Need for Speed: Most Wanted (2012) is the 19th installment of the Need for Speed series. Made by Criterion Games, the makers of the Burnout series, this game takes on a different perspective of the original Need for Speed: Most Wanted made in 2005 by EA Black Box. This game is a mix of the Need for Speed and Burnout play styles, with NFS's cars and atmosphere (notable in Need for Speed: The Run) to Burnout's loose physics and destruction with car takedowns (notable in Burnout Paradise). It also includes police and the Top 10 Blacklist members, and it's your job to take them all down while roaming around the City of Fairhaven!

[top]Tips and Strategies

This game can take a bit of getting used to, especially since you're going to use a variety of cars that handles in a variety of ways. Eventually, you'll get more comfortable with the game as you play more. Here's some tips we picked up during our adventures of playing this game and writing this trophy guide.
  • Blacklist Rivals: If you lose a Blacklist member when trying to take him down for his car, just keep driving and he will return from behind eventually, usually in about a minute or two. Just watch your back so you know when he’s coming! As long as you can keep up with him, taking him down shouldn't be that much of a problem.
  • Selecting Cars: Once you find a car at a Jack Spot, you can change to that car immediately, or change it whenever later on (except when getting chased by the cops or racing). When looking at a car’s performance, the dashes are the stats of the car you’re currently driving, in comparison to the car you’re looking at. You'll need to race in every car eventually, but it's still useful to know which cars perform the best for your racing style.
  • Racing: When doing Speed Runs, use the Off-Road tires so you can cut corners without losing a lot of speed, especially on Speed Runs with grass or dirt involved. When the cops are involved, do the best you can to ignore them, or take them down as you please. Either way make sure they don't slow you down too badly when racing, which includes dodging all spike strips that appear!
  • Collectibles: You can find Jack Spots, smash into billboards, and security gates while playing online or offline in the city of Fairhaven. There's a good chance you may encounter a glitch, however. You may destroy all of the billboards and Autolog would only register all but one. This may happen because you save didn't register it but Autolog did, or it might be an actual glitch. To reduce the chances of you encountering the glitch, we recommend finding all of the collectibles while signed off of PSN. Autolog can screw up your stats, and if that happens, you might have to find all of them over again, or you might have to delete your save file and do it over again. The same thing can appear to happen when trying to win all 61 races (go to Second is Nothing for more details). Just be cautious of the possibilities of the glitches.

  • 1. Beat the Most Wanted Racers
    There are ten Most Wanted Racers, in order to face them you need a specific amount of Speed Points, 1,000,000 total. You earn Speed Points by winning races, finding collectibles, competing online, and causing chaos for the cops. Once you take out the final Most Wanted racer you are ready for the next part. Here are the trophies you should unlock , in no real order.

    • Don't Blink
  • 2. Find Every Car
    There are 41 cars total in the game, 10 of them are Most Wanted, you must search for Jack Spots to find each car. Once you have all of the cars you might as well drive around with them for a bit. Here's the trophies that should unlock while doing this in XMB order:
    • Most Wanted Riders
    • Love Them or Leave Them
  • 3. Win Every Race
    Now it is time to win every race, there are 61 total races and you need to win every one of them. You already won the Most Wanted Races so now you have however many races you have left. You should unlock the Second is Nothing trophy when you win all of them.
  • 4. Collectibles, Multiplayer, and Clean-up
    You may or may not have found all of the Jack Spots but whether you have or have not now is the time to finish the collectibles, Multiplayer, and other trophies. Take care of the Multiplayer trophies first, they will only take you a few hours to complete. Afterwords work on the rest of the trophies you need while finding collectibles. You should unlock the following trophies, if you have not already:

This trophy will unlock after Don't Blink, that is if you have shut down every Most Wanted car up to this point. If not then hunt them down.

Smash every Billboard

There are 156 Billboards spread out through Fairhaven. They are easy to identify as they advertise EA and all companies EA owns. Here is a map of every Billboard location. Thanks to Bladia for the map.

Break through every Security Gate

Security Gates are actually very difficult to spot. Keep in mind though that they are used to pinpoint shortcuts, areas with lots of billboards and jack spots, etc. Fortunately there is a map! Thanks to ShineDalgarno for this map.

Love Them and Leave Them
Drive every car

There are 41 cars total in the entire game. Simply drive each one once, easy way to keep track is to just drive a new car as soon as you find it. Creating a checklist on paper is a good idea as well.

Networking
Find every Jack Spot

Jack Spots are where you change vehicles, there are 123 all over Fairhaven and each car has three Jack Spots. You can choose to find them all right away or wait till you beat every Most Wanted racer but either way you won't find them all until you have the Koeniggsegg Agera R. Cameraman
Trigger every Speed Camera

Speed Cameras are not hidden, they are placed along main roads to catch speeders. There are 66 Speed Traps in total and you can actually earn them by doing races, but if you want here is a map to find them. Thanks to Adzster5310 for the map.

