I don't know if I think the streak should never end, but it definitely shouldn't go to Punk.
I could see the WWE pulling a swerve somewhere way down the line, and by down the line I mean 3-5 years from now after the Taker has retired, and is done, they could have a Wrestlemania along with his HOF induction at ohhhh... some giant super stadium in Texas, and have him do some mic work only to have him get jumped by some up and coming heel, and have him force a referee to make the count as The Deadman is blindsided. It could be a major way to get some heel super over, with having a really silly "only in pro-wrestling" loophole end the streak. This is the type of thing I would expect from Vince McMahon.
Punk gains nothing from ending the streak, except some banter material for a couple weeks until whoever his next feud is against, sweeps in and challenges him and it becomes just another line to his heel stature. (and I seriously doubt Punk is gonna remain a heel for the rest of his WWE career). The payoff in the long term in exchange for the buy rates it could generate wouldn't be worth the trade.
