[top]Tips & Strategies

Overall the game is not hard. You should not have much trouble at all. Should you get stuck here are some pointers to help you out:

  • When you start a new episode and you are not familiar with the level, explore first and gather all of the clue bottles. (Exception being Episode 4, get these after you control sly.)
  • Get the clue bottles always with sly.
  • Clue Bottles can be found by hearing a tick-tock sound of a metal ball inside a glass bottle.
  • The closer you get to the clue bottle the louder the sound it makes.
  • Always check up and below for cluebottles, some are really high or deep down to find.
  • Always listen for the clue bottle while searching, they are easier to pin point this way.
  • Before taking a rare treasure, make sure you know how to run back to the safe house, most are booby trapped and will explode if you do not get back to the safe house on time.
  • Only enemies with a glowing purse are worth pickpocketing. The last steal will always give you a common loot.
  • Destroying object can sometimes yield a lot of coins and even health items, be sure to pick em all up.
  • You should get enough coins to buy all of the gadgets. Just make sure to get every rare treasure and pickpocket when you get the chance.
  • If you keep failing a certain part keep going and practice till you get the hang of it and can get past it.
  • Enemies always have the exact same circle in front of them in which they will see you and attack you, so learn the radius of the flash light.
  • If you have all of the clue bottles and are not sure where the safe is, it will show up in your Binocucom once you got past it.

[top]Roadmap

To get all of the trophies you only need 1 playthrough. The game is pretty easy overall, and if needed you can even go back to a previous episode to collect clue bottles, defeat enemies, get rare treasures or do some other random things that have zero purpose.

For the trophies you only need to collect 30 clue bottles, out of the total 240. There are 30 in each episode and once all gathered, you can open the vault for a new gadget. As an additional bonus, when gathering clue bottles you will also learn the level you are in, and all the ins and outs of the level. Before you take on any missions. This can help greatly reduce annoyance from running around clueless and help out on Jobs when you know the area and the route a lot better. The levels can be quite complex at times (such as Episode 3, 4, 5 and 8 in particular, I still get lost in the prison and the area around the Re-Education Tower ><).

Episode 1:
For episode 1 when you get in control of Sly it is the best to scout around, learn the level and get all of the clue bottles to get those trophies out of the way.

Do not forget to pickpocket guards for their loot. After a few jobs the more powerful guards will start patrolling, they hold even more and greater common loot to sell on ThiefNet. You should have no problem getting to 1,500 coins during the episode. With the appearance of 3 rare treasures. Make sure to buy also Fists of Flame (400 coins) and the Trigger Bomb (200 coins) for 2 additional trophies when done. With all of the clue bottles and coin trophies out of the way you will have only story trophies and gadgets from ThiefNet trophies left.

Episode 2 and Onwards:
From this point out it gets harder and harder.

If you want you can collect the clue bottles and learn the levels. But all that is required is to purchase the needed gadgets from ThiefNet and do all of the jobs for each and every episode. You might want to go hunt for the rare treasures though, they yield a lot of coins (between 400 and 800, getting higher in each following episode).

Episode 8 Aftermath:
Once you finish the final boss and follow a portion of the story after it the last trophy should come up and giving you the platinum. You can either turn off the game or finish the story by playing 5 minutes longer and watch the end movie and credits with additional scenes.

Soda Popped
Collect 30 Clue bottles

Each Episode in the game has 30 Clue Bottles, making it a total of 240. Only 30 have to be found for this trophy. You should have no trouble getting this trophy at all as long you get them all in the first chapter. Where they are the easiest to get.

Bottles can be recognized by the green bouncing wine bottles. When you get close to one you can hear the clinking. The sound is similar to that of clock where you can hear the ping of a metal ball inside the bottle.

When you have found all 30 in a single episode you can open the vault of that level, giving you a nice new little gadget for you to use. For this trophy it does matter if it is all in 1 level or not. So you can not just grab 5 bottles each in 6 episodes so to speak. You only need to gather 30 in a single chapter but you do get some nice gadgets from the vault though if you go for several chapters.
