[top]Tips & Strategies

Collecting everything:
Explore everywhere! There are always junctions where one path will take you on towards the end of the level, while another may appear to backtrack. Don't dismiss the side paths as you'll miss out on blooming/musicians/bonus flowers/crystals.
Take note of 'blocked' pathways and what you need to unblock them. See a smog-filled passage? Take a note of it and come back when you've got a lantern (this game loves hiding stuff in small smog-filled caves/passages). See a platform that looks like it will sink with a bit of weight on it? Find some heavy fruit and bring it back to the platform.
Some walls explode! They're different in color and texture to normal walls. Always explode them; some have things hidden under them, some are just blocking new passages or rooms.

Exploration hub:
This consists of three rooms: the hub room you start in; a costume and bonus room that you can access from the top left of the room you start in; and a second hub room that you access from the first room via a portal above the central pillar. The first exploration hub room contains levels 1-9. The costume room is accessible at any point, but the bonus levels can only be entered when you've completed the 15 main levels - you don't have to get everything on these levels, just finish them. The second exploration hub room will only be opened when you've completed levels 1-9, and contains levels 10-15. You can get back to the first room via the portal above the central pillar.

Hazards:
There are various hazards that you will come across; none of them will do you any damage, but they can each be a major inconvenience!
Bombs: these will simply blow you around the screen with the force of their explosion. When you drop them they enter timer mode before exploding.
Amoebas: these will eat you and spit you out again, causing you to drop everything you're carrying. They can usually be easily avoided by using an alternate path.
Glowing bubbles: these can be either stationary in mid-air, or float out of bubble fountains attached to walls/floor/ceiling. If you touch them you will lose all your pollen, and you'll drop everything you're carrying. Some things you carry are allowed to touch the bubbles with no consequences as long as you yourself don't touch the bubble (e.g. lantern fruit), while others can't touch the bubbles (e.g. bombs will explode on contact with a bubble).

Navigation:
At the bottom left of the screen are a series of blobs and some small spirals, which can be dark or lit. The blobs represent checkpoints (referred to in this guide as CP1, CP2 etc.), while the spirals represent portals. Some levels have more than one portal, but all have a final portal. In the game, the checkpoints look like little streetlamps that light up as you pass them, while the portals appear when you appraoch them and look like white spirals. You can warp to your most recently visited checkpoint by holding . This is not necessarily the furthest checkpoint you've reached - if you backtrack you may pass a previous checkpoint.

Maximizing your fun
This isn't a challenging game. If you play nothing but FPS don't bother with this! However, if you like quiet, well-thought-out games that reward exploration and some mild puzzle-solving then this is a great game. There's loads of spoilers in the guide for how to find absolutely everything you need, but I urge you to try the game without using them. The game isn't difficult, and if you spend all your time reading this text you won't have a chance to appreciate the thrill of exploration and finding things for yourself. (seriously, if you explore everywhere there's maybe 3 crystals maximum that you'll need any help/guidance with at all).

[top]Roadmap

1 Play level 1 (Welcome To The Undergarden) with a second controller, being sure to grab 3 musicians at some point and trying to get 100% bloom, all musicians, all bonus flowers and the crystal. Near the end bomb both player two and a musician. This should get you Sowing the Seeds of Love, Turn That Thing Off, Listen to the Flower People, and Someone Set Us Up the Bomb.
2 Play levels 2-5, trying to get 100% bloom, all musicians, all bonus flowers and the crystals. You'll get Blown Away while doing this.
3 Put on the red devil horns and play level 6 (Lights in the Dark) trying to get everything as normal, but when you reach CP3 be sure to do what is needed for The Devil Wears Produce while you're here.
4 Play levels 7-9 trying to grab everything, and you should get Let's Clear the Air.
5 Play levels 10-12 trying to grab everything, AND trying to hit every pollen sack which will net you Time to Hit the Sack.
6 Play levels 13-15 trying to grab everything, and if you're successful these three trophies will pop before you finish level 15 (Hold on Tight); Color Your World, Rainbow Collection and I Wanna Be a Rock Star.
7 Repeat 13-15 as fast as possible, while they're still fresh in your mind, and get Happy Birthday To Me.
8 Repeat the above levels as necessary to get all the trophies mentioned so far (only A Very Good Year should be left).
9 Play the two bonus levels and grab the crystals on them to get A Very Good Year.
10 Kick back and celebrate your success.

[top]Trophies

[top]
Sowing the seeds of love
Grow your first fruit tree

You'll get this within the first few seconds on the first level. Go right from the start point, just past where you learn to charge through the rocks. Simply pollinate all the plants nearby, including those on the ceiling, and the trophy will pop. It even gives you a pointer on where the tree is and how to make it grow. It couldn't be simpler.

