[top]Tips & Strategies

Vanquish is a very fast paced game, you have to be thinking what to do next, how defeats enemies, and how and when to use boost dash, evade with and/or take cover with to survive your missions especially on the hard difficulty and definitely on the challenges.

If you’re starting to take damage get to cover without fear of being killed: There are bars on your suit that show your current health, Green is full health, yellow is half health, and red is danger low health, When in green you don’t have to take cover, when in yellow you should be thinking of where you can take cover, and when in red you should be moving to get into cover!

If your running low on ammo for your assault rifle for example and you find some on the floor, what you can do is drop your assault rifle for a weapon you don’t have in your inventory, pick that up and swap it for the full ammo assault rifle then return to the previous assault rifle you dropped and once you picked up that, you will upgrade your weapon instead of just getting max ammo.

When you get the opportunity to upgrade weapons through the green upgrade boxes or having full ammo and picking more up, you should upgrade the weapons you use the most, for example if you use the assault rifle to kill lots of the smaller robots then upgrade that or if you prefer using the heavy machine gun upgrade that etc. Be sure not to waste upgrades on weapons you barely use like the LFE gun or the Lock-on laser. Note that you will lose one weapon level if you die but to avoid this you can exit to main menu and continue from the same checkpoint.

If you are dying, throw an EMP grenade to stun and shock your opponents allowing you to return fire or/and get to cover.

Aim for the head of small robots for easier kills. Aim for the flashing orange/red colour bits to take damage on the bigger robots, that’s their weakness.

[top]Roadmap

This is the quickest way to :plat::

1. Step: Beat the game on hard difficulty without dying and collect all Pangloss statues.
This sounds harder than it actually is. Start a new game on hard difficulty, make sure you never change the difficulty during that playthrough and NEVER use chapter select before you have beaten the game, as this would disable Living Legend and ARS Operator. Don't worry too much about Living Legend. Actually you can die as often as you want and still earn that trophy. When you die (and trust me, you will) just DON'T choose "continue" but exit to the title screen and continue from there. This way, the death won't count. You don't lose any progress and you even keep your weapon upgrades, which is a nice and helpful side-effect of this procedure.

As long as you stick to the terrific videos in this guide you shouldn't have any issues with the Pangloss statues. However, don't rip your hair out if you should accidentally miss one, you don't have to get them all in one playthrough. Simple use chapter select AFTER you earned Living Legend. and ARS Operator. and get any statue you might have missed.

2. Step: Clean up and get all the trophies you might have missed via chapter select
There are 10 trophies which require you to meet certain conditions in various levels. You will find that you got some of them without even trying, like That Ended Up Working Nicely or Guardian. Others, like Failure Breeds Success or Buzzard Beater are really much easier to get if you go for them via mission select on casual or casual auto difficutly. Check which of those trophies you missed and get them out of the way.
If you didn't get The Best of All Possible Worlds in your first playthrough, you can use mission select to check in which chapter you missed one or more statues. There are statistics for every chapter, if it says '4' under Pangloss statues, you've got them all, if it says something else, replay that chapter and get every statue you missed.
You can also use mission select to get any other trophy you might have missed during your first playthrough, like The Hand of God or Smoke 'em if you've got 'em. See the relevant trophy descriptions in this guide for tips on which chapters are suited best for those trophies.

After this step you should have every trophy except for the hidden Tactical Challenger and :plat:.

3. Step: Beat the six challenges.
See Tactical Challenger for details. Good luck.

NOTE: NEVER use chapter select during your ARS Operator playthrough, as this will disable the trophy. You have to choose New Game from the main menu and play the game on hard or above from start to finish without using chapter select and without changing the difficulty for this trophy to unlock.

[top]
Gun Runner
Scan and acquire all weapons.

This trophy requires to hold every gun in the game at least once. The guns can be found around the levels, on the floors and in the boxes, you also get weapons when you revive your team-mates. The guns are:

Assault rifle
Heavy Machine Gun
LFE Gun
Lock on laser
Rocket launcher
Disk launcher
Sniper Rifle
Shotgun
EMP grenades
Hand grenades

You can get this trophy as early as in act 1-6, where the Rocket launcer and the LFE Gun appear for the first time.

