[top]Introduction

THIEF....older (PC)gamers may still remember the Thief-games, played by so many those days...
That's why, if i may give my own opinion, this game is very underrated, it deserves so much more credit.

Garrett, the Master Thief, steps out of the shadows into the City. In this treacherous place, where the Baron’s Watch spreads a rising tide of fear and oppression, his skills are the only things he can trust. Even the most cautious citizens and their best-guarded possessions are not safe from his reach.

As an uprising emerges, Garrett finds himself entangled in growing layers of conflict. Lead by Orion, the voice of the people, the tyrannized citizens will do everything they can to claim back the City from the Baron’s grasp. The revolution is inevitable. If Garrett doesn’t get involved, the streets will run red with blood and the City will tear itself apart.
Features

YOU ARE GARRETT, THE MASTER THIEF: Step into the silent shoes of Garrett, a dark and lonely thief with an unrivaled set of skills. The most challenging heists, the most inaccessible loots, the best kept secrets: nothing is out of your reach.

CHOOSE YOUR APPROACH: Leverage Garrett’s arsenal to take down guards with your blackjack, shoot one of your many arrow types or use your newly acquired focus abilities to manipulate the environment and outsmart your enemies. What kind of master thief will you be?

[top]Tips & Strategies

SAVE
You can save manually, use this to your advantage. Especialy in master- difficulty.
Also, everytime you step in a closet the game will be saved automaticaly. (If not in combat!)

STEALTH
It's a stealth/sneaker-game, so watch where you're walking, stay out of the light (or kill the light) and don't make any noise.
Pressing let's you crouch, use it alot, you will be harder to spot.
let's you shadowstep, step from one shadow into the other, without guards noticing.
Use Focus to spot potential hazards. It will light up any dangers ahead, allowing you to tread lightly and remain undetected.
There are a few common warning signs that a trap is nearby. Broken glass can often be found near snoozing guards or even common paths. Floor traps are normally found near wall paintings or safes. Keep an eye out for raised floor panels or control boxes. Spot either of those and a trap is probably nearby.
Thieves that steal and run away, live to loot another day. Whenever you're detected and guards begin to swarm, swallow your pride and flee to safety.

TOOLS / WEAPONS
Get the tools: wirecutters, wrench, and razor as soon as possible at a merchant.
Keep a constant supply of Rope, Blunt, and Water Arrows.
If you just can't get enough gold, feel free to replay any mission you've beaten. Simply return to the mission's entry point while exploring the City, and you'll have the option to play the mission all over again.

GOLD
There is a lot to steal in thief, but a lot of things, like inkpots, pens, forks, spoons do not have much value, so after you bought the tools and arrows, carefully think about which upgrades to buy. If you are short on money, you can always replay a chapter or a client job. That will grand you some extra gold.

[top]Cheats, Glitches, & Exploits

Nothing really important

[top]Roadmap

1st Playthrough
First play on "Rogue", (easiest), and enjoy the game, get familiar with the game and explore, get to know the area's.
Most important is to finish all side-quests before chapter 7 ! (Basso's & client-jobs).
Take your time, you DON'T want to do this within 15 hours.
This will get you most of the trophies.

2nd Playthrough
Open a NEW saveslot so you can play a new game on MASTER-difficulty.
BUT : you will have to adjust some difficulty settings too:
*Customize difficulty to 700+ points
And Finish the game without a single kill or knockout!

3rd Clean-up
eventually, you might have some trophies left on the way to your Man of Steal , use your Rogue (easy) saveslot to chapter-select and clean-up the last trophies. You can also do this before you begin your 2nd playthrough.

[top]Trophies

[top]
Man of Steal
The True Master Thief

As usual, get all other trophies to this.

[top]
Obsessive Compulsive
Steal all loot and collectibles in a single chapter

Use your focus vision by pressing to see all the loot and collectibles clearly.
The easiest to do on Chapter 1: Lockdown, because it has only 60 loot items and 4 collectibles,
But it can be done in any chapter.