[top]
Color your world
Grow all the flowers on every level

Just fly past unbloomed plants while you have pollen and watch them blossom (the round wheel at the bottom center of the screen indicates your pollen supply). You can check your progress on this during a level. See the flowers and dots at the bottom right of the game screen? When the right-most flower turns green you've pollinated everything on the level. Simply don't leave the level until you've turned that last flower green. You can also check your progress from the level hub by floating near the level portal and it will tell you what percentage of the level you've successfully bloomed. The trophy will pop after you bloom the last plant on Level 15: Hold On Tight. You do not need to bloom the two bonus levels for the trophy.

Make sure you explore everywhere, and always have some pollen available - there are plenty of sacks around so that shouldn't be a problem. You can always backtrack if you reach the end of the level and haven't got 100% yet. Things you should check are whether you've pollinated all the branches on a tree (it's easy to miss one, particularly when the tree is a similar color to the background), and the long dangling plants from the ceiling that have multiple berries on a solid stem (again easy to miss the top or bottom couple if the background is dark).

[top]
Rainbow collection
Collect all the bonus flowers in the game

The bonus flowers look like tiny pink and blue Celtic triangles. When you fly over/into them they turn all pink, grow larger and you'll hear a chime. Below I will list the number of them in each level, and their locations in a spoiler. You can't check on your progress during a level, but you can check in the level hub by flying near the level portal and pressing This trophy should pop when you hit the last bonus flower in level 15: Hold On Tight. You do not need to collect the bonus flowers in the two bonus levels for this trophy.

I wanna be a rock star
Pick up every musician in the game at least once

Each level has several musicians (numbers below, with spoilers for locations). Whenever you find one simply pick him up with and drag him a few inches. They're not too hard to find as you can hear them playing when you're nearby. I suggest that whenever you find one you drag him a bit back the way you came from; this avoids dropping him into a new area then finding him again and not realizing he's one you already grabbed, which will mess up your counting. If you get every one in the game, this will pop when you grab the last one on Level 15: Hold On Tight. You do not need to grab the musicians in the two bonus levels for the trophy. You can't monitor this during a level, but when you're in the level hub, fly near the portal and press . You can see a pair of musical notes - if these are lit/bright you have grabbed all the musicians on that level, if it's still dark you've missed at least one and will need to repeat the level.

Blown away
Grow 50% of plants in "Wind Surfing", "Kaboom!", "Blown Away" and "Handle With Care"

Easy enough as you need to grow everything on every level for Color Your World anyway. If you're getting everything first time round, this should pop at the end of Kabloom without you even needing to unlock Blown Away and Handle With Care.

[top]
Turn that thing off
Drop a bomb on a musician

If you want to get this out the way early on, you can get it at the end of Level 1: Welcome To The Undergarden. If you didn't grab it then and are looking for a way to get it without going very far, you can get it very near the start of Level 3: Kabloom.

Level 1: Welcome To The Undergarden
Right at the end of the level you'll find an area with three bridges and a bomb plant in the middle. On the far left, behind a stack of rocks, is a musician. Grab a bomb and drop it on him; the trophy will pop when it explodes beside him (though he'll carry on playing as if nothing happened!).

Level 3: Kabloom
Follow the path from the start of the level and you'll find a bomb plant just before the second checkpoint. Right next to the bomb plant is a musician just begging to get exploded.

[top]
Listen to the flower people
Re-bloom some flowers carrying 3 musicians at once

You can get this out of the way on the first level. There are probably loads of places later on to get it, but why wait when it takes a few seconds and then you can cross it off the list and forget about it? After exiting the first portal you can find a musician on the right. When you've opened the door in the ceiling, grab him and take him up to the second checkpoint, where you'll find a second musician. Open the gates using the floating and heavy fruits, then grab both musicians and take them through to find a third waiting for you. Bloom some nearby flowers, then grab all three at once and re-bloom the flowers (re-blooming is when the music makes them change color and pulse a bit). Ding, you have another trophy. (If you want more detailed descriptions of the musician locations, check the level guide for I Wanna Be A Rock Star).

[top]
Time to hit the sack
Hit every pollen sack in "Batteries Not Included", "Zap!" and "Into the Machine"

Just bump all the pollen sacks on levels 10, 11 and 12. Sounds simple, but some of them are tucked away off the main path, so make sure you explore everywhere you can. This can be done on the same run-through as getting the crystal, special flowers, musicians and blooming everything, but it's quite easy to lose count of how many sacks you've hit so you may need to take another crack at it. Sadly there's no way at all of tracking your progress on this other than knowing you've done it when the trophy pops, which will happen when you hit the last sack on Level 12: Into The Machine. Hit every sack you see and you might get it first try. If you don't, I've listed the number of sacks and their locations below to make life a little easier.

Level 10: Batteries Not Included; 18 pollen sacks to find and bump

Level 11: Zap!; 23 pollen sacks

Level 12: Into The Machine; 21 pollen sacks

Happy birthday to me
Complete "Grab Hold", "Watch Out, They Spit", and "Hold on Tight" in under 20 minutes

You need to have a combined time over these three levels of less than 20min, you won't get it by just doing each of the level individually in less than 20min. Basically a speed run through these three levels, but they don't need to be done back-to-back, though all in one session is advised. There is no way at all to track your time for each level so you might want to find a stopwatch!

