Dead Island: Definitive Edition Listed by Retailer

A remastered version Dead Island may be coming to current-generation consoles, if a listing on a retailer website is to be believed.

South African site Loot.co.za has displayed a product page for the game, which has been given the title Dead Island Definitive Edition. This screenshot also suggests the reboot will ship on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

Koch Media, parent company of publisher Deep Silver, declined to comment when approached by Gamespot.

If the listing is accurate, it remains unclear what upgrades have been made since Dead Island's original 2011 release, and what exactly the new version of the game will include.

Originally scheduled for release at the end of 2015, Dead Island 2 has since been pushed back to 2016. In July, Koch Media dropped the game's developer, Yager, after "careful consideration."

Dead Island 2 will be the first in the series not to be developed by Techland, which has since gone on to make rival zombie slasher Dying Light.

The Castle Game Coming to PS4 on August 4th

Hello fellow PlayStation fans. I’ve been playing tower defense games for a long time, starting from the early days when they were popular as Warcraft and Starcraft mods, then as Flash games, and lately on mobile devices. What I love about them is that they are easy to pick up and play but can be pretty deep.

About two years ago, I decided to create one that is inspired by some of my old-time favorites, but with unique features to make it distinct. This wasn’t easy to do, especially on a console, but I believe we’ve made something truly enjoyable. And now, we’re super excited to announce the launch of The Castle Game for your PS4 on August 4th.

What are the unique features? Well, ever played escort missions in a tower defense setting? Imagine using the defenses and walls to keep the enemies out, but also having safe and open paths for your allies to run through. Or how about having all the structures be destroyable? Now, some enemies are pretty dumb and will follow the path you cleverly designed, but the smarter ones will take out any structure that can pose a threat to them. So now you have defenses that can be damaged. To balance things out, you are given a giant hammer that can quickly repair structures. Engineers are also available to auto-repair any damaged structures nearby.

Repairing is just one of the few “battle actions” in The Castle Game. Other actions include a highly addictive lightning spell, focus fire which makes nearby defenders focus on a single enemy, the ability to call in reinforcements, a pretty cool Phoenix spell that is kind of like an air-strike, and a super-powerful Chaos spell that you’ll end up just itching to use as soon as it’s ready.

Did I mention that all the defenses and spells can be upgraded through the Armory? These baddies just don’t stand a chance when you have a fully upgraded Catapult with the Chaos spell activated. Just don’t let a Corruptor sneak in and mind control that Catapult.

With three different game modes, a huge arsenal of defenses including ranged and melee defenders, traps, and spells, and a wide variety of enemies that can bomb, freeze, and take control of your defenses, we think you’ll have a blast building and defending your own castle on August 4th.

Assassin's Creed Creator Reveals New Game

Assassin's Creed creator, Patrice Desilets, has revealed his upcoming title, Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey. It will be much different than what he has worked on before.

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey will be a a third-person adventure survival title, released episodically and set in an open-world.

The game will jump throughout history to some key moments in our civilization where crucial decisions are made. Examples given by Patrice include the domestication of animals, the invention of tools, discovering penicillin and putting a man on the moon. The running theme here is non-violent. There has been bloodshed throughout history, but Desilets wants to go beyond that. He explains this in-depth by looking at a potential section where you'll play as a caveman.

Quote Originally Posted by Patrice Desilets
"Our ancestors back then weren't that violent," he says. "They weren't fighting each other. Cooperation and compassion are really part of the reason why we survived...There's no evidence of war before the invention of agriculture on this planet. That doesn't mean they didn't exist, but we've never found any evidence of it. There's not a lot of human beings on the planet, and once you first come across one, your first thought is not of killing them. It's like, 'Holy s*** there's somebody else! Let's try to help each other to survive because there's not a lot of food and there's a lot of beasts out there.'"
Patrice wants to enable interaction with the environment that feels deep and satisfying, in order to mitigate the removal of bloodshed. As episodic games have a lack of replay value, he suggests to get around this, you'll be given free rein after you complete the narrative portion of the episode. If your task as a caveman is to gain the power of fire, once you have that you'll then have an open-world to play around with it in.

"You'll have the sequence of the amazing, huge bush fire that you have to flee with your family, and the only way to survive eventually is to turn around and use this fire," he explains. "You go back to your tribe and build a fire, and then it's systemic. After this it's your adventure until I come back and say, 'There's a new adventure for you.' You could call it a mission or a level – we still haven't decided what to call it – but each time we introduce a new feature that is laid with the story of humankind...We're putting a lot of Hollywood stuff in, and then we leave you with a systemic, persistent open world where it becomes Day Z or Minecraft. But instead of blocky, it's triple-A quality environments in this bubble."

Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey is currently planned for a PC release and will likely come to consoles later down the line.

Mortal Kombat X May Get More Character DLC Packs

During a stream yesterday, developer NetherRealm Studios showed off the final fighter set to join the roster as part of the first Kombat Pack - Tremor. At the end of the livestream, however, was a reference to this being the end of "Kombat Pack #1".

This may be an indication that Warner Bros. & NetherRealm is not done reaching in your wallet just yet.

Remember, a modder unlocked Baraka, Sindel & Rain back in April. Characters that were shown in the story mode but you could not use them.
