Helpful Tips for Any Playthrough
- Do NOT forget to pick up the main map for Silent Hill after you come out of the mines. It's on a table in the ruined building you end up after your roller coaster ride through the mines.
- Keep Track of your kill stats in the statistics menu if you are trying to avoid kills or limit the number for good endings.
- If you get badly hurt, simply press
directional button to use med kit in game. - Always check post boards in game for mysteries and check every area before proceeding forward to save from missing anything.
- If you think you've messed up, check the load saves as it auto saves and keeps a number of different points to reload from.
- Each playthrough can ultimately net you 2 endings, by reloading after making a choice and doing the opposite.
- Not attacking Cunningham at all or dying during the ending will acquire you no ending trophies and you will watch a generic poor ending.
- Being careful outdoors in the storm and rain as this causes enemies to be more aggressive and dangerous.
- Save fighting for when you need to and avoid most enemies if possible on harder plays or when lack of weapons.
- Some side quests require you to ultimately kill enemies so try to complete them all on a playthrough when you can kill some, such as bad karma.
- Killing enemies and the two help/leave choices in the game will affect your karma tendency. The choices impact much more, but kills will build up to bad. Sparing enemies will lower bad karma and grant you postive.
- all trophies are in XMB order, making it easier for you to navigate through the guide

Here is what I consider to be the best and most enjoyable way to
Rain Maker:
First Playthrough: Enjoy the game ...on hard difficulty
My recommendation: Set both combat difficulty and puzzle difficulty to hard. This is your good karma playthrough, so you don't want to kill too many monsters anyway. Try to skip as many fights as possible and get
Capital Punishment,
Puzzle Master and
Good Behavior out of the way. It might sound funny, but
Good Behavior is actually easier when playing on hard, as it's 'harder' to accidentally kill enemies Combat in Silent Hill Downpour sucks anyway, so it's more fun this way too. If you are not sure if you killed a monster you can always hit
and check your statistics. In case you screwed up just reload an older save. If you are having any difficulties with those puzzles check the Puzzle Solutions at the end of this guide.
Don't bother yourself too much with sidequests on this playthrough, you can't to all of them at this point anyway, because for
Silent Alarm you have to kill a bunch of enemies which you obviously don't want to do in this playthrough. If you always picked the good choices and if you didn't kill too many enemies (I killed 8 and everything was fine) you should be able to get
Ending A and
Ending C at the end of this playthrough.
Second Playthrough: Side Quests and Kill trophies
Recommendation: Set combat difficutly to easy or medium. You'll have some killing to do in this playthrough, better to do this on an easier difficulty to save ammo and nerves (boy did they screw up this combat system...) Moreover, you'll want to finish all the side quests in this playthrough except for
Useless Trinkets! The side quest required for this trophy ('Digging Up the Past') is not needed for
Silent Hill Tour Guide. It's an extra side quest which will trigger the surprise ending at the end of the game. Just complete the other 13 side quests and make sure to fill Murphy's journal for
Silent Hill Historic Society. Get the kill trophies out of the way. Make sure to open all the safes so you'll have enough ammo for
Gun Control . If you didn't get
Hypochondriac on your first run, make sure to get it now. Always be the bad guy and you will obtain
Ending B and
Ending D at the end of this playthrough.
Third Playthrough: Digging Up the Past and Clean Up
You should only have two trophies left at this point. Check if you missed any other trophy, then run trough the game, ignoring pretty much everything except for the 'Digging Up the Past' side quest to unlock
Useless Trinkets,
Ending E and