Go Pro, or Go Home
Unlock all the Pro mods on a car (Single Player)

First things first, beat every race for a car. You now know that every car has five races and you must win all 5 to earn all Mods. A Pro Mod is an upgraded version of a Mod. In order to unlock them you have to complete a milestone while said mod is equipped.I found it easiest to, in a sense, boost the Pro Mods in Hughes Park, there is a huge jump in the center, plenty of off-road area, and a fountain you can drift circles around. For the Transmission upgrades I suggest the freeway Interstate 92. Below is a list of all Mods and their required milestone for Pro:

Tires
  • Off-Road: Drive 5,000 total yards off-road with Off-Road Tires Equipped
  • Track: Drift 5,000 total yards with Track Tires equipped
  • Reinflate: Hit 5 spike strips with Reinflatable Tires equipped (available in Most Wanted races and Heat Level 5-6)
Nitrous
  • Burn: Use for 300s total
  • Powershot: Use Powershot 25 times
Chassis
  • Lightweight: Get 60 seconds of air time while equipped
  • Reinforced: Takedown 10 cops while equipped
Body
  • Aero: Get 120s of slipstreaming while equipped. (can only be done in races)
  • Impact Protection: Get two crash escapes (actually tricky, can work against racers and cops but you have to avoid a crash they were involved in without your interference, AKA a Takedown. This can also be done by crashing a racer, stopping quickly, and passing by that racer before it dissapears. Thanks to w1th0utnam3 for that tip.)
Transmission
  • Long Gears: 10,000 Yards of Oncoming
  • Short Gears: 25 Near Misses

Feeling the Need
Empty a full nitrous bar without hitting anything

Easiest on I-92, just fill your Burn Nitrous bar completely then hit and hold it till it empties. If you crash or stop you have to refill your boost.

Fix Me Up
Use a Bodyshop to paint or repair your car for the first time

Easy, just drive through any Body Shop, green wrench icon on your map, and trophy!

Switcheroo
Use a Jack Spot in a Pursuit (Single Player)

This will unlock when you do Kitchen Sink so don't worry about it too much, refer to the video for said trophy for a visual. If you do this outside of Kitchen Sink then simply drive up to any Jack Spot during a pursuit and switch a car, if you can't find one select a car from EasyDrive and Set Destination for any car and follow the GPS to it.

Use a Billboard and a Jack Spot to successfully evade a pursuit (Single Player)

This is actually easier than it sounds. All you have to do is smash a billboard during a pursuit, cops are less likely to follow you when you jump, and switch your car in a Jack Spot during Cooldown. To be more efficient you can switch cars during the actual pursuit to earn Switcheroo in the same pursuit. You have to evade the pursuit for the trophy to unlock. The Heat is Off
Escape successfully from all Heat levels

There are six heat levels, each one progressively harder and harder. In order to unlock the trophy you have to evade a minimum of 6 pursuits, meaning evade a pursuit on each heat level. The trophy is tricky to understand as you may know. How it works is, for example, on heat level 3 you must evade and avoid re-initiating the pursuit. Meaning once you enter Cooldown you have to stay there to successfully evade. There is an extremely and surprisingly easy method to this. There is a section of elevated rail in Fairhaven Central on Vincennes Road that cops can not find you on. If you have found the Jack Spot then warp to the Porche 911 Turbo 3.0 Jack Spot in Fairhaven Central, that Jack Spot is on the exact road. From there take an immediate left and then left again on Vincennes Road. Drive down till you see a ramp in the center of the road, this is where you jump up onto the elevated rails and can easily earn this trophy. If you don't feel like taking down enough police to raise your heat level then you can actually just sit up there in the police field of vision, the blinking red and blue circle if you didn't know. This takes longer, took 15 minutes for level 5 heat, but it is very easy to do, the cops never go up there. When you are at the desired heat level just move out of the police field of vision and just sit and wait.

Social Climber
Get 5 or more NFS friends

More than likely, unless you don't have many PSN friends or none of them like Need for Speed, you'll get this no problem. If you need friends the members here will gladly help.

How Do You Like Me Now?
Beat a friend's Autolog Recommendation

Autolog will send you recommendations to challenge a friend after you have played and/or beaten events. From Easydrive select Autolog Recommends, choose who to challenge, then beat their time. Recommend you choose someone who isn't as good.

Moving on Up
Move up the Most Wanted List for the first time

This trophy doesn't mean beat Most Wanted #10, it unlocks when you achieve enough points to face him.

Takedown a friend in Multiplayer

Easy, just meet up with a friend in a lobby and take them down.

