[top]Tips and Strategies

Combat

  • Strafing is a great way to stay alive during heated battles.
  • Use large area of effect weapons when swarmed with enemies, such as the Arbiter or Harbinger.
  • You can level up weapons to level 99 (maximum), so choose your favorite weapon and upgrade it even more if you wish, and gain a small damage bonus.
  • Your bots are almost useless and I recommend not upgrading them until you're almost finished with the skill points and have a lot of expendable bolts.
  • Remember to use your Holoshield Launcher when you are close to death and need instant cover. Upgrading this to level 10 bounces the bullets back to the shooter.

[top]Roadmap

Step 1: Casual Playthrough

I mean casual in the most literal form. Pick up skill points here and there, and buy as many weapons as you can but don't worry about any of that yet. Try to level up a few weapons to level 10 before the end of the playthrough. Also try to complete all of the challenges in this playthrough, so you'll have an easier time in the next step.

Step 2: Challenge Mode + Skill Point Clean-Up

Use this playthrough to gain bolts, weapons, skill points and levelling up weapons. Gaining bolts is so much easier in challenge mode, use them to buy weapons and use the weapons until they are level 10. Use your level 10 weapons to have an easier time getting the skill points.

The Showstopper
Earn 200,000 Dread Points

Dread Points are awarded after completing a Dread Challenge, which are unlocked by finishing the campaign missions for each planet. Some give you more points than others. You can replay dread challenges to farm the points if you wish, but you can get 200,000 before even finishing all of them anyway, so there's no point. If you complete all of the dread challenges in order, you'll get this after finishing one of the two Dread Challenges that unlock after the Vindicator tournament. All of the challenges are pretty straightforward and don't consist of much. If you are having trouble, you can always change your difficulty before loading a save.

[top]
4 the Win!
Collect 4 Million Bolts

You get bolts for completing challenges and killing enemies. By the end of your first playthrough, if you've completed every challenge, you should have about a million bolts. Do note that this trophy is cumulative and you do not need to have 4,000,000 bolts on hand for this trophy. Once you finish the game, start Challenge Mode; it's here that you can really start raking in the bolts. Get your multiplier up to 20x and you should be getting 100,000 bolts in seconds. If you are having trouble getting bolts, play the challenge Endzone in the DreadZone Station with a 20x multiplier to get millions of bolts in minutes.

[top]
Perfect!?
Upgrade All Weapons to Level 10

You upgraded weapons simply by getting kills with them. Killing enemies nets your weapon XP that levels up the weapon. This trophy requires you to level up all of your weapons to level 10. There is a total of 10 weapons, some better than others. Below is a list of each weapon and their cost to purchase them from a vendor.

An easy method to upgrade most weapons is this: in Challenge Mode, play and finish the Crusader tournament. This will unlock the Endzone Dread challenge. Farm XP (and bolts) in this challenge. Put the Shock Mod on whatever weapon you want to upgrade and just keep shooting the endless waves of swarmers. You'll probably be able to get to level 10 within one or two playthroughs of Endzone.

Notice how I said "most weapons" above. This is because the Holoshield Launcher SUCKS and doesn't level up much from this challenge, since it needs to block attacks and most enemies are swarmers. However, there is an easy way to level it up as well. Go to Kronos, and select Infiltrating the Cathedral. Kill all of the immediate enemies that are around the turret and get to farming. Place as many shields as you can in front of the turret, then hop in and shoot it. You'll notice that the XP meter will fill quite quickly. Keep placing the shields and shooting them until it's level 10. If you need more, just buy more ammo from the vendor at the beginning of the level.
Weapons Bolt Price
B6-Obliterator 15,000
Dual Vipers Free
Fusion Rifle 50,000
Holoshield Launcher 20,000
Hunter Mine Launcher 35,000
Magma Cannon Free
Mini Turret Launcher 100,000
Scorpion Flail 75,000
The Arbiter 60,000
The Harbinger 2,000,000

[top]
Aiming is Overrated
Purchase the Harbinger Weapon

The Harbinger is available to buy about 3/4 of the way through the game and it costs 2,000,000 bolts. I do not recommend that you save up for this during your first playthrough, instead, go for it in Challenge Mode because you can get a 20x bolt multiplier going, which can net you hundreds of thousands of bolts in seconds. If you are really desperate in Challenge Mode, keep playing the challenge Endzone in the DreadZone Station.

