unlocked by completing the Tale of Naruto Uzumaki and the Tale of Sasuke Uchiha.
There are only four battles in this Tale.

1. Young Kakashi Vs Obito
2. Young Kakashi Vs Minato
3. Kakashi Vs Naruto
4. Kakashi Vs Naruto

It's fitting Kakashi's Tale comes after Naruto and Sasuke as he plays similar to both at times. Young Kakashi plays much like Naruto, in that he is more comfortable in close and aggressive, while the adult version using Jutsu's similar to Sasuke to make him formidable in close or a few steps back.
All his opponents are in close fighters so your matches will be quick aggressive brawls that rely on well used substitutions to keep in control of.

[top]
Tale of Young Naruto complete
Completed Tale of Young Naruto.

This is one of the three Tales available at the start of the game.

There are 12 battles in this story and, as with the other, your opponents will increase in difficulty as you progress.

1. Naruto Vs Kakashi
2. Naruto Vs Haku
3. Kakashi Vs Zabuza
4. Naruto Vs Neji
5. The Third Hokage Vs Orochimaru
6. Naruto Vs Gaara
7. Kakashi Vs Itachi
8. Sasuke Vs Itachi
9. Naruto Vs Kabuto
10. Naruto Vs Kimimaro
11. Naruto Vs Sasuke
12. Naruto (Awakened) Vs Sasuke (Awakened)- Ultimate Jutsu is not available

For the most part you play as Naruto and his strengths and weaknesses are very similar to the Naruto you use at the start of the Tale of Naruto Uzumaki. In the other matches you will be playing mostly as close combat characters who play similar to Naruto in terms of distance.
Just be aware that Sakura has limited range on her Ultimate Jutsu.

[top]
Tale of Killer Bee complete
Completed Tale of Killer Bee.

This Tale is unlocked by completing all the other Tales in the game.

There are four battle is this Tale and honestly they all feel about the same difficulty.

1. Killer Bee Vs Naruto
2. Killer Bee Vs Guy
3. Killer Bee Vs Sasuke
4. Killer Bee Vs Kisame

Killer Bee is a close combat fight who specializes in long chain combos. His Ultimate Jutsu has close range reach, but moves in an arc that allows him to strike a sidestepping opponent with it for a surprise hit. If you find yourself on the losing side of a battle go into Awakening mode as Bee's monstrous form not only gives him a super armor that allows him to fight through opponents combos, but also gives him a powerful range attack that can quickly even the sides of the fight.

[top]
Image Master
Images collected: 80%

This is the easiest of all the collection trophies.

After you clear each of the final battles in the Tales you will unlock a set of images in the shop. Go to the shop and buy the image set to add it to your collection. Do this for 8 different Tales and the trophy will be yours.

[top]
Ultimate Jutsu Movie Master
Ultimate Jutsu scenes collected: 80%

There are 72 characters who can be used as Leaders in the game and each one can perform an Ultimate Jutsu.

You will need to unlock 57 Ultimate Jutsu videos to earn this trophy.

The good news is all you have to do is use an Ultimate Jutsu or have one used on you for the video to unlock. Win or lose at the end of the match the video will be added to your collection.

The most efficient way to accomplish this is just to make sure you hit an Ultimate Jutsu everytime you play as a new version of a character in the storylines and then play as different people for each of the Tournaments and Survival runs. After all that it will only take a few more characters in Vs. mode to finish it out.
Unless you get hit by a lot of enemy Jutsu's, then you'll probably have this even quicker .

[top]
Ultimate Ninja Gathering
You can now use all characters.

Complete all the storylines (or Tales of...) and you will unlock all the characters.

You can get a jump on this by having Game data from the previous titles on your system, but you'll still have to beat all the Tales to finish it out.

[top]
First S Rank!
You've earned your first S Rank in a battle.

You'll probably get this trophy without really even trying.

