[top]Trophies

[top]
Best Actor
Unlock all trophies.

So when you've unlocked all other trophies, this will unlock. That is the final curtainfall.

[top]
Recapitated
Obtain your first head.

You will get this on Act I, Curtain I. As soon as you can play you will need to investigate some rubbish. This will make a skeleton head appear. Walk into it to pick it up, and the trophy should unlock.

[top]
What the Cat Drags In
Investigate the environment for the first time.

As soon as the game starts (In Act I, Curtain I) you will be introduced to a cat name Ying-Yang. You can control him with the right analog stick. Press to investigate a suspicious looking object. Once that has been done the trophy unlocks.

[top]
Calibrus Unleashed
Make your first cut with Calibrus.

Still being in Act I, Curtain I, you'll eventually steal Calibrus from the Moon Bear King. You make a cut by pressing . This is your main form of attack in the game, so this will be the first cut of many.

[top]
Soul Searcher
Rescue your first soul.

Shortly after obtaining Calibrus, you'll need to fight a grub, which is the most common enemy. You will need to knock it down with Calibrus and then cut the container to the soul, to release the soul. You'll get the trophy of that shortly after.

[top]
Double Trouble
Play with a friend for the first time.

Once you plug in a second controller, the game will register it and give you the trophy. Nothing magical here.

[top]
A Toothache Named Disaster
Defeat General Tiger.

General Tiger is the first real boss you'll face. He is found in Act I, Curtain III. The main is to jump over his electro-shock and then block his paw. After that has been done a few times he is easy to take down.

[top]
Death of a Sales Rat
Defeat General Rat.

Rat is fought in Act II, Curtain II. His fight is more about cleaning up the mess from the trees using bombs. Block his charge and use the other tree to clean one tree up. After the trees are cleaned it's a simple game of cat and mouse and you just need to chase him and throw bombs at him.

[top]
Long Snake's Journey Into Plight
Defeat General Snake.

You'll face snake in Act II, Curtain III. Snake really isn't a boss fight. He's more of a level that ends with a quick time event. The QTE is even pretty easy.

[top]
Much Apork About Mutton
Defeat Generals Pig and Sheep.

You'll fight against Sheep and Pig in Act III, Curtain III. This a fight versus a big robot. First you need to take out its legs with the hookclaw and then Calibrus. After that you can hurt its interior. You then need to throw bombs into its tractor beam so they explode inside it.

[top]
The Flawed Couple
Defeat General Horse.

Horse is faced off in Act IV, Curtain II. As soon as she fires missiles you can go behind her, slam the ground and cut the steam and slam her engine. You do that three times. It's actually a pretty easy fight.

[top]
The Taming of the Moo
Defeat General Bull.

Bull can be a tough fight. You battle him in Act IV, Curtain III. You need to slam the ground so the wall appear as he is charging at you. You then need to get above him and slam him. He gets quicker and angrier making the last part a bit of a pain, but very doable.

[top]
Dog on a Short Tin Leash
Defeat General Dog.

You duel dog in Act V, Curtain I. He is a decent challenge. He works a lot like Tiger. You need to jump first and then block. You then need to slam a bone, from above, so he gets distracted and then slam him in the head.

[top]
Fiddler on the Roof
Defeat General Robo-Dog.

Robo-dog is in Act V, Curtain III. Robo-dog is much like the normal dog, only now with rockets and electroshochks and stuff. In the first phase you need to slam his hands to hurt him. After that he fires tons of missiles, which are easily avoidable. When her fires two big missiles you can cut up the air and slam him.

[top]
Bye Bye Bunnie
Defeat General Rabbit.

Rabbit is in Act VI, Curtain I. You defeat Rabbit by slamming the marked ground, when he does his folding trick. And then you cut of ropes to boxes, when you get to the higher part of the level. He's actually a really easy boss.

[top]
La Cage aux Fowls
Defeat General Rooster.

You fight Rooster in Act VI, Curtain II. He is a bit tough, you constantly have to battle a hook with your hookclaw. Once you get it free he flies up into the air and you have to follow him cut some of his feathers. This is pretty much the fight. His wind attacks are annoying.

[top]
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way up the Dragon
Defeat General Dragon.

You'll fight Dragon in Act VI, Curtain III. He is kind of a lazy boss. He mostly just spits fire at you and then you have to throw a bomb at his limbs or use your hookclaw. He then spawns enemies you need to clear, and that whole routine repeats. It's also a very long battle.