[top]
Sleight of Hand
Pick 100 pockets in a single playthrough

In the game-menu (press ), go to "Player Progression" > "Statistics" > "Overall", to see how many pockets you've picked.
Some guards have 2 pouches, this will count as 2 !
To pick a pocket, crouch to a guard with and pickpocket him with

[top]
Quickly Pick a Lucky Lock
Pick a lock with masterful speed

Masterful speed is within 3 seconds...
If you are lucky or fast enough to open a lock with within 3 seconds you will get this trophy.

Otherwise, here's a trick to do it:

*1- SAVE BEFORE picking a lock
*2- Pick lock if it has 3 pins, but STOP at Pin 3
*3- Knowing the combination now, reload your saved game and pick the lock within 3 seconds.
VIDEO:

[top]
Something to Prove
Finish the game with a custom difficulty of 700 points or more

This trophy you will gain at the second playtrough (if you stick to the roadmap).
Rogue - x0.100 Thief - x0.500 Master - x1.000, choose master and some restrictions untill you reach 700+ points.

Restrictions:
Classic :

*Chapter Saves Only - OFF (save everywhere to avoid restarts or mistakes)
*No Focus - ON
*Stealth Takedowns Only - ON
*No Reticle - OFF (For the sake of 30pts just makes it easier to set up ropes and water arrows)

Legendary :

*Speciality Arrows Only - ON (No lethal arrows needed for this run)
*No Food or Poppies - ON (No damage should be taken or focus used)
*Zero Damage - ON (Again, same as before, no damage should be taken anyway)
*Expensive Rescources - OFF (Restock arrows for cheaper is a must)
*Slowed Movement - OFF (Just no)

Ultimate

*Iron Man - OFF (We dont want to be restarting the game now do we)
*No Upgrades - ON (You can still buy the wrench for 1000g and the wire cutter for 450g which is all you really need to stay stealthy)
*No Kills or Knockouts - ON (Helps with the trophy, and we dont need to be seen anyway)
*No Alerts - ON (Same as above, its not needed to be seen, just be wary of birds and dogs and be mindful of where the guards are)

Total : 725 points.

[top]
Legend in Leather
Complete 25 optional Thieving Challenges

In the game-menu () you can check journal > Player Progression > Statistics, to see how many challenges you've completed.
Every (side)mission has challenges which you can complete.
After completing 25 challenges, the trophy will pop.
My advice is going for the challenges in the side-missions on your first playthrough.
When a mission has the challenges: "takedowns" and "stay undetected", it IS possible to get them both, although it can be really tricky.
Use blunt/stun arrows and aim for their helmets, they will be stunned after which you can perform the takedown while still being undetected.

Check the spoiler for details :

Toggle Spoiler

Thieving Challenges are connected to how you've approached in completing a chapter, categorized into 3 types:

* Ghost - (No kills/takedowns, no alerts)
* Operative - (Silent takedowns, using the environment to lure distract guards, etc.)
* Predator - (Kills, enemies alerted and are aware of your presence, etc.)

So as you may have noticed it is sometimes impossible to get all the challenges in some missions at once.

[top]
Mint Condition
Finish 3 consecutive missions without taking damage

This trophy will probably pop up naturally in your second playthrough, as you're going for being undetected anyway.
Keep in mind it will have to be 3 chapters in a ROW, so you probably want to get this doing Prologue, Chapter 1 and Chapter 2. (easiest)
SAVE a lot, so you can reload when being detected.

