[top]Tips & Strategies

This game has no manual save function, it will autosave at the start of every Chapter and at each Godstone, all of these saves can be accessed and reloaded through the menu. There is also a rolling autosave after each decision but it is useless for the purpose of backtracking.

The Banner Saga involves turn based combat, decision making and resource management.

Combat
Your heroes cannot die in combat, they can be knocked out and will take a couple of days to recover (depending on difficulty).
Before each battle you will be asked to assemble your heroes, don't overlook this.
You should place your high break heroes first as they will break your enemies armor, allowing your heavy hitters to move in to inflict high damage.
You can also place you characters on the battlefield before the fight begins, make sure you place them close together so nobody gets isolated.
In combat you have two attributes Strength & Armor, Strength doubles as health and attack power while Armor protects strength by decreasing damage inflicted.
You can view everyone's strength & armor at any time by pressing .
You will need to pay attention to your heroes range, melee characters only have a 1 square range and must be adjacent to their target, spear users have a 2 square range and can attack diagonally, archers have a 5 square range (if they are in range a number appears beneath them).
There is no option to spin the combat area 360 degrees, you can only zoom in and out so sometimes it can be difficult to see exactly whats going on or exactly how near you are to an enemy.
The quickest and easiest way to deal with all enemies is to whittle down their armor with mobile archers then move in with your heavy hitters.
Do not waste your Exertion & Willpower in combat, adding Exertion to an attack or a movement is a waste unless it kills an enemy or gets rid of all his armor.
Remember to use the Horn, every kill adds 1 Exertion which is usable by all heroes by pressing

War
You will encounter several War's while you journey with your caravan.
The questions you are asked beforehand determine how difficult the fight will be and how many casualties you will suffer.
You can immediately fight again for extra renown and a morale boost if you wish but your heroes will start with whatever stats they finished with.
Here are the different options and their consequences:
"Charge" - a difficult battle, your caravans casualties will be low
"Formations" - a slightly less difficult battle with reasonable casualties
"Hold them off" - an easy battle but lots of casualties
"Retreat" - no battle but very heavy casualties
"Oversee" - you will not enter battle, it will be decided based on the strength of your party, casualties will be comparable to "Formations"

Leveling up
You can level up you heroes either before battle or in the heroes tent in Camp.
You will need to spend 50 renown and achieve 14 kills to fully level up one hero.
Increasing a heroes level automatically raises the power of their ability and they can carry an item equal to their new level.
You can increase the following stats:
Strength - serves as both strength & attack power
Armor - defence, protects you strength from attacks
Willpower - allows you to act beyond your current potential, e.g move extra squares or inflict extra damage
Exertion - dictates how much Willpower you can use
Break - dictates how much damage you can do to an enemies Armor

You should prioritize Break, followed by Exertion & Willpower and leave Strength & Armor until last, this applies to all heroes.
For your first two playthroughs you should experiment with different stratagies and characters so you are comfortable with what you are doing for your third playthrough on hard.

Decision making
Throughout The Banner Saga you will be asked to make many tough decisions that will affect the mood of your caravan and whether characters live or die.
It is rarely clear what the right decision is and very often there is no right answer.
In the below trophy guide I have tried to give you the least bad option depending on your playthrough.
While some characters may die and morale will rise and fall ultimately the end of the game is the same no matter what you do.

Resource management
The only resource in the game is renown.
It is earned in combat and by making favorable decisions.
It can be spent on supplies for your caravan, leveling up heroes and buying treasures.
Unfortunately there isn't enough available to feed everyone and level up all characters so you will have to decide which is more important.

[top]Roadmap

To achieve The Banner Saga Master you must achieve a kill with each of the 18 available character classes, visit 9 Godstones , complete the game on Normal & Hard and carry out 9 miscellaneous tasks. This requires a minimum of 3 playthroughs with one replayed Chapter.
The below 3 playthroughs can be done in any order but for the purpose of the trophy guide I shall refer to them as they appear below.
Before reading this roadmap and guide be aware that it contains many spoilers.
Unfortunately difficulty trophies do not stack so you will have to do a playthrough on Normal & Hard.