[top]
The Spacemonkey Falleth
Defeat General Monkey.

You fight Monkey in Act VII, Curtain I. He is a surprisingly easy boss. He makes up small waves of rockets and you just need to dodge them one by one, by either jumping or ducking. Then you just cut in a lot of constellations and that's it.

[top]
Ursus Descending
Defeat the Moon Bear King.

The Moon Bear King is the final boss and you will see him in Act VII, Curtain III. He has multiple stages. In the first stage, you need to bomb the underside of his feet, while dodging his stomping. In the second stage you need to undo a hook, while avoiding his fists. In the third stage you deflect his arms while dodging his other attacks. In the fourth stage you need to wait until he gets his fangs stuck in the ground and then slam his head. And then you have completed the game.

[top]
Sparktacular
Collect all the Hundredsparkles using Kutaro.

Hundredsparkles are the sparkles which are bigger and gives a life when acquired. How to get these can at times be a bit cryptic, and they're also in general the hardest to get collectibles. Check the "Collectibles" section below to see where to get them.

[top]
Bonus Maximus
Complete all Bonus Stages within the time limit.

There is a total of 21 bonus stages in the game, one in each curtain. They're accessed by using a prompted head action, so you will likely find them all while going for: "Now That's Using Your Head (Hur, Hur) ". For a list of all look at the collectibles guide at the bottom of the page.

Finding them is one thing beating them is another. You need to collect all moonsparkles before the timer runs out. If you have a second player this becomes ridiculously easy, since you can just fly around and get them, whereas if you play alone you need to physically get to them, which is harder, but not terribly difficult.

[top]
Shear Genius?
Make 10,000 cuts with Calibrus.

You get Calibrus in the very first level. After achieving it you can cut stuff with the button. 10,000 cuts are a lot, and it's not sure if you actually need to cut things with these cuts or if you can just cut the air and have it still count. You will likely get this for cleaning up the rest of the trophies so don't think too much about this trophy.

[top]
It's a Grubby Job, But
Defeat 1,000 grubs.

Grubs are the standard enemy. They're corrupted children in a dark purple spikey body. You defeat them by cutting them and they will reveal their soul canister. Cut the canister to defeat them. There are around a thousand in the game, so you will definitely unlock this trophy while backtracking and cleaning up.

[top]
Moon Gravity
Use cuts 100 times to juggle grubs and keep them in the air.

While defeating grubs, they fly around when you cut them. They will fly up and you can point upwards and continue cutting to juggle them. You don't have to do this on a single grub. You just need 100 juggle cuts cumulative. This will unlock early.

[top]
Super Chivalry Deflection Master
Perform 300 successful Guards.

In Act I, Curtain III, you will get a shield, which you can use while pressing . You need to point in the right direction for the shield to face the attack. Once an attack has been blocked and you don't lose your head, it has been counted as successful. Do this in a total of 300 times. Remember the shield has to recharge after every block.

[top]
Super Ninjitsu Kablooey Master
Defeat 3 grubs with a single Bomb.

You'll get the ninja bomb in Act II, Curtain I. You use it by pressing . This is easily done with every group of four or more grubs. Have them close together and press the grub closest to it will stupidly pick it up and juggle it a bit before it explodes. Bombs are one hit kills, so you don't need to work them up or anything. Just throw them when it fits the best.

[top]
Super Luchador Pancake Master
Defeat 30 grubs using Body Slams.

Body Slam is unlocked in Act IV, Curtain I. You use it by jumping and pressing . You just need to hit them, since it's a one hit kill. 30 grubs are not that many. The further up the slam is the more damage you will deal in that particular area, meaning you can potentially hit more enemies with one slam, if you do it from above.

[top]
Super Buccaneer Grapple Master
Defeat 100 grubs after reeling them in with the Hookclaw.

The hookclaw is unlocked in Act III, Curtain I. You use it on hooks and enemies by pressing . For this you need an enemy. Hook on to it by pressing and it will fly towards you, where it will be stunned in a short time, giving you an easy one hit kill with . Do this 100 times in total. I actually recommend this as your main method since it's quick and easy. 100 can be a lot if you don't get used to the attack and have to grind for it, but it will eventually come. It's not a hard trophy.

[top]
The Other Flying Circus
Perform 20 consecutive Boost Cuts without touching the ground.

