[top]Tips & Strategies

Jigsaw Puzzle Tips - There are 24 Jigsaw Puzzles in the game. In each of the four categories, there are 6 puzzles of different sizes. Some of these are unlocked before you play Quest Mode, but you unlock them all by completing Quest Mode.
  • Traditional jigsaw puzzle strategies work well here. Place the corners first, then fill in the borders, then work your way to the middle of the puzzle.
  • Once you pick up a piece for the first time, it auto-rates into its proper orientation. If you put it back down, no matter where you put it, it retains that orientation, making life easier.
  • There is no time limit, so don't rush.
  • You can exit the puzzle and come back to it, picking up where you left off. The game saves your progress when you exit.

Square Puzzle Tips - There are 24 Square Puzzles in the game. In each of the four categories, there are 6 puzzles of different sizes. None of these are unlocked before you play Quest Mode.
  • Do not use the same strategy as you do for Jigsaw Puzzles. Instead, focus on finding small groups of pieces that fit together, making larger pieces. Pairs are good. Then you can pair one pair with another, and so on.
  • Once you pick up a piece for the first time, it auto-rates into its proper orientation. If you put it back down, no matter where you put it, it retains that orientation, making life easier.
  • Hit to reference the completed puzzle image.
  • There is no time limit, so don't rush.
  • If you get frustrated by a puzzle, you can exit it and come back to it later -- your progress will have been saved.
  • Once you get a good chunk of the picture complete, it can be faster if you repeatedly pick up the big cluster and drop it onto the single pieces, near the borders of the big chunk. Even if the singles aren't oriented properly, the big chunk will add them to itself, if you get the edges close enough. Just pick the big chunk back up and it will properly orient itself again.

Slider Puzzle Tips - There are 20 slider puzzles in the game. In each of the four categories, there are two 3x3 puzzles and one each of 4x4, 5x5, and 6x6. I have looked all over the Internet to find a tool that can solve these automatically, but I have not found anything. So, here are some tips.
  • Make the bigger puzzles into smaller puzzles. That is, when you're doing a 4x4, get all the pieces in the correct place for the top-most row and the right-most row, leaving you with a scrambled 3x3 puzzle to solve. When you're doing a 5x5, get all the pieces in the correct place for the top-most row and the right-most row, leaving you with a 4x4 puzzle, which you can then make into a 3x3 puzzle. Similarly, you can convert a 6x6 into a 5x5, then make that into a 4x4, and so on.
  • When following the tip above, always work from upper-right corner of the puzzle. The empty space will always be in the far lower-left corner
  • Depending on whether or not you've encountered this kind of puzzle before, this may be quite annoying. Remember that these types of puzzles are solvable by children around the age of 10. Make sure you don't take this the wrong way--if you're struggling, it doesn't mean you aren't smart. It means that you don't really need much strategy to solve it, and that strategy can't be far off. So take it as an encouraging thing.
  • Some of the puzzles have dark areas in which it is difficult to distinguish details necessary for identifying which pieces go where. I discovered that rapidly tapping causes the image to flicker back and forth between what you have at the time and your target, the final image. If you tap rapidly enough, you'll be able to see exactly whether or not your pieces are in the right spots, even if that particular area of the image appears completely dark.
  • Finally, it isn't efficient, but it works: my "insert" method. While struggling through these, I developed one nice strategy that works for me and I'll share it with you. I involves getting all but one piece correct in a particular row or column, getting the missing piece close to it's destination, then sliding all pieces around the border to make a space where I can insert the missing piece. The video below demonstrates this.
  • Update: I WILL be recording example solutions for all the slider puzzles. It will take a while for me to get them up there, so please be patient.

Slider Puzzle Video 6x6 Example Solution - I recorded the video below to illustrated all the tips I mentioned above. The solution is NOT the fastest way to solve the 6x6 lobster puzzle, but I do it in under 10 minutes and I think that's pretty good. You can follow it to the solution if you like, but it is really meant to illustrate the tips I mentioned.

[top]Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits

"Cheating" in this game amounts to pausing the game and searching the Internet for answers to questions. You can pause by hitting , research your answer, unpause, enter the answer, and get a nice little green check mark for the question you're on. While this does increase the amount of time you will spend playing this title, it will save you frustration, and make it less likely for you to miss The Big 50. To see more details, read on.

Update! - Allenbird has confirmed that there is a trick to helping you earn The Big 50 after all. If you incorrectly answer a question in an episode, rather than pausing, quitting, and reloading the episode, his the button, quit to the XMB, reload the game, and then restart your episode.