After you've finally reached Silent Hill you are free to roam the town. While you are exploring you might as well get
Calling All Cars. However, if you want to progress in the story you need to get to another part of the town. Since all the roads are blocked you have to find a different route. You are looking for a house at the end of Lansdale Avenue with an open gate leading to the backyard. Have a look at the video in
Calling All Cars if you are having trouble finding the place. There is a ladder in the backyard which can be pulled down. You will find the special weapon needed for this leaning on a nearby bench. Pull down the ladder (don't use
but
when you are standing in front of it) and climb up to the balcony. Pick up the police report, then follow the balcony to a narrow bridge which leads over to the apartment building. Cross the bridge and enter the building through the window. Make sure to complete
Neighborhood Watch while you are here...
Once you exit the building on the other side a cutscene will ensue. You'll meet the mightily mysterious mailman again, who will tell you where to find the radio station. Head over to Laymond Avenue and cross Logan's Park to find the entrance to the Centennial Building. There are a couple of puzzles in this building, if you are stuck check the puzzle solutions at the end of this guide. Once you meet the DJ the trophy will unlock.

Right after the cutscene with DJ Rick and Cunningham you will find yourself in a slightly different version of the studio. The others are gone again and you are on your own. Outside of the studio near the fridge you can find a bottle of diluent. Take it with you. Head down the hallway and you will find a fire exit which is locked. Conveniently enough there is a heap of flammable stuff lying around nearby. Pour your diluent over it and use the lighter to set it ablaze. Fire! Woohoooo! Unfortunately, this triggers the building's sprinkler system which, in turn, triggers the world around you to change into the Otherworld. Just like in the diner. Great. Another lengthy Otherworld chase ensues. Finish it, enjoy the epic ending and receive your next story related trophy.

You will be rewarded this trophy after you have found all three parts of a certain poem...
After your latest Otherworld experience you will wake up outside on a bench. Your friend, the mightily mysterious mailman, will deliver a letter to you. The letter is for a Murphy Paddington all right, but it's the address of the local orphanage. Weird. But that's how Silent Hill is. Weird. Well, at least you. Head over to the orphanage. A nun will welcome you, telling you there was no mistake. She will bid you inside and WHOOOOSH, she's gone. Vanished.

A nun will welcome you, telling you there was no mistake. She will bid you inside and WHOOOOSH, she's gone. Vanished.
Explore the orphanage and after some time you should meed a little boy playing with a toy car behind a locked door. He won't open the door for you, because it seems to be common knowledge that you are the boogeyman. The only thing that might convince the little dude otherwise is a poem which is said to spook away the boogeyman. So you need to bring him this poem in order to proceed.
The First Part of the poem can be found in the church hall. You can see a book lying on the altar in the sanctuary. Unfortunately there is are bars blocking your way. However, while you are exploring the church one of the chandeliers will crash down, dangling on its cable. Hint! Hint! Use a heavy weapon to bring down the other chandelier as well. It's fastened to one of the pillars. Once it is down you can interact with it to crash it into the bars. Do this two times and the way to the first part of the poem will be free.
For the Second Part of the poem you have to solve the theater puzzle. Just follow the notes of the technician. Here is what you are supposed to do:
- Switch of the lights (the switch is located next to the ladder)
- Play some atmospheric opening music on the gramophone (no record? check the desk in the room next door)
- Activate the spotlight and aim it at center stage (you've done it right when the curtain opens automatically)
- Activate the lever on the left for the first set of decoration.
- Activate the lever on the right. (No lever? It's lying around in the hall downstairs.)
- Make it rain. Use the cylindrical device with the crank in the corner of the room.
- Finally, use the hammer on the sheet of iron to produce some bad ass thunder.
After that, head down and follow the path to the cottage. Inside you will find a chest. To open it, you have to solve a simple puzzle. Rearrange the picture of the child on the beach and the chest will open, revealing the second part of the poem.
You will find the Third Part in the room with the X-ray unit. There are three more or less dead creature lying on examination table, one of them has a key and the last part of the poem in its belly. Wheel them into the X-ray unit and check which one is the lucky winner, then put your arm into it up to the elbow. Your controller will start to vibrate violently when you are coming nearer to the items. Locate them, then press
to retrieve them.