You learn Boost Cuts in Act III, Curtain III. You need to learn the timing since you need to get 20 Boost Cuts in a row. Now, you obviously need a good place to this with a lot of roomy cutting material. I suggest the frog mini-boss fight in Act II, Curtain II. You can just keep Boost Cutting upwards, even though Kutaro hits a wall it doesn't stop him, so you can just keep going like that. You need to focus vaguely on the frog's attacks, but it shouldn't be too problematic.

[top]
Surgical Striker
Cut all the souls from all the Weavers without letting a single one recover.

Weavers are boss fights. They usually involve cutting a piece of cloth to hurt them. After each of them gets knocked out they release a lot of soul canisters. Usually between 20 and 40. For all weavers you need to cut all 20 to 40 souls before they regain consciousness and take back the soul canisters. This is a bit tricky but not hard. It's really annoying though. The worst one is the second weaver the knight, since you need to be suspended in the air at all times. If you fall on the ground it instantly wakes up again. There are 6 weavers in total and they're located in these levels:
Act I, Curtain I.
Act I, Curtain II.
Act II, Curtain I.
Act III, Curtain I.
Act IV, Curtain I.
Act V, Curtain III.

[top]
I'll Second String YOU!
PLAYER 2: Defeat 50 grubs.

Player 2 defeats grubs by hovering over them and repeatedly pressing , until they get the head off. This needs to be done for 50 grubs. The last two levels of the game are excellent choices to grind this, if you don't play with a friend. 50 are not that many, and can be knocked out relatively quickly.

[top]
Lead Sparkleholic
Collect 10,000 Moonsparkles.

Moonsparkles are the main thing to get, just like coins in Super Mario. When you have a hundred you get an extra life. They're everywhere. Sometimes they're just on the path waiting to be picked up, other times they come when you examine things. While 10,000 is a lot you'll most likely get it at the end of normal play. You'll probably have it when you go for all of the cleaning up of the collectibles. Don't worry too much about this trophy.

[top]
Supporting Sparkleholic
PLAYER 2: Collect 3,000 Moonsparkles.

Player 2, also collect moonsparkles by walking into them. 3000 can be a lot if you don't play with a friend. The quickest way to get this out of the way is to load up a bonus level, and just use the second player to gather all of the moonsparkles. Once you get to 3000 the trophy unlocks. There is no way to know how many you have collected already.

[top]
Three-Second Rule
Pick up your fallen head 100 times.

Every time you get hit you lose your head. You then have a few seconds to pick it up again before it disappears. You pick up your lost head, simply by walking into it. This will need to be done a total of 100 times for the trophy to unlock. This will very likely unlock through normal gameplay, so don't worry about this.

[top]
Head Hunter
Find 50 different types of heads.

See: "Now That's Using Your Head (Hur, Hur) ".

[top]
Head Hoarder
Find every type of head.

See: "Now That's Using Your Head (Hur, Hur) ".

[top]
Soul Searcherer
Rescue a ton of captive souls.

See: "Soul Searcherest ".

[top]
Soul Searcherest
Rescue all of the captive souls.

You free captive souls by defeating grubs. Grubs are in every level and serves as the main enemy. You know, you've released a soul when a small white line (which is the soul) moves upwards and out of sight. You will see after each level how many souls you've rescued and you can see how many souls there are for each level, by selecting the level, and look at the overview box. One grub will only give one soul, so you need to kill all grubs at least once each. There is a total of 592 grubs. In the collectible guide, you'll find all of the souls in the "Souls" section.

[top]
Read Between the Lines
Read all the picture books.

After the completion of every act you get a storybook which can be accessed through the main menu. It's a short story about one of the characters from the game. You can either choose to listen to them or skip through them using the button. Once you've seen the end of all books you get this trophy.

[top]
The Tyrant's Inner Tyrant
Open the nested Moon Bear King doll all the way.

You'll get this after acquiring the Hookclaw and then returning to Act I, Curtain I. When you get calibrus, an alarm will trigger and a gate will face you. Use your hookshot on the hook to reveal a matryoshka doll. Quickly examine it until it gives you the sparkle.

[top]
Mass Exodus
Set 22 puppet children free in a single playthrough.

There are puppets in every level. Most of the time it's just the main three puppets you need to get for: "The Wooden Shoe Drops ", but sometimes there are other puppets too. Here you need to rescue 22 of them in one level in one playthrough. This can only be done in Act I, Curtain II. They are all marked in the "Fugitive" part of the "Collectibles" section, under "Act I, Curtain II". It's important to note that you can die, and you don't have to regather the puppets.

[top]
The Cruelty of Youth
Turn all the caterpillars into butterflies, then cut them down.