[top]
King of the Hill
Level a weapon up to maximum operational capability.

There are two ways to upgrade a weapon. There are weapon upgrades which can be found throughout the game. If you activate one of those floating green boxes with it will upgrade the weapon you currently have equipped. The other way to upgrade a weapon is to collect a weapon of the same kind while the one you are holding if fully loaded.

However, if you already fired some (or even all) rounds you might still be able to upgrade your weapon with the second method. Try to get rid of weapon A by collecting a different type of weapon you don’t have in your inventory (weapon B). Now get the new and fully loaded weapon A for your placeholder weapon B. Finally, pick up your initial weapon A again, and voila: You don't only have full ammo but full ammo plus an upgrade.

Note that you will lose one weapon level if you die. To avoid this, simply exit to the title screen and continue from the same checkpoint.

If you focus on one or two weapons, you can easily get this trophy before the end of the second act.

[top]
Fight or Flight
Manually trigger AR Mode and destroy an enemy robot.

Hold whilst evading with to activate AR mode, then kill an enemy robot. To make this easier aim for the head; you will have plenty of time as it slows time down. You can do this at any point.

[top]
Adrenaline Rush
Manually trigger AR Mode and destroy three enemy robots in a row.

Hold whilst evading with to activate AR mode, then kill three enemy robots. Make sure you have reloaded your gun for this and aim for their heads to make it easier, you could try using a rocket launcher for this but you’d have to be careful with your aiming as you’ll only have the one chance. A good place to do this is 3-5 when one of the compartments opens with enemy robots in.

[top]
Going in for the Kill
Destroy ten enemy robots with melee attacks.

[top]
A Heartbreaker and Lifetaker
Destroy 100 enemy robots with melee attacks.

To do a melee attack you use the button; this automatically overheats your suit though, so you will have to use it wisely. This trophy is cumulative across all playthroughs. When you think it is safe use a melee attack to defeat a group of robots or a single robot and over time you will get this trophy. You will have to think about going for this trophy though, it will most likely not come naturally.

[top]
Helloooo, Nurse
Revive a friendly troop.

See Knight in Shining White Armor below.

[top]
Knight in Shining White Armor
Revive 20 friendly troops.

If an ally takes too much damage he will get down and a little green cross will appear next to him. You can go to his aid and revive him by pressing . You will get a weapon as a little thank you so rescuing your allies will help you with leveling up your weapons. Revive 20 friendly troops and this trophy will pop.

[top]
Death Wish
Destroy three enemy robots while in damage-triggered AR Mode.

To do this you have to take enough damage for your suit to activate AR mode automatically (flashing red health), then you aim for the 3 robots and shoot them in the heads, like Adrenaline Rush. A good place to do this is 3-5 when one of the compartments opens with enemy robots in.

[top]
40 Yard Dash
Maintain a Boost dash to the limit of the ARS reactor without overheating.

You can already do this at the very start of the game. Just run down the alley until you get past all of the windows that explode, turn around and press to boost and stop just before you overheat (there is a meter at the bottom right hand side of the screen). If you head all the way from the start to the first door whilst boosting and not overheating you should get this trophy. Of course there are plenty of other opportunities in the game to get this. Basically, all you need is enough space to boost.

[top]
Home Run
Destroy an incoming missile or grenade.

See Home Run God below.

[top]
Home Run God
Destroy ten incoming missiles or grenades.

The best location to get this trophy is while fighting the Argus robot in Act 1, chapter 3. I got this without trying when I was using the turret at the beginning of the fight. The Argus will launch dozens of missiles form time to time, all you have to do is fire into this "swarm" of missiles and you will hit ten in seconds.
You can also get this trophy after you destroy the core for the first time. The Argus will spam hundreds of missiles before it gets into bipedal mode. Simply get into AR-Mode (evade with and hold ) and shoot ten of the missiles.

There is an awesome RoosterTeeth video hidden in the spoiler box, so if you should have any trouble with this trophy just take a peek:

[top]
Brutality Bonus
Destroy a Romanov's arms and legs, then finish it with a melee attack.

A Romanov is a bigger robot than the others. They can be either a drill, rocket or flame Romanov robot; to do this trophy go into AR mode and start shooting at the legs of a Romanov (a disk launcher is good for this) until they both blow up and it can only crawl, then use AR mode again and aim for one of its arms and blow that up to so it leaves it with one arm left then punch it with .

