[top]Tips & Strategies

  • You are allowed to save at any time and as often as you want - make use of this especially when going for those . However, don't use quick load if you caused an alarm, used a medi pack or killed more than 3 enemies in one level. Quick load might not reset these stats, so Stealth Opperative, Passive Aggression and Immune might not unlock. I read that it does work if you reload your quick save by pressing and choosing 'Load Game'... but I wouldn't count on it. Better don't risk it and load the last auto save or a manual save you created.
  • Splinter Cell is all about stealth. While it is theoretically possible to run through the game with guns blazing, you will have a hard time with that style of playing and it will spoil the whole concept of the game. Learn your stealth techniques, stay in the shadows as much as possible and experience the thrilling fun of beating levels without even being noticed once. Playing the game how it's meant to be played is so much more fun - and it's even easier once you know what you are doing.
  • Sticky Cams can be used to knock out enemies; just fire them at their heads (aim a little higher though, as secondary shots drop considerably when fired) This is useful, as you are given so many throughout the game which are essentially useless for their actual purpose. (Thanks to Hysteria98 for the tip)
  • You can look through doors with your thermal vision (activate it with ). This makes the optic cable obsolete. (Thanks to Hysteria98 for the tip)
  • There is a little exploit which allows you to farm a number of trophies. Have a look at the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploit section below for details.

Here is an awesome video walkthrough for the whole game by CaRC1n0g3n, beating the game on hard without raising a single alarm and without taking damage. I also included videos for every single level in the respective trophy descriptions.

Splinter Cell on Hard - No Damage/No Alarms

[top]Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits

There is a nice and easy way to farm a number of trophies in this game. It works for Field Agent, Cyber Warfare, Adrenaline Rush, Pinpoint Specialist, Fatal Embrace, Surgical Strike, Afterwind, Nightlife, Privacy Matters, Friendly Chats and Data Hacker.
Here is how it works: Once you have beaten a level, chapter select becomes available for it. Press , go to 'load game', then choose the right tab to select a chapter. Load a chapter, farm what you need to farm, then save the game (a 'real' save, quick save won't work). Now use chapter select again to restart the mission. Farm your headshots/light sources/interrogations/whatever again, then save the game. Again: do not use quick save but a real save slot, you can use the same slot each time. Rinse and repeat until you got the trophy you were going for.

Here is a practical example to make this more intelligible: Load Georgian Defense Ministry via chapter select. Walk over to the stovepipe to start rappelling down the building. Jump through the window and wait for the guard to enter the room. Get a head shot for one more kill towards Pinpoint Specialist, destroy the camera for Pricacy Matters and collect the data stick from the computer for Data Hacker. In the hall you can get two more headshots. First shoot the patrolling guard, the other one who is standing next to the alarm button will go over to the body to examine it. Step out into the light so he will spot you, then shoot him before he can activate the alarm. This brings you one step closer to Adrenaline Rush. Shoot out all the lights for Nightlife. Then hack two other computers in the room down the hall. On your way down to the garage there are two more cameras and a couple of light sources. Two more cameras can be found in the garage. Finally, interrogate the driver for Friendly Chats, then save the game (don't use quick save) and restart the chapter via chapter select for a fresh round of farming. After four rounds you will obtain Friendly Chats, so you can skip the last part from that point on.

I will point out suitable chapters to farm the other trophies in their respective descriptions.

Thanks to RedeyeCult for the tip.

[top]Roadmap

Here is what I consider to be the best and most enjoyable way to :plat: Echelon Elite:

First Playthrough: Beat the game on hard difficulty
You may think it's weird to play you first playthrough on hard, but I gave this some serious thought and I think it is better this way. The reason for this is Urban Legend, which is imo the hardest and most annoying trophy in the game. To obtain it, you will need to know the game AND you'll want to play on normal mode so you won't die too easily. So on your first playthrough on hard you can die as often as you want. Try to get all the golden trophies out of the way. Immune is not hard at all, you just need to save often. The same counts for Stealth Operative (just make sure to take the quick load issue into account). The only real problem will be Passive Aggression, the second hardest trophy of this game. However, if you are using this guide you should be able to get it on your first run. Of course you will also get all the story related trophies in this playthrough.