This is done in Act II, Curtain I. There are a total of 4 caterpillars to do this. You mostly need to look in the background, since 3 out of 4 of them is on bamboo in the background. The second caterpillar is on one of the ferocious evil purple bamboo in the foreground. You get them down by examining them, and afterward you need to quickly cut the butterflies that appear before they escape. It may take a few tries, but the caterpillars are only in the beginning of the level. It's important to note that you can NOT die during this, or you'll have to start over.

[top]
Fly Beta Kappa
Defeat the Kappagaeru without touching the ground.

The Kappagaeru is the frog mini-boss in the middle of Act II, Curtain II. As soon as you see the goo above you jump and cut it and then never touch the ground on either side. You can still drop bombs by pressing down on the analog stick and press . She will then open the flower on the head, and you need to do it once more. Now comes the hardest part. You'll magically be transported to one of the sides. Just keep cutting upwards and maybe you'll get it. Now do it twice more and the trophy is yours.

[top]
Every Squirrel Has Its Thorns
Anger the mother of all squirrels.

For this you need to backtrack to this level after you've gotten the Slam Power. In Act II, Curtain II, when you're climbing the tree you will see a big squirrel at around the top of the tree. Keep examining it with Pikarina until it attacks you, and this trophy will unlock.

[top]
Predictably Gullible
Shoot down all the seagulls using the deck cannons.

In Act III, Curtain I, you will go above deck for a second time. After a bit of walk you'll see a seagull and cannon. Examine the cannon while the seagull is in front of it. Right after are two other cannons and seagulls. Do it here as well, and you'll get this trophy.

[top]
Better Squidaddle
Don't take any damage while riding the squid.

In Act III, Curtain II, the beginning part of the level you surf on a squid. There are various obstacles to dodge. You need to either jump over or duck under sea urchins, and jump over cliffs. There are few platforming sections without a squid in between sections. These are pretty easy. If you have a shark head you can skip the last section. If you get hit you need to manually exit the level and replay it.

[top]
Crabherd: It's Like a Shepherd for Crabs
Keep all the baby crabs safe.

In Act III, Curtain III, you will get to the island. To the left of you are two groups of crabs. Examine them, to have them follow you. You need to get them past the spikey-barrels. Examine the breaking wall, to make the grubs stop, and fight you instead. After defeating the grubs you can lead the crabs to safety. After the first secret base, you need to do exactly the same for another herd of crabs. After the second base, there is another herd of crabs, but here you just need to examine them. After those crabs are safe you get the trophy.

[top]
Flagrant Misconduct
Foul the Witch in the wrestling ring.

When you get to the tutorial in Act IV, Curtain I, instead of walking over to the witch as commanded. Stand around the center at the screen. Throw a bomb at her and after she got knocked over use the hookclaw to grab her dress, and she will fall over, giving you this trophy.

[top]
Hole-Diggin' Varmints!
Save all the Wild Waste locals.

In Act IV, Curtain I, when you're in town there will be 7 Locals to save. One is on is on top of the Gunsmith Store. Here you'll need to examine the entrance to find him. Three of them are in prison, where two of them can't be missed. The last one you need to examine. The last three are inside the water tank on top of the water tower. Examine it to release them. After that the trophy should unlock.

[top]
Strapping Jockey
Win the train race without taking any damage.

You need to go through the entire train segment, both on horse and on train without losing your head even once. This can be a bit tricky. The horse sections are the worst, since they require quick thinking and reflexes. With time they can be learned. The train sections are easier since you can take your time. There are really no heads that can be used in your advantage, so here it's about skill and luck.

[top]
Is That a Mask, or Is That Your Face
Peek in on all the wrestlers' home lives.

In the first segments of Act IV, Curtain III, you need to open windows to peek at other people's lives. Just examine every window and you should get the trophy.

There are two windows in the first segment (one will throw a chest, you need to examine to open).
There are none in the second segment.
There are four in the next.
There are two in the last, but they're both on a slammable platform, and the first one you need to slam three times, and the other you just slam until you get the trophy.

[top]
Butterball Bailout
Find the secret route while on a diet.

This is done in Act V, Curtain II. Around the end of the "Diet" segment there will be a big pit of fire followed by a caterpillar. Bounce high off the caterpillar by pressing and holding to get to a secret area. At the end of it you will be awarded this sparkle.

[top]
Nosferatu Blues
Listen to Dracula's entire rant.