Your fight rank is based on three factors:

Remaining Health
Time left
Bonus factors

The first two are self explanatory win fast and without taking hits to get a better score there. The Bonus facotrs are for things like using Ninjutsu, using Ultimate or Team Ultimate Jutsu, and using combos with high hit number (shot for over 20 hits for a secondary bonus).

You can cheat this one a bit in Vs. Mode.
Start up a Vs. match in 1P vs. Com, then press square and set it too:

Time: 99
Difficulty: Super Easy
Handicap: Move the bar all the way to the right so only one square is blue.

Now pick the character you're best with and win the match (two Ultimate Jutsu's will do it and get you a decent bonus).
The "S" Rank should be elementary after that.

[top]
Gimme a hand!
You can now use all support characters.

You will unlock the majority of the support only characters while going through the Tale of Sasuke Uchiha, however their are a few scattered in the other Tales as well.

Much like the other Character unlock trophies this will unlock after you complete all the Tales.

[top]
Master Survivor!

Complete all the Survival challenges in the Introductory, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels to unlock this trophy.

Complete the Tale of Young Naruto, Tale of Minato, and Tale of Sasuke to unlock this trophy.

[top]
Younger Version
You can use all the characters of the Young Version.

Finish the Tale of Young Naruto, Tale of Minato, and the Tale of Gaara to unlock all the Younger versions of the characters.

You'll get the bulk in Young Naruto's tale, but need the other two to pick up the Sand Sibling, Young Kakashi, and Obito.

[top]
Shippuden
You can use all the characters from Shippuden.

To unlock all of the Shippuden characters you will have to complete all the Tales with the exception of the Tale of Young Naruto Uzamaki and the Tale of Zabuza and Haku.

This includes:

The Tale of Naruto Uzamaki
The Tale of Sasuke Uchiha
The Tale of Kakashi Hatake
The Tale of Minato Namikaze
The Tale of Itachi Uchiha
The Tale of Jiraya
The Tale of Gaara
The Tale of Madara Uchiha
The Tale of Killer Bee

As noted above The Tale of Killer Bee is only unlocked after you complete all the other Tales, so this will be the last character unlock trophy you will earn.

[top]
Introductory Stage Survivor!
You've completed all of Introductory Survival.

A couple things to note for all Survival Challenges:

First: After every match you regain a percentage of health based on three factors:

Fight Rank
Time Remaining in Match
Bonus Factors

The Bonus Factors are only available every fourth match. These will appear right before the match you can earn them on and include things like; Use support characters, no guarding, and finish with Ultimate Jutsu.

For Fight Rank: An "S" gives you 12% back, "A" gives you 8%, "B" gives you 6%, and "C" gives you 4% back.
For Time Remaining you can earn just below 20% back depending on how fast you finish the match. Quicker the match higher the percentage.
For Bonus Factors each carries its own value ranging from 3%- 18% (18% are rare and hard to achieve).

Second: Most of the characters in the game are based around close fast paced combat, with few exceptions. If you are having trouble it may be beneficial to use a ranged character and try to minimize your overall contact with your enemy rather than control the skirmishes.

Third: Whether in close or away, be AGGRESSIVE! Not only are you rewarded for quick matches, but putting your opponent on the defense can make them use their substitutions first, a small thing that can lead to a big advantage when you want to go for an Ultimate Jutsu or big combo.

10 Down
You've defeated 10 opponents in Ultimate Survival.

Ultimate Survival is unlocked after you beat all the other Survival challenges.

The good news is Ultimate Survival starts off fairly easy and gets harder as you advance through the opponents, with the first ten all being relatively easy.

If you do run into some difficulty there are two tricks that may make life a little easier for you:

Trick Number 1: Team Temari

Select Team Battle for the Survival challenge.

Select The Shippuden version of Temari as your Leader character.

For your 1st support character choose someone who has a range attack that spans the entire length of the battle field and slightly homes in on the opponent (Examples; Young Sasuke, 1st form Shippuden Sasuke, or Itachi Uchiha). Set them to Guard support type.