[top]
Romanov This!
Destroy a Romanov with a melee attack.

You will get this when going for Brutality Bonus or The Hand of God.

[top]
The Hand of God
Destroy two Romanovs in a row using only melee attacks.

A great place to get this trophy is 5-1; actually you can get it together with Buzzard Beater. Like with Buzzard Beater, you should play on casual to make this a ton easier. There are two Rocket Romanovs in the Buzzard area. Dash to one of them and attack him with , then find some cover to cool down. The Romanovs will only take two hits each on casual, so this should be easy as pie.

[top]
Robots Tend to Blow Up
Destroy three enemy robots at once with one hand grenade.

There are numerous opportunities throughout the game to get this trophy and you'll probably get it without even trying. The easiest way to get this is to throw a grenade at an enemy transport just after it has landed. Another good opportunity to get this trophy is 3-5, simply throw a grenade into one of those compartements filled with enemy robots.
Oh, and by the way: It is virtually impossible to complete all the challanges without meeting the requirements for this trophy.

[top]
Hole-in-One
Destroy a Chicane with a hand grenade.

A Chicane is them robots that deploy into walls. Basically to get this select your hand grenades with the left directional button, shoot most of the other enemies around the Chicane but not all as they usually get up and make it harder for you to kill. Then move behind them and throw the grenade straight at them using to throw grenades.

[top]
Short Circuit
Destroy ten enemy robots that have been disabled with an EMP emitter.

An EMP grenade will stun enemy robots for a couple of seconds (you can switch between Hand Grenades and EMP grenades with ). Every enemy robot you destroy while it is disabled from an EMP grenade will count toward this trophy. This trophy is cumulative across all playthroughs, making this another trophy you'll probably get without even trying.

[top]
Two Birds with One Stone
Destroy two or more enemy robots at once with the LFE gun.

A good place to do this is when you’re protecting the convoy against them big jellyfish robots in the underground tunnel on 2-1. The LFE gun is usually at the beginning of this level to the right, pick it up and aim for the groups of the little insect robots, they take only one hit to kill with any weapon and the LFE gun has a big radius so it shouldn’t be a problem.

[top]
Trick Shot
Destroy three enemy robots at once with rocket launcher splash damage.

Another very easy . One way to obtain this trophy is to fire a rocket at an enemie transport. Enter AR mode to make this much easier. Another good opportunity to get this trophy is Act 3-5. Simply fire a rocket into one of those compartements filled with enemy robots.

[top]
Flash! King of the Impossible
Destroy four enemies simultaneously with the Lock-on Laser.

This can be a pain if the Lock-on Laser is not leveled up to level 3. Fortunalty, there is a place where you can get this trophy without wasting upgrades on this pretty useless weapon. You can obtain this trophy with a level 1 Lock-On laser in 1-6 if you are lucky enough to find one in one of the crates (or if you brought one of course). Use it to lock on the 4 of the small insect robots you will find a little later in this level. They will only take one hit to kill, and there are plenty of them. Simply lock onto four of them and fire and you will get the trophy. Look down your sights with and press and hold to lock onto the robots.
Another great opportunity to get this is at the beginning of the first challenge. There will be a lock-on laser right behind your spawning point. Lock onto the group of robots and fire, then lock onto the same robots again and fire a second time. If you kill four robots with this second shot, the trophy will unlock. If you screw up, simply restart the challenge.

[top]
Piece by Piece
Destroy the arms, head, and back of an KNRB-0 Argus robot.

You will first find the KNRB-0 robot at 1-3 as it will be your first boss fight. Firstly shoot at the legs and the core (when exposed) of the robot until it is in bi-pedal mode (standing up). Next shoot one of his arms until it is completely blown off, once you do this the robot will pick you up giving you the chance to shoot it in the face. After this short QTE (quick time event) you will return to the ground; shoot the red core at the back of the robot and finally finish it off by shooting the core of the robot and when it dies you get the trophy.

[top]
That Ended Up Working Nicely
After taking control of the enemy transport in Act 2-2, do not let a single enemy escape.

