Hello, and welcome to the first of the GDT birthday mini-comp-wildfire august. The other members and I have extrabulated and circumforensiated (whatever that means) a competition each for you to enjoy and win stuff. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to give yourself hardcore training and testing of your grey matters, by solving tricky and devilish riddles. These riddles will not only test your logic, but your googling skills as well. This is not a quiz for the lazy, since these brainwranglers can take time, which is why you get a whole month to solve them. And who knows, maybe I will help you get a clearer image of the solution. How does it work? What can I win? How can I f**k it up? The answer to all of those questions (and more) is in the Q&A below.
Q: First of all... is this going to be hard?
Q: Second of all... what can I win?
A: The first place winner of this competition receives a 20 dollar PSN gift card! Wouwzaa.... The winner also receives an additional entry to the PS4/Xbox One bundle price for GDT's giant competition, which you can check out here Do it... now!
The second place winner gets an additional entry to the PS4 bundle in the competition.
The third place gets an additional entry for the Xbox One bundle in the competition.
Q: Third of all... Can I enter?
A: Sure you can! The only requirement is to be a member of the site. Durance of activity on the site or post count does not matter. You can make an account right now, and still be part of the competition.
Q: With that out of the way... How does this work?
A: The game is semi-simple. Further below this thread is a bunch of riddles. These riddles each have answers (obviously). PM me the answer and you will get letters for a hangman, which is further down below. The hangman leads you to a location where the secret password is. The first one to PM me that password... wins! To completely fill out the hangman you need to answer all 15 riddles correctly.
Q: 15?!?!?! But there is only 6 and 15 is too hard!
A: We start out with 6 and every week 3 more will be added. That means that 3 will be added the 7th, the 14th and the 21st, totaling 15 riddles. You do not need to solve all 15 to be able to solve the hangman. I reckon you can do it after solving 6-10.
Q: Any rules?
Yes. Please read and follow them.
Q: When does the competition start?
- Under no circumstance can answers, hints, processes or hangmans be posted in this thread or any other thread or forum. If I catch you do it, you will be disqualified... even if you're wrong. Any answers to that riddle prior such outburst will be invalid, and the riddle will be replaced by a spare riddle. So please... don't do that, you will ruin the fun of the game.
- Please, do not share your hangman or answers with anyone, via PM or an external chat site. I can't regulate it and it will ruin it for everyone.
- It is okay to say how many and which riddles you have solved... as long as you do not break rule 1 and/or 2.
- Teaming up is okay, but you have to internally split the prize. The giftcard will come as 1x 20 dollars and not 2x 10 dollars. If you want it otherwise you'll have to talk to GDT, and he may not be compliant. Also if someone "betrays" you and gets the answer right without letting you get some of the prize, it's under your own responsibility and I will not provide any help.
- Have fun!
A: ....Right around now.
Q: How long will the competition last?
A: The competition will stop the night of 30th of August here in Denmark, or when three people PM's me the password. If there is at the 30th no winner, the winner will be the one closest to finishing the hangman. If there is more than one leader, the winner will be determined by a small tiebreaker competition. What that tiebreaker competition contains will be determined by how many leading parties there are.
Q: Will we ever get the answers?
A: After the competition is over, all the riddles and answers will be displayed, following a brief explanation on how you get to that answer.
Q: How do I sign up?
A: No sign ups are required. As soon as you send in a correct answer to a riddle you're in my personal list of people who have one correct answer. If you answer two you are in my list of people who have solved two riddles, etc.
"The secret password can be found in the user description of Gyro's Youtube Page "TheGyrocop"".
The secret password was: "GDT needs cake"
Puzzle 1: It's elementary, my dear Watson
If you scramble the letters of each word (scrambled eggs) you get rhodium, uranium, barium and rubidium. These are all elements of the periodic table (hence the title). If you put the abbreviated letters from the table into a line you get RhUBaRb.
Puzzle 2: Two-fold
This one uses binary code. The lit bulbs are "1" and the unlit is "0". Translate that into text (via a binary translator on the internet) you get beard. Sarwan has the longest beard. Two-fold is another word for binary.
Puzzle 3: Meet your maker
The ":text:" refers to the site smileys. It represents a game each, Mario, Castlevania, Guitar Hero, Sonic, Final Fantasy, and Mass Effect. "Meet your Maker" refers that you need the companies who made these games. That is Nintendo, Capcom, RedOctane, Sega, Square Enix and Bioware. Put those where they fit into the rows of question marks and the letters from the boxes contains "Paradox".
Puzzle 4: The good, the bad and the h-less
The title is an incentive to remove the "h" from sherif, so it becomes serif, which is fonts that has "feet". If you only take the fonts with feet from the title you get "Lutraphobia" which is the fear of otters.
Puzzle 5: Look out below!
The white spaces represents the square keys on your keyboard (hence the title). Following the lines and dots it spells Organ.
Puzzle 6: Family Classics
These are Disney classics. They all get a number defining them as such. Replace the titles with the numbers and you get coordinates to Cook Street in Dublin, Ireland.
Puzzle 7: Meet your Maker II
Merge the 4 images together so all of the green spaces are on one board. It will create the image of a Space Invader, which is made by Taito Corporation. Take the letters with the red-marked underline and scramble them into airport.
Puzzle 8: Alphabetical Measurement
In the Dishwasher
My personal favourite. The measurements of the room indicates what letters you need to use from the name of the room (I.e. 45 of living room = i n). Do that for every room and put the letters in the order below and you get the phrase.
Puzzle 9: Our Saving Grace
Simply just save the image to your computer and read the filename.
Puzzle 10: Harsh Criticism
The grey background and the title refers to the Review Team. The other titles have been reviewed by the other members. The only one not represented is Faust.
Puzzle 11: Fruity Flavour
The image of accessories refers to the type of fruit called "accessory fruit". The only four accessory fruits in that list are, Apple, Watermelon, Pineapple and Strawberry. Mix the underlined letters and you get Brainstorm.
Puzzle 12: Triple Mono
What movie is this?
Three different codes. Each mono alphabetical. The first one is monalphabetical substitution. It spells Golden Retriever. Best explained by this:
The second is morse (you should know that). It spells Famous.
The last one is a simple word code. Take the last letter of the first pair and the the first letter of the first pair and work it all the way through. It spells Basket ball. You're left with: "Golden Retriever becomes Famous by playing Basketball" which is the plot of Air Bud.
Thanks for Playing!
