Who didn't see this coming?
WSJ: New PlayStation to stream PS3 games | JoystiqThe next PlayStation will be able to stream PlayStation 3 games, according to unnamed sources "familiar" with Sony's plans. The claim comes from a new report published by theWall Street Journal, and suggests that online streaming of current PS3 games will be paired with new games sold on optical media through regular channels.
Sony's cloud service hinges on its $380 million acquisition of streaming company Gaikai, which was announced last year. If the PlayStation 4 houses architecture different enough from the PS3 to preclude effective backwards compatibility, streaming may be pitched as a solution.
Sony's official word on the matter is expected during the PlayStation event next week on February 20.

smartest idea for backwards compatibility.
You won't have any software issues when running a game from a ps3 compared to when you use a emulator chip on your console.
the xbox 360 has backwards compatibility but some xbox games are incompatible.

Total Awards: 16I hope this is true as it means people would be able to trade in their old PS3's to help pay for the PS4.

i dont buy new systems to play old games,so i could care less about backwards compatibility, streaming games doesnt interest me much either, wouldnt want to deal with the input lag.

If this becomes true then I just might get a PS4. I was thinking of getting a Vita on a trade-in with my PS3 since Vita games are cheaper.

So streaming it from the PSN? So won't that mean physical copies would be obsolete? Thus paying for games at a higher price?

Too bad for us who lives where internet speed sucks.

This is fantastic! It also means no memory (for games) will be used up, as it's a Cloud service xD And I can finish off all of this Gen's games. I doubt the XBOX 720 will allow for this to happen; it will pull off for Sony, making their many millions of pounds of losses in order to have Gaikai for next-gen, beating their rivals. This, combined with the new, now 'grippable' and amazing controller, and the stronger hardware, means that A) the PS4 will be fucking spellbinding, and B) it will beat all it's other rivals, which I'm sure all of us here want

Not sure how I feel about this? I mean how much of the PS3 library will be on this service? And what if I end up offline?
Seems a bit of a pain in the ass really!

What about those with poor internet speeds? i hope this fails. Miserably.

I doubt anybody would want to see either Nintendo or Microsoft go out of business no matter how much of a 'fanboy' they may be to Sony. If those other competitions went out of business Sony would have a monopoly and that would drive up the price on all games and consoles for the future since competition is what lowers prices.

Total Awards: 11I agree with theses. I know it may be the way of the future of gaming, but fuck that noise. So all the hard copy games I have better be fucking free to stream or this is bullshit. I'm not going to pay twice for a game (besides the HD treatment shit, I support that)
I don't care for this idea one bit

Total Awards: 9agree with daft, hope i can still play the games i have now instead of paying for them again, but unles the ps4 is under $300 ill probably wait a couple years until it is before i buy it since sony and third party developers will still support the ps3 for a couple more years, just like happened with the ps2

Total Awards: 6Seems like the best solution in regards to a cheaper way of doing things backwards compatibility wise and if Sony did it right, a service included in Playstation Plus not unlike Netflix but for old games.
I'd like to think i'd have played all i want to play on PS3 by the time i grab the next gen but be nice to have some way of mopping up if i didn't.

It'd be better if Sony released two SKU's one with PS3 emulation and the other without. But have both have PS3 streaming accessibility. I would use the streaming, but I have a bloody huge PS3 library and I import a lot of games...
Also, I've heard this Gaikai is coming to the vita as well...

Total Awards: 14This news is still on "rumor" level.
It could be kinda cool, not having to waste space. I just hope Sony doesn't fuck it up.