Second Playthrough: Beat the game on normal difficulty and become an urban legend
You should know the game by now, which should make Urban Legend a tad easier. Stick to the tips in this guide and you should get it without too much trouble. If you haven't gotten them by now, you will most likely get Cyber Warfare, Friendly Chats and Data hacker in this playthrough. Every other trophy you might get is welcome, but don't bother to go for them, grinding them via mission select is a much easier and faster way then trying to get them during your natural progression in the game. After your second playthrough you will also get your trophy for beating the game on normal.

Clean up via Mission select
Just check which trophies you still got left. Trophies like Pinpoint Specialist, Fatal Embrace, Surgical Strike, Afterwinds come to mind... they all can be easily farmed. Check the respective trophy descriptions for details. After that: *ding* :plat:

[top]Trophies

[top]
Echelon Elite
Unlock all trophies.

Unlock all other trophies and *ding* - another :plat: in the book.

[top]
Stealth Operative
Complete all missions without raising an alarm even once.

This trophy might glitch on you!
If you use quick load to reload your game after you rouse an alarm the game might not reset the alarm counter! So if you are lucky you might get the trophy when you use quick load after you rouse an alarm, a lot of people have been reporting issues with it though. I've been told that it does work when you reload your quick save using Load Game, but I have yet to validate that, so always reload the last autosave or a manual save you created so you'll be on the safe side.

However, the best way to avoid any issues with this trophy is not to raise alarms. When enemies detect you and the music changes this does NOT count as an alarm. You know that you screwed up when you hear the alarm siren. Reload your game and try again. Just remember that using quick load might spoil the trophy. You'll want to hide every body you knocked out/killed. Often it is not enough to hide them in the shadows. You have to make sure that the bodies are not in the way of patrolling guards. If you are having issues beating a certain level without raising an alarm refer to the respective video walkthrough in this guide.

Please PM me or post in the discussion tab if you have further info on this trophy and the quick load issue.

[top]
Passive Aggression
Complete the game without having more than 3 fatal casualties per level.

This trophy might glitch on you!
If you use quick load to reload your game after you killed an enemy the game might not reset your kill counter! So if you killed one enemy and used quick load right after this, your kill count for that level might still be 1, and not 0. I've been told that it does work when you reload your quick save using Load Game, but I have yet to validate that, so if you have killed more enemies than necessary in one level and you want to reload your game always reload the last autosave or a manual save you created so you'll be on the safe side.

There are detailed video walkthroughs for every single level in this guide, showing you how to beat the game on hard without killing more enemies than necessary. If you've ever recorded, edited and rendered a gameplay video yourself you will know that this takes some time and work. If you have not trust me - it does . So please be patient, I'll try to upload about one video a day from now on.

[top]
Echelon Mercenary
Complete the game in Hard difficulty.

Difficulty trophies do NOT stack, so you won't get Echelon Recruit together with this. You need two separate playthroughs to unlock the two difficulty trophies.

[top]
Immune
Complete the game without using a single medikit.

This trophy might glitch on you!
If you use quick load to reload your game after you used a medikit the game will not reset the counter! I've been told that it does work when you reload your quick save using Load Game, but I have yet to validate that, so don't use quick load if you should have used a medikit (for what reason whatsoever) but be sure to reload an auto save or a manual save.

Apart from that, this is not as hard as it may sound. For one thing, you are still allowed to save as often as you want, so just load your last save game if you should lose a large amount of health. Moreover, you'll get back full health at the end of a mission, so all you have to worry about is to finish each mission without using a health pack. I recommend going for this one on your second playthrough, together with Stealth Operative, Passive Aggression and Echelon Mercenary.

[top]
Echelon Recruit
Complete the game in Normal difficulty.

Difficulty trophies do NOT stack, so you won't get this trophy together with Echelon Mercenary if you beat the game on hard. You need a separate playthrough on Nomal to unlock it.

[top]
Enforcement
Complete the Police Station Mission.

This trophy is story related and can't be missed.
However, in order to obtain Stealth Operative, Passive Aggression and Immune, you'll need a good strategy for every level. I have compiled a video for you, showing you one possible way to beat this level without using a medikit and firing one single shot. I'm afraid I did get spotted once, but no alarm was raised so that should be okay . If you copy that strategy you will also get Peace Stalker.

I just realized I actually had 4 kills in this level. This is because the n00bish guard on 4:38 in the first video commits suicide by running past the wall-mine. The problem was that the first guard I knocked out managed to use his radio before I got him down. This was not supposed to happen. If you are doing it right, you can get him out of the way and wait for the second guard, who will also come to examine this room. Knock him down just like the first. Then you will only have the two guards in front of the elevator left. Get a can out of the room to the left and throw it down the hallway. One of the guards will come to investigate the disturbance. Take him out with a Sticky Shocker. The other guard will come over to see what happened to his partner. Take him out as well (use another Sticky Shocker, fire a Sticky Camera at his head, or sneak up on him and knock him out. However, I still got Passive Aggression in this playthrough, so it seems the suicide guard didn't count.