After the first part of this chapter where you have to protect the monorail there will be a brief cut-scene where you jump on an enemy transport. You will be able to control the ship's turrets, they will follow your aim and can be fired using . Simply shoot all enemies you see and you will earn this trophy. This isn't really difficult and you will probably get it without trying.

[top]
Failure Breeds Success
Destroy two Argus robots in Act 2-3 while they are in bipedal mode.

This is done against the really big robots at the end of 2-3; bipedal mode is when they are stood up and not when all their legs are on the floor like a spider. One of the robots is already in this mode and the other is not. Firstly aim for the robot that has all of its legs on the floor, shoot one of its legs until the core is exposed, then you can shoot the core until the core is exposed no more, do this again with a different leg and shoot the core again until there is a QTE in which you “drill yourself into the robot”, fail this sequence and the robot will go into bi-pedal mode. Now you can destroy both of the robots freely and get the trophy. I recommend doing this on casual auto to make it much easier and less frustrating.

[top]
Leibniz Defense Agency
Defend the Pangloss statue in Act 3-2.

A bit into 3-2 a armored tank will burst through a wall and head straight for the great Pangloss statue in the middle of the area. Throw an EMP grenade at it to stop its progress and dash to its back. Start firing at its weak spot. When it starts moving again, throw another EMP to stop it again and finish it off. If you should mess up and the statue gets destroyed, hit and restart from the last checkpoint.

[top]
Tightrope Walker
Destroy two cannons in Act 3-3 and complete the mission.

Act 3-3 is the level where the bridge starts to collapse and fall and you have to hurry across it before you fall with the bridge. The two cannons that you need to destroy are on the opposite end of the collapsing bridge. There is 4 other cannons above the two you need to destroy but they get destroyed so you don’t need to worry about them. You will need to be quick as the bridge does go down quickly, so if you have a rocket launcher I would use that to deal high damage to the cannons. I would also recommend to use AR mode to slow down and aim your shots more, ignore the other enemies and focus on the cannons when you get close enough to shoot at them, once you have destroyed them carry on forward off the bridge and you will get the trophy.

[top]
Fisher is the Other Sam
Proceed on the monorail in Act 3-4 without being spotted by the enemy troops or searchlights.

During this mission you'll be on a monorail and Elena will tell you to destroy all the searchlights so you won't be noticed. The searchlights will appear on your radar, so this shouldn't be a problem. Grab one of the sniper rifles lying around and start shooting the searchlights. About halfway through an enemy transport will appear. Wait half a second until it is facing you, then quickly get into AR mode and headshot the driver to finish the ship off with one shot. After that, simply shoot all the remaining searchlight and the trophy is yours.

[top]
Flyswatter
Destroy all the floating turrets in Act 3-4.

This is the same stealth mission as in Fisher is the Other Sam above. Near the end of the mission, you will hear an ally say "enemies up ahead". This is your cue, watch out for two floating turrents in the distance. They will be entering from the left, they will be pretty far away and they will float past without even attacking you, which makes them easy to miss. Get into AR mode and kill both drivers with the sniper rifle. If you should screw up, press and restart from the last checkpoint.

There is a really helpful video by hayabusaDGO hidden in the spoiler box below:

[top]
Guardian
Do not allow any friendly armor to be destroyed during Act 3-5.

At the start of 3-5 you will face a tank, defeat this and then go up to a walkway with two turrets on it, simply use the turrets to destroy enemy tanks advancing on friendly tanks, there is five in total, two will come from the left hand side of the middle rock and 2 will come from the right hand side of the rock, then finally one will come through the rock. Destroy these 5 and you will get the trophy if you still have both of your tanks alive, if one gets destroyed just restart the checkpoint and try again.

[top]
Hurry the #@$% Up!
Destroy five or more enemy transports from atop the Kreon in Act 3-7.

When you get to the big orange glowing cable that you need to rip out, turn around and aim for the pilots of the enemy transports. Destroy five of them to get this trophy. Aim for the heads of the pilots and go into the AR mode to make it easier. Of course you can also use the mounted gun do do this. You can also just shoot at the transport itself instead of the pilot, but that takes much more bullets. You will get the trophy after you have destroyed five transports.

[top]
Civil Disobedience
Ignore the elevator start order in Act 4-1. Instead, hold position and destroy all reinforcements.

