[top]Tips & Strategies

The Old Blood features the same great gameplay as in The New Order, with the addition of a new climbing pipe tool. This makes exploration a bit different, but the combat remains largely unchanged. While playing through the campaign, there are some things to keep in mind.
  • Be Stealthy when possible. It's always better to take your enemies out quietly than to engage in a massive firefight.
  • Take out enemy commanders ASAP. If alerted, they will call in reinforcements until killed.
  • Use the lean feature ( by default) to peek around cover and keep an eye on enemy movement.
  • Remain stocked up on armor when possible. It won't deflect all damage, but it will absorb most of it.
  • Low on health/ammo/armor? Look around for wooden crates and smash them open. They often have useful items inside.
  • Make every shot count. Like most shooters, a headshot is the fastest way to dispatch your enemies. Some heavy armor brutes will have a small tank on their backs, shoot this for a nice fireworks show.
  • Supersoldaten need a power source of some kind to operate. Whether this is a connection to a power rail or a glowing pack on their back, you can disrupt the power to force them into a kneeling position and take them down with from behind.

New to The Old Blood, there are 10 challenge maps from the 8 campaign chapters. Here you will be awarded points for various kills/chains/time spent. Once you complete the map, your score will be totaled and award you with a medal upon certain milestones. Some tips that may help in these possibly frustrating events are:
  • Use multiple weapons to earn kills, you'll receive bonuses from certain weapons.
  • Aim for the head. Headshots grant a nice bonus, as well as saving you ammo.
  • Throw back grenades when possible. If you kill an enemy this way, you'll stack a few point bonuses.
  • Throwing knife kills when hidden grant multiple bonuses, so use them when you can.
  • Try to chain multiple kills together in quick succession for a bonus score. The more kills you chain, the bigger your bonus.

[top]Roadmap

Wolfenstein The Old Blood acts as a midway point between the events of Beyond Castle Wolfenstein (from way back in '84, no less) and Wolfenstein The New Order. The Nazi war machine has begun to make extraordinary leaps in technology, and you mast hunt down the people in charge to prevent a German victory in the war.

Step 1: First playthrough and collectibles.
For this step, you'll want to pick whatever difficulty you are comfortable with and just play the game, all the while keeping an eye out for collectibles and Nightmare locations. While you play you are also very likely to get about half of the perks completed without even realizing it.

Step 2: Challenge rooms.

After completing each chapter, you'll unlock a score-based challenge room. You must kill all of the available enemies and reach a set score to earn a gold medal in each of the 10 rooms to earn their respective trophies. These will likely cause more stress than anything else in the game, but that shouldn't be too much trouble.

Step 3: Uber and cleanup

Like in Wolfenstein The New Order, The Old Blood's toughest difficulty is Uber mode. The enemies will shoot with deadly accuracy, and you can quickly be overrun. For those that may not be up to the task, a certain difficulty glitch from the first game has managed to sneak into the Old Blood as well, allowing you to complete the game on easy (pansy) and then simply play the final chapter on Uber to pop the trophy. From this point, go back and finish any missing perks, find remaining items, and pick the other person that needed saving back in Chapter 6. Congrats, you've done everything leading up to Wolfenstein: The New Order.

Simple enough, really. All you have to do is finish the game on any difficulty. See Über hero for details.

Complete the game on I am Death Incarnate! or Über for this trophy. See Über hero for difficulty details.