For you 2nd support character choose a combat character (Examples; Pain, Orochimaru, Shippuden Choji). Set them to Attack support type.

In combat spam Temari's combo to keep your opponent at distance, and use your first support character for addition damage and to help pin in your opponent (as well as raise your support drive). If your opponent chakra dashes in or tries to get in close for a combo use your second support character to push them back, Orochimaru and Choji are good because they not only push the opponent away, but if they guard both will nearly exhaust the guard making it easy for you to break with a few additional hits.

Trick Number 2: The Handicap Glitch

Honestly you shouldn't need this as most of the Survival courses are fairly easy with a little trial and error, but if you continue to run into a wall this will help get you over it.

Set up a Vs. Mode: 1P vs. COM match.

Before picking your character set the fight options to:
Time: 99
Difficulty: Super Easy
Handicap: Move the bar all the way to the right till only one blue square remains.

Now select your character and win the match.
Once the match is over select; Return to Free Battle Menu

Select Survival and go play the course that is giving you trouble, the handicap stays in place and the COM opponent will be a bit easier than before.

NOTE: Make sure if you selected Team or Single battle in the original VS. Mode fight, then you must select the same in Survival or the trick will not work.

This trick will also work for Tournaments.

Tournament Champ!
You've completed all Challenge Tournaments.

Complete all of the Tournaments available in the Free Battle mode to unlock this trophy.

Remember for all Tournaments you will get to pick Team or Single match, most times your opponents support will be limited to the other characters available to face in the Tournament. This can give you a distinct advantage if planned right.

Unlike Survival Challenges your health will be completely restored between each round of the tournaments.

Every Tournament follows a theme, but the participants in that tournament can be random among the theme. The best advice is to look at the opponent lay out and see if there are any characters that might give you trouble, if so move away and return to see if they leave the line-up. Pick a character, or team that you are comfortable with and you'll be fine.

None of the tournament battles are any more difficult that the story battles, but if you run into trouble check
10 Down for a few helpful Tactics that can be applied here.

You can do this either before or after you have unlocked some of the Ninja tools.

From the Game Mode screen select Collection. Now choose Ninja Tools and the sub menu select Edit Ninja Tools. There are ten slots available for you to make customized ninja tool layouts, select one, place the tools where you want them in the layout, and save it.

The trophy will pop as you are editing your layout.

[top]
Wealthy Ninja
You've earned a total of 1,000,000 Ryo.

This trophy is cumulative to all the money you earn through the course of gameplay and does NOT have to be saved up.

You can keep track of your total ryo earned by checking under "Play Data" in the Collection sub menu.

Since ryo earned in fights is based on rank, the better you fight the quicker you will reach this trophy. Couple that with the default money you earn from completing story fights, tournaments, and survival courses you will cross the million mark long before completing most of your other trophies.
The trophy will pop as soon as the total ryo earned exceeds 1,000,000.

[top]
Game Master!
You've played for a total of over 30 hours.

You can track you total play time under "Play data" in the Collections sub menu.

Once the timer hits 30 hours the trophy will unlock. The timer goes whether you are actively playing or just let the game sit, however if the 30 hour mark is pasted while just sitting idle you will need to play one match for the trophy to pop up.

Most likely you will be done with everything else before the thirty hour mark, so once you finish up everything else either play some VS. matches, online, or let the game sit till it crosses the 30 hour mark and then unlock your trophy.

[top]
Ninja Lover!
You've used all leader characters.

To earn this trophy you will have to play as every (playable) lead character.
Note: If the Character has more than one form (or Costume), like Gaara, Young Sasuke, or Naruto (shippuden) you must use each form as a Leader to unlock this trophy.

This includes all the characters except the bottom two rows, which are support only characters.

Just keep changing who you play as while going through the survival, tournament, online, and Vs. modes while earning your titles and you'll have this relatively quickly.