[top]
Focus on the Tasks at Hand
Pick a pocket and a lock using the focus ability

At the "Beggar's Queen" in Chapter 2 you can upgrade your Focus-abilities, do this on "Dexterity".
Put Focus on by pressing
Close-by in chapter 2 is a guard and a gate, pickpocket the guard and unlock the gate with focus on during both actions.
It can be done in other chapters, but this one is the easiest: VIDEO

[top]
Moral Victory
Finish the game without a single kill or knockout

This trophy can also be gained at the 2nd playthrough, as we're going undetected.
Don't let the eye-symbol above the guards turn fully red! If so, you're spotted and you should reload your save.
So yes! Manual Save as often as necessary!
Other tips : Stay hidden, upgrade sneak/stealth to max and dim fires (water-arrows)

[top]
Clear Headed
Reach the final chapter without using the focus ability

You will get this trophy after your second playthrough, if you chose the restriction "no focus",
If you didn't, well, just don't press the entire game...

[top]
Hard Times
Finish the game on Master difficulty

Also gained in the second playthrough if you stick to the roadmap. Guards are tougher, but you want to stay undetected anyway. Upgrades are more expensive, so be sure to stick with the sneaking-upgrades. I can't say this enough : SAVE.

[top]
Modesty Denied
Score an epic 5,000,000 or more in a Challenge Map

In the main menu, choose the option "challenges", you will see 2 maps and you can also choose between 3 modes.
The easiest way to do this, is by choosing the "House of Blossoms" map and then "Chain & Gain"-mode.
The map is small and all you have to do is to keep stealing to keep your multiplier chain going.

There are guards in the area and i suggest to knock 'm out asap, this will give you a penalty, but after that it's so much easier to keep your chain going. Don't forget the guards pouches.
You don't need 5 million in the map, after exiting your score will be multiplied, so if you have around 2,5 million, you should be fine.

Child of the Shadows
Finish a single chapter without alerting anyone

You will most likely earn this trophy naturally because you want to be completing the story chapters by sneaking your way through all possible encounters on your (2nd playtrough) Custom Master difficulty run anyway.

An enemy will be put into alert status if the eye icon on top of their fills up 3 stars or fall into suspicion noted by a yellow eye icon on top of their heads.
Prevent this by staying in the shadows and putting out fires with water-arrows.

[top]
Hail of Glass
Shoot a bottle in mid-air with an arrow

Sounds simple... just throw a bottle in the air and shoot it with an arrow before it hits the ground...

Here's a tip by sabbath364
If anyone is having trouble with the Hail of Glass trophy, just max out your Speed upgrade with the focus points. Then when you throw the bottle use focus and it will slow it down giving you more than enough time to aim and hit the bottle
Thanks. Upgrading the speed of the bow also helps.

Health Hazard
Kill or knockout 10 people using the environment

As you may already know, you can use the environment to take down guards.
kill guards by shooting exploding barrels, dropping crates, leaking pipes

You can do this in any chapter, but the best place (where i got it) is in Chapter 3: Dirty Secrets
But you will need the wirecutters for this! Use the wirecutters to sabotage the opium-machine near the end. When it blows up it will take out most (if not all) the guards.
You can replay chapter 3 anytime.
Just follow the video of PowerPyx on how to do this:

There are a total of 82 unique loot items that you need to find.
They will be stored in your Clocktower and can not be sold, but collecting them all will get you 30,000G.
At the game menu > Player Progression -> you can cycle through each chapter to see which one you've missed.
Keep in mind though that if you do miss a collectible in any of the story chapters or client jobs, you will have to collect all of the collectibles in that mission again. Keep in mind though that completing all of Basso's jobs will involve you picking up some of these collectibles already.

Happy Birthday
Sweet sixteen. Snuff said.

How many candles do you think you'll have to put out during the game with to earn this trophy ???
Right, 16, a very easy trophy that you will probably be getting early in the game as it is adviced to put them out so you can stay in the dark.
Most rooms are lit with candles, there must be 100+ candles in the game. Be aware that sometimes a guard could walk up to the candles to light them up again.

Finders Keepers
Discover all secret areas

There are a total of 73 secret areas to be found in Thief.
Every time you enter a secret area, you should hear a metallic "chime" play in the background; serving as an indicator that you found a secret area.
Most of the time it will also say "+new map".

