[top]Tips & Strategies

The Valley is home to many of the same foes from the main game, but with the addition of its namesake: Yetis. These behemoths are integral to the story, and pack one hell of a punch. Some tips to keep in mind are:
  • Finish the upgrade quests ASAP. The fortifications and traps are very helpful in the attacks on your base at the relay station. A little extra support never hurts, eh?
  • Know the yetis' weaknesses. As with most enemies, shots to the head are effective. Also keep in mind that explosives will quickly weaken them, allowing for quick takedowns.
  • To go with the previous tip, try to find a rocket/grenade launcher and keep it on you at all times.
  • By collecting certain skins from loot crates across the map, you will be able to upgrade everything from how many weapons you can hold to the size of your wallet. Useful if you want to use more than just a pistol.

The Valley of the Yetis is a rather short add-on, but don't let that get in the way of your quest for 100%. Start the game by escaping the crash site and make your way to the relay station. After surviving the first night, you will be free to explore the entire valley at your leisure. Before continuing, you may wish to complete all 9 upgrade quests, as they can help you survive each nightly attack. Once done, continue with the story until its conclusion for a nice 100% completion (assuming you've already earned the in the main game.)

After escaping from the crash site on the mountainside, you'll come to a group of enemies near a radio relay station. To take over the station, you'll need to kill every enemy soldier in the area. You'll know when you've accomplished this, as the screen will turn blue and you'll hear a hunting horn blare through the valley.

After securing the relay station as your new base of operations, head inside to stock up on supplies and then take a little nap on the bed. When you wake up, you'll be under attack by Sandesh's men! Defend the station from the waves of attackers, and beware of the ones that slip past you. These sneaky attackers will begin to set up bombs around your base. If you don't take them down within 30 seconds, the whole place will be blown sky-high! After the final enemy falls, you will have successfully survived the first of five nights.

Complete All Relay Station Upgrade Quests (Valley Of The Yetis, Single Player Only).

Upgrade Quests become available for you to complete once you survive the initial attack on the Relay Station. Ugrade Quests have the unique ability to unlock a new defense mechanism for your base to aid in your nighttime battles. These side missions are marked with a large "!" in 9 locations across the map.
  • Five of the missions task you will sneaking into an enemy camp and stealing a supply truck. You must return the truck intact to your base at the relay station to earn a new free upgrade to your defenses.
  • Two more require you to do a bit of mountain climbing/gliding to reach. Be careful not to fall!
  • One mission will have you seek out three missing objects in the valley. Look for them in the highlighted areas. Listen for a beeping sound to clue you in on their distance.
  • The final mission can be somewhat annoying. You need to protect a group of Yaks from attack by snow leopards. There are four waves to the attack, and at least ten of the animals must be alive at the end. Beware! Yaks may charge you if you get too close (ungrateful little bastard )

This will unlock as you finish the sixth and final mission. You will be tasked with making your way to the peak of the highest mountain in the valley to destroy the cult's Relic once and for all. As you begin your climb, you will start to notice more and more yetis strolling about. Find a way past them and enter what looks like a fog gate from the Souls series to find a large tree in the center of the room. Shoot at it to be knocked backwards and start hallucinating. Now you just need to destroy the 7 roots and make your way back for the final blow. An unusual ending takes place, sending you to the credits. The trophy will unlock after the credits end or if you skip them.

Spiritual Hunter
Kill A Yeti (Valley Of The Yetis, Single Player Only).

You will earn this during the events of the story. See Master of the Awakened for more information about Yetis.

Master of the Awakened
Kill 5 Yetis (Valley Of The Yetis, Single Player Only).

Yetis are the largest enemies in the valley, standing at nearly twice your height, and dealing massive damage if they hit you. The only way to take down these beasts is to concentrate fire on their heads (preferably with an LMG) or use explosives to weaken them. Once they slouch forward and grab their head in pain, you can either continue to shoot them, wasting valuable ammunition, or run behind them and press to initiate a takedown. This will have Ajay climb up the beast's back and begin stabbing it in the head by mashing the appropriate face button (,,,). There are plenty of Yetis throughout the valley, and even more throughout the story itself.
  • Mission 3: At the final disruptor generator, there is a cave system with a Yeti inside. Kill it to access the generator unharmed.
  • Night 3: During one of the final waves of the attack, a Yeti will crash through the attackers and set his sights on you. Take him down to survive the night.
  • Night 4: Like the previous night, a Yeti will show up late to the party and wreak havoc upon your base. Kill him to end the attack.
  • Night 5: This time around, you will end up facing 3-4 yetis amidst the waves of enemy soldiers.
  • Mission 6: The final mission places you on a mountaintop with about 4 yetis. Sneak past or kill them to continue.
While the list above shows plenty of opportunities to kill yetis as a method to progress through the story, it is still possible to finish the story without killing 5. This can happen when an enemy comes under attack from one of the beasts. His buddies will begin shooting at the creature, and may eventually kill it themselves. If this happens, you will not get the 3,000XP for a "Yeti Kill" and it won't count toward the trophy. If this happens to you often and you don't have the trophy by the end of the DLC, you can farm the beasts out in the wilderness. One spot always seems to have a Yeti nearby, shown in the image below.

If you don't feel like using up all of your ammo hunting the beasts, you can always hijack one of the cult convoy trucks and run one over for a quick and easy kill.