Playthrough 1
The main focus of this playthrough is getting a kill with each class, visiting each Godstone, fully leveling 6 characters and fighting in 40 battles.
Fighting 40 battles and fully leveling up 6 characters will lock you out of QuartermasterInnocent High Spirits Forced March
You should start a new game on Normal, fight all available battles (see Warmonger for a full walkthrough), get a kill with every class as they become available and inspect all Godstones as you pass them.
None of the Godstones are missable but you will have to inspect them as you pass, some of the character classes only stay with you for a very brief time so have a read through them in the below trophy guide before you start.
All character classes are available to use on this playthrough, in the below trophy descriptions I will outline when and for how long they become available and any requirements for them to join your party. I have also included pictures of each so you can recognize them immediately.
Rather than wasting renown on characters you have no intention of upgrading you should get most of your character kill trophies in the Training Tent.
You should also get Treasure Hunter on this playthrough so have a read through the trophy description to get 5 free level treasures.
You will need to fully upgrade 6 characters in to achieve Master Tactican so pick 6 to focus on, I recommend Rook, Alette, Tryggvi, Iver, Oddlief & Eyvind (already fully upgraded when he joins you) as they all join quite early and stay until the end. You will need to do this before you reach Boersgard.
You are going to be spending most of your renown on leveling up so accept that your morale and food are going to run low early.
It is very important that you bring Onef with you at the start of Chapter 5.

Playthrough 2
For this playthrough you will be keeping spirits high, keeping everyone well fed but moving along at a brisk pace.
You will have to spend all your renown on supplies so you will not be leveling up until the end of Chapter 6 but so long as you play on easy you will have no issues.
See Forced March for a full guide to this playthrough.
If you missed any class kills on your first run you can get them here as all characters are available again.
It is again very important that you take Onef along at the start of Chapter 5 so again you are locked out of Innocent Beat The Odds

Playthrough 3
For this playthrough you will need to play through the game on Hard without losing any battles and manage the Alette and Egil storylines.
You will have to spend most of your renown on leveling up so get used to the low morale, however you will have to rest regularly to heal any of your injured party, you will also want to avoid any unnecessary battles.
It is very important that you not allow Onef to join your party at the start of Chapter 5.

[top]Trophies

[top]
The Banner Saga Master
Get all trophies

[top]
Grudgewielder
Defeat an enemy with a Grudgewielder.

This is Ekkill, he will ask to join your caravan during Chapter 4 if you allow Onef to join you and steal the supplies from Frostvellr.
Depending on your actions he won't stay around very long so get this done as soon as he becomes available.

[top]
Diplomat
Get permission to destroy a varl landmark.

You will get this for defending the bridge three times in Einartoft during Chapter 5.
Eyvind will ask you to help him destroy the bridge, instead you should co-operate with the Varl and defend it.
You will need to participate in all three battles and not just watch from the sidelines.
You should do this on your 3rd (Hard no losses) playthrough as you will need it to keep Egil alive.
This trophy will not pop until the end of the game.

[top]
Provoker
Defeat an enemy with a Provoker.

This is Fasolt, he will join your caravan midway through Chapter 3.
Be sure and get a kill with him before the end of Chapter 5 or he will be gone forever.

[top]
Godstone Ingrid
Visit the godstone Ingrid.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Ingrid, the Goddess of Knowledge, shortly after leaving Haukstorp during Chapter 6.
Inspecting it yields nothing, however you should insist on bringing the Dredge baby with you to receive the Vadrun Silver Brooch treasure (level 3 +1 strength resistance).

[top]
Godstone Marek
Visit the godstone Marek.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Marek not long after leaving Wyrmtoe during Chapter 4.
While there you should all your caravan to collect all the fishscales to receive the Godscale treasure (level 5 +3 armor & 1 drawing agro).

[top]
Warmaster
Defeat an enemy with a Warmaster.

This is Hakon, he is available to use during Chapter 1 & 3, he returns briefly during Chapters 5 & 7.

[top]
Normal Difficulty
Complete the game on Normal difficulty.

Unfortunately difficulty trophies do not stack so you will have to do a full Normal playthrough.
I recommend playthrough 1 as your heroes will be leveling up quickly and will breeze through most battles.

[top]
Backbiter
Defeat an enemy with a Backbiter.

This is Onef, he will ask to join your caravan at the start of Chapter 4. If you allow him to join you cannot achieve Innocent & Beat the Odds
However he is vital for High Spirits Quartermaster & Warmonger
He is available to use until the end of Chapter 6.

[top]
Innocent
Alette doesn't want to harm humans or varl...don't make her.

