[top]Tips & Strategies

  • Pick up and play: Look around the environment for things to pick up and throw, or maybe use as weapons. Throwable things like cow skulls, flower pots, or bowling balls will normally kill standard enemies, even the fat ones. Weapons like brooms or hammers are very powerful, so keep an eye out for them.
  • Mmmm, donuts: Look for food hanging around the environment. Some food will fall from trees, but some will be laying around.
  • Overkill: Eating food with full health will bring you into overheal, which adds another health bar layer on top of your current one.
  • Short and Sweet: The game itself is only about half-an-hour to 40 minutes long, so don't be scared off by the fact you have to play from stage 1.
  • What're friends for?: Residents of Springfield like Milhouse or Nelson will often walk through levels bearing weapons/food the Simpsons can use.
  • You don't make friends with salad: Hot dogs, donuts, pies, and other such junk foods often give more health than apples or oranges.
  • What do we have here?: In Stage 1, get a friend's help to flip over the cop car to find lots of food underneath.

Mr. Sparkle
From stage 1, make it to the stage 3 bosses in Survival Mode with the Japanese ROM.

Oh obscure references you! At least this is the Japan ROM, so it's kind of easier.
In a nutshell, Survival mode is one shot. You die, it's over. Thankfully, there is an Easy setting, which will help. Just make it to the bosses of stage 3 to pop this one. The Wrestler is easy with the Specials, but the Krusty Balloon moving around can be harder. Just keep an eye out for weapons and this one won't be terribly hard.

[top]
Easier than Armwrestling
Defeat the Wrestler without any player dying.

The Wrestler is the "boss" for Stage 1: Downtown Springfield. The easiest strategy is to go solo for this, as he'll take less hits to defeat, and as Bart or Marge for their Special range. Go up to him, press and together for you special, which will knock him down. Run away a bit, then hit him again. If done right, he won't have a chance to get up, and you'll be done with him in no time.

Falling for Smithers
Playing from stage 1, fall through the deck after Smithers.

This trophy is story-related, therefore it cannot be missed, but you must play from stage 1!
This trophy will pop after you defeat the Krusty balloon boss at the end of Stage 2: Krustyland. This boss likes to slam down on the the ground and clap its hands for attacks, so keep your distance, and use Specials and Team Attacks to bring him down. When he's dead, the ground will explode out from underneath you, and Smithers will fall too. The trophy will follow you down.

[top]
It Tastes Like Burning
Hurt Smithers with one of his own bombs.

In Stage 8: Nuclear Power Plant, the first boss you face is none other than Waylon Smithers. He will toss out bombs as attacks. Sometimes he'll drop blue bombs. These are the bombs to pick up. Pick one up and throw it at him. If it connects with him, you've earned a trophy.

[top]
Dysfunctional Family
Play in a 4-player match with three other people.

Simple enough. Just join/play in/have a match with four players at some point. You can do this with 4 controllers or online. If you choose the latter, and you're having trouble finding some folks to play with, use this: The Official The Simpsons Arcade Game Boosting Thread

[top]
Bongo's Angst
Playing from stage 1, get Bongo to appear in 4 different levels.

Throughout the game, there will be certain trees you can hit that will drop fruit. Keep hitting them and soon Bongo will appear with a sign saying, "All gone. Beat it!". There are trees in stages 1,2,5, and 7.
Stage 1: Next to the fire department
Stage 2: After the tea cup ride. OF DOOM.
Stage 5: By a group of caves.
Stage 7: There are two, each on the side of the ninja stage. You only need him to appear once.

[top]
Battling Seizure Robots
Playing from stage 1, defeat the battling robot.

This trophy is story-related, therefore it cannot be missed, but you must play from stage 1!
In the middle of Stage 7: Channel 6, you will face a robot, or two if you have some friends. They'll swat at you and fire off lights to distract you, but just keep smacking them around and they'll die soon enough.

[top]
Helper Monkey
While performing a Team Attack, damage 25 enemies.

To perform a team attack, stand next to another player. Neither of you will move/attack or anything. You'll then see your players get together for a Team Attack.
  • Homer with Bart/Lisa: Homer will place the child on his shoulder, and the two will attack as one.
  • Marge with Bart/Lisa: Marge will throw the chosen kid across the screen, when they'll rebound off the sides of the screen a few times.
  • Bart and Lisa: Bart and Lisa will join hands and can run around the area, hurting any foes they touch.
  • Marge and Homer: Marge and Homer roll around as a ball for some reason, damaging any enemy they touch.
This isn't at one time luckily, just build up an overall total of 25 damaged enemies through Team Attacks and ping, trophy.

Best Score Ever
Earn 250 points (US) or 25,000 points (Japan) in a game.

I suggest doing this in the Japan ROM, as there are a LOT more ways to earn points. The US ROM is pretty much just enemy killing for points, but the Japan ROM has more bonuses for points and a Vitality Bonus at the end. I suggest doing this alone, because other players may steal your points/kills. Even so, I commonly got around 70,000 to 80,000 points in 4-player matches in the Japan ROM. Reach 25,000 points and the trophy will pop.

Release the Hounds
Complete the game in 30 minutes or less.

To beat the game in less than 30 mins, go as one-player, as there are less enemies, and bosses take less hits to kill. Also play on Easy, so you deal more damage and have more lives. Choose the character you feel you are most comfortable with, and make sure to waste no time getting to the next area. Also make good use of Special Attacks to easily kill enemies. You can turn the timer on in Settings via the Main Menu to check out your time so far. Beat the game in 30 mins or less for the trophy.

[top]
Like Taking Candy from a Baby
Complete the game four times, once with each character.

There are four characters playable in the game, four times to beat it. Thankfully the game is only 40 minutes long, so this shouldn't be too hard.
  • Bart: Bart wields a skateboard, and is a very melee-based character, and one of the best in my opinion.
  • Lisa: Lisa, who uses a jump rope, is somewhat difficult. Her special is whipping the jump rope around, but sometimes she'll get caught up in her jump rope.
  • Homer: Homer is the most closest-range character, wielding no weapons, just his fists.
  • Marge: Using a vacuum cleaner, Marge has a considerable range and power, and for whatever reason, her special seems to register the most.
To keep track of who you have left to beat with, go to the Cool Stuff section of the Main Menu, and go over non-unlocked items to see their criteria. Unlock all Cool Stuff for the trophy ping.

[top]
"Excellent"
Complete the game on Expert difficulty in individual Quarters mode.

Expert difficulty on Individual Quarters mode gives you 3 lives and 10 continues, a total of 30 lives. Each player gets 30 lives, so if you prefer to play with 4-players then by all means. Just keep in mind enemies and bosses take less damage to destroy in single-player. Review the Tips and Strategies section for tips. Remember to use them Specials and Team Attacks, and use the Japan ROM, as there are more throwable objects to use.
If you decide to go it with friends, and need some bodyguards, check out The Official The Simpsons Arcade Game Boosting Thread