[top]Roadmap

Step 1: Spend 6-7 Hours in Stat Attacks Mode. - Stat Attacks is essentially a very simple card game. As you progress through other game modes in this title you unlock more cards for use in Stat Attacks. As you earn more cards, the amount of time it takes you to win a game of Stat Attacks increases. For this reason, you'll want to get all trophies for this mode first. Here's what you should do:
  • Win 50 games of Stat Attacks. - Fire up two controllers. Put controller 1 on one team and controller 2 on another. Pick cards for both teams so that controller 1 wins every game. You're shooting for Top Stat Attacker and in the process you'll earn Stat Attacks Novice (win 1 Stat Attacks game) and Stat Attacker (win 25 Stat Attacks games).
  • During any of the 50 games you're grinding through, create a tie between the two teams. - To make a tie, pick one card from each team that features a category in which the animals/landmarks on the cards have the same score. Then settle the tie. You do not have to win the tie, the trophy will pop even if the dummy controller wins the tie. This will earn you Tie Breaker.
  • Lose 5 Stat Attacks games against the computer AI. - Turn off the dummy controller and do your best to lose against the computer. Lose 5 consecutive matches to earn Lose 5.

Step 2: Spend 25-30 Hours in Quiz Mode (not Quest Mode). - The first two steps of this roadmap are designed to help us all learn as much as we can before we take on Quest Mode. Sure you can (and you will) Google the answer to many, many of the questions, but this strategy is necessary in order to minimize your chances of missing The Big 50 in later steps. Here's what you should do:
  • Win 50 Multi-Team Quiz Mode Games. - Yes, this will take a very, very long time. Go into Quiz Mode, fire up a second controller, pick any series, play on Easy, use the 40-question length, and make sure to put the controllers on separate teams. Force controller 1 to win 50 games with these settings, earning you Family Time, What Competition, Brain Box, Common Knowledge, You're Good, and Quiz Master. Note: This is where it is on the roadmap to give you even more time to learn before tackling Quest Mode. If you feel like speeding this part up though, realize that you can just answer the first question correctly for controller 1 and incorrectly for controller 2. Then, for every other question, hit the same button for each controller as quickly as you can. This will save time in the long run.
  • Reach the Top of the Quiz Mode Offline Leaderboards. Use One Controller Only. - From the Main Menu, select "Quiz Mode" from the "Games" row. Pick any series you wish, but know that you must beat the default high scores for each of the 40, 60, and 80 question sets in each series: Amazing Planet, Dangerous Encounters, Aquatic Life, and Predators vs. Prey. You can play on Easy for all of these quizzes. This will earn you That's Easy and get you 90% of the way towards earning Quiz Genius.
    • For 40-question quizzes, you need at least 3,000 points to reach the top of the leaderboard; average 600 points per round (8 questions).
    • For 60-question quizzes, you need at least 4,000 points to reach the top of the leaderboard; average 800 points per round (12 questions).
    • For 80-question quizzes, you need at least 5,000 points to reach the top of the leaderboard.; average 1,000 points per round (16 questions).

  • Win an 80 question multi-team game of Mega Quiz. - In Quiz Mode, pick "Mega Quiz", 80 Questions, and put your controllers on separate teams. Force controller 1 to win the game and receive General Knowledge.
  • Score At Least 2,700 points in a 40-question Quiz Mode Game With Both Controllers on the Red Team. This will earn you Team Work.
  • Score At Least 3,200 points in an 80-question Quiz Mode Game on "Mega Quiz" -> Hard. This will earn you Mega Score.

Step 3: Spend 8-10 Hours Completing Quest Mode to 100%. You can play on Easy! - MAKE SURE YOU CONCENTRATE ON The Big 50. Lucky for all of us, Musquito has given me permission to link to this answer bank. He lists the answers to every question you'll encounter during Quest Mode. Make sure to use his guide all the way through, since you will need to answer every question correctly to get 100% on Quest Mode and unlock Nat Geo Researcher.
  • If you answer a question incorrectly, you can restart, but know that that episode can no longer count towards The Big 50.
  • Once you earn The Big 50, change strategies. In one episode, purposefully each of the 10 questions incorrectly, earning you Fail 10. Then go back through that episode answering everything correctly and continue chugging along.
  • After you finish each series, go around the map and find all of the hidden square puzzles. I've listed their locations in the trophy descriptions below.