Maaaaaadd Skills!
Earn All 165 Skill Points

Skill points have been in every Ratchet & Clank game, they are rewards/incentive to do things that you may not normally do, much like trophies. There are 15 skill points on each planet, and there are 11 planets; meaning there are 165 skill points to get. Below is a list of every skill point and how to get them.

Line 'em Up
Earn "In a Row" on Valix

In A Row: Use the Fusion Rifle to kill two enemies in one attack.

I did this on "Let the Light Shine Through". Early in the challenge, you get to a part that has two Executioners standing side-by-side. Equip the Fusion Rifle with, preferably, the Freeze Mod and line up the Executioners. My Fusion Rifle was level 6 at the time, so it takes two shots to kill an Executioner. Anyway, go to the side of them and try to get them in a straight line. Then shoot once, they should both be frozen in place. Shoot again to pick up this easy skill point.

Tri Me... I Dare Ya!
Upgrade 3 Weapons to Level 10

Level 10 is the max level for a weapon without getting the mega version of that weapon. To level up a weapon, you simply need to kill enemies with it and gain XP. Levelling a weapon up to level 10 unlocks a very useful alpha mod and changes the name of the weapon. The first three weapons I upgraded to level 10 were the Magma Cannon, Dual Vipers and the Fusion Rifle, those three are my favorite weapons.

Side Questing
Earn all the Skill Points on Torval

Like all planets, there are 15 skill points to get on Torval. See Maaaaaad Skills! for tips on how to get them. These skill points are:
  • Frenzied: Morph five Laser Backs into animals.
  • Bits And Pieces: Use the B6 Obliterator to kill 20 DZ Strikers.
  • Hard Luck: Complete any challenge on Exterminator Difficulty.
  • Hard To Hit: Complete the "Seek and Destroy" challenge in 2:45.
  • Unfair Game: Kill 15 enemies with three different mods in 40 seconds.
  • Mined Out: Kill 30 enemies using the Hunter Mine Launcher.
  • No Help: Complete any challenge without using health crates.
  • Dead On: Kill 10 Robot Zombies with Napalm.
  • Not A Scratch: Complete any challenge without taking damage.
  • In The Open: Destroy 10 barrels in any challenge.
  • Muniez: Find and break three Jackpot Crates.
  • Stripped: Complete any challenge without using Omega mods.
  • I'm Melting: Kill 25 enemies with the Acid Mod.
  • Far Away From It All: Use the Fusion Rifle to kill 10 Executioners.
  • Quick Fix: Kill five Robot Zombies in 30 seconds with the wrench.

Show Me the Money
Earn "Show Me The Money" on the Ghost Station

Show me the Money: Destroy five bolt crates.

This is a little tough, I only know for sure where four crates are, the other should be destroyed during regular gameplay (use lots of explosives to help). In "Running the Gauntlet", there's a crate to the left of the starting point, behind a pillar. Keep going left and checking behind the pillars until you find it. Next, there's one that's attached to the wall in one of the bolt crank rooms. Another is on the island with the robot zombies, along the outer-rim of the area. The last one that I know of is during the last stretch of "Running the Gauntlet". When all bolts have been cranked, run down the pathway that opened up. When the path goes left, look behind an explosive barrel on the left side to find this in the corner.

The Price of Freedom
Earn 105 Skill Points

You'll earn this on the way to Maaaaaad Skills!. See that trophy for more information.

[top]
All 4 Me!?
Collect 400,000 Bolts

Bolts are CUMULATIVE, meaning you CAN spend them on things and they will still count towards your total. YOU DO NOT NEED THEM ON HAND. You should get this trophy early on in the game, around finishing Kronos or so depending on how many times you died.

See 4 the Win! for more information.

[top]
Nano-tastic!
Increase Nanotech to 50

50 nanotech is by no means the maximum. You can increase your max health by simply killing enemies for XP. You should be able to get this trophy well before the end of the game, depending on how many times you died. I still have 2-3 planets left when I got this, so it really isn't tough.