After Market
Unlock a mod for a car in Multiplayer

Mods in Multiplayer are unlocked a different way, this time I won't list them but in the Pro Mod trophy I will list a method. Mods are unlocked buy driving a set distance of miles/kilometers, jumping a set distance with a certain mod, 10 takedowns with powershot, etc. The easiest to unlock are the distance driven ones, up to 200 miles. You'll unlock a mod, doesn't matter which car but for the purposes of the platinum use the Mitsubishi Lancer if you have it, if not raise your Speed level to unlock it, at 10 miles.

Licensed to Ill
Customize your license plate and number in Multiplayer

You can do this while in EasyDrive. After you unlock a new plate, press the button and go to EasyDrive. Then go to Edit License Plate and edit the plate and numbers/letters. This trophy should unlock once you've done that.

You may unlock plates by doing different tasks on Multiplayer, like something as simple as driving though a Body Shop to fix your car.

Mix Master
Play a Custom Speedlist you have created (Multiplayer)

You create Custom Speedlists from the Multiplayer Pause Menu, just simply scroll down to Edit Speedlists from this menu, select any events you want, start a lobby and invite a friend. You do not have to win, only finish it.

The Modfather
Unlock 3 Pro Mods in Multiplayer

This trophy isn't hard, as long as you stick with one car and unlock mods for it (which can be obtained while regular gameplaying), also earning you After Market.

One of the easiest pro mods to unlock is the Pro Reinflate Tires from any car. Unlock the Re-inflates with any car you're driving in, equip them, and constantly hold & during a Speedlist to burst your tires. It takes 32 popped tires for the Pro Mod to unlock for that car.

Note: Once you unlock a Pro Mod for one car on Multiplayer, it will be available in all other cars you unlock.

Second is Nothing
Finish first in every race, in every car (Single Player)

There are a total of 51 races, excluding the 10 Most Wanted races, and there's 41 cars total, each having 5 races. All you have to do is win every race once, regardless of which cars you use to do them! For example, let's say you use the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. Just win the five races on that car, and you're good to go for those races. When changing cars, check to see which races you didn't race in, which is the easiest to check by the option of "Start Race". If it doesn't give you that option, then you haven't entered that race yet.

For the Speed Run "Needle Point", don't skip the cutscene. If you do, you'll start the run 40 mph (64.37 kph) slower than you would if you didn't. MickyThomas caught that, but it's not yet confirmed if that's the same case for the other Speed Runs. I say to be safe don't skip the cutscenes, but it's also a good idea to see if it changes anything or not while going for this trophy.

Note: There's a chance you may encounter a situation where you won all races, but one race didn't register. I recommend racing offline, signed out of PSN, just in case that might happen, because Autolog might make a mistake in registering completed races or your save data might not register it. If this pertains to you, there's a chance you might have to do all of the races over, or worse case scenario, delete your save data and start over. Let's hope for a patch to fix this soon.

One way to make sure you actually won all of the races you entered is to press > until you see Recommends on your map. Choose any race that appears either yellow or light green. The yellow races are Recommendations, for either someone beat your time, there's a racer Autolog recommends you to beat the time of, or maybe you didn't win that event. Light green races are ones you haven't finished or didn't win in. Get the gold on all of those events, and the trophy should pop up! (Thanks Adzster5310 and jooakim)

Once you win all of the races at least once, the trophy should unlock. Thanks to Adzster5310 for the heads up and a chart of the races and the cars in them, and we have confirmed this!

Rim Shot
Escape the cops with at least one blown tire

This trophy shouldn't be too hard, as long as you don't crash and get yourself in a situation that you literally can't get out of. You can do this by getting at least one tire blown out from spike strips, and finishing the race (regardless of position). Then you might want to hop on the freeway or go where there traffic isn't too heavy, or just lose them however you usually do it. Once you evade the cops successfully, the trophy should pop up! Another method is to do Most Wanted #10 Race, it is very easy to win with even two blown tires and you practically immediately evade the pursuit after the race, even if you don't win as long as you evade it counts. Most Wanted races feature plenty of spike strips so hit one on one side and you are good to go.

Another way is to use a quick car, burnout to pop your tires, and ram into a police car to activate the pursuit. If you drive fast enough without crashing, you should be able to escape pretty easily, probably in a matter of seconds. Thank you xSNEAKY-FXx for providing us with this method!

In Your Face
Smash a friend's face on a billboard and beat their jump distance

This trophy requires the Wanted Billboards that appear after you smash the billboards advertising companies EA owns. A new billboard will replace them showing either your avatar or a friend's avatar. To earn the trophy you have to launch your car through your friend's avatar and beat their jump distance. To make sure you don't accidentally beat all of your friend's times smash a billboard at as slow of a speed as you can, and to make it easy on friends as well.