During this step, you will pop those two trophies, plus: Predator, Top of the Class, Amazing, Dangerous, Decrypted, Fish Face, Amazing Squares, You're a Card, Square Hunter, Missing Pieces, Perfect 30, Easy or What, and Quiz Genius.

Step 4: Puzzle Time! Spend 12-15 Hours Completing All 68 Puzzles. - There are 24 Jigsaw Puzzles, 24 Square Puzzles, and 20 Slider Puzzles in the game. There is no time limit for puzzle solving, so don't feel rushed. All you need to do is complete all 68 puzzles at some point. The Jigsaw and Square Puzzles are very easy, but the Slider Puzzles are hard.
  • To make it easier on you, I have made HD videos of myself solving all 20 Slider Puzzles. You can find them under Puzzle Genius. They do not show you the quickest, most-efficient solution, but they are there for you to use if you get stuck.
  • During this step, fire up controller 2 and have both controllers active while you complete 5 Jigsaw Puzzles so you earn Jigsaw Friends.

While completing all the puzzles, you will earn: Lots of Pieces, My First Puzzle, 4 Sliders, Not Puzzled, and Puzzle Genius.

Step 5: Mop Up. - If you missed anything during steps 1-4 or if you didn't follow the roadmap, check out the individual trophy descriptions below and finish earning what you need. If you missed The Big 50, you will need to start a new save file and play Quest Mode all over again.

Step 6: !!! - Ready for more? The EU region of this game, titled "Nat Geo Quiz! Wild Life", can be platinumed as well. It is identical to this game. You can do this all over again!

[top]Trophies

Nat Geo Platinum
Unlock all 40 Trophies.

Unlock all , , and trophies in this title to pop this platinum gem.

[top]
Stat Attacks Novice
Win a game of Stat Attacks.

From the main screen, choose the Games row and select the third option, "Stat Attacks". Pick any of the four series to play. It's probably good to vary the series so you learn more, which will help you in other game modes. If you're just grinding through a bunch of these games, pick the shortest game length. Fire up a second controller and put it on a different team, the blue team, for example.

To win a round of "Stat Attacks", pick the card that has the highest value in the chosen category. For example, if your card is "Mammoth Caves" and you pick the "Danger" category, your score is 62. If you make the other player choose "Yangtze River", their "Danger" score is 21, and since 62 > 21, you win the round. To win the game, win enough rounds to collect all of your opponents cards. To speed this up:
  • When it is your turn to pick the category, pick the highest number you can, then use the other controller and try to guess the lowest number.
  • When it is the dummy controllers turn to pick the category, use it to pick the lowest number you can, then use your own controller to guess the highest number.

You can win by taking all of your opponents cards, playing all the available rounds and having the highest card total at the end, or forcing a victory by default, which happens when the difference between the number of cards you hold and the number of cards your opponent holds is 2x greater than the number of rounds that remain in the game.

Simply win a game of Stat Attacks to pop this trophy.

Note: In the EU version of this game, they refer to "Stat Attax". This is the same thing as "Stat Attacks", just spelled in a more modern fashion.

If you answer a question incorrectly, you can restart the episode and re-answer the questions to get this trophy, but be wary of doing so as that episode can no longer count towards The Big 50.

If you wish to burn through these games though, just make controller 1 take the lead on the first question, then hit the same button on each controller for all the remaining questions, saving time and guaranteeing controller 1 still wins, even though you aren't really paying attention to the questions.

From the main menu, select "Quiz Mode" and choose a series. Play on Easy, choose "40 Questions", and put only one controller in the game. In quiz mode, you do the following:
  • Answer multiple-choice questions for points. The sooner you answer, the more points you earn for picking the correct answer.
  • Play "What do you see?", which is another form of multiple-choice question, one in which small squares of the overall image are revealed in random groups in an attempt to test your familiarity with what is in the image.
  • Gamble points on still more multiple-choice questions. When you're given this opportunity, make sure to always bet the maximum since with the power of the Internet you are guaranteed to find the correct answer.
  • Play a letter-drop game that really is a lot like the toss-up questions in "Wheel of Fortune". Just guess the answer that can be spelled by the falling letters.
  • Watch a video clip and be asked questions such as "What color were that lobster's eyes?" or "How many dolphins were in the second clip?".

If you answer all questions correctly, bet 100 points when possible, and answer all questions rather quickly, you can score 3,500+ points on a 40 question quiz at easy level. Finish an easy 40-question quiz with more than 2,500 points to pop this trophy.