[top]
Urban Legend
Complete the game without dying more than 5 times.

This trophy is NOT glitched, it's just freaking hard. The problem is that the game will save your deaths separately, so you can reload all you want: If you are dead, you are dead. It will count for this playthrough even if you restart the whole level. The trick is to reload your game before you die. This is easier said than done. If you get spotted and enemies start opening fire at you, jump at the button and reload your game. Be careful when using quick load, you might still die while the quick load operation is in progress. If you miss a jump do the same: try to press before you break your neck and reload your game.

If you really wanna play it safe I recommend backing up your save data to an USB flash drive on a regular basis. If you die delete your save game and copy the save back from your USB device. Just don't start doing this when you already died 3 or 4 times, as the game will get harder and harder towards the end.

[top]
Field Agent
Pick lock on 25 doors.

There are dozens of locked doors throughout the game. To pick a lock, open your quick inventory with and select the lock pick. Press in front of the door, use the left stick to find out in which direction the lock will give way, then pick the lock by pressing in that direction repeatedly.

[top]
Cyber Warfare
Collect data stick from 47 computer terminals.

There are less than 47 computer terminals with data sticks in the game, I think the total number is 33. The good news is that the sticks you collected will carry over to your next playthrough. So if you only collected 25 data sticks from computer terminals on your first playthrough, the trophy will unlock after you collected your 22nd data stick from a terminal on your second run. Moreover, you can easily farm data sticks using the method described in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section of this guide. Georgian Defense Ministry is the best level to do so.

Check Data Hacker for a complete (?) list of all data sticks in the game. I highlighted terminals in blue.

[top]
Adrenaline Rush
Put down 10 enemies once they noticed you, before they raise the alarm.

Not every enemy who will spot you will try to raise an alarm. Actually there are missions like the GFO Oil Rig mission or Kalinatek where there is no alarm at all. The guys you wanna take out for this mission are those who will rather run to the nearest alarm button than attacking you. If you find it difficult to get this during natural progression of the game you can farm is with the method described in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section of this guide.

[top]
Pinpoint Specialist
Get 25 headshots.

Press to equip your weapon, aim for the head and shoot with Kill 25 enemies using this method and the trophy will be yours. You can also farm this trophy with the method explained in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section of this guide.

[top]
Fatal Embrace
Perform 100 captures.

Sneak up on an enemy, once you are near enough you'll be able to capture the poor bloke with . Do this 100 times and the trophy will be yours. This number stacks across multiple playthroughs. You can also farm captures using the method describes in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section of this guide.

[top]
Surgical Strike
Take out 13 opponents by jumping from above them.

You can farm this one like most of the other trophies of this kind with the method described in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section of this guide. However, there is a neat way to farm this without having to reload at all. In the Chinese Embassy mission, after the first two thugs you come across, there will be a building you can climb up to the second floor. There will be another two guys down on the ground floor, one of them will be patrolling the alley, and the other will stay where he is. Jump down on the second one while the other one is away, drag him into the light and climb back up again. The patrolling guard will come back and wake his partner up. Rinse and repeat until the trophy pops. Thanks to AdvancedHybrid for pointing this out to me.
Of course I made a video for you to make your gaming life easier. It's in the spoiler box, as usual:

Afterwinds
Kill 11 enemies with grenades.

This trophy is a bit of a grind. Fortunately, you can use the way described in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section of this guide to get this as quickly as possible. Use a level where you can blow up as many guards as possible at one time. You can also pile up unconscious guards to take out three or more with one grenade.

Trout2327 found a good spot for this:

Once they die from the explosion, save your game and load that mission back up. Assuming you didn't kill anybody with grenades through your playthroughs, you will only have to do this 6 times.

[top]
Nightlife
Destroy 25 light Sources.

You can shoot out most light sources with your gun. Simply press , aim at the light source and shoot it with . Doing this will make your stealth-life much easier, just make sure there are no guards nearby who could hear the glass shatter. Perma switch out 25 light sources this way and the trophy will pop.

[top]
Privacy Matters
Disable 25 unguarded cameras.

