Rockstar Debuts Max Payne 3 With 'Design and Technology' Video Series

Rockstar have begun rolling out another brilliant video series, this time for their next big title, Max Payne 3. This trend started back with Red Dead Redemption, and then followed up with Team Bondi's title, LA Noire earlier this year. As usual, they bring a great insight into the game. They've named this series 'Design and Technology'.

This new video is the first of a five part video series, in which Rockstar will demonstrate the detailed technological aspects that make up Max Payne 3's stunning gameplay. The first video, titled 'Creating a Cutting Edge Action-Shooter,' goes on to show what you'd expect from the name; Intense Firefights, Brutal Gore, and slow motion which would put a smile on John Woo's face.

But it's not all about the Action. This 4 minute video will show you the more impressive technical aspects of the game as well, such as the smooth, responsive targeting mechanics, life-like movement and animation, and the impressive AI intelligence that Rockstar have brought to the table.

Talking along the lines of enemy AI, every NPC in the game will react differently in combat scenarios, depending on whether they're an untrained street thug, gangster, or highly trained special forces. Every character type comes with its own set of animations with everything from how they react to bullet wounds, or simply taking cover.

The Bullet Time mode has also received a lovely makeover thanks to Rockstar's RAGE engine, and Natural Motion's Euphoria. Other little details include Max bracing for impact after he jumps, and the new slow motion effects. This is just the icing on the cake. Check out the first part below.

Max Payne 3 is slated for release in March 2012. Mark your calenders.

Mr. Kojima Confirms Metal Gear Solid 5

Hideo Kojima is returning behind the wheel for the next installment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise, Metal Gear Solid 5. Kojima is revealing the first details of MGS 5 and more information on 'Project Ogre' in Issue 65 of PlayStation Magazine - UK.

Issue 65 of PlayStation Magazine - UK, will be coming out on November 29th but no doubt the interview will also be posted on the internet for all to see. Mr. Kojima will also be giving his opinions on the first PlayStation MGS title that he has not written or directed, Metal Gear Solid: Rising but of course the main thing we will be interesting in is what information he releases about Metal Gear Solid 5.

The first time in 16 years that PlayStation Magazine has put a developer on it’s cover

What are you thoughts on where the story will be taken in Metal Gear Solid 5? With the majority of questions answered in Metal Gear Solid 4, will the game feature Solid Snake? Or will it be about Big Boss? Maybe even someone completely different...

News Update

Last week we all got excited to hear that Mr Kojima has plans on making Metal Gear Solid 5...well today we find out that everyone might have blown his 'announcement' out of proportion, here's a quote with the new information;

In reality, Kojima and his studio haven't even begun work on the game yet, though it'll likely happen somewhere down the road. “I think we’ll probably have to make it at some point," Kojima observed "but what that will be, we have no idea.”

And if the game does get made, Kojima might not be involved in the way he has in the past. “As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won’t be as much as it was with MGS1 – maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on – that level I can’t do again.” Of course, there's a lot of leeway between designing every level himself and doing nothing, so there's still a solid chance that he'll wind up in the director's chair once more.

So there we go, looks like we kind of got excited for nothing, sorry about that. At least we do know Kojima does intend to produce the game in the future but that future could be quite a few years down the line...

Starbreeze Studios Working on a PSN Title

Starbreeze Studios, the Tier 1 Team behind titles such as The Darkness and The Chronicles of Riddick, and their next main title being Syndicate, working alongside the big dogs at Electronic Arts. But this isn't the only title they are working on, as they are hard at work with an unannounced PSN title as well.

This revelation was unveiled in an interview at CVG with the CEO of Starbreeze, Mikael Nermark. And while he didn't spill any details for the title, he said that the self-funded project is in development right now, and PS3 Gamers will be able to get their hands on it in the near future. He also discussed how they are needing to change their strategy with smaller, downloadable titles, as they are usually focused on large projects.

Developers have to understand how to utilise the new medium, so to speak, and understand that we have to build a game for the PSN instead of trying to do a big game.

I think that’s the hardest part for us – to adjust when we’re doing the small stuff. Because as a studio, we think big.

We can’t be that big when we’re making a PSN game. A big game can be anything between 120-200 staff, whereas a small project is one tenth of that, so you have to be able to understand how you handle your resources.
Starbreeze Studios have an impressive track record, with some great titles under their belt. What would you like to see come out of their new project?

Saints Row: The Third PS3 Bonus Unveiled

Saints Row: The Third released on Tuesday this week in the United States, and will be coming out on Friday in Europe. The exclusive bonus content in which Playstation 3 gamers were meant to receive was found to be missing on the disk, with both console versions being identical. THQ have now brought the dark into the light.

The bonus was revealead yesterday by THQ. If you are a SR3 owner from the United States, Canada, or Mexico, you will receive a free digital copy of the previous title in the franchise, Saints Row 2, which released back in 2008. No word on a European bonus yet, but there should be something explained on that soon.

To get a slice of the action, and be granted access to the title, all you have to do is redeem the online pass code included with every new copy of The Third within 90 days of the game's release, which pans out to February 13th 2012. Plenty of time to catch up on the 2nd installment.

There's no doubt that this wasn't the original planned exclusive content, as it was supposed to be an exclusive mode of some sort. Ofcourse, this isn't the first time so called exclusive bonus was meant to happen, but didn't. Something similiar happened with Battlefield 3, as PS3 Gamers who picked up a new copy were originally going to get Battlefield 1943 included, but that has now turned into getting the expansion pack 'Back to Karkand' a week earlier than everyone else.

Those who haven't played Saints Row 2 yet could see this as a nice deal, but if you have played it already, or just didn't want to, then this could be a disappointment for you. What do you think?

Enter Ninja Master Thief Rioichi Cooper

President of Sanzaru Games Glen Egan gives Sly Cooper fans a little insight into what is new in the highly anticipated upcoming Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time. The Sly Cooper games so far have been revolved around the Cooper Gang more than the infamous well known Cooper Clan that only gained more thieving reputation throughout its' history up to the time of Sly himself. That unknown history while pondered through a bit in cut scenes and dialogue in the past games still has so much untapped potential in terms of story development. What were the ancestors of Sly like? How did they perform their heists? What is it like to use each of their different cane weapons? Fans have so many questions about the Cooper ancestors that are yet to be answered and Glen Egan is here with those sought after answers to the mysteries that make this Clan so intriguing.

Meet ninja master thief Rioichi Cooper of the Cooper Clan from the era of Feudal Japan. The mastermind behind the Ninja Spire Landing. When he was first introduced in Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus he was nothing more than a ghostly image of a dark figure hiding in the shadows between the pages of the Thievius Raccoonus and an accompanying script provided Sly the tutorial for Master Rioichi's entry in the book. But despite all that there was never any real interaction between Sly and his ancestor. There was never any real life interaction between Sly and any of his ancestors and he was orphaned while only a little child.

In this upcoming game Sly travels through time to meet his ancestors and learn first hand from each the art of thieving like a Cooper. You can now see the ancestors in the typical cartoony graphics that made the previous games so appealing to us. Talk to them in the well known humorous dialogue that always managed to get us to chuckle at the gang's antics, jokes and puns. Play as each ancestor to witness just how much better they are at executing each thieving technique they invented. For example, by focusing his power while standing on a spire, Rioichi can perform the Leaping Dragon Technique to jump great distances between spires.