[top]
Über hero
Complete game on ÜBER

This is it. The big one. Über makes its return as the highest difficulty in the game, with a trophy for completing the game set to it to boot. Über is no laughing matter if playing legit, as even the most basic of enemies can kill you within seconds. Once you begin squaring off against the big boys, every encounter could be your last (until you respawn, that is.) Your battle through the Prologue and eight story chapters culminates in a huge boss battle below an ancient graveyard. Cheery place. There are some basic tips for victory that should help ease the transition between Easy and Über.
  • Be stealthy whenever possible. Alerting enemies allows them to home in on your position and surround you. It may be boring, but it could save your life.
  • Armor is a precious commodity now. Able to absorb much of the bullet damage you receive rather than take it directly out of your health, armor will be able to make the difference between failure and success.
  • Use the lean function to peek around obstacles and get a shot off without being seen. Also useful for watching enemy movements around corners.
  • Always be on the lookout for Commanders, notified by a Signal Strength pop-up in the corner that shows how close they are to you. Taking them out silently will prevent unwanted reinforcements from being called in.
  • Keep an eye out for wooden crates scattered around the levels. Smashing or shooting them often reveals goodies such as weapon ammo, and sometimes even health and armor! "Breakin' stuff's fun, right?"
  • Always aim for the enemy's weak point for massive damage! For most soldiers, this will be a simple headshot. For shotgunners, you'll want to aim for the explosive tank on their shoulders, as their heads are armored and take two sniper rounds to kill otherwise. Supersoldaten have one weakness: Their dependency on power. Either throw the overload switch near a power rail or shoot the glowing part on their backs to drop them into a takedown position for an finisher.
For the final boss, there is some new strategy to to think about. This giant rock golem has only one weak point: its large glowing green mouth. It seems like an easy task of just shooting its mouth until it keels over, but naturally, it fights back. Using either an overhead slam to crush you or a sideways swipe that you can duck under, the monster itself doesn't cause too much headache. The real threat during the battle is the waves of enemy soldiers that will drop down to shoot at YOU, completely ignoring the huge disgusting monster in the middle of the room (rude ). Carefully take these soldiers out while avoiding the monster's swipes and keep aiming for his maw. If you want a decent spot where you're relatively safe from his attacks, stay crouched near the top of the staircase to his right. If possible, use the Kampfpistole to attack, as the gas escaping from his moth appears to be flammable. Once he goes down for good, enter the room, kill Helga and pick up the folder. Now that you know the location of Deathshead's compound, it's time to fight for the freedom of the world!

*Helpful Glitch* Now for some good news if you can't seem to get around the difficulty by normal play. A glitch from Wolfenstein: The New Order has made its way to The Old Blood, either by a lazy developer or an intentional nod to the previous game. With this glitch remaining un-patched for the time being, all you have to do is finish the final chapter on Uber for the trophy to count! Simply use chapter select and choose Uber as the difficulty and you're set. As stated before, Uber isn't THAT bad, but the glitch is nice to have if you simply cannot beat the game normally.

Die, Grösse, die!
Complete all nightmare levels

Making their return from The New Order, BJ's Nightmare levels will be hidden in each chapter. When you come across an unmade bed, you'll have the option to sleep in it and have a nightmare. These nightmares are old Wolfenstein 3D levels that require you to find a key and fight your way to an elevator within the maze-like levels.

Powerpyx has recorded the locations, as well as the exit path for each of the nightmares below.

Research centre combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

This will be your first taste of the Challenges, unlocking during the Prologue. Use this area as a testing ground for the later levels, as many of the same strategies will be used throughout. Challenges are ambushes from the main storyline, and grant points based on how you take out the enemies. Your final score will only count if you survive the challenge, so be careful once you reach the desired score. The Gold score for this challenge is 11,300, which doesn't leave a ton of room for error, but there's enough that you should be fine (assuming you survive the level.) Keep moving and chain those kills for maximum points.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Prison docks combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

The second challenge map will be unlocked during your escape in Chapter 1. You'll start off in stealth mode this time around, so use that to your advantage. Go for throwing knife kills as they are 1 hit kills and can stack bonuses of Stealthy, Headshot, and Throwing Knife kills (200 each!) with each kill. More maximum points, take out all enemies except for the final commander and then alert him. This will call in reinforcements that you can kill for more of those crucial points. once done, head to the switch above the gate to open it, and unleash the final waves of enemies. Once you reach the target of 29,800, head to the boat and activate it to exit the map.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Keep foyer combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

