[top]Introduction

Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, where the Baron's Watch spreads a rising tide of fear and oppression, his skills are the only things he can trust. Even the most cautious citizens and their best guarded possessions are not safe from his reach.

As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict. Led by Orion, the voice of the people, the tyrannized citizens will do everything they can to claim back their City. Revolution is inevitable. If Garrett doesn't get involved, the streets will run red with blood and the City will tear itself apart.

[top]Tips & Strategies

Equipment
You will want to obtain a set of wirecutters, a wrench, and a razor as early as you can from a merchant as they will assist you in opening vents to secret locations and collectibles. I also recommend purchasing arrows but mainly the water and rope arrows as the rope arrows are needed to access certain locations and water arrows put out fires to assist you to sneak about.

Documents
You will need to open several safes throughout the game to obtain collectibles. The safe numbers are within the documents that you find. You can view all the documents via your menu.

Manual Saves
You can manually save the game at any time which will come in very useful in Master difficulty or unlocking some of the trophies as it will save you reloading chapters etc.

Light Gem
The light Gem, displayed in the lower left corner of the screen, indicates whether or not you are hidden in shadows and dark areas. When the light Gem is black, you are less likely to be spotted.

Focus Energy
To regain a portion of Focus Energy touch the touch pad to highlight Poppies in the inventory, then click the touch panel button to consume it.

Earning Focus Points
Donate gold to the Queen of Beggars to receive Focus Points. Use Focus Points to enhance your Focus abilities.

[top]Roadmap

I recommend playing the game on the lowest difficulty Rogue, so you can familiarize yourself with the game, outlay and the controls which will benefit you later on when you play on Master difficulty. Whilst in Rogue, opponents are weak and less aware also resources are low in cost and plentiful. Just go through the chapters, pick pocket guards, pick up any collectibles on the way but take your time to explore all areas and aim to complete the game in more than 15 hours. Once you have completed Chapter 6, I would recommend completing all of Bassos and client jobs before finishing off the last two chapters.

The True Master Thief

Unlock all of the below trophies to get this shiny new platinum.

[top]
Obsessive Compulsive
Steal all loot and collectibles in a single chapter

Chapter 1: Lockdown

I recommend attempting this on the first chapter as it only contains 60 loot items and 4 collectibles but this can be done on any chapter. The items are quite close together as it's a small map and you can press to use your focus vision which highlights loot and collectibles in blue. Items will be scattered everywhere so check all draws, lockers, safes, hidden routes and behind doors.

To view how many items you have picked up press and go to "Player Progression" and then "Statistics". If you miss an object you can walk back through the chapter areas or press and load up a chapter. The trophy will pop at the end of the chapter and not immediately after finding the last item.

Sleight of Hand
Pick 100 pockets in a single playthrough

You will notice guards with small brown pouches on the lower part of their backs. To pick pocket coins from a guard you will need to slowly sneak up behind a guard whilst crouched by pressing and then press to pick pocket them. Most guards will have just the one pouch but some guards will have two pouches, which will count as two if you pick pocket both. Pick 100 pockets in ONE playthrough and the trophy will unlock.

NOTE: To view how many pockets you have pick pocketed press then view "Player Progression", "Statistics" then "Overall".

[top]
Quickly Pick a Lucky Lock
Pick a lock with masterful speed

This trophy can be unlocked in the game on any chapter with a door that has 3 pins by using the below method:
space
  • Save your game before interacting with the door
  • Pick the lock and remember the correct combination, meaning the direction that your needs to be in
  • Before you unlock the third pin, reload your save game
  • You'll be back in front of the door and just need to enter the same combination as before.
  • Make sure you unlock the door in under 3 seconds and the trophy will unlock
space
NOTE: If you fail, you can reload your save game every time. If you've already opened the door shown in the video, you can return to the clock tower (your hideout) and it will get locked again.