Yay! You've found the boat! Time to move on to greener pastures. Not in Cunningham's book, however. Yeah, it's her again, and as usual she is in a bad mood. She wants you to turn the boat around and go back to Silent Hill. She is holding you at gunpoint, but as you are stubborn as a mule this doesn't really help her case. You'll tell her that you won't go back no matter what; she might as well shoot you. Well, you asked for it, didn't you? Completed the "All Points Bulletin" side quest.
This trophy is missable!
The side-quest ‘All-Points Bulletin’ becomes available once you set foot in Silent Hill. Roaming the streets you will notice police cars patrolling the area. You can hear their horns when they are nearby, so you can hardly miss them. To trigger the quest you need to find one of those cars and stand in front of it to stop it. The quest will start and your new objectives are to stop the patrol cars and to find the police patrol dispatcher(Located in the Police Station, the dispatcher is just the radio inside on the desk for those confused).
There are four cars, and each of them has a unique call number. It's written on the side of the car. The game doesn't tell you this right now, but you'll need those four numbers to complete the side quest. You can either hunt down those four cars and write down the numbers or you can just use this guide.
Next thing you need to do is to find the police patrol dispatcher. The building you are looking for is situated near a dead end of Mc Cammon street. You will notice a building with a huge crack in the wall. Enter it and cross the beam, you will find the dispatch radio on the other side. Enter the four codes and punch recall to get your trophy. The codes are as follows:

Neighborhood Watch
Completed the "Stolen Goods" side quest.

Completed the "Stolen Goods" side quest.
This trophy is missable!
The side-quest ‘Stolen Goods’ takes place in an apartment building in Silent Hill. First thing you need to do is to get into the building. Watch out for a building at the end of Lansdale Ave. In the backyard you will find a fire ladder which can be pulled down. The weapon you need to do this is leaning against a bench nearby. Pull down the ladder (don't use
but
when you are standing in front of it) and climb up to the balcony. Pick up the police report, then follow the balcony to a narrow bridge which leads over to the apartment building. Cross the bridge and enter the building through the window.
Head up to the second floor. You will find a door with a note on it. Voilá, you found the home of the thief. Obviously he already regretted his wrongdoings. However, he left this world without returning the things he had stolen. This is your job now. Move the bed (
) and you will find the loot: A child's Money Box, a Locket, a War Medal and a Gold Watch.
You can get rid of the Locket and the Gold Watch right away, they belong to the apartment opposite of the thief's place. Place the locket on the table in the kitchen and the gold watch on the desk in the bedroom. Two down.
Head down to the first floor to get rid of the Money Box. It belongs into the child's room in the apartment opposite the one you entered through the window. Place it on the bedside table to make a ghost child happy.
Now the only thing you have left is the War Medal. Go down to the ground floor It's the first apartment on the left. Place the medal on the little table in the living room and the trophy will unlock.

Completed "The Art Collector" side quest.
This trophy is missable!
Complete the side quest Art Collector to receive this trophy. This is accomplished by obtaining all six of the missing paintings and piecing together a puzzle map they form inside the Art Gallery. You will come across the Art Gallery located in an alley between Brite St. and Laymond Ave. south of the Centennial Building on the map. Be a door leading to a deserted gallery here in this alley, near this intersection of the two roads.
After collecting all six paintings, return to the Art Gallery and place them on the table in the lower room to solve the puzzle. Arrange them to form different pictographs and once they are in the correct placement, use your UV light to reveal a map. Go to the location shown in Monroe Cemetery, near the St. Maria's Monastery. Continue through here and locate the crypt and descend using ladder. You will find a gate locked with a puzzle.
The key to the puzzle is selecting certain pictographs for the gate to open. The pictographs are the same as the ones completed when the painting was arranged correctly so refer to memory on this. Difficulty will affect which tiles have already been selected and/or marked. However on hard, you will need to remember each one.
Activate the following tiles to complete this puzzle.

Cutting Room Floor
Completed the "Cinéma Vérité" side quest.