Next up is the Keep's Foyer from early in chapter 3. You'll start by taking out the three enemies that unlock the doors on either side of the stairs. Next you'll want to throw the switch and start taking out the soldiers as they spawn. Don't move up to the next level until all enemies are down, or you may miss some spawns and a ton of precious points. When you finally reach the top level, you can either pick off the guards or mow them down with a detached turret (this method can rack up huge chain bonuses.) You'll need a score of over 24,500 for the gold medal here.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Cable car platform combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

This one can cause some headache if you don't pay attention. Start off by taking out the Supersoldaten ASAP, as he can kill you within seconds with his gatling gun. Once he's taken care of, start systematically taking out the remaining guards and reinforcements with headshots. Once the commanders are all that remain, take them out and make your way to the office and pull the switch. Now you only have to worry about hitting the minimum gold score of 26,600 and then throw the switch in the cable car to exit the challenge.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Caves combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

On to the next one we go... You'll once again start in stealth mode, so take out a few enemies with knives to get some nice bonus points. Proceed to take everyone out except for the commanders, as you'll need his reinforcements to be called in. Take out the rocket drone as soon as you see it, as your run will end quickly with it in the air. Once everything is dead/destroyed, climb the wall up to the next section. Begin killing the soldiers on the winding path up to the turret on the top level, but be careful not to stay in his line of fire. Once you take them all out, use the minigun up top to spawn two enemies at the bottom of the slope. Kill them and then prepare for the Supersoldaten around the next corner. Deal with him and the commander and then take out the two drones that drop in. Head to the elevator but don't press the button, enemies will begin to spawn in across from you. If you keep getting headshots, you should have no issue reaching 26,900 for the gold.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Paderborn bridge combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

Sniper's dream ahead. You star off repelling a wave of around 20 enemies and 2 snipers on the first part of the bridge. Once downed, restock on ammo and armor (there's a +50 armor in the room to the right of the center room) and proceed to unlock the door via the window. Once inside, grab the armor and head up through the roof vent. Drop into the next area and take down the two drones and the shotgunners. Once all enemies are dead, a Supersoldaten will climb over the trucks and begin shooting. Take him down and grab his weapon, you'll need it. A Panzerhund will knock the trucks aside and begin hunting you down. Mow him down before he can get a good swipe in, or it's all over. Once dead, step back from the explosion and begin your final push. Take out all of the enemies and then climb the ladder on the left to exit. Your required score for gold this time around is 22,800.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Wulfburg square combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

This is the last of the "normal" challenges. Yet again you start out in stealth mode, so use that to your advantage and get a few silent knife kills in before turning your attention to the two elephants in the room: two Supersoldaten! You'll want to take these bad boys out ASAP or risk getting wrecked. Once downed, focus on the reinforcements and go to town with your sniper. Once everything is dead, head up the ladder and kill the remaining commander and exit the level. The gold requirement of 17,600 may be a bit tricky if you don't get any headshots here.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Workshop combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

Here's where it gets weird. You start off in the workshop you saved Kessler in under heavy fire from multiple soldiers. As you start taking them out, you'll notice that many of them die only to resurrect as flaming zombies. No, seriously. This gives you a small window of time for a second kill, provided you get to them before the soldiers do. Be careful with the two shotgunners later on, as the close range nature of the room can shred you. Once they are all dead, run up the stairs to exit. Your gold score is 17,200 or higher this time around.

*Note*
This Challenge will only be unlocked if you chose to save Kessler in Chapter 6!

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

See Graveyard combat master for a video walkthrough.

[top]
Bathhouse combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

Almost there. The next challenge places you in the bathhouse from when you save Annette. Like before, killing some soldiers will respawn them as zombies, granting a secondary kill if you get to them first. The enemies tend to swarm you on this map, so try to find a decent spot and start mowing them down. As usual, watch out for close range shotgunners. Once done, run upstairs to exit. The gold score is about the same as last time, at 17,100.

*Note*
This Challenge will only be unlocked if you chose to save Annette in Chapter 6!