Fortunately, those cameras from Eastern Europe make a hell of a noise, so you will always be able to tell if a camera is nearby: just listen for the purring sound they emit. Once you located the camera you can disable it - with your handgun . Just make sure to stay out of its detection range or approach it while it is pointing to another direction so you won't be discovered. NOTE: Some cameras are guarded (they are 'armoured'); you can't shoot those, shoot out the surrounding light sources to get past those. Shoot 25 unguarded cameras throughout the game and the trophy will unlock.

[top]
Friendly Chats
Interrogate 5 victims.

Sam can only interrogate special enemies; to interrogate someone, you have to sneak up on him and press to capture him. If it is one of the few people Sam can interrogate you will see an interrogate option in the top left corner. Press to start the interrogation. Below is a list of 'interrogateable' people. Please let me know if I missed someone.

  • The guard in the training mission.
  • The technician in the morgue in the police station.
  • Grinko's driver in the Georgian Defense Ministry Mission.
  • The technician on the oil platform.
  • The guard in mission 8, when you're objective is to locate the hostages.
  • Nikoladze in the last mission.

You can also farm interrogations with the method I explained in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section.

[top]
Collector
Disarm 15 wallmines.

You will come across wall mines for the first time in the CIA headquarters. To disarm a wallmine, sneak up to it slowly, then press to disarm it while the diode is green! Don't try to disarm it while it is red or it will explode in your face. You don't have to disarm 15 different wallmines, you could also disarm one, put it back on the wall, disarm it, put it on the wall, disarm it... you get the idea.

[top]
inHuman menace
Disable 10 turret sentry guns.

Approach a sentry gun from behind, press and disable it. Do this with 10 turrent sentry guns and you'll get yourself a new shiny bronze. You can also farm this using the method outlined in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section.

[top]
Quick-draw
Complete Kalinatek mission using only 5.7 mm Pistol.

Easy-peasy. You are still allowed to use wallmines and frag grenades and you are even allowed to use the secondary fire of your rifle, so you can still use Sticky Shockers or knock out enemies by shooting cameras at their heads (yeah, that works, too). Simply make sure never to fire your rifle with and you are fine. There is a video walkthrough for Kalinatek in the trophy description for Tech Wars. Check it out if you are having difficulties beating this level.

[top]
Charged up
Take out 10 guards using the Sticky Shocker.

This one is quite simple. You'll find Sticky Shockers throughout the game. Open you quick inventory with , and you will be able to select them, once you collected the first ones. Now press to aim as usual, but press to shoot. Take out ten guards like this and you'll be awarded a trophy.

[top]
"Knock, knock"
Peek under 10 doors.

It says under 10 doors, so you have to use your Optic Cable to get it. Standing in front of a door, press to open your quick inventory, select the Optic Cable and press to use it. Do this on 10 different doors and the trophy will pop.

[top]
"Over here!"
Capture 10 guards investigating the disturbance.

First think you'll need to do this is a neat little disturbance. You will come across objects like soda cans or bottles throughout the game. Press while standing near such an object and Sam will pick it up. Press to enter garbage throwing mode. You will see and arc, indicating where Sam is gonna throw the object. Aim with the left stick, then throw it with . If there was a guard nearby, he will run over to investigate the source of the noise. Sneak up on him and press once you are near enough to perform a capture. Do this to 10 guards and the trophy will pop.

[top]
"Passing through"
Complete Training Course without getting failed.

This trophy really is a piece of cake since you are allowed to load a savegame if anything goes wrong. You must not be heard or seen during the Training Course to obtain this trophy. Just save the game before you enter a new area so you don't have to do the whole Course again in case you screw up. I compiled a video for you so you can see what to expect. Press to view your data. Below is a list of all data sticks in the game.

NOTE: Data Sticks carry over to your second playthrough. So if you already found 40 in your first playthrough, you'll only need 10 more on your second run. You can also farm one and the same data stick using the method I explained in the Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits section.

Open the door, switch on your night vision with and get the lockpick. At the end of the first part of the Training Course you will find a locked door. Press to open your quick inventory and select the lockpick. Press near the door to use it. Pick the lock using the left stick. Inside you will find the first terminal with a data stick. Press select to check it. The code is for the door at the beginning of the course. Climb the wall on the left hand side (where the first light is) to use it.

  • 17 & 18 - There are two terminals in Nikoladze's office.
  • 19 & 20 - Leave Nikoladze's office and turn right, there you'll find another room with two terminals.