Poor Alette doesn't want to get her hands dirty.
You should go for this on your third playthrough as you need Onef for the first two.
You can use her freely against the Dredge but do not bring her into any fight involving humans or Varl.
Do not bring her into the training tent.
You also should not use her Thread the Needle ability in battle as it may cause damage to your heroes.
Most importantly do not recruit Onef at the start of Chapter 4 as Alette will murder his mutinous ass.
For playthroughs one and two you should use her however you see fit.
This trophy will unlock at the end of the game.

[top]
Skystriker
Defeat an enemy with a Skystriker.

This is Oddleif, she will join your caravan at the start of Chapter 2 staying until the games end.

[top]
Godstone Dundr
Visit the godstone Dundr.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Dundr during Chapter 6 not long after the road splits.
Inspecting it yields nothing.

[top]
Quartermaster
Complete the game without letting anyone in your caravan die to hunger.

To achieve this you will have to buy all supplies from all markets until the middle of Chapter 6 and have Onef join your party at the start of Chapter 4.
See Forced March for a full guide.

[top]
Eagle Eye
Defeat an enemy with an Eagle Eye.

This is Alette, she is Rook's daughter and is available to use from the beginning of Chapter 2.
You can use her freely for playthroughs 1 & 2 but you need to be extremely careful with her during playthrough 3 for Innocent

[top]
Warden
Defeat an enemy with a Warden.

This is Erik, he is available to use during Chapter 1.
I recommend getting this as soon as possible as he may become unavailable quite early, depending on your decisions.

[top]
Challenge
Complete the game on Hard difficulty level without losing a single battle.

This should be your final playthrough.
You will need to change the difficulty to Hard before you start and complete the whole game without losing a battle.
Your first two playthroughs should have taught you how the game works and how to best approach combat & leveling up.
It isn't that big of a step up from Normal so you really shouldn't have many issues.
If it looks like you are going to lose a battle reload before the fight ends, do not wait for the fight to end as doing so may void the trophy (this is the case on PC).
You should avoid all unnecessary battles and try to stick with the same few heroes were possible.
Spend all your renown on promotions as your supplies are going to run out anyway if you are following my roadmap and have left the Alette & Egil trophies for this playthrough.

[top]
Bowmaster
Defeat an enemy with a Bowmaster.

This is Nid, in order to have her join your party you must allow Oddleif train the peasant women at archery during Chapter 4.
Get this done as quickly as possible as she may not stay around for very long, bring her into the Training Tent as soon as she joins you.

[top]
Treasure Hunter
Acquire 5 rank 5 items.

You will get 2 by inspecting Godstones, 1 for stealing some supplies & murdering villagers, 1 for helping a hungover Varl & 1 story related.
They are also freely available to buy for 25 renown at the markets of the many towns you will visit.
Here are the five free ones, you will need Onef in your party so you should get this on playtghrough one or two.

Shepersky Stone - you should accept Onef's request to let him join your caravan(Chapter 4) and then make multiple trips to get all the villages supplies, you will get this treasure when the storehouse fight is finished.

Godscale
- allow your caravan to collect all the fishscales at the Godstone of Marek during Chapter 4

Dunr's Hand - Krumr will fall back to fight Dredge shortly after Haukstorp during Chapter 6, he will give you this on his return.

Bjorulf's Blessing - at Reynvik during Chapter 6 you will be given the option to help a Varl (Sigbjorn) that is fighting some Dredge, help him and he will join your party. A day later you should help him to recover when he wakes up and you will get this level 5 treasure.

Stravhs Whetson -during Chapter 7 Juno will ask you to climb Stravhs Godstone to retrieve some metal needed to create an arrow tip to fight Bellower. You should climb higher where the metal is easier to remove and then look for another piece and this treasure will be yours.

[top]
Mender
Defeat an enemy with a Mender.

This is Eyvind, he will join your caravan at the end of Chapter 3 and he will stay until the games end.
He is already fully upgraded to level 5 so make sure and spend all his available points.

[top]
Godstone Hridvaldyr
Visit the godstone Hridvaldyr.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Hridvaldyr during Chapter 2 shortly after leaving Skogr.
Stop and inspect it to receive the Bjarken Rune treasure (level 2-15% dodge strength attack).

[top]
Warleader
Defeat an enemy with a Warleader.

This is Krumr, he will join your caravan during Chapter 4 but he will come and go so get this done as soon as possible.

[top]
Godstone Stravhs
Visit the godstone Stravhs.

Juno will take you to visit the Godstone of Stravhs towards the end of Chapter 7.
She will instruct you to retrieve metal from the Godstone, you should climb higher where it may be easier to remove & then look for another piece to receive the Stravhs Whetstone treasure (level 5 +20% chance to double strength damage).