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

[top]
Graveyard combat master
Achieve gold medal for this challenge map

And we arrive at the final Challenge. We're back in the graveyard from chapter 8, with the potential for even more zombie enemies ahead. Take out the first two soldiers ahead and prepare for the onslaught of reinforcements that will be called in.Take out any shotgunners via their shoulder tank to turn them into makeshift bombs that will catch other nearby enemies in the blast. Once they're all down, take out the commanders. You may be tempted to just run to the exit now, but don't. There are more enemies in another graveyard across the chasm. Head around and drop into a small crypt to spawn the new enemies. They tend to bunch up along the left side balcony, so use grenades or the Kampfpistole if you have them. Once the enemies are dead, make your way to the electrified gate to exit the level. Your required score in this final challenge is 28,800.

*Reminder* Always make sure the difficulty is set to I Am Death Incarnate! or higher, or the highest grade of medal you can earn will be silver!

Collect 64 gold items

Gold items make their return from The New Order as collectibles hidden throughout the chapters. Unlike the previous (or is it subsequent?) game's unique golden items, they are now identical piles of gold ingots. There are 8 hidden in each of the non-prologue chapters for a total of 64. To make your hunt easier without using a video or written guide, you can work towards unlocking the Eagle Eye perk, which shows all collectibles on your map when pressing . For a full video walkthrough , see the Collectibles section near the top of the guide.

[top]
Eagle Eye
Unlock the Eagle Eye perk

Earning this perk is enormously helpful for finding all gold and letters, as it shows all of them on the world map. To get it, you'll need to silently take out 20 enemy commanders. You can either work on this as you progress through the campaign, where you will easy find 20 commanders to kill (within the first few chapters even). Or you can utilize a method from the first game and reload the checkpoint after each kill. This is much faster, especially with a commander right after a checkpoint late in Chapter 1.

[top]
Health upgrade I
Unlock the Health upgrade I perk

Easy enough, managed to get this one without trying. You simply need to overcharge your health to 200. Look for the large green health pickups that look like first-aid bags. There is a spot in the Prologue to earn this and the subsequent two trophies. Once in the castle, you'll come to a room with two enemies on patrol. Once downed, you have to use the radio. Before doing that, look around the room for the small 20 HP health packs. There are enough to reach 300 total, so this shouldn't be an issue.

Earning this perk allows you to begin work on Health upgrade II.

[top]
Health upgrade II
Unlock the Health upgrade II perk

Much like Health upgrade I, you'll need to overcharge your health, this time to a whopping 250. Luckily, you can earn this in the same radio room as the first trophy by finding all of the health packs that are crammed into every nook and cranny. If you pick up every possible health pack, you should have well over 300 health.

Earning this perk allows you to begin work on Health upgrade III.

[top]
Health upgrade III
Unlock the Health upgrade III perk

For this perk, you'll need to kill 5 enemies while your health is overcharged. Thankfully, this doesn't need to be done on a single overcharge, being cumulative instead. If you want to get this over with quickly, you can load up on all of the health packs in the Prologue's radio room and then use the radio. About 10 enemies will spawn in at this time, and with over 300 health, you should have no problem getting the five necessary kills.

[top]
Armor upgrade I
Unlock the Armor upgrade I perk

For this perk you must locate 100 helmets. Helmets are small armor items (+5) that can be found almost anywhere. On tables and shelves or inside crates. the most important place you can find them is by shooting one off of an unsuspecting Nazi soldier.

Earning this perk allows you to begin work on Armor upgrade II.

[top]
Armor upgrade II
Unlock the Armor upgrade II perk

For this perk, you need to overcharge your armor to 200. Small armor items won't be of much help here. You'll need to look out for multiple body armor pieces that are close to one another to even have a chance. Near the start of Chapter 3, there is a good spot to get this as long as you don't pull the lever to open the door and have near full armor after the small battle. There will be a few helmets in the control room as well as a +75 armor. In a small room to the left, there is a +50 armor waiting to be picked up. If you are fast enough, you should be able to grab them all and hit +200 total. If not, return to the lever and pull it. Head through one of the now unlocked doors and look for another set of armor on a step nearby.