The description for this trophy isn't detailed, but here are some things I was able to figure out that do help you earn this trophy:
  • You can play any puzzle, including one you've already beaten. So, if all you need is this trophy, just pick the smallest puzzles to save yourself time. OR, if you need this trophy and Puzzle Genius, then play puzzles you've not played yet, just make sure to rotate between controllers every 12 pieces or so, since controller 2 will timeout if you wait too long.
  • When you're looking through puzzles to play and you select one, BEFORE you hit to start the puzzle, jiggle the left stick on controller 2 so the second white-gloved hand appears, THEN start the puzzle.
  • While playing the puzzle, make sure to place at least a few pieces with each controller. Don't ignore the 2nd controller for too long or it will timeout. Alternating every 10-12 pieces is a good strategy.
  • If you have a sibling, friend, or significant other, get them to help. It will probably speed things up and make the overall experience more enjoyable.

Solve 5 jigsaw puzzles while following the steps above and you will pop this trophy.

Stat Attacker
Win 25 games of Stat Attacks.

Win 25 games of Stat Attacks to pop this trophy.

Note: In the EU version of this game, they refer to "Stat Attax". This is the same thing as "Stat Attacks", just spelled in a more modern fashion.

Mega Score
Score 3,200 points in a 80 question quiz of Hard Mega Quiz.

From the main menu, select "Quiz Mode" -> "Mega Quiz" -> 80 Questions -> Hard -> Controller 1 - Red Team. Hard mode is actually pretty hard so don't hesitate to search the Internet for the answer to the questions. You can easily score above 5,500 points on a game with these settings, so play well and finish with at least 3,200 points to pop this trophy.

You may not even need to google any answers, even on Hard. In rounds 2 and 4, be smart about how much you bet. If you be the max every time and you lose, you can finish a round having scored a negative number of points!

Square Hunter
Find all of the hidden Square Puzzles.

It is not immediately obvious how to find these. The "where" makes enough sense. All of these hidden puzzles are just that -- hidden around your globe. If you haven't already discovered this, realize that you can zoom in with and you can zoom out with . Also, hit to change your view of the globe. When finding hidden square puzzles, the "geographic" view will help the most. Switch to Geographic view and zoom in to these areas on the map:

Find each of these, hit for each of them so you see the "New Square Puzzle Unlocked" message, and you'll pop this trophy.

Missing Pieces
Collect all of the missing jigsaw pieces.

You unlock missing jigsaw pieces as rewards for completing episodes in Quest Mode. You do not have to search the world map for these, they just pop up after you complete a certain number of episodes. When you earn Nat Geo Researcher, this trophy will pop too.

Perfect 30
Score 10 out of 10 in 30 episodes.

Quest Mode takes you on a unique learning adventure, during which you will answer multiple series of 10 questions organized into "episodes". To pop this trophy, answer all 10 questions in 30 episodes correctly. Use the answer bank here to make sure you answer all of the questions correctly. If you answer a question incorrectly, you can restart the episode and re-answer the questions to get this trophy, but be wary of doing so as that episode can no longer count towards The Big 50.

Note that you need to answer every question in the entirety of Quest Mode correctly to earn Nat Geo Researcher, so you can't miss this trophy on your way to platinum.

[top]
The Big 50
Score 10 out of 10 in 50 episodes without retrying.

This trophy is missable.

Update! - Allenbird has confirmed that there is a trick to helping you earn The Big 50 after all. If you incorrectly answer a question in an episode, rather than pausing, quitting, and reloading the episode, his the button, quit to the XMB, reload the game, and then restart your episode.

When they say "without retrying", they mean it. If you answer a question incorrectly, pausing, quitting, and restarting the episode does not help you recover your mistake. This means that you need to be very mindful of answering all questions correctly from the very beginning of Quest Mode.

To pop this trophy, you need to post 50 flawless episodes. There are 96 episodes total. Between the XMB trick and the answer bank, you shouldn't have any trouble popping this trophy.

Brain Box
Win 30 multiplayer quizzes.

From the main menu, select "Quiz Mode" -> Any Series -> Any Quiz Length (40 recommended) -> Any Difficulty (Easy recommended) -> Controller 1 - Red Team, Controller 2 - Blue Team. As you are playing, purposefully answer questions correctly with controller 1 and purposefully answer questions incorrectly for controller 2, guaranteeing that controller 1 wins every game. This is a good time to learn the answers to the hoard of questions, which will make your trials during Quest Mode easier. If you wish to burn through these games though, just make controller 1 take the lead on the first question, then hit the same button on each controller for all the remaining questions, saving time and guaranteeing controller 1 still wins, even though you aren't really paying attention to the questions.