[top]
Epic Flail
Earn Medieval Power in Valix

Medieval Power: Use the Scorpion Flail to kill 50 enemies.

This is pretty simple. Equip the flail, it's a good thing to have the Shock Mod on it, and use it primarily in the first challenge (Lost and Found). If you manage to kill everyone with it, you should get this skill extremely quick. Why this is a is beyond me.

Dome-mination
Earn All Skill Points in the Dreadzone Battledome

The skill points in the DreadZone Station are really easy to get and will most likely be the first that you get all the skill points in. Below is a list of skill points that you will need for this trophy, check Maaaaaad Skills! for tips on how to achieve them.
  • Skillful: In the challenge "Grist for the Mill", kill 10 enemies in a row with the same weapon.
  • Fiver: In the challenge "Grist for the Mill", kill five enemies without taking any damage.
  • Get Some Balls: Destroy five Bladeballs in 15 seconds.
  • Ankle Biters: Kill ten Swarmers in ten seconds.
  • The Protector: Kill five Tremors with the Magma Cannon in 20 seconds.
  • Eagle Eye: Complete any challenge with an accuracy above 75 percent.
  • Can't Touch This: Complete any challenge without taking damage.
  • Speedy: Complete the challenge "Manic Speed Demon" in less than 60 seconds.
  • Dead Again: In the challenge "Zombie Attack," kills 50 Robot Zombies.
  • The Bomb: Blow up 15 barrels.
  • Five in One: Kill five Swarmers in one shot.
  • Two in One: Use the Fusion Rifle to kill two enemies in one shot.
  • Reactionary: Defeat Reactor in 30 seconds.
  • Eviscerator Raider: Defeat Eviscerator using only the Flail.
  • Ace In The Hole: Defeat Ace Hardlight without taking any damage.

Dodge This...
Upgrade Any Weapon to Level 10

Level 10 is the max level for a weapon without getting the mega version of that weapon. To level up a weapon, you simply need to kill enemies with it and gain XP. Levelling a weapon up to level 10 unlocks a very useful alpha mod and changes the name of the weapon. The very first weapon I upgraded to level 10 was the Magma Cannon, as it's my favorite weapon.

What Are These 4?
Collect 40,000 Bolts

Bolts are CUMULATIVE, meaning you CAN spend them on things and they will still count towards your total. YOU DO NOT NEED THEM ON HAND. You should get this trophy very early on in the game, around finishing Catacrom 4 or so depending on how many times you died.

See 4 the Win! for more information.

Shock-King
Earn the 'Can't Hit Me' Skill on Kronos

Can't Hit Me: In the challenge "Shellshock Returns," defeat Shellshock without taking any damage.

I used the Fusion Rifle and just ran circles around the arena. Luckily, there were ammo crates around where I was running so I wouldn't run out of ammo with the Fusion Rifle, and I was able to take him down with only that. Be careful of the missiles that Shellshock shoots and also of the bouncing mines that he throws.

[top]
Meltdown
Earn the 'Reactionary' Skill in the Battledome

Reactionary: Defeat Reactor in 30 seconds.

In 0:23 I was able to kill Reactor, using only the Fusion Rifle and Arbiter. It's a good idea to level these weapons up a bit (my Fusion Rifle was level 5 and Arbiter was level 3) so they can deal more damage. Equip whatever mods you feel comfortable with. Just never stop shooting and try to not miss with the Fusion Rifle or you'll lose crucial time.

[top]
Buggin' Out
Earn the 'Eviscerator Raider' Skill in the Battledome

Eviscerator Raider: Defeat Eviscerator using only the Flail.

This is easier than you may think. When he just comes at you slashing, unload on him with the flail. Then he'll start shooting a laser beam. At this point is when you're gonna want to dodge him. Hit him when you can to make him move away and he'll repeat the process. You can be almost invincible while he is slashing at you if you just wail on him with the flail. His minions can be killed in one hit with a higher level flail, so don't worry about them too much.

[top]
Ace Gets Clubbed
Earn the 'Ace In The Hole' Skill in the Battledome

Ace In The Hole: Defeat Ace Hardlight without taking any damage.