You will want to play through each level at least once to collect everything and familiarize yourself with the main path before you attempt this. You can have as many tries as you want at each level to whittle the time down, but realistically you'll only need one or two tries to get this. Reasonable times to aim for (yes, you can beat these without a problem, but this is just a suggestion) are 4.50 for Grab Hold, 7.50 for Watch Out, and 7.20 for Hold On Tight. These times gives you a bit of wiggle room if you mess something up.

General tips: Know what route you're taking! Don't get stuck walking on the floor as this is slow; make sure you're always floating. Use to boost when you're in open spaces, but not in narrow tunnels. Have patience with the fruit shooters; it's better to spend an extra couple of seconds making sure the shot is properly lined up than to rush it and have to repeat the shot three or four times. Handle plants will grow without pollen. Specific tips for each level are given below; these are in sequence as you progress through the level.

Someone set us up the bomb
Drop a bomb on the second player in a co-op game

You'll need a second controller for this, although you don't need a second person! Make sure you load the second player while you're still in the hub - you can't add the player part-way through a level (though they can drop out). Thankfully the second player will warp to the first whenever they get too far apart, so you can basically play with one controller and ignore the other player until you're in a spot with a bomb plant. You can get this out of the way on your first play-through of the Level 1: Welcome To The Undergarden, but the constant warping will often bump you when the player reappears (although there's no danger in this, it's just a tad annoying). If you prefer, or if you forget, you can get it near the start of Level 3: Kabloom, but here there are a few glowing bubbles that the second player can bump you into when they warp in - no real danger but you'll lose your pollen and need to find another sack to bloom the bomb plant.

Level 1: Welcome To The Undergarden
Right at the end of the level you'll find an area with three bridges and a bomb plant in the middle. Grab a bomb and drop it on player 2; the trophy will pop when it explodes beside him.

Level 3: Kabloom
Follow the path from the start of the level and you'll find a bomb plant just before the second checkpoint. Grab a bomb and drop it on player 2

[top]
Let's clear the air
Clear most of the smog in the smoggy levels

Smog appears as a bluish-grey haze and you need a lantern to clear it. It starts appearing in levels after Level 6: Lights In The Dark. 'Most' is a very ambiguous description, but if you are hunting for all crystals, musicians and special flowers, you will end up essentially clearing all the smog out of each level. If you're doing this, the trophy will pop shortly after the start of Level 9: Very Territorial. If you're not exploring everywhere and clearing each level completely (why not?) then there's plenty of patches of smog in later levels too and either way you'll get this trophy through natural game progression.

[top]
The devil wears produce
Hold a musician, heavy fruit, lantern fruit, and explosive fruit while wearing red horns

As you progress you'll unlock various costumes and accessories - these are in the room at the top left of the first exploration hub area, in a room of their own with two bonus levels. One costume option at the bottom right is a pair of red curly devil horns (unlocks after either level 2 or level 3). Put these on by flying through them - make sure you don't accidentally replace them with any of the other antennae options as you leave the room.

Now start Level 6: Lights In The Dark while wearing the horns, and follow the main path to checkpoint 3. At this point use the heavy fruit to drop the levers and float down to break the partially broken rock. Float back up and collect a heavy fruit and a lantern fruit and keep holding (If you let go of the lantern will go out, and holding an unlit lantern doesn't count for the trophy). Swim to the next smoggy cavern and clear it out, continually holding . When it's clear, you'll see a bomb plant in the middle, which you can grab. Now keep holding (am I stressing this enough yet?) and float down to the bottom where there's a musician. Grab him too, and the trophy will pop after a second or two.

You really, REALLY need to hold the whole time, or you'll never get it - the lantern goes out when dropped and the bomb enters timer mode when released, so the only way of getting both at once is by never letting go of .

[top]
A very good year
Collect 17 crystals in the game

Each level contains a crystal. Some of these are in plain sight, like the one in Level 1: Welcome To The Undergarden. Some are more hidden or require some puzzle-solving or back-tracking half-way through a level with a specific item. All you have to do to 'collect' a crystal is fly into it; the crystal should start glowing and you'll hear a musical chime of a few notes. From the hub, you can check if you've got the crystal for a level by flying close to the portal and pressing . In the pop-up, you will see a crystal symbol in the lower left - if it is bright/lit, you've found the crystal for that level, if it's dark you haven't found it yet. You need the two crystals from the bonus levels (found in the costume room to the top left of the first exploration hub area), but the trophy will pop when you get the last crystal without you having to finish that level.

I suggest that you complete the normal levels first, then bonus level The Sum Of All Things, and finally the bonus level The Horn of Plenty. The crystal for The Sum is about 80% of the way through the level, whereas for The Horn it's only about 25% of the way through, so if you're planning to just quit after the trophy pops rather than finishing all the levels, this way round saves you a little time.

If you're having trouble with a particularly well-hidden crystal, the locations are in spoilers below.