This can be one of the most time-consuming trophies in the game, because you will have to finish the chapter otherwise your found area's are hidden again.
Save everytime you've found one, 'cause if you die, it will be hidden again.
The game does NOT track how many secret area's you've found and the in-game maps do not help, due to horrible map-design.

As you can see this trophy can be quite hard to achieve, but i found some things for you to make it easier.

First of all, you can keep note of the tracks yourself by writing it down OR purchase the official Thief Companion App (iOS or Android)
iPhone : https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/thie...773239224?mt=8
Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...fcompanionfree
Keep in mind that the app only keeps track of the total amount of unique secret areas you have found; it does not tell you which one exactly you are missing.

Also, i found some thief maps that ARE useful, i collected them and zipped them together, you can download them (15MB) here : (spoiler)

If you have a VITA, copy the maps onto it so you can watch them while playing the game.

And here are the number of secret area's per chapter:
Prologue: 0
Chapter 1: 0
Chapter 2: 7
Chapter 3: 5
Chapter 4: 4
Chapter 5: 5
Chapter 6: 5
Chapter 7: 4
Chapter 8: 2
The City: 41 Total: 73

And last, but not least, for the visual gamers, a long videoguide by PowerPyx :

Use 40,000 gold by donating, upgrading and buying tools, trinkets and arrows in one save-file.
Merchants are found in The Crippled Burrick and/or The Siren's Rest,
but you will also occasionally run into them during missions/exploring, although they only sell resources.

To spend 40,000 gold, you will have to GET 40,000 gold, so start stealing!
Note that stealing all collectibles will give you 30,000 gold (see : What's Yours is Mine )

Working Overtime
Complete all Client Jobs in The City

There are 2 Clients, Ector and Vittori, both have 3 jobs for you, making a total of 6 jobs. Finish all 6 jobs to gain the trophy.
Everytime you finish a job, you'll have to return to corresponding client, before you can get a new job and to collect your gold of course.

These jobs are more like mini-stories, some even have puzzles, which are not that hard if you read the documents that you've picked up during the job. Although there might be one puzzle that could give you a headdache in the 3rd (last) job that Ector gives you (Heartbroken). Before you can enter the elevator you'll have to solve this puzzle by yourself, there are no documents about it. You'll have to turn stones to get in. These are the stones you must turn : 2-5-7-9-10.

Ector can be found in the north of the city and Vittori can be found at the docks.
These jobs also have achievements and collectibles AND they are also replayable like chapters, which can come in handy if you need some extra gold. Beneath in the spoiler are the maps of the jobs. But, like in a chapter, just follow the white marker to your next objective and you should be fine.

Uncover Lyegrove's secret

Ah, this is a nice trophy that gives you the real Masterthief-feeling, one of my favourites, note that you will probably get this while going for the What's Yours is Mine trophy, but still may need some explaining.

In Chapter 1: Lockdown, you will come across a jewellery store and you will hear the guards talking about the mask behind the window.
Now, you want that mask, so you go in and steal it, BUT your all-seeing Thief-eye can tell immediately that it's a fake!
So keep searching for the real one.

If you go downstairs you will find a painting with a secret button on it, after pressing the button you will find a safe. You will have to know the combination to the safe....It is written within the nearby closet :739
After you have both masks, the fake and the real one, the trophy will pop-up

Finish the game in 15 hours or more

Well, this is the reason why you have to take your time during the first playthrough, but don't worry, If you finish all client jobs, Basso's jobs and other side-jobs, you will easily be gaming this first playthrough for more then 15 hours.

But if you're fast and doubting about it, you can always check the hours played in the game-menu , or in the main menu at your save-file.

You can always keep your thief sitting on the roof, while preparing breakfast in bed for your partner in real life.
Just finish the game in 15+ hours to get this easy trophy.