Quick video guide for this method.

[top]
Ammunition upgrade
Unlock the Ammunition upgrade perk

For this perk you'll need to begin using dual-wield weapons. The main three types that you can find are pistol, assault rifle, and shotgun. Simply select one of these types from the weapons wheel and go to town on the enemy. If you stick to this method, you should earn the trophy before the halfway point of the game.

[top]
Grenade belt
Unlock the Grenade belt perk

This one may be a bit tricky. You'll need to take out 3 enemies with one grenade explosion for the perk. Obviously you'll need to find at least three enemies grouped together when throwing grenades, so keep an eye out for possible group spawns. To improve your chances of success, try to get them grouped into a tight area like a hallway so they can't escape the blast. Near the end of Chapter 3, there is a door that opens up above the lab that contains 3 enemies in a small room. If you time it right, you cam toss the grenade in and kill them all at once for the trophy.

[top]
Vampire
Unlock the Vampire perk

For this perk it's time for some takedown kills. 25 to be exact. To perform a silent takedown, sneak up behind an enemy and press to stab him/beat him with the pipe. If needed, you can farm this by reloading the checkpoint after you earn the kill.

[top]
Kampfpistole ammo storage upgrade
Unlock the Kampfpistole ammo storage upgrade perk

The Kampfpistole is essentially a rocket pistol. As suck, it will take out most enemies with a single shot, as well as dealing explosive splash damage to those nearby. Due to the overpowered nature of the weapon, ammunition for it is understandably scarce. Try to aim into groups of enemies to get the most use out of every shot. Once you get 50 kills, the perk and trophy are yours.

[top]
Schockhammer clip upgrade
Unlock the Schockhammer clip upgrade perk

This is the Old Blood's shotgun. You will first see these on heavy troopers in Chapter 2. Like most shotguns, up close blasts will be absolutely deadly for enemies, so feels free to go Rambo if you wish. 50 kills will go by in a flash.

Recommended range: Close.

[top]
Bombenschuss clip upgrade
Unlock the Bombenschuss clip upgrade perk

This is the game's sniper rifle. When you first pick up the weapon, you will be restricted to iron sights until you find the scope later on. Even with this handicap, it should be a simple task to rack up 50 kills with it. It is a one shot kill for most enemies, even the heavy shotgun troopers.

Recommended range: Mid-Long.

[top]
Carry heavy machinegun
Unlock the Carry heavy machinegun perk

The heavy machine gun can be found in various places throughout the story. Most of the time it will be mounted to a stand or vehicle, but others you can find on defeated Supersoldaten (those big mofo's with the powerpacks/rail connection). When mounted, the weapon has unlimited ammo and increased accuracy. When un-mounted, it will have a maximum of 250 shots before it runs dry. You can refill it by re-mounting it and then dismounting again. During Chapter 7, there is a good spot to farm kills as there are numerous respawning enemies (about 50 or so) that you can kill and then restart the checkpoint. 200 will stack up in no time at all.

[top]
Reload mash
Unlock the Reload mash perk

For this perk you'll need to make 20 kills with the final bullet in a clip. You'll likely get this through normal play, but there are ways to speed things up if you wish. You'll want to pick a weapon with a small clip, like the pistol or shotgun. Fire away until there is one shot remaining and then kill an enemy with it.

[top]
Quick turn
Unlock the Quick turn perk

Another perk that you should get through normal play, especially on Uber. When behind a corner or crouching below a wall, hold and move around the object to peek out and aim at an enemy. Kill 50 in this manner to unlock the perk and the trophy.

[top]
Tough Skin
Unlock the Tough Skin perk

You will not be able to begin work on this perk until at least Chapter 6. During the events of this chapter, new enemies arrive that can e dispatched with a swing of your pipe. Aim for the head to splatter them and make progress on the perk. You only need 10, so this shouldn't cause too much trouble.