Needless to say, this is extremely difficult. When you start, throw a holoshield in front of you, this blocks his blaster shots from hitting you. Then lay into him with the Dual Vipers until he turns his shield on and spawns clones. Throw another shield in front of you, and equip the Magma Cannon to do damage to all of the clones and Ace himself. When the clones go away, go back to the Dual Vipers. He'll shoot a missile-like thing that follows you, and now is when you'll want to strafe around the arena non-stop. Take his health down with the vipers, then he'll get his clones back in. Just use the Magma Cannon to kill them all, and now use either the Dual Vipers or the Arbiter. Keep strafing around the arena and jumping Ace's blaster shots or using a shield and dodging the tracking missile. Eventually, you'll take his health down fully and unlock this skill point.

Rookie
Earn "I Dare Ya!" on Catacrom Four

I Dare Ya!: Complete any challenge without healing.

There's a simple way to do this. In On the Prowl, crank all of the nodes. Then, die. When you respawn, the nodes will still be cranked and you'll have a clear path to the objective. Just run to the swing shot areas and swing over to the Landstalker, running past all of the enemies and without grabbing any health crates.

[top]
Skill Points are Blooming!
Earn 60 Skill Points

There is a total of 165 skill points in Ratchet: Deadlocked. If you are really efficient and earn every single one in each planet before moving on, you'll get this after finishing Kronos. However I don't recommend that and I don't even think it's possible. Getting them as I went along, I managed to unlock this trophy in Orxon.

See Maaaaaad Skills! for a complete list of skill points.

[top]
Runway Robots
Earn 'Dead Again' in Battledome

Dead Again: In the challenge "Zombie Attack," kills 50 Robot Zombies.

In "Zombie Attack", you have to survive for three minutes against a zombie horde. It is hard to miss this, as I managed to get this skill with 45 seconds to spare. They come in groups of two or three, I liked to keep the Magma Cannon handy at all times as it can blow through a group in one shot.

[top]
Going Nowhere Fast
Earn 50,000 Dread Points

You earn Dread Points by completing Dread Challenges. Dread Challenges are unlocked after finishing a planet's campaign. Some challenges net you more than others. You can tell how many you have on the planet select screen. This trophy should be unlocked around Shaar, assuming you've been completing all Dread Challenges prior.

See The Showstopper for more information.

[top]
Selective Shooting
Earn the 'Fodder Follies' Skill on the Ghost Station

Fodder Follies: Kill 15 Ghost DZ Strikers in a row with the same weapon.

Do this in "Running the Gauntlet", and use the Arbiter. You have to only kill DZ Strikers, the regular troops in this challenge. You CAN NOT kill executioners or any other enemies while going for this skill point. Just keep running around killing only DZ Strikers with the Arbiter until you get this.

[top]
Cat Scratch Fever
Earn the 'Speed Bumps' Skill on Planet Maraxus

Speed Bumps: In the challenge "Total Control," "Roadkill" 10 enemies.

When you start, turn around and run over everyone there and by the node. This is an easy place to roadkill people.

[top]
Spotless
Earn the 'Not a Scratch' Skill on Planet Torval

Not A Scratch: Complete any challenge without taking damage.

As long as you don't crash into exploding barrels in "Seek and Destroy", you'll get this.

[top]
Death from Above
Earn the 'Schooled' Skill on the Valix Belt

Schooled: Kill 30 Pincer Rays using the Hovership.

A few things I'm unsure of here. After trying so many times on "Space Ace", I would kill all Pincer Rays in sight (the flying enemies in the hovership challenges that appear dark-red on the mini-map). But, first try and killing much less, I used only the missiles on the hovership to kill the pincer rays, earning the skill point. These spawn in the middle of the map and are easy to find, just make sure to kill them with missiles.

[top]
Landstalker Talkin'
Earn the 'Light Speed' Skill on Planet Orxon

Light Speed: Complete the challenge "Chains of Villainy" in less than 1:30.

My biggest tip: never stop moving. Hold down to charge the mortars all the time, and unload them on the objectives. If you don't stop moving this is so easy.

[top]
Gut Wrencher
Earn the 'Low Blow' Skill on Planet Stygia

Low Blow: Use the wrench to kill 5 Executioners.

Get this on "Energy Collector". Make sure you have the last wrench upgrade and keep pressing and on the Executioners and you can kill them in 2-3 hits.