Completed the "Cinéma Vérité" side quest.
This trophy is missable!
This is one of the longer and more atmospheric side quests. The location of this quest is the Movie Theater on Lamon Street, but if you are playing on normal or hard puzzle difficulty I'd recommend getting the Replacement Bulb before entering the cinema. You will find it in the hardware store east of St. Marias Monastery on the shelf behind the counter. If you are playing on easy you can find it in the projector room in the cinema.
Your first objective in the movie theater is to find the three Film Reels. Their location depends on the puzzle difficulty you are playing at.
Now you can watch the movies to figure out the code for the door in the projector room. You will find a '9' in The House on the Lake, a '24' in 'The Silent Children' and finally a '1' in The Secret of the Attic. So your code is 9241. Enter it and use all three film reels to get the Sliced Reel. Enter this movie and get your reward: Get the crank from the window sill in The House on the Lake, then proceed through the door at the end of the hallway and use the crank with the Jack-in-the-Box in The Silent Children. You will get a key. Search the room for a ladder leading to the attic. Open the chest with the key and pick up your reward. Backtrack your way to the cinema and the trophy will sound.

Turn Back Time
Completed "The Gramophone" side quest.

Completed "The Gramophone" side quest.
This trophy is missable!
A three-minute side quest! Whoohoo!
The hardest part of this side quest is to find the location. You are looking for a two-story apartment in Chastain Heights, just south of the movie theater. To enter the building you need a hook. Good news, there is one just a couple of steps away on the other side of the street.
Pull down the ladder, climb up and enter the building through the window. You will find a gramophone. It's pretty useless atm, you need a crank and a record first. Head up to the second floor. You will find the crank in the child's room and the record in the other room across the hall. Head back downstairs and play the record. A dead body will appear, together with some writing in blood. You are supposed to 'turn back time'. Play the record again, but this time turn the crank in the opposite direction. The bad guy will creep out of his picture frame. Use your lighter to burn the picture and to end the quest.

What's Your Sign?
Completed the "Shadow Play" side quest.

Completed the "Shadow Play" side quest.
This trophy is missable!
This is one of the longer and more complex quests. To start this quest you have to find an apartment in the north-western part of Chastain Heights. It's north of the movie theater, just before the transition to Pleasant River. Upstairs, you're going to find a table with a map and two candles. Light the candles (if you don't have one there is one in the kitchen downstairs). In the UV light from the candles you will see five different symbols on the map. Those are the locations of five fragments you have to find... and WOOHOO, conveniently enough one of them is right in this very room, so you might as well start right away:
Soul-Eye Fragment:
The Soul-Eye fragment is lying around on a nearby chair. Grab it, then use your UV flashlight to find a hidden symbol on the opposite wall of the very same apartment. There is a base nearby into which you can place your Soul-Eye fragment. Rotate the fragment with
until it matches the symbol on the wall, then use your normal flashlight to make it cast a shadow on the wall. Position yourself until the shadow matches the symbol on the wall. The fragment will vanish, leaving behind a token.
Four Fragment:
This fragment can be found north of the starting location of the quest. It's on the same street, just a bit to the north (already Pleasant River on the map). Look our for a cardboard box on the sidewalk which holds the Four-Fragment. Head into the small alleyway on the opposite side of the street where you can find the symbol which belongs to it. When you pass it for the first time Murphy will mutter something about another strange symbol, so unless you are playing on mute you can hardly miss it. Place the fragment and use your UV light again. You have to turn it so the 'fork' is facing to the right, then use your light, then turn it again until the 'fork' is facing to the left. Use your light again to complete the symbol and the fragment will turn into your second token.
Harmony Fragment(s):
The Harmony Fragment comes in two parts, but both can be found pretty close to each other. In Pleasant River, head over to the control tower near the King Harmony drawbridge. Climb up the ladder inside the tower to get one part of the fragment. It's near the lever which lowers the drawbridge. Head down again and open the door near the ladder to get to the area under the drawbridge. You can find the Harmony Symbol here. However, before you can use it you have to find the other part, so cross the room and use the other door. You will find the other part of the fragment outside. Return to the symbol. Murphy will place the first part of the fragment first. Use the shadow of this fragment to replace two missing lines, then place the second Harmony Fragment into the base. Add another missing line, then turn the fragment and use your flashlight again to complete the symbol. Again your fragments will vanish, leaving a token behind.
Enlightenment Fragment:
This fragment can be found in Pearl Creek in the construction site between Lansdale Avenue and Laymond Avenue. Its base can be found in the Pearl Creek underground entrance area (same spot where you found the bum in the Homeless quest). This is another easy one. Just place the fragment and rotate it until it matches the hidden shape, then use your flashlight to cast the shadow. Align shadow and symbol and the fragment will vanish. Grab the enlightenment token.
Healing Fragment:
This fragment can be found in Pearl Creek, too. Check the south-west corner of the intersection Laymond Avenue and Cook Street. Its base is on the same intersection, just across the street on the south-eastern corner. Again you need to use your flashlight twice to complete the shape. After you're done the fragment will vanish and you can grab your last token.
Solve the puzzle
Return to the apartment and place your five tokens on the corresponding symbols on the map. Once this is done the quest is over. However, all you'll get for your efforts is a lousy demon statue.
...........I'm kidding!
What you've got there is a pretty powerful and unbreakable melee weapon. Enjoy it.
You'll still need axes and hooks from time to time, but always remember where you dropped the demon.