[top]
Raidmaster
Defeat an enemy with a Raidmaster.

This is Valgard, he appears only for the fight with the noblemen during Chapter 1 so get this done immediately.

[top]
High Spirits
Complete the game without ever getting low morale.

To achieve this trophy you must never let Morale drop below normal for the whole playthrough.
As a general rule Morale can be sustained by camping, resting & feeding your caravan every second day.
However it can also be increased or decreased by the decisions that you make.
In order to have enough supplies to sustain Morale at a normal level you will have to buy all available supplies until the mid point of Chapter 6 and have Onef join your caravan during Chapter 4.
For the purpose of this trophy guide I have combined High Spirits Forced March Quartermaster into a single playthrough with 1 replayed Chapter.
See Forced March for a full guide.

[top]
Siege Archer
Defeat an enemy with a Siege Archer.

This is Yrsa, she will join your caravan during Chapter 3.
She doesn't stay around very long depending on your actions.

[top]
Warhawk
Defeat an enemy with a Warhawk.

This is Gunnulf, he will be available to use during Chapter 1 & 3, he may reappear for Chapters 6 & 7 depending on your decisions.
This will most likely be the first trophy you will earn.

[top]
Beat the Odds
Whew...Egil made it the whole way!

Poor old Egil, everyone wants a piece of him.
Egil wants to make it to the end of the game....help him.
After the first battle at Skogr you should shoot an arrow at the Dredge threatening Alette or Egil will run to help her and get killed.
Onef will kill him outside Frostvellr if you try and ambush the supply wagon and fail.
He will get killed by Dredge at Einartoft if you try to help on the bridge but don't participate in the battles yourself.
Also the mutinous Onef will kill him during Chapter 6 if you allowed him to join your caravan during Chapter 4.
In short shoot an arrow at the Dredge during Chapter 2, do not attack the supply wagon at Frostvellr, defened the bridge 3 times and do not let Onef join your caravan. You should also be careful not to lose any battle he participates in.
You should go for this on your third playthrough as you need Onef for the other 2.

[top]
Godstone Bjorulf
Visit the godstone Bjorulf.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Bjorulf towards the end of Chapter 6.
Inspecting it yields nothing, however you should join the merrymakers there for a morale boost.

[top]
Hunter
Defeat an enemy with a Hunter.

This is Rook, he becomes playable during Chapter 2 and stays until the end of the game.

[top]
Hard Difficulty
Complete the game on Hard difficulty.

This will unlock at the end of your Challenge playthrough.

[top]
Thrasher
Defeat an enemy with a Thrasher.

This is Mogun, he will join your caravan during Chapter 2 so long as you either side with him and his brother against the villagers or allow the fight to play out on its own. He will be lost if you side with him and his brother during the battle and lose or if you stay too long outside Frostvellr so get this done in the Training Tent as soon as he is available.

[top]
Forced March
Reach Boersgard in 120 days.

You must reach Boersgard within 120 days, this is manageable along with Quartermaster & High Spirits but involves replaying Chapter 6.
You will spending all your renown on supplies until mid Chapter 6 so do not level up or buy any treasures.
You should inspect, but not rest at, all Godstones.

Below is a Chapter by Chapter guide to the decisions that must be made and the rest that must be taken.
This guide will get you to Boersgard by day 115 so you have a little room for manoeuvre if things don't work out or you need to take an extra couple of days rest.
You may not encounter all the below random events in your playthgrough or you may experience them in a different order.
I will give a few brief key words from each event and the least bad answer.
You will be letting your morale run to normal, sustaining it at that level until Chapter 6 then raising it to Good.

Chapter 1
You will start with high morale and plenty of supplies so just play through the Chapter normally.

Chapter 2 Storyline
You should collect the supplies after beating the Dredge at the start of the Chapter with Rook & Alette.
At Skogr you should spend all you renown on supplies.
You should help Iver with the distraction in Skogr and rouse the caravan with a speech.
Once you reach the Godstone you should inspect it and move on immediately.
When you reach the small village on the way to Frostvellr buy all available supplies and rest for 1 day.
You should allow Hogun & Mogun sort out their own problems withn the villagers, they will later join you for a renown and supply reup.
You will need to rest on the road once on the way to Frostvellr where you should buy all available supplies and enter through the water tunnel that Egil discovers.