Make controller 1 win 30 games to pop this trophy.

Note that you will need to win 50 matches with this setup (or one similar to it) on your way to platinum, so you can't miss this trophy on your way to plat.

Not Puzzled
Complete 35 different puzzles.

This game features Jigsaw Puzzles, Square Puzzles, and Slider Puzzles. There are 24, 24, and 20 of each, respectively, for a total of 68 different puzzles. You unlock more puzzles as you progress through Quest Mode. Before you play Quest Mode at all, 8 Jigsaw and 20 Slider puzzles are available, for a total of 28 puzzles. This means you cannot earn this trophy until you've played some of Quest Mode. For this reason, the roadmap suggests saving all the puzzles for last.

When enough (or all) of the puzzles are available, complete 35 of them to pop this trophy. There are no time limits on the puzzles and if you leave one, you can come back to it and pick up where you left off. The Slider puzzles will be difficult if you've not seen one before or if you're out of practice, so refer to the Tips section at the top of this guide for help if you're struggling.

Quiz Genius
You are at the top of each leaderboard.

There are a total of 13 leaderboards you need to top to pop this trophy. 12 of the 13 are single-player Quiz Mode leaderboards. Those 12 comprise the 40, 60, and 80 question varieties of the four main series: Amazing Planet, Aquatic Life, Dangerous Encounters, and Predators vs. Prey. MEGA QUIZ DOES NOT COUNT TOWARDS THIS TROPHY. The 13th leaderboard is for Quest Mode. Your score through all series in Quest Mode is cumulative. You will top the Quest Mode leaderboard when you reach about 50% Quest Mode completion.

To top the Quiz Mode Leaderboards, play using only one controller and achieve these scores:
  • For 40-question quizzes, you need at least 3,000 points to reach the top of the leaderboard; average 600 points per round (8 questions).
  • For 60-question quizzes, you need at least 4,000 points to reach the top of the leaderboard; average 800 points per round (12 questions).
  • For 80-question quizzes, you need at least 5,000 points to reach the top of the leaderboard.; average 1,000 points per round (16 questions).

To top the Quest Mode Leaderboard, correctly answer about 50% of all available questions. It is okay if you need to retry quizzes, but remember my many, many warnings about The Big 50.

[top]
Nat Geo Researcher
Complete Quest Mode with a score of 100%.

You will need to correctly answer every question in Quest Mode to pop this trophy. There are about 1,000 of them. In the roadmap you can find a link to an answer bank, generous provided with permission from and thanks to Musquito. This answer bank has ~90% of all correct answers for Quest Mode, in order, making this portion of the game comparatively quick and simple. (It only has 90% because some of the answers for the "What Do You See" puzzles are not constant)

Each of the 4 series earns you 25% completion. Correctly answer every question in each series to pop this trophy. It is okay if you need to retry or restart some of the episodes, but make sure you don't restart too many or you will miss The Big 50.

[top]
Fail 10
You have answered all 10 questions incorrectly in any episode.

Do not attempt to earn this trophy until after you've earned The Big 50.

Quest Mode comprises a large number of episodes, each of which offers 10 questions. Deliberately answer all 10 questions in one episode incorrectly to pop this trophy.

[top]
Lost 5
In single player mode, the user has lost 5 Stat Attacks matches in a row.

This means you should shoot to have the lower number in order to lose.

You can win by taking all of your opponents cards, playing all the available rounds and having the highest card total at the end, or forcing a victory by default, which happens when the difference between the number of cards you hold and the number of cards your opponent holds is 2x greater than the number of rounds that remain in the game. Conversely, give away all your cards to lose the game.

When playing the computer, realize that you can see which stat categories it will choose from. Also realize that since it is programmed to win, it is most likely going to pick the category with the biggest score. Sometimes it chooses the category with the second biggest score. If you've followed the roadmap, then you've already played at least 50 games of Stat Attacks, meaning you should be quite familiar with the cards in play. Use all of this when picking out which cards give you the greatest chance of losing.

Lose against the computer AI in 5 consecutive games of Stat Attacks to pop this trophy. This will take a while.

Note: In the EU version of this game, they refer to "Stat Attax". This is the same thing as "Stat Attacks", just spelled in a more modern fashion.