In Act V, Curtain III, you will at some point open the coffin of Dracula. He will start ranting about today's youth. He goes on for about two minutes before ending his aggressive speech. You need to be around at all times. After he is done the trophy pops up.

[top]
A Speech for Sore Ears
Wear yourself out listening to Mr. Pink.

This one is a bit weird. When you release Mr. Pink in Act VI, Curtain II, he will start talking. Your main objective is to not go to far ahead, so you skip any dialogue. At any time wait for the void of silence before moving on. You can't at any point interrupt the flamingo. If everything is done correctly, you will expect to see the trophy around the time Mr. Pink gets kidnapped.

[top]
Shmup to Scratch
Shoot down all the pigeon squadrons.

In Act VI, Curtain II, while climbing the outside of the clocktower, you'll see in total two birdhouses, examine them both and pigeons will come out. Examine them all, before they disappear. It's easy to get, so once you've examined all the trophy should unlock.

[top]
No Dragon Your Heels
Make it across General Dragon's back without taking any damage.

You need to make it through the starting part of Act VI, Curtain III, without getting hit and losing your head once. This is quite tough, but definitely doable. Jumping at the right times requires timing. Luckily this section isn't that long. Just focus on the road. As soon as you begin to cut the Dragon's tail the trophy should unlock.

[top]
On the Rocks
Reunite all the iceberg dwellers for a toast.

This is in the glacier part of Act VII, Curtain I. Here is a step by step guide to do this. We first need all guests for the toast.

1) From the start right, don't slam the ground, examine the snow to the right of the gap and use your hookclaw to destroy the fence. Pass through to find a guy. Examine him.
2) Go back, throw a bomb in the hole you just passed over. This will make a whole room appear with a guy inside.
3) When doing the skijump, you need to get longer than the length indexed by the sparkles. You know if you've done it when the guy cheers.
4) Going down the slide, when the snowball rolls after you, examine it until it breaks.
5) On the same slide get to the first seam and cut it. Examine the mammoth.
6) Cut your way to the mammoth "wheel-of-fortune". Let it do it's thing and then it will go away. Behind it is a frozen guy. Examine him.

Now you need to meet them all at halfway point of the glacier part. Examine the cups to take a photo and make them cheer, an then you'll get the trophy.

[top]
...But Can You Parallel Park?
Make it through outer space without taking any damage.

The outer space part is in Act VIII, Curtain I. You take a space ride, and you avoid martians. You need to get through the whole segment, without losing your head once. It's relatively easy, as long as you don't get confused when the gravity switches. You can only use the button so it's not hugely complex. Once you get to the Monkey boss fight without having lost your head, you know you've done it, and the trophy will unlock.

[top]
The Wooden Shoe Drops
Witness the end of each of the three puppet fugitives.

Throughout the game you'll come across the three puppet fugitives. Every time they appear you are closer to witness the end. The end is in Act VII, Curtain III, and you need to watch that one last. All of the fugitive end sequences can be found in the collectible guide under the "Fugitive" section. There are quite a few, mostly 2-4 per level. The total is 36.

[top]
Luna Kazooed
Watch the Moon Witch transform Pikarina and Ying Yang in every possible way.

When the witch is on the scene, she is usually there for some sort of tutorial. You can hit her by examining her three times and she will transform either Ying-Yang or Pikarina into something. You need to do this all 6 times to get the trophy. For how to do it, check the "Transformations" section in the trophy guide on where each and everyone of these are.

[top]
Now That's Using Your Head (Hur, Hur)
Use every Head Action correctly.

There are 100 Heads spread throughout the game. You can get a head, by doing various stuff, but they're mostly just hidden in the scenery. After acquiring a head you also need to use it. Sometimes a projection of the head flickers on the screen. That is an indication that you can use that certain head successfully there. You need to do this with all 100 heads.

You can see your progress in the "Head Collection" tab in the main menu. You can see which heads you have by seeing if there in there, and you can see if you've used that head successfully by seeing if there is a blue ribbon with a half moon on it.

For locations of all heads and locations check the "Heads and Actions" section of the collectible guide.

[top]
Triple Tete
Arm yourself with three of the same head.

When you acquire a head it's stored in a slot of three. You need to store all three slots with the same type of head. It's easy to do this with the skeleton head. Load up Act I, Curtain II, and get to the skeleton action. Here a pot will usually drop the skeleton head. Now lose all your heads and repeat the process until you have 3 slots filled with the same head and the trophy will unlock.

[top]
Who Needs Enemies?