Something to Prove
Finish the game with a custom difficulty of 700 points or more

This should be attempted on your new second playthrough by selecting "Custom" difficulty and can be done on any difficulty. The higher the difficulty, the higher score you will get so it's recommended to complete this on "Master" difficulty to stack with Hard Times trophy.

Using custom difficultly will add restrictions to your game play such as slowing your movement, no focus ability, no manual saves....The full list can be found below. The difficulty selected from the start will affect your final score so if your score a total of 700 points on Thief difficulty then it will be halved as shown below.

Legend in Leather
Complete 25 optional Thieving Challenges

To unlock this trophy you will need to complete 25 Thieving Challenges whilst playing the story mode or completing side missions and the challenges will also earn you some extra bonus gold. The challenges range from take downs, pickpockets, loot, remain undetected etc but I recommend going for the challenges in the side missions mainly as they are quick and easy. Remember you can't get the "Remain Undetected" and "Combat Takedowns" challenge at the same time so you need to select one or the other.

You can always check how many challenges you've completed via your journal > Player Progression > Statistics > and go through the tabs and you will see the challenges on the left hand side with "Completed" or "Fail".

The Thieving Challenges are divided into three separate sections as shown below:

Mint Condition
Finish 3 consecutive missions without taking damage

I recommend attempting this on your second playthrough on Master Difficulty as this playthrough is mainly about not getting spotted by enemies. You will need to complete three missions in a row without taking any damage to unlock this trophy. If you get hurt or injured during this playthrough just reload to your previous save and try again. I would recommend doing this early on with the easier chapters on Prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2.

NOTE: Prologue counts as a mission but this trophy can be attempted on any three missions as long as they are in a row.

[top]
Focus on the Tasks at Hand
Pick a pocket and a lock using the focus ability

Chapter 2: Dust to Dust

The best place to unlock this trophy is at the beginning of chapter 2. Firstly you must upgrade the Focus ability "Dexterity" to its maximum level and you can buy focus upgrades from the Beggar's Queen in the most northern part of The City. Once upgraded, head to the glowing gate around the corner to start Chapter 2 (can be replayed at the same location if you've already beaten it). In the beginning of chapter 2 is a guard with two pockets and a locked door. Activate focus vision and pick the guard's pocket, as well as the lock of the closed door and the trophy will unlock.

NOTE: You can then pause the game and click "Return to the City" to get back to the Beggar's Queen.

Moral Victory
Finish the game without a single kill or knockout

You will want to attempt this on your new second sneaking around playthrough without alerting anyone. You should have a good idea of the map and layouts from your first playthrough so use them wisely.

Few Tips:
  • Use manual saves as often as you can so you can reply from your last save
  • Keep an eye on your light gem to establish if your hidden or not
  • Use water arrows to extinguish fires
  • The enemy is alerted if the eye symbol above them turns fully red
  • Upgrade your sneaking around abilities
  • Press to move around whilst making little noise as possible

[top]
One Step Ahead
Disarm ten trap mechanisms

Whilst playing the game, you will come across traps that fire darts at you causing you harm. You will know if a trap is in the room by pressing which will highlight the traps in red along with the wire in blue that leads to the control box. To disarm a trap you will basically need to cut the wire within the control box by pressing on the box. Disarm ten traps and the trophy will unlock.

NOTE: You will need to purchase a pair of wire cutters to disarm the traps

[top]
Clear Headed
Reach the final chapter without using the focus ability

You can activate your focus ability by pressing which allows you to see hidden traps, loot , enemies etc and will glow blue or red. I recommend attempting this trophy on your second playthrough as you should have most of the trophies that needed the focus ability on your first playthrough and have a general idea of map layouts. Also you can use the "No Focus" option whilst in your custom second playthrough to guarantee you don't use it.

[top]
Hard Times
Finish the game on Master difficulty

You can play the game on Master difficulty from the start as it is automatically unlocked for you but it is the hardest difficulty so It's recommended you play on a lower difficulty first. In Master difficulty, enemies are harder to beat, you are easier to knockdown, resources and upgrades are more expensive and your focus doesn't last as long.