Chapter 2 random Events
"Watering hole with animals"-allow them to join you for you for a supplies and renown boost.
"Drunken Brawl"-tie him up or morale will drop.
"Small split in the trail"-wish the fighters well and send them on.
"Rafnsvarts excessive drinking"-allow him only drink water from now on, if you send him to camp alone morale will drop.
"Rafnsvart shouting Dredge"-you should let the clansmen deliver justice as everything else will reuslt in a morale drop.

Chapter 3 Storyline
Ludin will see Dredge off in the distance, you should send Mogr.
Ludin will again see some Dredge in a village, you should draw them forward and split them as everything else saps morale, supplies & time.
You will need to camp and rest for one day after your second war.
You should also rest for one day at the forced camp after the story about the ravens.
When the cart slides off the ridge you should tell Gunnalf to let it go and leave all the treasure there and again camp and rest for one day.
Once you reach the next Godstone you should leave the dead and their offerings alone, rest for a day and move on.
After the fight at the tower you should move on immediately but create a diversion by sending Mogr to fight.

Chapter 3 Random Events

"We were camped at the Godstone"- tell them the way to Strand is clear.
"I didn't join up to take orders from Hakon"- you should make your presence known but walk on, he will approach you later asking to be your bodyguard, you should give him one shot.
"Dredge rattling through the buildings below"-skirt the village.
"Fire in the trees"-it's not worth the risk, you should keep moving.
"Warriors disappearing"-get Mogr to question the ones who return, speak with Ludin, demand he turns over the loot then back down.
"We're being followed"-lose them.
"Dredge surrounding you deep inside the woods"-set the woods on fire with Yrsa to create a distraction.

Chapter 4 Storyline
By the beginning of Chapter 4 your morale should be running normal and you should be at day 54.
You should allow Onef to join you and make many trips to get all available supplies.
You should also buy all available supplies at Frostvellr before leaving.
Once you leave Frostvellr you are going to have to be on point with resting, your morale will drop to poor if you go 2 full days without resting, keep an eye on your meter and rest just before the days end.
You should rest for 1 day after leaving Frostvellr, again before the end of the following day and again after letting Ekill join your party (he will attack you, you should talk to him and let him join your party).
Once you reach the Godstone you should inspect it and move on, camp and rest the at the end of the following day and again before two more days pass.
Day 68 should see you reach Wyrmtoe where you should purchase all available supplies and rest.
Once you leave Wyrmtoe you should rest before the end of the second day and you should reach the Godstone by day 73.
Over the next couple of days if you get the "Frozen girl" random event you should stop the caravan for a rest and tend to the girl and use this rest day to reset your counter, if you don't get this random event then you will need to continue the 2 day cycle.
You should be able to make it to the next Godstone without resting and again to the next auto stop with no rest where you should buy all available supplies.
You should then make it to the Varl bridge without need of a rest, once you reach Einartoft where you should buy all the supplies you can afford and rest to forward the story.

Chapter 4 Random Events
"New baby"-congratulate them privately.
"Froze girl"-stop the caravan for a rest and tend to the girl.
"Poetry"-join in with a verse of your own.
"Men with broad shoulders"-give them a few days worth of supplies.
"Gods be damned"-you should fight the Brigands.

Chapter 5
For Chapter 5 you should just jump straight in and help Mender to destroy the bridge, this won't affect morale and has no bearing on the story.
There are no random events during Chapter 5.

Chapter 6 Speed Run
You will leave Einartoft on day 85 and march straight to Boersgard, this will take you 30 days.
Unfortunately you cannot keep morale high without resting so you will have to replay Chapter 6 once you reach Boersgard and unlock Forced March
You should not rest, go around past Haskup at the split in the road and at Sigrholm you should pay the locals to help you, apart from that you should just keep marching. You can use all your available renown to level up for the Onef fight.
The trophy will pop after the fight at the gate of Boersgard after Chapter 7 has started.
You should then immediately load Leaving Eintartof and the Long Road Ahead and continue to the next step.

Chapter 6 High Morale & Quartermaster
Once you restart Chapter 6 you are no longer any pressure so you should rest to get your morale back to good and rest every day or two to sustain it, you should also have more than enough supplies to last to Boersgard.
At Haukstrop you should go around the split in the road and at Sigrholm you should buy 10 days worth of supplies and pay the locals to help you.
At the first Godstone you should insist on taking the baby with you, at the second you should eat the berries.
You are no free to spend any renown on leveling up for the Onef fight and the last chapter.
At Reynvik you should keep going unless you are running low on supplies, if so help the Varl there.
Continue to rest regularly and follow the random events guide and you will have no issues maintaining normal/good morale.