Pit Stop
Repair a burst tire at a Bodyshop

This is extremely easy. First find a Bodyshop and stop your car. Now hold and to burnout, you want to keep doing it until your tires pop. Once they pop just drive through the Bodyshop and ding!

This car actually can be difficult at times to keep up with, on top of that it is tough so taking it out is another issue. Just slam it as hard as you can.

Shut down Most Wanted car number 2: Pagani Huayra (Single Player)

Ensuing fart jokes aside this car is boss. Take it down to "break wind" across the road.

Don't Blink
Shut down Most Wanted car number 1: Koenigsegg Agera R (Single Player)

This is the longest and hardest of the Most Wanted races, you face off against not only a Koeniggsegg Agera R but the heat level is set at 6. You'll need you best car, preferably with most if not all upgrades. I used the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport with Pro Reinflate Tires, Pro Powershot Nitrous, Pro Reinforced Chassis, Pro Impact Reduction Body, and Pro Short Gears Transmission. This made my Veyron both ridged and fast. You however may use any car you choose. Below is a video provided by PowerPyx on the race, once you beat the race you must take down the Agera R, after that the trophy will unlock along with Most Wanted Rides.

Gotcha
Get Busted for the first time

Easy, get in a pursuit by speeding, hitting a police car, or hitting traffic near a police car. Once a pursuit is is initiated just sit there and let the police bust you.

First Strike
Takedown your first Cop

Easy, just slam into a cop during a chase or to initiate a chase. Hitting a cop head-on to start a pursuit will usually instantly take them down.

Troublemaker
Takedown 50 cops

Not hard, no idea why it is silver. You'll earn 10 Takedowns while earning Mauled so you need 40. The rest of the takedowns you need will be earned while achieving The Heat is Off but if you get that trophy before 50 Takedowns then keep getting in pursuits. Remember ramming a cop head on in freeroam will net a head on takedown at slower speeds.

Slip the Cuffs
Drive through a roadblock without hitting it

Again you can actually earn this by dodging a spike strip roadblock, otherwise most roadblocks have an opening that you can drive through to avoid collision.

Battering Ram
Smash through a roadblock without crashing

Actually you can earn this while going for Rim Shot, hitting a spike strip will count. Outside of that trophy slam through a roadblock in the F-150 Raptor, it is essentially a battering ram.

Sidewinder
Do a 250 yard (228.6) drift

Very easy trophy. Find a wide enough area or road, like in Hughes Park, and drift. You should get it no problem but here is a helpful video.

Mauled
Wreck 10 cops in a single pursuit in the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

This trophy is very easy, even easier if you have the Reinforced Chassis and Impact Body Mods. Don't go all crazy with attacking the cops until heat level 2 or 3, if you take out the cops in level 1 you'll just evade. Take note the trophy will unlock during the pursuit so you don't have to evade to unlock it. Shoot for this trophy while earning The Heat is On.

Beast from the East
Escape from the cops in the Marussia B2

There are two ways to do this, you can either ram a cop car in freeroam or you can do the Ambush race for this car. An Ambush, as indicated above, is an event where cops, well, ambush you and you must evade capture in a certain amount of time. It is easier to ram a cop car in freeroam, try to take him out at the same time, and either enter a bodyshop or jack a different car to evade.

Iron Boots
Drive over 5 spike strips with re-inflates equipped

The re-inflation tires can be obtained in one of the last events of any car. Once you get it, you should be able to unlock this trophy when getting chased by the cops in a race or just free roaming.

Gladiator
Takedown every racer at least once in a single race

This is easiest on the race Turf War for the F-150 Raptor. The race is tight and slow there are speed and is basically a loop around a section of Hughes Park. There are only 5 other racers and all are Raptors so it is fair game. Just smash them one by one into objects, plenty of narrow spots in this race and you'll get it. Recommend you have at least Burn Nitrous.

Another method has been found and confirmed by Jahat.

Using the Lamborghini Gallardo, go to the first race (Power Play; Easy). There are five racers in front of you, and all you have to do is take them down before passing them. Here's a video showing that method he found, executing it in 1 minute.

Escape Velocity
Jump over 200 yards (182.88 meters) through a Billboard

This is easily done in a Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. You'll need to hit a billboard that is just in front of a ramp, you need to get air after all, and land without crashing. Below is a video on how to get it, video creator uses an Ariel Atom 500 V8 which is also a great choice.

Fast Forward
Trigger a speed camera at over 200mph (321.97km/h)

This trophy is relatively easier to get using the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport, with or without any mods on it. I got this trophy on the first race where the small freeway ends and there's an upcoming left turn. I recommend just going on the highway and going as fast as you can while avoiding traffic. Eventually, you will get it either in a race or just driving around. Here is a video to help.