Completed the "Dead Man's Hand" side quest.
This trophy is missable!
To start this quest head over to pleasant river. You will find an apartment south of Rice Street. It's near the spillway; follow the narrow path just east of it to find the entrance.
Inside, you will find a poker table with a 'dead man's hand' on it. Have a look into the adjacent room and you will find the guy who held this cards. Somebody put his hand into a jaw vise and ripped his heart out
. Your objective is to locate the human heart. Head down into the basement and search for a hole in the basement floor. Climb down and search for the heart. There are a couple of monsters down there but they are easy to avoid if you don't want to fight. I think on easy it will be enough to use your UV light to find the heart, while you'll need to follow the heartbeat on the harder puzzle difficulties. The nearer you get to the heart the louder the heartbeat will become. Once you've picked up the jar with the heart in it a lot of monsters will spawn. Quickly backtrack and give the poor dude his heart back. His corpse will dissolve and your trophy will pop.

Good Behaviour: You might accidentally kill the dolls instead of just incapacitating them. There is no shortage of this enemy in this game, so ten shouldn't pose a problem. After you've killed or incapacitated you tenth doll the trophy will unlock.

Escaped from 20 monsters.

Escaped from 20 monsters.
For most players this trophy will come naturally during the 'good karma' playthrough. Simply ignore the monsters while explore Silent Hill and sooner or later this trophy will unlock. This won't take long, the enemies in SH Downpour are a lazy bunch, they will give up pretty quickly.
You could also simply incapacitate an enemy and run away from it without killing it 20 different occasions. Best in the first few areas with screamers to take care of this so you won't have to return and worry on them later anyways. You may manage this playing normally on hard difficulty as you will need to be more careful and conserve any ammo or weapons you have for when you have no choice about fighting certain enemies.

Incapacitated 20 monsters without killing them.
Note: This has to be done in one single playthrough since incapacitations do not stack across multiple runs. Therefore, you could consider this trophy missable.
To acquire this trophy, you will need to defeat 20 enemies by incapacitating them without killing them. This is done by striking them with any object such as the monkey wrench or plank of wood until they fall to the ground. They may get back up, and so repeat again until they fall back to the ground. Do NOT strike them while they lay on the ground, or it will count as a kill if they stop moving and fade away. Testing firearms as of so far, only used melee weapons.
NOTE: If you incapacitate an enemy multiple times, it will fade away, but won't count as a kill. Keep in mind when going for this trophy or trying to complete game with no kills as you will still be capable of ridding your areas of enemy nuisances.

Note: This has to be done in one single playthrough since incapacitations do not stack across multiple runs. Therefore, you could consider this trophy missable.