At the end of 4-1 you will have to fight off a bunch of enemies while waiting for an elevator. After some time, the elevator will arrive and you will be asked repeatedly to get into the elevator and move on. Ignore these kind requests and keep killing all the robots that spawn until the trophy pops. It will unlock before you get into the elevator, so if you think you killed every enemy and you still didn't hear the satisfying 'ding', have a look around: there might be a stray robot somewhere waiting for the coup de grâce.

[top]
Buzzard Beater
Destroy the Buzzard without allowing it to reach ground level in Act 5-1.

I would recommend to do this on casual or casual auto as this can be a bit tricky. There is an area with some smaller robots, two Romanovs and a Buzzard sitting on a building to the right. First, clear the area of the robots and the Romanovs (this is also a good opportunity to go for The Hand of God). After that, mount one of the turrets in the room to the left and start shooting the Buzzard until it has a little bit more than half of its health left. STOP SHOOTING NOW, as the Buzzard will jump down to ground level as soon as its health drops under 50 %. To prevent it from doing this throw an EMP grenade at it, then immediatly get back to the turret and start firing again. After some shots throw another EMP emitter at it before the Buzzard can recover from the last one. Start firing at it again. Repeat until the Buzzard is dead.

Note: The game will auto save once the Buzzard hits the ground, so as soon as you see the Buzzard jump press and restart from the last checkpoint.

[top]
Smoke 'em if ya got 'em!
Destroy 10 enemies distracted by cigarettes during one mission.

Near the end of 3-5 you will have to jump onto the enemy robot ship the “Kreon”, before you do infiltrate this ship there is a good spot for this trophy. As you go up a ramp you will see sandbags, take cover behind these. On the other side of this bridge there is a open hatch of the robot with about 20 robots shooting at you. Take cover and press to light your cig and throw it; once you do this you will have little time to kill 10 robots, as they won’t be distracted for long. Use AR mode to have a better chance at killing more robots. The rocket launcher will make this much easier, search the crates in the area for one before trying this. You will only have 3 cigarettes per mission so save them up for this part of the mission; you can get this trophy using all 3 of the cigarettes!

The Best of All Possible Worlds
Find and fire open all of the Pangloss statues hidden on the colony.

The only collectible trophy in the game, and it isn't even missable. Except for 1-1, there are four Pangloss statues hidden in every chapter, totalling up to 112 statues. Don't rip your hair out if you should miss one or two, you can get them in a second playthrough or via mission select. There are even statistics for each chapter, so you'll see exactly in which chapter you missed something. But remember not to use mission select while going for Survivor, ARS Operator and Living Legend as this will disable those trophies.

There are some very helpful videos hidden in the spoiler boxes below, showing you the locations of all those 112 statues. Credits for the videos covering acts 2-5 go to roosterteeth, the video for Act one was done by rpranda.

Living Legend
Complete the game without dying, regardless of difficulty level.

This trophy sounds much harder than it actually is. When you die (and especially on hard, you will) just DON'T choose "continue" but exit to the title screen and continue from there. This way, the death won't count. You don't lose any progress and you even keep your weapon upgrades, which is a nice and helpful side-effect of this procedure as it will make your playthrough on hard much easier.

[top]
Tactical Challenger
Complete all of the Tactical Challenges in VANQUISH

There are six challenges you have to beat in order to obtain this trophy. Challenges 1-5 are unlocked by beating the respective acts on normal difficulty of above. Challenge six is unlocked by beating the first five challenges.

This trophy is keeping a vast number of people from plat. While the first five challenges range from moderate to hard in terms of difficulty, challenge six can only be described with adjectives like insane, ridiculous, or simply mind-bogglingly hard. I'm really happy that two of our best guide writers offered to help with that challenge. Kevinnummer1 made the world's first Tactical Challenge 6 tutorial video for you and bodigard wrote a detailed guide for challenge six; you'll find both in the last spoiler box below.

Of course there are video guides for the other challenges as well. Credit for this amazing work go to Dragenyo; if you study his videos and follow his strategies you shouldn't have too much trouble with challenges 1-5. Oh, and btw: If I would have to sort the challenges by difficulty, the order would be probably something like 2 < 3 < 5 < 1 < 4. Just FYI.