Tips:
  • Use manual saves as often as you can so you can reply from your last save
  • Keep an eye on your light gem to establish if your hidden or not
  • Use water arrows to extinguish fires
  • The enemy is alerted if the eye symbol above them turns fully red
  • Upgrade your sneaking around abilities
  • Press to move around whilst making little noise as possible
  • Avoid any confrontation

[top]
Modesty Denied
Score an epic 5,000,000 or more in a Challenge Map

The easiest and smallest map would be "House of Blossoms" in the "Chain & Gain" Mode. Start by stealthily knocking out / killing all guards on the entire map. Taking out guards will deduct some points at first, but in reality it makes the whole process a lot easier and is the key to success. The goal in this challenge mode is to collect all the loot in very quick succession. The quicker you collect everything, the higher your multiplier and the more points you will get. With all of the guards out of the way, you can focus on the loot and collect it without any disturbance. The loot always spawns in the same place, so you can remember the locations. Again, the goal is to collect all the loot quickly without losing your multiplier. Simply go in every room, use focus vision for a short moment to highlight all objects and pick everything up. Then move on to the next area until you have a chain count of at least 150. This will pretty much guarantee more than 5 million points, as long as you pick everything up quickly enough and maintain your multiplier. This should take you 18-20 minutes. Don't ever let your chain count break! It breaks if you haven't collected anything for a minute.

Once you've collected everything, go to the green door between the first and second floor. It will end the level and you will get a huge point boost for your high chain count. Before leaving you'll only have around 2 million points, but once you finish the map you'll more than double that due to the extra points. Also keep in mind that almost all guards carry pockets. So be sure to loot all of them (after taking them out).

Child of the Shadows
Finish a single chapter without alerting anyone

Chapter 1: Lockdown

This trophy can be unlocked on any chapter but I would recommend attempting this on the first chapter as it contains only a few enemies and it's the shortest chapter. You will want to stay crouched in the dark unlit areas of the map, don't shoot or knock out any enemies and press to dash out of the way if you get in danger.

NOTE: If the enemies symbol above their head turns fully RED then you will need to reload to your last save point in the game.

Hail of Glass
Shoot a bottle in mid-air with an arrow

You can find a bottle in Clock Tower Plaza of the open world in front of a shop called "Reynard's Coffeehouse" but you can find bottles in most areas. Before starting I recommend manually saving the game before throwing the bottle so you can reload to that point if you miss the bottle. Equip the bottle, aim into the air right above you and throw it. After throwing the bottle you have 1.5 seconds before it hits the ground so shoot an arrow when the bottle is close to hitting the ground. The closer the bottle, the better your chance of shooting it. You might also want to move around a little if standing still doesn't work for you.

NOTE: Try upgrading the speed of the bow to make this trophy easier.

Trophy Guide Video

[top]
Health Hazard
Kill or knockout 10 people using the environment

Chapter 3: Dirty Secrets

You need to kill ten enemies using the environment and this can be unlocked on any chapter where you can kill enemies by shooting exploding barrels, light fixtures, leaking pipes etc. The easiest and quickest way to unlock this trophy is on Chapter 3. After entering the brothel, go down the hallway on the right. There's a big machine in the middle of the room. That's the opium machine. It will knock out everyone in the entire brothel and immediately grant you the trophy. To do this you need to manipulate the machine with the wire cutter. In the same room is a locked door, pick the lock and you'll come to a room that leads to the area behind the opium machine. Open the panel on the wall and cut the wires. Now return to the room with the machine and pull the lever to knock everyone out.

NOTE: You can buy the wire cutter from any merchant in the City. Merchants are marked with a white bow & arrow symbol on your world map. You can replay this chapter at any time.