Chapter 6 Random Events
"Blizzard"-no matter what choice you make morale will drop, so long you have it at good you should say a prayer for the missing and move on, if your morale is normal you will have to restart the chapter.
"Women arguing"-seperate them, this will result in a morale boost but it will come back to haunt you later.
"Outlaws"-send them away.
"Fire"-organize the peasants and they will save the supplies.
"Poor farmers"-let them join you.
"Stop a resolute voice calls from somewhere"-you should fight them.
"Umar the old man"-let him help for 20 supplies.
"Aulfrosta the frozen girl"- find a way around.
"Abandoned house"- check to see if its safe.
"Murder over a marriage"-banish mother & daughter.

Chapter 7 Storyline
Once you reach Boersgard you will no longer be able to rest, if you are running low on suplies just buy them at the market.
The quickest path to the end game from here is - find a safe place for the caravan to stay-set up in a public place; help the Ravens at the dock (gives a morale boost) & put Krumr in charge of the warriors. There is no need to help Iver to fight on the walls. This will see you through to Juno and the final fight with Bellower. Remember you only have to reduce Bellower's armor to 0 and hit him with the Silver Arrow, you can ignore his minions, also for the second phase you need only kill Bellower.
There are no random events in Chapter 7.

[top]
Shieldmaster
Defeat an enemy with a Shieldmaster.

This is Mogr, he is available to use during Chapters 1 & 3, however this trophy will not pop during Chapter 1.
He may leave forever at the end of Chapter 3 so get this done early.

[top]
Strongarm
Defeat an enemy with a Strongarm.

This is Griss, he will ask to join your caravan during Chapter 3.
He will not stay around for very long, depending on your decisions so get this as soon as possible.

[top]
Godstone Hadrborg
Visit the godstone Hadrborg.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Hadrborg during Chapter 4 shortly after the serpent earthquake episode.
You should inspect it to receive the Farthing Fjord treasure (level 4 +3 armor breach).

[top]
Warmonger
Fight 40 battles in a single playthrough.

By my reckoning there are a total of 53 fights available in a single playthrough so there is a fair amount of room for manoeuvre.
If you are following my roadmap and intend to gain enough renown and kills to achieve Master Tactician you are going to have to fight all of them up to mid Chapter 6.
Unfortunately there is no way to check how many battles you have fought in.
The second phase of War counts as a separate fight.

Godstone Denglr
Visit the godstone Denglr.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Denglr towards the end of Chapter 3.
Inspecting it yields no reward, while you are there you should leave the dead and their offerings alone.

Master Tactician
Win a battle on Hard difficulty in the camp Training Tent using 6 rank 5 units.

You should go for this on your first playthrough, simply change the difficulty to Hard before you enter the Training Tent.
The trophy itself is not difficult but you will have to manage your renown and spread out your kills to be in position to get it.
The Training Tent is located in your Camp, it allows you test battle strategies and will automatically match you against enemies of equal measure.
The Training Tent is no longer accessible once you reach Boersgard so you will need to get this before the end of Chapter 6.
At the start of Chapter 4 you should pick 5 heroes that you intend to fully level up.
I recommend Rook, Alette, Oddleif, Tryggvi and Iver who join your caravan fairly early and stay until the end.
You should also use Eyvind as he is already level 5 when he joins and will stay with you until the end.
Sigbjorn will join your party during Chapter 6 at Reynvik if you help him, he is also level 5 if you would rather use 2 Varl.
Fully leveling up 1 character costs 50 renown and takes 14 kills so make sure you are spreading the kills around your chosen characters.
If you have fought every battle, not spent any renown on supplies and spread all your kills around you should be able to go for this towards the end of Chapter 6.
You can enter and leave the Training Tent as many times as you like until you get a set up that you like the look of.
I recommend a map with enemies grouped together in corners as you should have one group finished before another can reach you.
Either way, it may take you a couple of goes but stick with it and you'll get there.

Spearmaster
Defeat an enemy with a Spearmaster.

This is Tryggvi, he will join your caravan as the start of Chapter 2.
He will stay with you throughout the game.

Godstone Radormyr
Visit the godstone Radormyr.

Your caravan will march past the Godstone of Radormyr the Sun God shortly after leaving Frostvellr during Chapter 4.
Inspect it to receive the Gullinfyri treasure (level 3 +15% chance to double strength damage).