To unlock this trophy you will need to find all 82 collectibles from the main story and from the side missions. You will also earn 30,000 in gold for finding all the collectibles which will be very useful towards the Cache Dispenser trophy where you need to spend 40,000.

At the end of each chapter or side mission, you will be shown your statistics for that chapter/side mission and giving you the option to reply them if you want. You can also reply chapters by finding the reply point in on the maps. If you open up your journal via > Player Progression > Statistics you will be able to view how many collectibles/ loot items you found in the current chapter and how many there are in total. Also if you enter the "Collectibles" section, it will break down the collectibles into sections etc.

Happy Birthday
Sweet sixteen. Snuff said.

A very easy and simple trophy to unlock. Whilst roaming around, you will find lit candles where you are given the option to extinguish the lit candle by walking up to them and pressing . I recommend attempting this on the lowest difficulty on your first run of the game as it can lead to unwanted attention on Master difficulty. You just need to extinguish 16 candles and the trophy will unlock which personally unlocked for me in chapter two.

Hidden Agenda
Discover 15 secret areas

See Finders Keepers trophy for more details.

[top]
Finders Keepers
Discover all secret areas

There are a total of 73 secret areas and you will need to find all of them to unlock this trophy. You will know you have entered a secret area as you will hear a metallic sound in the background or you will see +New Map appear in the corner and in some cases you also need to interact with certain collectibles, objects or loot to trigger this.

The bad news is that the secret areas are not listed in the statistics and the game doesn't track how many you have already found. I recommend keeping a note of them as you complete each chapter as if you miss an area and don't remember which one it is, then you have to start all over again.

NOTE: I recommend saving the game manually every time you discover a new area in case you die before the game automatically saves as you might forgot to visit that secret area again.

Here's a breakdown of how many hidden areas there are per chapter:

Complete all Basso Jobs in The City

Basso will offer you 25 jobs and you will need to complete all of them to unlock this trophy. They are pretty simple, varied and they require you to visit different areas of the map to find collectibles and earn gold. The only challenge is working out how to gain access to the areas through windows, vents, hidden areas but you will need to use your focus ability to avoid traps etc. Once the job has been completed, you don't need to return and you will basically see a large green "Completed" come up on your screen.

All the jobs will not be available to you until you complete Chapter 6 as they are unlocked in sections as your complete certain chapters. You can complete the jobs as they become available or just wait until you complete Chapter 6 and do the jobs then. I recommend going through all the jobs and pressing on each job so that they are tracked on your map by a small white circle.

Chapter 5: The Forsaken

You will need to collect FIVE golden pocket portraits in this chapter to unlock this trophy. They are all pretty well hidden in the very beginning of this chapter and they are spread out both in the female and male ward. I recommend following the below trophy guide video to find all the items easily.

Uncover Lyegrove's secret

Chapter 1: Lockdown

Whilst in Chapter one, you will have to enter the jewellery store to steal a mask as part of the story and it will be highlighted on your screen via the white circle which you will have to follow. Firstly you will be required to pick a lock to steal the "Fake" jewelled mask from the draw. Secondly you will need to head downstairs, walk towards the painting on the wall next to the lit candle and move your hands around the painting until the white circle turns blue indicating you have found the switch. One found press and the painting to move upwards and you will find a safe that requires a code. Enter the numbers "739" from left to right as you look at the safe to unlock it to find the "Real" Lyegrove's jewelled mask. The trophy will unlock one you have both masks.

More Heist Less Speed
Finish the game in 15 hours or more

To unlock this trophy you must accumulate a total of 15 hours or more of game play in one playthrough and complete the game. You can leave your playstation on with your player hidden away in a safe area to accumulate the hours or just spend time looking for collectibles etc in your first run of the game as described in step one of the road map. If you complete the game in under 15 hours then just replay the last chapter and waste away the hours until you reach the required amount and finish off the game.

NOTE: You can check how many hours you have accumulated via the front main menu when you load up your game or via your menu whilst playing the game in your overall statistics.
